What is the difference in an Iphone 3g and an Iphone 3gs?

B!

-Does the 3g have MMS like the 3gs?
-Does Jailbreaking the 3g give it all the features of the 3gs?

Answer
1.They are more or less identical when it comes to aesthetics
2.The 3Gs has a much faster processor than the 3G
3.The 3Gs can achieve 7.2mbps on HSDPA while the 3G can only achieve 3.6mbps
4.The 2.0 megapixel camera of the 3G has been replaced with a 3.0 megapixel camera that supports video recording in the 3Gs
5.The 3Gs can now support OpenGl ES 2.0 while the 3G can only support 1.1
6.The 3Gs has voice control and a magnetic compass which are not available in the 3G

as for your questions: yes the 3g also has mms, and no, jailbreaking will not give it all the features of the 3gs.

What is the point of having digital cameras with so many megapixels but all the photos are compressed?

Dan.K

My camera is an 8 megapixel camera and even at it's highest setting, it compresses at 4:1. There is no option to shoot in RAW either. What good is 8 megapixels if the files are just going to be compressed anyway?

Answer
It is actually best to use a 3 MP setting, but read more on this at the links below. Digital really means software programs do the work and record innformation with bytes and bits like a computer. All cameras shoot in RAW and then convert that to the pictures you see. Some cameras let you see the RAW and use that to make your picture manually.

Check the Memory Card Storage Table at this link:
http://www.digitalphotographywebsite.com/memorycardstoragechart.html ...

The number of pictures that memory will hold depends on the mega pixel setting on your camera. My camera will hold about 900 pictures with a 1 GB memory card and a setting of 3 mega pixels. It will take 84 minutes of video at 30 fps. Could use a 5.2 mega pixel setting, but there would be no improvement in picture quality.

Most companies are touting high mega pixel to sell cameras, but high mega pixel settings take longer to process and may not be needed unless required for very large pictures or enlarging small parts of pictures. Maximum print size for a 3 mega pixel setting is 8 x 10 inches. Click the following links to see the this in detail.
http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-path=398&pq-locale=en_US&_requestid=2039 ...
http://www.danscamera.com/Learning/going_digital/#resolution ...

If there are no memory card slots on your computer, purchase a Targus card reader at Walmart for $8.88 or another brand for less at Ritz/Wolf/Kit camera. Also, they do 3½ x 5" digital prints for 6¢ each on Tuesday and Wednesday.

CAUTION To prevent memory card corruption, keep batteries charged and don't delete. Wait for lights to stop flashing then turn camera off before removing memory. For card readers, double click Safely Remove Hardware. Select then click Stop and OK.

...shea...

I just bought a Pentax k10d and I really have no idea how to create the optimum picture. I know it takes time to learn but can you give me some sample "starting settings" for the ISO, aperture, and shutter speed? For things like : Daylight landscape, Sunset landscape, indoor portrait, outdoor portrait, Night scenes, etc? Thanks!

Answer
That's really not a good camera for a beginner. The Olympus E520 and most other similarly priced models have scene modes to cover all of the situations you described. However, you can get a good deal of help here:

Also, go to flickr.com and look for the 10d group. You will get lots of advice there. Good luck!

Answer
Nikon D3000 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera
http://astore.amazon.com/webfront-20/detail/B002JCSV5I

Product Description: Breathtaking digital SLR image quality and easy operation highlight the 10.2-megapixel D3000-Nikon's friendliest D-SLR ever. Compact and capable, the D3000 is compatible with a broad range of world-famous NIKKOR lenses and includes the versatile 3x, 18-55mm Zoom-NIKKOR with Silent-Wave Motor autofocusing and Nikon VR image stabilization to combat picture blur caused by camera shake for sharper handheld pictures. Special moments are captured faithfully at up to 3 frames-per-second and displayed on a bright, 3-inch LCD monitor. The D3000's split-second shutter response eliminates the annoyance of shutter lag. To further simplify picture-taking in special situations such as portraits, sports, landscapes, and more, the D3000 features icon-identified Scene Modes that deliver beautiful results automatically in otherwise complex situations. Additional Nikon technologies elevate picture quality and guard against picture-taking mistakes. Fast, accurate 11-point autofocus delivers razor sharpness. 3D Color Matrix Metering II and Nikon EXPEED image processing work with an exclusive Scene Recognition System for precise automatic exposures and rich, vivid color. Making the D3000 an even smarter choice are its exclusive Retouch functions for creative fun and the onboard Guide Mode that's ready to lend a reassuring hand to take the pictures you've always wanted.

Review: Looking over several cameras and choosing one for someone who has outgrown point and shoots, I came back to the Nikon D3000. By no means will this model blow away the seasoned photographer, however it does cover the basics and more. We picked it up and tried it out over the weekend.

First time DSLR users will enjoy the Guide Mode. It literally walked us through different shoot scenarios via the fixed 3" LCD screen. An excellent tool, its step by step instructions allowed my niece to move from the operating booklet in no time. After a few more runs, I am sure that she will feel quite comfortable shooting in the manual mode. The quick shutter release was a nice surprise.

Upon completing two days of shooting with the Nikon D3000, I walked away impressed. In manual mode, indoor shots were a balanced and perfect mix of shadow and color. As usual with shooting in low light, noise will make an appearance. However this system can be tweaked to deliver some outstanding indoor photographs. The bottom line is proper settings.

A basic fix is the VR (Vibration Reduction) feature located on the lens. This should be activated, especially indoors. A tripod will certainly help. In auto mode, just set the camera to night portrait and sit back and enjoy the rest of your flight.

Outdoor shots were vibrant, sharp and rich in color without editing. The onboard flash system was more than capable in meeting fill flash requirements. Without a doubt the overall performance of the camera, features and image quality is excellent.

With 10.2 megapixels to work with, I easily blew up a personal favorite my niece had taken to 16" x 20". Even though I don't see myself trading in my Nikon D300 for this model anytime soon, this camera is by far an upgrade over any of the souped up point and shoots out there.

I also want to take high quality photographs, they can be one camera or two separate ones (one for filming the other for taking pictures). I just really need tips on what to get. I want to make short movies in very high definition on YouTube for a project I'm doing. Thank you!
My budget would probably be around $300 or less. I really want to make urban style type of videos.

What I need more right now is a video camera.

Answer
Hi Janet:

Cameras & camcorders range from under-$50 USD to many-thousands, and Y!A users range from 13-year old teens to well-seasoned retirees, so you need to give us a bit more information about how much you have to spend.

And your subject matter & visual approach for your YouTube project can influence the equipment selection greatly.

So rather than a bunch of "blue sky" model recommendations, I'll stick with the general "tips" you are asking for.

1) Set a budget of what you can afford to spend. Photography has traditionally been an expensive hobby (especially in the "film only" days). Video is cheaper than the old "home movies", but you still "get what you pay for" as far as quality.

2) You seem to be interested in both "filming" and "taking pictures", so don't get wrapped-up in the "Megapixels" hype, which is fairly meaningless for video once you get above 2.07MP (multiply 1080 by 1920 pixels, for HD, and you'll see what I mean). Higher megapixels only affects photo blowups, and still won't do you any good if your lens is cheaply made.

3) Don't get a camcorder or DSLR that shoots video your computer can't edit! HD video takes a lot of computing power, tons of RAM, large & fast hard drive storage, and high-end video cards. Match the edit software to the "codec" the video is made with.

4) Buy the best video tripod you can afford. Tripods don't get obsolete, and a jerky low-end pan head will frustrate you more than any other piece of gear. Still-cameras can pretty much sit still on top of any cheap mount, but a moving camera shot takes smooth, precision-tooled mounting & control.

5) Sound & microphones are more important than you may realize. People will watch a grainy YouTube video with good sound, but too-soft, echo-ey or distorted sound on the best-looking video will drive viewers away. Make sure you have an external mike input on at least one (if not all) of your camera heads. This is also vital for music videos.

6) Learn about "3 point lighting", and if you plan to make still-photo portraits, then study portraiture techniques. Good video (and photos) require good lighting, and more is better to prevent grainy poorly-detailed video footage.

7) As far as lensing, if you are on a low-end budget, look for Optical Zoom (not Digital Zoom, which is worthless). Some cheap cameras, like the Flip, and some not-so-cheap cameras like the GoPro Hero series have a fixed lens with no optical zoom. Digital zoom is added to many of these (which is just pixel-cropping) to make them seem "better".

8) Another lens-related feature is O.I.S. (for Optical Image Stabilization), which helps prevent shaky video & stills when your lens is zoomed-in or hand-held. Some cameras handle this better than others (and some call this feature by different names).

9) My final recommendation, as far as YouTube projects, is to not let a lack of budget or equipment stop your creative efforts. Two of the most-watched (and now, well-paid) YouTube stars are Jenna Mourey ("JennaMarbles") and Hanna Hart ("My Drunk Kitchen"), both of whom shot & edited almost all their famous videos with the iSight webcam on their MacBook laptops.

Feel free to post an "Additional Details" update to your Question to give us a price range, and we can recommend specific models or feature lists you can afford.

hope this helps,
--Dennis C.

How much would you sell this camera for on eBay?

Q. I have a Nikon N6006 and I am looking to upgrade. I looked on eBay & I see no one sells it for more than 100 - 200 dollars. I was wondering how much you would sell it for.
They will be getting the camera, a Sigma Auto Focus Lens, a carrying case, the manual, & cleaning wipes. And all this for only 100 dollars? That doesn't seem right.

Answer
Start the auction at $0.01. It will sell for what its worth. A 35mm film camera is not worth much. I got a new EOS K2 with a 28-90mm zoom lens for $44 on clearance at Best Buy a year ago.

Frankly, the lens is probably worth more than the camera and you can use it on Nikon DLSR's to boot. The carrying case can also be used for your DSLR. I would keep everything but the body and get what you can for it. Otherwise wrap it up and put it in your attic. It's probably worth more there than what you can get for it.

Whats the Difference between a regular Digital camera and a Dslr camera?

I'm considering on buying one.
I just want to know if it has more features than a regular digital camera / if its Better or not. because i have a Good digital camera that's about 10.2 mega pixels but i want Professional looking pictures and i think the different Lenses dslr cameras Have are amazing.
Any help would be nice! :) i don't know much..so! lol yes.

Answer
Well the major difference between a digital cams and DSL Rs is in the way of viewing the picture or the scene. Digital cams use LCD or an Electronic Viewfinder while the DSLR or the so called Digital Single Lens Reflex have the optical viewfinders, this means it consist of a return mirror and a pen ta prism.

Another difference between the two includes the chip size, Most DSL Rss use an imaging.
There are DSL Rs with 6 Mega pixel chips, and the digital cams with 8 Mega pixel, as far as I Know Mega pixels are only part of the image quality, and frequently not important. The Size and weight between the two are also different.

DSLR are excellent in image quality at low ISO level, lower noise at a high ISO level, have a wide range of exchangeable lenses, the availability of Image lenses, much brighter and clearer viewfinder compared to the digital cams. DSLR have a high frames rates even if you are in a RAW mode settings and allowing rapid shooting without freezing

Digital Cameras are smaller and lighter weight. The zoom lens is included depending on the price. No shutter and mirror noise. Macro shooting accessibility without other lenses depending on the model; Tilting and revolving the Lcds are allow for framing purposes at short angles. Depth of field at any given image exaggeration and the switching between LCD and E VF is slow.

DSLR don't have real-time histogram, the sensor dust is always a problem, shutter and mirror noise depends on the situation. Large size, particularly with long lenses while digi cams have more issues on viewfinder, slower focus, poor and noisy image quality when the ISO is greater than 100, limited multi frame shooting. Digi cams are slow in focus and can't shoot quickly. Digital Camera freezes for about 6-15 seconds after each RAW shot

what is the difference between dslr cameras with a screen on top?

anne

what is the difference between dslr cameras with a screen on top, like the 5D Mark II has a screen on top and the 500D/T1i has no screen on top and it's much smaller? So pls. tell me the difference.

Answer
The top-LCD screen is just one little item in a long list of things that make the more expensive models more user friendly. The top LCD screen shows important settings like the shutter speed, file size, metering mode, and ISO. The same stuff that you can see on the back screen of the 500D with just one button click. Except with a top-LCD, those settings remain visible all the time.

Other little perks include dedicated buttons to change a lot of those settings, vs. diving into the menu with the 500D.

And you get a better viewfinder. And a more durable shutter mechanism. Sometimes weather sealing and a metal body vs. plastic, a more advanced auto-focus system, and so forth.

Lots of little stuff that doesn't have any effect whatsoever on the final image quality. It usually doesn't even show up in the specs when you compare two cameras, but all of those extras do add up to make more expensive cameras better suited for advanced amateurs and professional photographers.
---
added:

BriaR, I considered that but it's probably a wash - the top-LCD uses less power than the larger color screen but it's always on. On my Nikon D200 it continues to display how many shots I can still take on the memory card, even when the camera is turned off.

Much bigger battery drains are
* chimping (reviewing every shot)
* using the pop-up flash
* IS / VR lenses

Thanks for the answers! :)

Answer
Sony HDR-CX190 High Definition Handycam 5.3 MP Camcorder with 25x Optical Zoom (2012 Model) has been a great HD camcorder so far. It is very small and lightweight, to say the least. I think the 70 series battery I bought for this unit weighs almost as much as the camera. The controls are good with the little screen joystick and menus. The color is very good on the screen, and the video is sharp. I like the 30x for videoing my stepsons' wrestling matches.

Nikon D5100 or Pentax K-r?

AP

I've been reading reviews and comparing specs for months.

The Pentax has a larger ISO range (100-12800, expandable to 25600) and faster fps (6). It also has VR built into the body, thus never needing VR-specific glass.

The Nikon offers 1080p video, a flip-out LCD, and higher mp (16.2).

There are many more differences between the two...

I'm curious if anyone owns either of these cameras and what their thoughts are. This would be my first DSLR and I plan on using it at my daughter's cheer competitions and soccer games and for capturing quality photos of my 3 and 4-year-old boys who are constantly on the move.

Is the higher fps worth the lesser mp?
PS - I'm not sure what specs are important or which ones make or break a specific camera. I've only ever used my Casio point-and-shoot and Droid X for taking photos and desperately need to upgrade. Thanks for your help!

Answer
I am a sports photographer and never use the burst mode on my camera. I have much more control the shutter.

As far as pixels?

http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/mpmyth.htm

You will never see the difference between 16 mp and 14 mp

As far as image stabilization is concerned? In lens schemes are much more effieient because they can be designed for a specific focal length and lens design. In-camera schemes are compromises and attempt to stabilize images on lenses that frankly do not need stabilization.

Here is how the sensors of those two cameras compare. As you see, the Nikon performs better at high ISO's, so in many cases, you will be able to shoot at shutter speeds fast enough that you will NOT need image stabilization

http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/Cameras/Compare-Camera-Sensors/Compare-sensors/(appareil1)/672%7C0/(appareil2)/698%7C0/(onglet)/0/(brand)/Pentax/(brand2)/Nikon

As a sports shooter, I really never use VR either. VR cannot stop the movement of the subject, if your shutter speed is too slow, the VR may reduce any blur caused by the camera moving during exposure, but the moving subject will blur due to its movement during the time it takes to make the exposure

JUST in: Why in-lens VR is superior to in-camera

⢠Corrected finder image makes photo composition easy.
⢠Each lens is optimally tuned to achieve reliable correction.
⢠Image information captured by the AF and metering sensors is corrected with in-lens VR.
⢠Patterns of image blur are not the same with all lenses.

Using the number of megapixels a camera has, how can i approx. workly out the resolution of the image. I want to work out 16.7 Megapixal - how large would the images be?

Nappymonster

Answer
You've overlooked the elephant in the room: the dpi of the image. Without that figure, the question means nothing.

Say you're doing a billboard at 10 dpi. This means you need 100 pixels/sq inch. 16.7 MP would give you 1160 square feet.

Say you're doing a high-res print at 300 dpi. This means you need 90,000 pixels/sq inch. 16.7 MP would give you 186 square inches.

Do you see the difference?

My rule of thumb that I teach people is this:

1. magazine grade printing requires 300 dpi.

2. 300 dpi means 90K (300 squared) pixels per square inch; in other words, you get 11 square inches of print per meg of pixels.

3. Thus, an 8X10, for example, is 80 square inches and requires 80 X 90K = 7.2 MP.

Screen shots require only 72 dpi, so 80 sq inches of screen real estate takes only 72 X 72 X 80 = 415K. (it doesn't hurt to go up to 100 dpi for screen shots)

It all depends on what you're doing. Large prints and calenders can be done at 150-200 dpi and look OK on the wall, but high-quality publishing always demands 300 dpi.

If a camera has the same amount of megapixels will its pictures look just the same?

Camera phones acually.
I'm getting the LG Neon which has 2.0 megapixels,
and i've seen sample photos from the iphone, which also has 2.0 megapixels.

So I wanna know, will a picture taken by the lg neon look the same as a picture taken by the iphone?

thanks!

Answer
No, It simply means that the resolution of your picture would be same but the image quality will depend of the sensor.

For example Canons CMOS sensor is far superior to is Nikon's sensor and thus Canon's photos are better quality than it rival Nikon.

Is the Nikon D3100 a good choice for me?

dslr camera discount

...

I have been looking for a quality dslr camera (either canon or Nikon) that is not too expensive, around 500 dollars or less. I found the Nikon d3100, which fits my price requirement, but I'm not sure about the quality. I am a ametuer photographer who wants to upgrade from a point and shoot camera to a dslr. The d3100 is 14 megapixels, is that reasonable for a dslr? Thank you!

Answer
Forget megapixel count. Anything over 12MP is enough and any DSLR on the market will give you a very nice 20"x16" enlargement. You really don't need more megapixels. It is the image size and quality and lens quality which matters. All DSLRs in your price range will have similar sized sensors. Canon and Nikon both make great optics. 14 megapixels is more than enough.

The D3100 is a great camera. It is quite a bit better than the similarly priced Canon 1100D and they are the cheapest DSLR cameras on the market right now.
http://snapsort.com/compare/Canon-1100D-vs-Nikon_D3100

Take a look at D5100 prices as well. They have dropped a lot recently because Nikon has introduced the D5200, so old stocks are being sold cheap. (Same with the D3100 being discounted because of the D3200).

If you can afford the extra, go for the Nikon D5100. The image quality is better in low light - it performs much better at high ISO. It also has a much higher resolution screen, which makes it far easier to work with when you are reviewing your images. It has quite a few more advanced features which you will only really appreciate when you learn more about using the camera.

If you can't afford the extra for the D5100 then do go with the D3100. It will give you great image quality and help you to advance your photography.

DSLR prices are pretty static. Instead of actually discounting the camera, retailers will probably bundle up a camera, lens, memory card, bag, and cleaning supplies, and mark the total down by $100 or so.

There is an effect called the Lomo effect, you can buy this as an action in Photoshop for a few dollars.

What's the best camera for shooting very high megapixel shots in moving objects but still affordable?

Peter

I would like a camera dSLR or hybrid that can do very high megapixel still images (preferably 35MP+) on moving objects and people. I also like to don't want to spend a year's salary on a Hasselblad. What kind of cost effective options are available?

Answer
I think the only dSLR that goes that high is the Nikon D800.

It's 36.3 MP and $3,000.

im looking for a great camera that takes great pictures and can record hd video for a good price any help would be appreciated!

Answer
The best brand for video is Panasonic, JVC, Sony and Canon for under $5,000

After that you are looking at 4K cameras, like the Red One and ARRI ALEXA.

What you may be looking for is a dSLR that also happens to have a video feature.

Look at the Canon 60D and Nikon D7000, both cost less than $1,500 but you will have to add some rather expensive accessories to make them work as an actual video camera.

In the P&S arena, cameras made by almost all camera makers have both HD and Full HD video available depending upon your budget.

NONE will auto focus however

Do you think DSLRs are good for filming?

Fedora

I just want to see what people's opinions are about using DSLRs to shoot films/tv shows. I know House MD did it. And a lot of youtubers/film festival entrants are switching to filming using these: do you think they hold the same quality when compared to camcorders of the same brand?

Answer
Not if you are serious.

NOTE: You cannot shoot film with a digital camera, only video.

There is a temptation to compromise and buy an all in one camera for shooting both video and still shots.

Here is the problem.

http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/camcorders/cam-cam.shtml

When you add the cost of making a dSLR into a viable video camera, you could have purchased a real one, one with gen-lock and time coding among other things.

Yes, some video production companies use Canon and Nikon dSLR's capable of shooting video ("House" shot one episode using a Canon 5D, Mark II and Dexter is shot using a Nikon D series camera). The thing that makes a dSLR a great second video camera is its size. You can get it into tight spots a full video camera cannot. They also can provide the director selective depth of field usually only found on 35 mm motion picture cameras and the new 4K video cameras.

But again, what will it cost you to turn a Canon 5D, Mark III or Nikon D800 into a usable video camera?

The most popular video cameras used by production companies are the Panasonic, JVC, Sony and Red One brands.

When I am asked to shoot video, I rent a proper video camera.

If I am just goofing around, I use my tiny Nikon V1 to shoot Full HD video. It is just fine for a hobbyist or student learning how to shoot from scripts, but have no plans to distribute the resulting video.

If you are shooting serious videos, then you need to look at a 3-CCD video camera or even a 4K video camera

How do you make a high quality video on youtube?

Harry

How does one make a video on youtube thats not fuzzy or the voice is scratchy and it is high quality or is it just the camera that you own?

Answer
Hello!

â Method #1
If you did a video using a camera and going to direct upload with editing your camera should have high mega-pixel lens. As an example Sony Ericsson phones do have 12 (high) mega-pixel cameras.

â More megapixel = High quality
â Low megapixel = Less quality

â Method #2
If you did a video using a camera and going to edit and upload it then your camera should have a high megapixel lense and you should save it in High quality, 720p or 1080p (Save it as a .mpeg never save it as FLV. It just make the quality low) when you asked to select one. Some video editors does not ask so you have to sniff through the options before saving.

â High quality = More size = Slow while uploading to Youtube
â Medium quality* = Medium size = Normal uploading speed
â Low quality = Less size = Fast while uploading to Youtube

*Recommended.

â Method #3
If you making a video on your computer do the same as I said in Method #2.

Hope this helped :-)
Have a jolly-good day.

How many megapixles is in a good camera?

highest mp camera ever

highest mp camera ever image

Emmy Sanch

I'm 13 and just want a good camera for taking pictures with friends. i have $150.00 and need to know a good camera i can get. How many megapixles is good?

Answer
It depends what you want it for. If you'll only ever print the photos in A4 size, no more than 6MP is needed. You could happily live with 6 for what you want it for. The main thing that makes a "good" camera is a good lens. Find a camera with a Leica lens in, you'll be able to take fantastic photos. All camera companies keep smashing out these cameras with 14MP and higher. You don't need it. It's just a money making scam because for some reason people judge a camera by how many MP it shoots in. Do your research, try some out. Digital cameras depreciate so much it's stupid. If I were you, I'd get one second hand. You'll be able to get one for half the price for the same type of camera.

Has anybody ever bought a digital camera from the Dollar General Store or Big Lots?

Q. What kind of cameras do they have and how much are they? Are they good? Their websites dont have anything listed.

Answer
I have never bought a cemera from either, I got mine at Wal Mart. I would steer clear of stuff like that from the DGS. I have heard of alot of there product not being what they say they are. Just check the Mega Pixles, I know you want at least 3.0 and higher and also at least a 2 inch LCD preview screen. If you can find that at those stores for $99 or less then it's seems like a good deal. I paid $129 plus tax at walmart, 3.2 MP. Also you will have to buy a memory card too.

Can I sell my Verizon Wireless phone on eBay?

Jeremy E

I am a Verizon Wireless customer, and I recently bought a new phone. My old phone, the Samsung A990, seems to fetch a pretty good price on eBay and I'm wondering if I can sell it. I talked to Verizon and they said that I could, but that I'd have to sell it to another Verizon customer, as the phone can't be used on another network. Does this seem in line with what you know? Thanks!

Answer
just make sure ur phone is deactivated and also make sure the phone isnt under ur account and thats it. the other people are wrong because u cant unlock a cdma phone (sprint and verizon phones), you only can flash them and use the same network. They dont use sim cards. while gsm phones (t-mobile and cingular) use sim cards and u can unlock those, but to anwser ur question u are able to sell it to anyone on Ebay. Its really up to them on when and what they want to use it for. The guy above has no clue on what he was talking about. You dont have to sell it to a Verizon customer. Any ESN (Electronic Serial Number) is able to be activated on Pre-Paid. i.e. Page Plus. So put it on Ebay and get as much as you can. Your 990 has a 3.2 Megapixel camera. Its the best around besides the unlocked Nokia's. You can sell it for an easy 200 if its in good condition.

What is a good beginner camera for photojournalism?

Lickles

I'm a graduating print journalist and want to begin taking photos, both for my work and for pleasure. I know next to nothing about cameras and would like to keep the price at around $500 or less.I'm not worried about figuring out the camera or the proper photography techniques as I'm pretty intelligent and can figure out almost anything rather quickly.

Are there some cameras that you might recommend for a beginner? What about something like a Sony RX100?

Thanks.
I see. Any recommendations?

Answer
Usually by the time you have the skills necessary to be a photojournalist, you will have already have a good camera system built. I would have thought you would have learned that in school

If you look at any photojournalists, you will see that they use fully adjustable cameras like Nikon and Canon dSLR cameras, have more than one and at least six to ten lenses.

The Sony RX100 is far to limiting to be of use as a news and sports photo gathering tool (NO interchangable lenses, poor quality images at high ISO's, etc

Looking to buy a fancy Canon camera and I need your help?

I'm looking to purchase a Canon Camera at the end of the year but don't know which one to choose. What is the difference between all the different Canon cameras... Canon Rebel, Canon Ti, Canon Ti4, etc.? I have always loved taking pictures. I'm getting tired of my digital camera. I want to expand my photography and start taking really wonderful quality photos. What Canon camera do you suggest I get?

Answer
Fancy huh?

There is nothing fancy about a fully adjustable camera. The simply use a light meter to determine the proper exposure (balancing ISO, shutter speed and lens aperture). That is as simple as it gets.

Add to that, you have a choice of many different focal lengths which makes them more versatile than the really "fancy" P&S cameras the detect smiles, faces and friends faces.

If you think that a T1i and T4i are NOT digital cameras then you need to do more research.

Spend some time on these websites and see if any of the listed cameras fit your needs.

http://www.nikonusa.com/en/Nikon-Products/Digital-SLR-Cameras/index.page

http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/slr_cameras

http://www.getolympus.com/us/en/digitalcameras.html?cat=11

After you have visited these sites and have taken notes listing the features of each camera you are interested in buying, visit this site to see how the sensors all perform.

http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/Cameras/Camera-Sensor-Ratings

And finally with your notes in hand, visit a proper camera shop and hold your top choices in your hands. You will get plenty of opinions here, but you really need to do the research yourself to know which camera system is best for you.

Now maybe the bad news.

Taking "really wonderful quality photos" has all to do with your skills, NOT the camera you buy.

You can produce the same boring snapshots on your "tired" digital camera as you can on a $43,000 Hasselblad digital camera unless you have the skills and understanding of the fundamentals of photography. That will take some formal training and time
