Im planning to buy one of them and get it unlocked in India. Which is the better choice and can i get them unlocked succesfully?

Answer
I would suggest HTC EVO 4G Android Phone
Gorgeous, gigantic, super bright, crystal clear screen. Best. Screen. Ever.
Truly fast at everything - apps launch instantly, everything is just "zippy",
Powerful enough to run a bunch of stuff simultaneously without slowing down at all
Very modern and "hip" interface.
Fantastic integration with all things Google (Maps, Gmail, Google Voice, etc.), Social Networks (Friend Stream is amazing), and GPS
Call quality is excellent
WiFi works very well
Touch screen is VERY sensitive and fast. Could be Pro or a Con.
Videos are unbelievably large and crisp on this thing - no other phone comes close yet
Has lots of options and customization features
8 Megapixel camera AND HD video camcorder (!) surprisingly good quality for a phone
Does eBooks very well (need free eBook reader)
Android app market is huge and growing fast. Downloads and installs are super simple and fast.

Fuji digital cameras entered the market in the late 90's. Started in Japan in 1934, Fuji has always tried to stay ahead of the pack. The history of this company is rather interesting so let us take a look at it.
Started in a small Japanese in the foothills of Mt. Fuji, the Fuji Film Co. Ltd was founded in the year 1934. At that time, no one could imagine that such a small camera making company would become a million dollar global name known all across the globe within a span of 50 years. Today, Fuji is known for its great digital cameras and innovative technology.
It took Fuji 35 years to come to the USA. In the US, Fuji again started small with the establishment of a six person office in the Empire State Building in New York City. Within a span of four years, in 1969, the company had expanded itself so fast that the
Morgan Guaranty Trust Company issued American Depository Receipts (ADRs) on Fuji Photo Film stock.

http://www.cameradollars.com/
http://www.easyphotobiz.com

In 1976, Fuji Film launched the world's first ISO 400 color print film. This was the fastest color still photo film present in the world during that time. Then, in 1980, Fuji launched the fastest color motion picture film - the A-250. After this, Fuji became the official sponsor of the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984.
One of the biggest launches in camera history made by Fuji was the QuickSnap in the year 1986. The QuickSnap was a one-time-use camera and it became an instant hit in the market. Due to its usefulness, easy-to-use convenience and price, the QuickSnap became the market leader during its time. Improvising on the QuickSnap, Fuji introduced the world's first one-time use 35mm camera with a flash in the year 1988.
Fuji was not a company which could be left behind as far as digital technology and digital cameras was concerned. Even though Sony overtook Fuji in the race of introducing the first digital camera, Fuji gave the world the first digital camera with removable media in the year 1988.
Today, Fuji has firmly established itself in the digital revolution. It has continuously innovated itself and made several product launches such as the MX-700 in the year 1998, which was the world's smallest and lightest mega pixel digital camera at that time. Fuji has also made forays into digital printing technology.
Not only this, but Fuji is a conscientious of the environment as well. In the year 2000, Fuji made a $7.8 million contribution in the construction of the Fuji Film Giant Panda Conservation Habitat in Washington DC in order to bring two giant pandas from China to the USA.
From the NANO CUBIC Technology which allows digital videotapes to increase their recording capacity to 1000 two-hour movies in 2001 to the xD-Picture Card, which was the smallest storage media in the market in 2002; Fuji continues to introduce newer and newer digital technologies today. Some of the newest digital cameras introduced today are:
A-Series : Automatic point-and-shoot cameras for basic users.

E-Series : Full featured, compact cameras with manual control as well.

F-Series : Ultra compact cameras in different styles with full features.

S-Series : Advanced cameras with optic controls for advanced users.

S-Pro Series : Extremely advanced cameras for professionals.

I'm starting college for photography and they do not supply you with a camera just the equipment like flash drives, messenger bag, blower brush and things like that. I wanted to know what camera would be the best to get please help!

Answer
It would be best to talk to your college tutor. Some require bridge cameras, some require DSLR's and if you are doing film photography, you may need a 35mm film SLR.

I need a messenger bag with a side pocket that can hold a DSLR?

BAD PEGASU

I need something with a padded interior for an iPad and textbooks and a (preferably padded) side pocket that is large enough to hold a DSLR camera. I'm thinking a tissue box-sized pocket. Anyone know or own any bags that fit that criteria? Links would be much appreciated!

I'm looking for a high-quality, digital camera that doesn't require taking out a loan. On the other hand, I'm not looking for a point and shoot. This isn't for family vacations and scrapbooking. I'm looking to do serious work and possibly open my own studio if things go in the right direction.

Answer
If you want something serious, stay with a digital SLR. I've shot with Sony, Pentax, Nikon, Canon, Minolta, and Olympus. Out of those, I prefer Canon or Nikon. I personally own a Canon 20D.

I'm not sure what taking out a loan means to you; you're probably not going to get anything that I would consider high-quality for under $500. The Rebel series are pretty respectable; and you could get a pretty decent kit for under $1000 with a couple different lens, battery; memory card, bag, etc.

A couple of things to know about Digital SLR's before you buy one.

Depending on how large you're going to be printing... don't get swept away with high mega-pixels. Just about anything you'll find new on the market is going to be enough to print 8x10. I constantly print 11x19 shots with my 8 mega pixels and they always come out great. The image quality has nothing to do with megapixels. Image quality comes from image sensor and lense. Which brings me to my next point.

Lens: Always, always, always buy the same brand lens as your camera. If you by a Nikon body, buy a nikon lens. If it's Canon, buy a canon lens... etc. You can save money with Tokina or Tokar, or whatever they are called, but they won't compare to a name brand lense.

Memory card: You'll really hate yourself if you get anything less than 1 gig. It's typically enough, but I've gone on vacation a couple of times without the ability to dump pictures to a hardrive, and found myself deleting pictures from my 4 gig card to make room for more.

If it were me, I'd buy a Canon 20D or 30D and start off with somewhat wide lens... maybe a 25-100 mm or so. If you can find a 20D it will be cheaper, and there are too many enhancements that you absolutely need from the 30D. You could probably find a package deal on Ebay complete with a lens, bag, battery, memory card etc... everything you need for around $1000.

If that's too much $$... You can get a package deal of a Rebel XTi for around $800; It will be pretty much the same camera as the 20D but it won't have the durable light weight Magnesium alloy body, It won't be as fast, but it will give you a picture just as good.

Still to much Money? Get a Nikon D50. Won't have the megapixel power, but like I said earlier, 6 megapixels will give you a high quality print as large as the average person would print. 8x10 no problem... 11x19 probably wouldn't look too terrible. I don't think it has the magnesium alloy body either, but that's just a durablity issue... framerate isn't as fast... but all these things aside, you'll get a great picture. And a package deal will run you from $200 -$300 or so.

Good luck.

What good cameras are there for photography?

Kat

Hello there!
I am interested in buying a higher quality camera for photography, my price range if from, well £0-750
please help! :-)

Answer
"Which one is a good camera to buy?" gets asked many times every single day here on YA.
A quick search would have given you thousands of instant replies (without having to wait for answers), but once again here is my 10 cents on the subject:

I don't really like to give recommendations for particular cameras because there are too many choices and too many variables in what people are looking for. I find it much more useful to help you think this over, then make up your own mind.

Point & Shoot cameras are wonderfully handy because of their small size.
When light conditions are ideal, they even take really nice photos - all of them do.

However, they all DO have limitations - they don't do very well in low light situations (i.e. noisy photos, hard to avoid blur, etc). The little onboard flash is very harsh at close range, and doesn't reach very far.
Many of them have no manual functions, so you are limited to only very basic photos, you can't compensate for unusual situations, or do many fun "tricks" and special effects.
P&S's also suffer from frustrating shutterlag and many of them chew through batteries rather quickly.

If you're ok with all those limitations, then go ahead and pick one, most of them (the same type and same price range) are rather similar. Personally I would pick either a Canon or a Nikon, and would certainly stay away from Kodak and Vivitar.

A higher end P&S will give you more manual options and better quality. Many of those even give you the option of adding a proper flash (which makes a big difference to your flash photos).

Don't worry too much about megapixels - all modern cameras have plenty enough, plus there is a limit to how many pixels you can squash into a tiny P&S sensor before you actually LOSE quality rather than gain it. 6 megapixels is about the upper limit for those little sensors.
Don't worry about digital zoom, in fact, don't EVER use it. It simply crops away pixels, i.e. destroys information. The only real zoom is optical.

Some people ask for a camera that "doesn't take blurry photos". Blur is the photographer's problem, NOT the camera's. Even the most expensive camera will take blurry photos if the person behind it doesn't know what they're doing.

Some words about special effect features such as color accent, or even just b/w or sepia:
About applying any sort of effect in camera: DON'T DO IT !
Imagine if you just happen to take the best photo you ever took - surely you would want to have it in all its glory, right?
Always set your camera to biggest size, best quality (and to color).
That way, you start with the best possible photo as your original.
Then you make a copy and edit it to your heart's content.
You have much better control over any editing on your computer, even something as simple as b&w will look MUCH better when it was processed properly instead of in camera.
You can do all sorts of things to it PLUS you get to keep your original.

Decide which features are important to you, and look for cameras that have that feature.
Then go compare a few models on www.dpreview.com .

The very best thing you can do for your success is to borrow some books and learn about photography. A bit of knowledge will make a much bigger difference to your photos than your choice of P&S camera can.

For what it's worth - if I was in the market for a P&S camera right now, my choice would be a Canon Powershot SX50 HS http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/digital_cameras/powershot_sx50_hs

If tiny size is attractive and important

Q. Your smartphone support high megapixel photographing and high quality video recording
1) since you already have a smart phone, you won't buy another digital camera and digital camcorder
2) even though you have a smart phone, you still want a digital camera for better picture quality, but not digital camcorder(since digital camera can do video recording too)
3) you want all of them, each for different usage, smartphone, digital camera, digital camcorder

Answer
In the first place phone cameras (if you can call them that) are well known world wide as junk.

Many dslr cameras today, I'm thinking of the Canon Rebel line, do a very nice job with video recording.
I use my Canon to do video all the time.

I say that about phone cameras because they have a sensor that's smaller, much smaller, than a woman's pinky nail - lack of size means lack of quality.

dslr cameras have a sensor many, many times larger - bigger means better technical quality.

What smartphone from At and T has the highest megapixels?

Q. If I had a choice between iphone 4 and galaxy s3 which one has the highest megapixels?

Answer
The Galaxy S III has a higher MP count for its camera. Doesn't mean it is the better camera though, just means it takes bigger pictures.

Answer
Nikon D3000 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera
http://astore.amazon.com/webfront-20/detail/B002JCSV5I

Product Description: Breathtaking digital SLR image quality and easy operation highlight the 10.2-megapixel D3000-Nikon's friendliest D-SLR ever. Compact and capable, the D3000 is compatible with a broad range of world-famous NIKKOR lenses and includes the versatile 3x, 18-55mm Zoom-NIKKOR with Silent-Wave Motor autofocusing and Nikon VR image stabilization to combat picture blur caused by camera shake for sharper handheld pictures. Special moments are captured faithfully at up to 3 frames-per-second and displayed on a bright, 3-inch LCD monitor. The D3000's split-second shutter response eliminates the annoyance of shutter lag. To further simplify picture-taking in special situations such as portraits, sports, landscapes, and more, the D3000 features icon-identified Scene Modes that deliver beautiful results automatically in otherwise complex situations. Additional Nikon technologies elevate picture quality and guard against picture-taking mistakes. Fast, accurate 11-point autofocus delivers razor sharpness. 3D Color Matrix Metering II and Nikon EXPEED image processing work with an exclusive Scene Recognition System for precise automatic exposures and rich, vivid color. Making the D3000 an even smarter choice are its exclusive Retouch functions for creative fun and the onboard Guide Mode that's ready to lend a reassuring hand to take the pictures you've always wanted.

Review: Looking over several cameras and choosing one for someone who has outgrown point and shoots, I came back to the Nikon D3000. By no means will this model blow away the seasoned photographer, however it does cover the basics and more. We picked it up and tried it out over the weekend.

First time DSLR users will enjoy the Guide Mode. It literally walked us through different shoot scenarios via the fixed 3" LCD screen. An excellent tool, its step by step instructions allowed my niece to move from the operating booklet in no time. After a few more runs, I am sure that she will feel quite comfortable shooting in the manual mode. The quick shutter release was a nice surprise.

Upon completing two days of shooting with the Nikon D3000, I walked away impressed. In manual mode, indoor shots were a balanced and perfect mix of shadow and color. As usual with shooting in low light, noise will make an appearance. However this system can be tweaked to deliver some outstanding indoor photographs. The bottom line is proper settings.

A basic fix is the VR (Vibration Reduction) feature located on the lens. This should be activated, especially indoors. A tripod will certainly help. In auto mode, just set the camera to night portrait and sit back and enjoy the rest of your flight.

Outdoor shots were vibrant, sharp and rich in color without editing. The onboard flash system was more than capable in meeting fill flash requirements. Without a doubt the overall performance of the camera, features and image quality is excellent.

With 10.2 megapixels to work with, I easily blew up a personal favorite my niece had taken to 16" x 20". Even though I don't see myself trading in my Nikon D300 for this model anytime soon, this camera is by far an upgrade over any of the souped up point and shoots out there.

What are the best settings for the Canon Rebel XS & Outdoor Portraits?

nicolaamor

I own a canon rebel and am pretty use to handling an slr camera. I've been getting more serious with photography and would like to know, if I am taking pictures outdoors of a person (or even a few more) What would be the best settings/mode for my camera? Also, in other places such as indoors and where can I find a guide/tutorial that'll show me how to control my settings according the the setting I'm in?

p.s Another quick question I have, what would be a great portrait lens between $50-200 for the canon rebel?

thanks !
* I have read books and have done classes in photography involving ISO, Aperture, Shutter Speed and Lighting. I know how to work with a camera indoors. All I am asking is if someone had a GOOD tutorial that goes over the recommended settings for my specific camera type, and what would be the best RECOMMENDED lens. Nothing ele.

Answer
Have you tried the library or bookshops.
They tend to stock books on basic photography which will go some way to teaching you how to actually use your camera in different circumstances.

There are NO "best" settings. It is all dependent on the conditions at the time you take the image and that is constantly changing.

If you are "getting more serious" then do yourself a big favour and actually learn properly about exposure and your specific camera.

Learning does not mean coming on here asking basic questions, it means sitting down with a book or a tutor and actually reading and digesting the information and then going out and practising.

I want to get a new camera for photography, and this one sounded pretty good. Is it a good choice for taking pictures of people. I want the details to really stand out and for it to capture well.

Answer
Any of the entry level DSLRs would keep you happy for a few years. I'd pick either Canon or Nikon. I have a LOT of contact with other photographers and time and time again it seems that either one of those are most likely to make their owners happy. However, if you're determined to get a Sony, it will probably be fine, too.

The most important part is to buy only the best lenses - camera bodies get upgraded, lenses stay with us.
You WILL regret buying cheap lenses.
Don't rush into buying lenses. Start with a kit lens, get to know your camera, that lens, and all photographic principles.
Through time and through use, you will eventually KNOW what other lenses you'll need/want.
The more time you'll take, the less likely you are to regret your choices.

If you know anyone close to you with a camera, consider borrowing lenses and "picking their brain" about their camera and whatever else they know.

Go to a store and hold a few cameras, see how they feel to YOU.

Keep in mind that buying a DSLR isn't cheap, even if you find a good deal for body and kit lens.

You'll also want and/or need a few other things such as tripod, filters, a bag, sensor cleaning gear, a second battery, memory cards, perhaps a remote shutter release etc.

That's just the small stuff - I can guarantee you that you'll also want more and more lenses.
You'll also want a decent flash some day.

See how that list just goes on and on?
Owning a DSLR isn't cheap - at least not until you have built up a nice stash of gear.

Just some food for thought........

Do lots of research before you buy, and start learning about photography, too.
The very best thing you can do for your photography, is to attend a class and read a few books and tutorials. Having some knowledge will make a huge difference to your images.
I hope I have expressed this idea clearly enough: YOU need to learn about photography because even the world's best camera will take lousy shots in the hands of someone who has no clue how to use it.

It is completely up to YOUR skill for " the details to really stand out and for it to capture well"

is a Sony a200 DSLR still a decent camera? can this camera still take decent photos?

BL

I was wondering if a sony 10.2 a200 DSLR camera is decent in today's age? I can't really afford a top of the line camera.

Answer
Compared to a compact small image sensor camera, yes it's still a decent camera, in fact it's very good. But as I'm sure you know, image sensors have come a long way in just 4 or 5 years. The A200 looks like it's using the same image sensor as the A100, Sony's very first dSLR and it's CCD, every dSLR maker has moved on to CMOS sensors for speed and image noise issues.

You'll just need to get to know this camera to really get the most out of it. You'll need to do three things when you shoot in low light. Use a prime lens and take control of the camera to keep that aperture fully open, or nearly so to keep that ISO (noise) down in low light.

Shoot RAW

Remove noise yourself, keep NR off, and use something like Lightroom 4 to perform noise reduction.

The Alpha cameras still have the advantage with prime lenses that Canon and Nikon don't have, never will have. You can use fast prime lenses that are stable. I shot a lighted Christmas parade the other day with my Sony Alpha. I used a Sigma 50mm f/1.4 almost every shot was taken at f/1.7 and f2. I was able to get some shots at between 1/5 and 1/10th of a second hand held, keeping my ISO down to 800 and 1000.

You can't do that with a Canon or Nikon, they have no fast primes that are anti shake. So you have that going for you in low light. In good light at base ISO, honestly, it's hard even for a pro to tell the difference between an old entry level dSLR and a 5,000 US dollar one. At high ISO in low light, you can spot them a mile apart. If the deal is good, it's fine. For the A200 with just the basics that came with it, like a kit lens, strap, battery, charger, I would pay between 175 and 275 US dollars depending on condition and any extras.

What is the difference between a digital camera and a dslr?

dslr camera 16 megapixel
on ... Used Nikon D5100 16 2 MP Digital SLR Camera 2 Lenses More | eBay
dslr camera 16 megapixel image

Jessie

I'm not so smart when it comes to cameras so if this is a really stupid question please dont judge me. I see a digital camera for about up to 300 dollars and it has 14-16 megapixels but then theres dslr's that cost much much more and they are the same megapixels. I don't quite understand? Can you take just as well pictures as a dslr?

Answer
Nah, not a dumb question. The big difference is a regular old digital camera can be used for anything, while a DSLR is typically only used for really high end photography or professional photography work. Here's why.

An SLR camera is typically a 35mm film camera where SLR stands for Single Lens Reflex, which means that the camera use a mirror and a prism system to reflect the light in a way that the photographer can look directly through the lens to see exactly what is being captured in frame. It's when you look through the little viewfinder on the back of the camera as opposed to most digital cameras which have LCD screens on the back showing what the camera is taking a picture of.

So, a DSLR is a digital version of an SLR camera, but the differences don't really stop with just the direct lens view through viewfinder vs. LCD screen. SLRs and DSLRs are camera systems, really, as opposed to a one piece compact digital or even 35mm film camera. Typically DSLRs and SLRs are sold as just the bodies, and you buy the lenses separately as there is a vast array of options for lens types and mm sizes, telephoto with massive zooms, pretty standard 35-70mm normal use lenses, macro lenses for really close up shots, etc. SLR camera bodies have all sorts of adjustments and features not present on normal cheaper cameras, where you have to adjust the film speed, the shutter speed, f-stop with the aperture, choose your field of view in mm, manual focus, you can add a flash to the top of the camera, SLRs typically always have light meters built in to the viewfinders so you know if the exposure is correct, you can attach remote triggers for very slow shutter speeds when the camera is mounted on a tripod so you could take a photo say, of the night sky over 8 hours as the stars circle around the sky above the camera.

So a DSLR is a digital version of an SLR camera, and as such, they are very expensive. Some photographers like real film for certain qualities you can't get with a digital, and others like the immediate availability of viewing and using your shots with a digital. If you're planning on really getting into photography, you'd have to decide if you wanted a traditional SLR body or a Digital SLR body, as the prices are quite different (the digital being much more expensive). Unless you're going to become an avid amateur photographer, a nice digital with a high MP rating would be fine for you, a DSLR is too fancy for what you're going to do.

Personally, I've been an amateur wildlife and outdoor still life and scenery photographer for about 12 years, and I have a really great 35mm SLR body with a multitude of lenses to suit my needs, and I love it, but then I also have a nice little compact digital 12 megapixel camera for just taking photos of friends and family and at gatherings and stuff. Just for the every day normal stuff, and it's just great for that, instead of having to lug out the big camera and make all the adjustments and shoot a whole roll and then develop it.

DSLRs give you much, MUCH more control over image manipulation while taking the shot, but regular digitals are offering more and more features like different settings for macro, normal, and infinite focuses, red eye reduction, auto, on, or off flash settings, and stuff like that, so you can still have some control over the photo you're shooting, but just not nearly as much as with an SLR. But like I said, for the average photo taker, you don't need all the fancy stuff that comes with the SLRs. It's a costly investment, and you have to teach yourself how to take advantage and how to use all the features and settings of the SLRs in order to use them, and justify the investment.

Just for reference, a DSLR looks pretty much the same as a film based SLR. They are the cameras you see professional photographers using that have a rectangular body with the lens mounted in the middle of the front, protruding out a few inches or more depending on the zoom level. Regular digital cameras are usually just a square or rectangular shape with a small lens that pops out the front when you turn the camera on. You probably have seen the difference if you've been looking online or in a store at cameras though.

I don't think you need the advantages of a DSLR based on your knowledge and experience with photography, unless you want to turn it into a new hobby. Otherwise, a nice digital camera with a nice high megapixel rating will be just great for you and your photos! Hope I helped!

What relationship does megapixel rating have with image quality?

Jared

Hi,
I am about to purchase my first DSLR, and I am noticing that nikon has a 24 megapixel (D3200) for 550 dollars at my best buy. Their better and more expensive model, however, only has a 16 megapixel rating (D5100.) Cannon also has options... with a slightly higher megapixel rating and a slightly better camera as you go down the line. How worried should I be about megapixel rating? I won't really ever be printing over 11x14's.
With a higher Megapixel rating, Will that provide the ability to print a larger image without seeing the fuzzy dots that make up the digital image? Does image quality in a more expensive camera sometimes trump a large megapixel number in a cheaper camera?
Thanks a heap.

Answer
megapixels are not a measure of image quality.

the marketing teams of camera companies push the numbers higher and higher only to sell cameras.

Don't fall for the large print myth. People here give advice as if everyone were going to print up big billboard photos.

12-16MP is enough for anybody not making money selling large gallery prints.

When you add pixels, you must pay a price, there is no free lunch. The 3200, 5200 and 7100 take a hit in low light at high ISO vs a lower pixel count sensor. So you have to weigh the feature set of each camera, along with the image sensor.

Lastly, don't fall for anyone posting links to DxOmark.com. Those up front numbers don't tell the truth, you have to dig into the data to get the real performance of the image sensor. The D3200 sensor, when you see the real numbers, is no better than the old D3000.

The real champs when it comes to APS-C image sensors, when you see the real data are the Fuji X100 and the Pentax K5 II.

Shoot in RAW format, keep your ISO low, and with 16 MP, you can go really big if you need to.

I have a question about my Canon t4i and our photos looking a bit granny?

My husband and I just bought the new Canon t4i 18 megapixels and we love the camera. We enjoy taking pictures with it. I'm noticing that some of our photos come out a little bit on the granny side instead of being super sharp. We have a standard lens on the camera for right now... 18-55. Were going to purchase a few other lens to go with the camera when we get the money. We also are using a Zeikos UV 58mm Japan Optics lens on the camera too.

When we take pictures we try not to ever use the flash. For some reason, a lot of our outdoor photos and indoor photos are turning out granny. We use AV and TV setting a lot when we take our photos. We also set the ISO to different setting depending on what kind of lighting were using. Sometimes we will manual focus our photos and other times we just use auto focus. What is our problem? How can we fix the issue with our photos?

Answer
The answer is ISO. Too high and you'll see noise (red, green, blue specks that aren't supposed to be there). To get past that you either need to add:
More light (flash, turn on lights, etc...)
Better lens with wider aperture,
Slower shutter speed,
or a combination of those.

A 430EX flash is a great flash. Aim the head straight at the ceiling and you suddenly have natural looking light. In fact your camera can control a 430EX off camera from the popup flash.

LoveLife

I am thinking of buying this camera which is a 10 megapixel camera, and I have a 1GB memory card that I have never used. But,I am worried it won't hold and take as many pictures on my camera.

Answer
1GB isn't really a very large capacity these days, especially with newer cameras having more MP (which means larger file sizes) and also video recording (which are VERY large file sizes).

How many images you can shoot with a 10MP camera, really depends on which particular make and model you have, because not all 10MP cameras are the same.

For instance a 10MP Canon compact camera will allow approx. 220 high quality images per 1GB.
And a 10MP compact Kodak camera will allow approx. 350 high quality images per 1GB.
Other camera brands would probably fall into this range.
So, you can see that it all depends on the which brand of camera you have.

The 1GB card will be fine for now, but you may also want to consider buying another one if you find it's not adequate for your needs. Cards are dirt cheap, anyway, so you could easily buy another one if you had to. 2GB would be a good minimum.

p.s. don't forget to Format your brand new memory card in the camera MENU before you use it...and everytime you need to delete ALL the files from it in one go. Check your camera's manual on how to do this.

How many pictures will a 1 gig memory card hold for a 7.1 pixel camera?

I recently bought a 7.1 megapixel camera and it came with a 32 mb memory card...holds about...25 pictures i think. How many pictures would a 1 or even 2 gig card hold?

2 gig = about 1500 pictures..however, if you are also going to take videos, then they will take up more than one pic. spot..but i mean 1500 pics wont go too quickly...

How much video can a 8GB SD card hold if I use a DSLR?

Princesa

My DSLR camera is a Canon EOS X3 (Kiss Rebel).
Can you please also specify what settings will allow me to record longer videos? How much will it affect the quality of the video?

Thanks in advance!!!

Answer
???

That depends on the size [sd, 720p or 1080p] Interlaced or Progressive, the used video codec and the settings of said codec. I don't think anybody can really tell you precise definitely if you factor in that if it uses Variable Bitrate Encoding, like AVC/MP4 well then it even depends on the scenes because it is variable.

8GB is allot and if it uses a decent codec I feel that should at least give you 30 minutes. Actually you probably earlier have to deal with the limited time the camera allows you to film. See DSLR sensors heat up during use. To stop getting to hot there might be software limitations. Not to mention battery life yeah another issue. How long can the battery handle it.

It isn't odd that many videos are shot in multiple parts. And on your laptop/computer to it together. You edit it.

How many megapixel camera should I get for a Digital Media Course?

Natalia

I'm starting a course in three weeks time that is basically all digital stuff: including photography. I would like to take the photography path as we were told to choose between game development (not very good with writing programs) and photography.
So should I get a 14 megapixel, 16 megapixel or 20 megapixel camera (I had a look an I'm quite keen on the Samsung Smart Camera 16 megapixel camera but I first wanted to ask how many megapixel camera I should get.)

Thanks in advance!

Answer
Zero mega pixels is just about right. YES, I am kidding, but I am just trying to drive home the point that mega pixels do not matter any more! All cameras produced for the last several years have enough mega pixels to produce great quality prints. BUT you must always set you camera for MAXIMUM RESOLUTION. How do you do this? With most cameras you enter the "menu" function and scroll through until you come to the "pixel" setting. ALWAYS set you camera for greatest number of pixels and leave it there! But you want small files for email etc. You should get your yourself a small program for your computer, where you can save your picture for email (using a slightly different name of course).

More important is the length of the zoom lens. You want at a minimum a camera with 5x optical zoom lens. A camera with a 3x zoom lens is useless, and you will wish you had at least a 5x with in a couple of months. You didn't mention a budget for this purchase so it is hard to make a recommendation. Samsung are ok cameras. But Canon, Fuji, Nikon, Pentax are really the names to strive for!

P.S. You said nothing about a DSLR, Digital SIngle Lens Reflex camera like someone else recommended. That is like buying a ladder with 5 of the 6 rungs remove! Too much camera for your level at this point.

I recently lost my camera, it was a simple canon. I am looking to upgrade and start using DSLR's because of the photo quality and the added challenge. What do you recommend for a new DSLR that is within $1000? I am a very quick learner so I do not believe I will need the basic beginner's DSLR to begin with.
I understand what you're saying, what do you suggest for the beginner version then?

Answer
The Canon Rebel T2i/550D looks like the thing for you. It's running right around $900 or so with the body and lens. That's pretty much the top of the consumer line. The lens is okay. You'll want to upgrade when your skills improve.

If you want something a little more advanced, the 50D (body only) is in the middle line-up and runs about $1,000. But then a good lens for that camera will run between $600 and $1,000. I wouldn't buy a more advanced body such as the 50D or 7D if you're not going to buy good glass. So, getting a $1,000 body means signing up for a total bill of at least $1.600.

My recommendation is that you go with the T2i. If you're really interested in a more advanced set-up, go with the body only and get a nice lens like the EF-S 17-55, the EF 24-105, etc.

what is the best dslr camera for a beginner photographer to buy?

Kirsty Str

i have a simple point and shoot camera just now and want to buy a dslr. i want to know what the best dslr for beginners is and it has to be under £300 as this is my budget. thanks :)

Answer
Any dSLR is good for a beginner, whether it is an old used Nikon D100 (2002 -- under £180 on UK eBay) or a top of the line Hasselblad H4D40 (£15,900).

You see, ALL fully adjustable cameras work the same, so it really does NOT matter how much you pay for them. It is up to you to learn how to use three controls to produce the best exposure; shutter speed, lens aperture and ISO setting. ANY fully adjustable camera has those settings.

Finding a dSLR anywhere new for under £300 may be problematic.

Look at the Nikon D3100 or Canon 500D and then once you decide which you want (by visiting a camera shop and testing both of them in your hands), start saving your pennies

I, at the moment own a digital camera, 2.0 megapixel. However, I would like take up photography as a hobby. What SLR camera would best suit a beginner who is wanting to learn the basics of depth and light in a film camera? I travel several times a year and love to hike, so I'd love to take a lot of nature shots. And should I, as a beginner, worry about multiple lenses? Also, I know absolutly nothing about film: is there a certain film I should consider? I'm hoping not to spend more than $300 to $350.

Answer
Honestly, unless you have a specific reason for shooting film you should really think about a digital SLR. Especially as an amateur, the money you save buying a film SLR will be quickly eaten up and surpassed by your film and processing budget. A digital will allow you to make mistakes and learn without spending a penny.

That being said, you wont be able to get a new digital SLR for the money your looking to spend. I bought an Olympus E300, a great beginners digital SLR. On sale I got it for around $450, Amazon has it listed at $529 (see below for review also). As a beginner I would also not recommend multiple lens', unless it comes with your package. Learn to shoot first then as you get into the hobby pick up extra ones if you want to experiment more, keep in mind that lenses can get pricey also. Good luck.

How can I take professional looking photos on a regular digital camera/ nice film camera?

a

So I have 2 cameras. a Fuji, 12 megapixel, digital camera, nothing special really. My dad has a Mamiya 35 mm single lens reflex that still works great, minus the flash, that he lets me use. I have taken picture before (of course) but I want to get better. It would mostly be for outdoor portraits. Any tip/ techniques? I'm pretty sure we have the telephoto lens for the Mamiya.

Answer
Learn about your camera !!!!

Read your manual !!!! Read it several times, and practice in between. If you don't have a book, download a new one from the manufacturer's website.

Attend a class, read some books, read/watch online tutorials.

The major camera manufacturers (like Canon, Nikon, Olympus etc) all have very useful sections on their website for learning about photography.

http://www.nikonusa.com/Learn-And-Explore/Nikon-School/index.page

http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/oima_learn_center.asp

Understanding at least the basic principles of photography (as well as being familiar with your camera) will enable you to make the most of your gear, and will make a HUGE difference to your images.

Q. Anyone any idea what the use would be for such a high resolution? Has it many advantages? I am about to buy a new camera and I want to know it it's worthwhile investing in a digital photo camera of 10 or 12 Megapixel.

Answer
For an average user, 10 or 12 MP doesn't make any difference. If you are printing 4x6 or 5x7, you will not see any difference between 4 MP and 40 MP! Mega pixels do not impact colors, contrast and etc. Mega Pixels come to play only when you want to print larger photos. More mega pixels is also good for cropping in photoshop. You you will get better pictures after cropping. For instance, you can select part of a picture, like a person and blow it out and romve everything else from the picture and get a 4x6 or 5x7 print of that person. If you have more mega pixels, you can even blow out the subject more and get a 8x10 or even larger print without loosing any quality!

(Cropping refers to the removal of the outer parts of an image to improve framing, accentuate subject matter or change aspect ratio)

is 2 megapixels good?

Answer
For a camera phone, 2 megapixels is on the high end.

But the problem is that there's a lot more than megapixels that go into making a quality image.

Camera phones are not good picture makers. They're okay for a quick snapshot of something, but you'd never want to make a print or frame and display a photo from a camera phone. The problem is many-fold: poor lens quality, poor light sensitivity, non-existent picture modes.

My biased recommendation: Buy a phone to make phone calls, and a camera to take photos.

can you make images look like they were taken with a 12 megapixel camera?

Off course you can't. just as you can't make a piece of jewellery from cheapcrap inc. look like something from Tiffany.
