iPhone front-facing camera megapixel?

sickness02

So all of the advertisements based on the iPhone 4 informs that the REAR camera has 5 mega-pixels. However, I couldn't find the information on the front-facing camera. (Only except that it's capable of taking photos, videos, and using video-chat; obviously.)

My question is: Whats the amount of mega-pixels for the front facing iPhone 4 camera?

Answer
Not megapixel - VGA
640x480 - 300kp - 1/3 of a megapixel.

How do I fix my moms camera?

i

Hi my mom got a Slick DC222 12.0 megapixel camera for Christmas and she is just now opening it. She didn't have a SD card so I gave her mine. I've only used the SD card on my camera, my DSi and my little brothers DSi. Every time I turn my moms camera on, it goes to the screen where I can take a picture then it says MSDC and then it shuts off. How do I fix it? Is it supposed to do this? Is something wrong with my card? Thanks everyone(: xx

Answer
1) Go out and buy her a SDHC memory card (up to 8Gb,,no bigger)
2) Insert new card into her camera
3) Read the manual on how to format the memory card with the camera
4) Format the memory card
5) Take photos.

Stylish camera case??? Looking for a good quality, low priced case. Help please?

neenie

Well, the fifteenth birthday is coming up and I was looking at some camera cases for my Canon Rebel Xsi and one or two of its lenses and possibly a flash. As I do tend to take my camera to lots of places; i.e. photo club, parks, zoos, school events, a lightweight shoulder bag would seem ideal.I am really not looking to spend more that a hundred dollars, and would like it to be at least somewhat stylish and or colorful. I don't want to seem lazy, but maybe you could say what you have or point me in the right direction, because I haven't had much luck in finding anything besides the typical lowepro or tamrac.

I was thinking about the Crumpler 5 million dollar bag or the Acme Made Bowler Bag, but any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a million!

Answer
I've been searching desperately for a camera bag that's attractive, affordable, and functional, and the Crumpler 5 Million Dollar Bag and the Acme Bowler Bag are the two that I've narrowed it down to as well. There is a huge market for better-looking camera bags that don't scream "Mug me, I have expensive equipment!" or "Look, I'm carrying an ugly bag with a camera in it!"

I've heard amazing things about the Crumpler, and borrowed a friend's for a day. It was everything I would have hoped, so I can definitely recommend that. I didn't have much gear with me though, just my D80 body and my 70-300mm lens. I could also fit my cigarettes, wallet, and iPod though, which is always useful. The bag was nice and comfortable, if a bit unattractive, but it was nice and sturdy.

The Acme Made bag is much cuter and less expensive though, and could also double as a regular purse. I haven't seen it in person, but I'm concerned that it might be a bit small. I've seen photos where it is comfortably holding a DSLR body with lens attached, and extra lens, and it looks like there is room for a flash unit or another small accessory. However, there doesn't appear to be room for much else. On the other hand, this bag seems like it's super easy to open, even easier than the Crumpler, which is a selling point for me since I've missed shots while trying to drag my camera out of its bag.

If you have any stores around that stock either bag I'd recommend going to check them out. Also, if you choose the Acme Made bag, let me know if it's too small! :p Good luck with your choice, and happy approaching fifteenth birthday.

What is the best bag to carry my camera and stuff in Italy w/o worrying about theft or damage?

britt

I have a Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ18 (DSLR size) camera. I will be going to Rome for a week and am concerned about having my camera stolen or damaged while I'm there. I want a backpack sort of way of carrying it but I would like for it to be secure so I'm not mugged and the straps can't be slashed. Any tips or ideas for a camera bag would be wonderful.
I would also like to be able to carry stuff like water bottles, snacks and extra batteries.

Answer
I would get something that doesn't look like a camera bag something that I can wear across my body - not just over 1 shoulder. I would definitely NOT recommend a bum bag - I have seen them pickpocked heaps more than anything else.
The black bag I am wearing in the last photo on this page
http://hubpages.com/_yah/hub/Managing-your-Travel-Money
will carry a SLR sized camera & probably a smallish guidebook - I would sling the spare batteries, water, banana in another bag over my shoulder as a decoy BTW the grubby and older the bag looks the better! Also don't forget not to leave your camera lying around i.e. not attached to your person in hostels and restaraunts - the worst place is probably sitting at roadside cafes or bars. Get the camera insured, download the photos every few days to a another card or a DVD or a laptop. The camera is replaceable the photos aren't

Which boost mobile android phone should I buy?

Jose

So, this Friday i'm getting paid, and i'm planning on buying my first phone. A couple people told me not to go with contracts because it's just my first job, so i'm going with boost for a while. Which phone should I buy? Talking about pros and cons and everything else... Thanks! :)

Answer
Well the thing is what do you want with your phone?

The first thing is: Do you want to be connected like using whats app, getting news and just browse through the internet or do you want some power in your mobile phone and pay a high amount of money for extras like a good camera or some other extra things...

I give you some suggestions which should help you a bit. I tell you something from my experience. Maybe some other users tell you something different but this is just the way it works in yahoo answeres.

First of all I can advice the galaxy series from samsung, If you wish an android you can find for different needs the right phone. There are more than 20 different variants of phones or tablets so maybe one phone matches with your plan to buy a new android phone.

The best of them is in my opinion the Samsung Galaxy S2.

You have everything what you need
Pro:
- Camera with flashlight
- flash player
- fast internet (also with boost)
- micro sd card slot to expand your memory to 32 GB
- dual core processor 1,2 GHz (for fast loading of apps and internet sites)
- a long duration of your batteries (up to 2-3 days with using it a bit... after long use you have just one day but you have this problem with every modern smartphone)
- big and clear display (4,5")

Con:
- high price
- big mobile phone
- most of it is plastic

I am using a Samsung Galaxy S i9000 (the generation before the S2) and I am full satisfied with it. Payed less money and can do everything what I want with a good speed.

An another good mobile phone is HTC Sensation XE

It is a good music player and has a 1,5 GHz dual core which can open fast apps and internet sites
The display has also a good size (4,3") and you have also per charge a good duration for 1-2 days.
The camera takes like the galaxy s2 nice pictures with 8 MP.

There are also some mobile phones which cost less money and are good for browsing... but have of course less quality

My girlfriend has a samsung galaxy y and is a small mobile phone which has less power but costs only a piece of the big ones.

Pro:
- Long Batterie duration after charge
- Cheap Mobile Phone
- Good browsing
- Not so much pre installed apps in it

Con:
- less power
- bad camera but in good light you can take some nice pictures (3,2 MP)
- No slot for Micro SD Card

I hope I could give you some advices for your future buy.

Maybe you watch some videos or rating sites who test the mobile phones or go try yourself an android mobile phone in an electronic store. In some stores they put out some devices for testing purpose. It depends only what you really want with your phone. A cheap one can be sometimes better than an expensive one :)

Who makes the highest megapixel camera for HQ photographs out there ?

Lena

looking for the best out there.

Answer
I am going to do my best to answer this question in terms of reality. Basically, it doesn't matter how many megapixels your camera has! Too many of us are falling for the hype put out by camera companies wanting to sell newer, "better," bigger....and stress that "bigger is better." This may be true in some areas, but not in cameras.

Let's go back a bit to film....when we all used film, we knew that the film was all the same that we put into a camera.... Kodachrome, PanX, Ectachrome, Kodacolor, Agfa, etc....all the same film, with the ability to give all the same results...BUT ability and results were two very differnet things. The best of film ...the very best available to all of us...was the equivalent of 6 Megapixels !!!!!! BUT, using the same film in different cameras gave very different results! Why? Because of the camera (actually)... the LENS and how the shutters, light sensors, etc. worked. In those days, the ideal 35mm was considered the Nikon due to superior lens crafting and mechanics. Larger format film would give better results for enlargements (2X2" film would give better large prints because the pics had to be enlarged less for the same size print. 4X5" format was considered the Portrait camera .... no matter what the enlargement, grain would not be seen IF you were looking for grain. AND the 4X5" camera was used for news services, for its negative size was easy and fast to handle for news services. BUT, no matter how you looked at it, the FILM was the SAME....
Now we have digital, with up to 20+ megapixel ability...for what? I see cheap cameras out there advertising 12 Megapixels as if that is all that counts in your selection...NOT TRUE today as it was not true in the days of film....No one expected a professional finish from a Kodak Pony camera! The lenses were cheap.
Today, you cannot judge a camera by Megapixels, period! You have to consider what the lens is, who makes the camera (reputation), and how they make the camera.
In today's market, very few are willing to pay 5,000.00 for a camera body...other than professionals, and even then, the professionals will tell you it ain't the camera that takes the picture, it is the photographer. IF the photographer has a very fine tool, then the pictures will be very fine.
As in the past, probably Nikon stands out from the pack, followed closely with Canon (Canon has improved their lenses greatly, but they still are not Nikons. Nikon, to stay in business, produces cameras (SLR for the better photographers) from abut 500.00 to 6000.00 or so. Obviously there is going to be differences, but what do those differences mean to you? Probably nothing. A professional photographer can make a Nikon D40 sing! An amateur cannot take a really fine picture with the best of cameras...so it comes down to experience, finesse, what have you. Once you pass that 6 megapixel mark, it is the lens, the machine, and the user that makes the difference.
I suggest you go into a camera shop, try out camers...you will soon find that I am correct.
I own a Nikon D90 (superb camera), a Nikon D300S (over the top with features, and ability to handle difficult lighting) and a Canon point and shoot G-10 (they don't come finer than this little camera for what it is!

I hope this helps in what you are looking for. I hope Fotoace chimes in on this one. I suspect he will agree with me. I do not list a bunch of links here, for I doubt that anyone asking is going to check things out...and even then, it is opinion. I am comparing today's cameras with the finest of film, used for almost 1/2 century in its finest form.

What is the best digital camera with the highest megapixels?

Brock

You can name expensive one. Money isn't a problem. Thanks!

Answer
Hasselblad H4D-200MS. 50 megapixels! It's on special for $31k, body only. Lenses start around $2500, and average about $5000. It's a lot of camera to lug about, weighing in at 5.4 pounds. Lenses will add a few more pounds.

If you want something more pocket sized, the Leica S2 series is $23k to $28k. 37 megapixels. Expect to pay about $5000, and up, for lenses. The S2 gets rave reviews.

Then, there's the toy cameras like the Nikon D4 which is only $6000. 16 megapixels. Lenses are anywhere from $100 to $10k.

If number of pixels are a driving factor, then Nikon D800 for $2800. 36 megapixels. The D4 will give better quality images, but the D800 sure has a lot of pixels.

what is the best DSLR camera for HD video 100-170$ ?

Silas

I am looking for A DSLR camera that shoots HD quality video for up to 180$ I see alot of lowpriced DSLR camera's at walmart, and Target, but what model is the best in that price range.

Answer
There is no "dSLR" at that price. Only "point & shoot" that looks like a dSLR. The lens is not changeable. Manual controls are more than a pocket point & shoot, less than a dSLR.

These cameras - and dSLRs and point & shoot are designed to capture still images. Video capture is a secondary "convenience feature". This does not mean they cannot capture good video - when used properly, they can - but they are not camcorders and cannot be treated like one. Prolonged video capture can cause the camera to overheat - and it takes a long time to cool down. Most record mono-audio.

Camcorders are designed for video capture - and as long as there is space on the memory card and power available, capturing video continues - and no issue with the camcorder overheating. Most also record stereo audio. Capturing still images a secondary "convenience feature". This does not mean they cannot capture good stills - when used properly, they can - but they are not dSLRs or bridge cameras or even point & shoot cameras and should not be treated like one.

When you get a tool for a specific application it is best to get it for its primary design purpose. When you get the tool for a secondary design, expect to use work-arounds or plan on having problems.

Answer
You want good Optical Zoom (Not Digital) about 3x is the going rate (Some have 5X). You need at least a 5 Megapixel. The more the better on the Megapixels. I would suggest the Olympus Stylus 1030 SW 10.1-Megapixel

It is waterproof and "Shock" (Drop) proof. It is a very tough camera, high Megapixel and sexy. Dont forget the XD Card!

Buying a semi-pro DSLR camera, any suggestions?

Q. I'm a young amateur photographer who's finally got a job and will be able to afford a camera better than my old Sony Cybershot. I'm hoping to eventually pursue a side career in event photography and photojournalism. I guess what I'm looking for a "semi-professional" or starter digital SLR camera, but I have really no experience with brands or makes and I need some advice. My price range would be preferably under $500.

Also, I would like to buy used to keep costs down but I'm a little weary because I've been told that shutters wear out [or something to that effect] and that the cameras actually have a limited number of exposures.

Anybody have advice or a suggestion?

Thanks!

Answer
A DSLR camera is an investment but it can be well worth it. DSLR cameras have the larger sensor so you get a higher quality images. You can change lenses which can be valuable, by allowing to adjust to different needs. Here is what I recommend to people getting into a DSLR for the first time.

There are a number of good brands so don't be sold on the idea one brand is better than another. I would keep your costs down. I would get a DSLR with a short zoom (like a 18-55mm) to start. No reason to spend more than $425 to $550. Either a 10MP or 12MP will do just fine.

Below, I listed some links, the first link listed below is to a web page that lists the 3 DSLR cameras I am recommending. This list will let you compare features and specs, also it has links to reviews of the cameras, the reviews include sample images from the cameras. Also I included some links to some dealers so that you can try and get the best price. Some dealers have some nice extras, free shipping is very common, and sometimes they are offering a free memory card and/or camera bag. Sometimes you have to click in the âadd to cartâ button to see the actual price.

Here are some models that I think are well worth researching:

Nikon D3000 10MP DSLR Digital Camera with 18-55mm VR Lens - $449
EOS Rebel XS (1000D) 10MP DSLR Digital Camera Kit w/18-55mm IS Lens - $499
Pentax K-x 12MP DSLR with 18-55mm Zoom (has HD Video also) - $550

Pick a price range, some features you know you want, and even consider which camera feels good in your hand as a factor. Plenty of great cameras, get one you like and start learning the principles of photography and you will be on your way to making some great images.

If you want to stay under $500 then go Nikon or Canon but, I think the Pentax could be of special interest, since it can do HD video and has excellent quality at higher ISO settings which can be useful in low light places and helping get the picture. These features, especially the HD video, on a Nikon or Canon will cost you $100 to $200 more.

If you have any questions and if you think I can be of help then please do contact me.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Camera with quality as good as DSLR/SLR Cameras?

JUKK

- Shutter speeds, At least 10 seconds, and at least 1/2000
- ISO, at least low as 100, at least high as 3200
- Good video quality w/audio (don't know where to start on this).
- Price range: No more than $350.

I'm looking for a camera where I can shoot great pictures, not trying to go all with the 'professional' look and quality, but great enough that to 'regular' people the photos seem good as if it was taken with DSLR/SLR cameras. Also I'm probably going to be playing with shutter speeds. As for video, I'm probably going to do music videos (again I don't want it to be all professional) I just want something to shoot around and do production with that will look great with quality. With the audio, I know some of you might mention blue tooth/ wireless microphone for music videos, but I'm going to edit 100% of the audio out and replacing it with the audio music anyways so I don't need a camera compatible of having that feature. But I'd still like a camera with a microphone and audio feature just so I can shoot at parties or when I'm bored doing video blogs and such.

I'm not looking to go all greatly expensive. Don't show me camera's that or more than what's my expecting price range. I pushed it from 250 - 350 already. I don't need for anyone to say " for only 100 or 150 more you can get this" Because If I'm going to spend anywhere near $500 I mine as well just get an expensive DSLR, and I'm not looking to do that, I'm not a professional photographer, but I do know some what about photography knowledge which I picked up from a class I took in high school (which wasn't that many years ago).

Thanks..

Another one I found
to "fhotoace"..now you got me interested in the D90. I'm impressed by how high quality that video sample was. I guess I'll have to do more saving. It's like 1200 bucks or so for that camera. Very worth it.

Answer
The SLR-like cameras may suit your needs.

Look here.

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_post.asp

The Panasonic you listed would be an excellent choice, especially with the fine 10x Leica lens.

Check on the audio on that camera. None of the sites I checked list audio as a feature.

On the side of saving to eventually buy a DSLR:

DSLR's have sensors that are over 15 times the size of most P&S cameras.

* Most have shutter speeds from 30 seconds to 1/4000th second
* ISO (depending upon the size and pixel count of the sensor) from 100 to 3200 are pretty much standard on any $1000 plus camera body
* NO DSLR has video but for two. The $1,000 Nikon D90 and the $2,800 Canon 5D, Mark II. Both have audio.

iPhone front-facing camera megapixel?

My question is: Whats the amount of mega-pixels for the front facing iPhone 4 camera?

Not megapixel - VGA
640x480 - 300kp - 1/3 of a megapixel.

How much difference in photo quality is there between a VGA (640x480) vs. a 1.3 megapixel camera phone?

Aurora Bel

For instance the Nokia 6103 vs. the Samsung SGH-D807

Answer
Usually different brands do give different image capturing quality even if they are the same megapixel.

I have found that samsung pictures are very good, even though im a nokia/sony man myself.

However, the 2 qualities you talk about would be almost unnoticable on the phone screen, however when it comes to printing the quality especially with increased size would be more sharp from the 1.3 MP.

www.mobile-review.com usually has photo samples of each phone, so then you can compare :-)

what is megapixel on your digital camera mean?

sam<3

i want to get the canon-powershot but i want to know what the difference is between 8.0 megapixel and 10.0 megapixel?

Answer
OK think of it this way, you could make a picture on a piece of paper simply by using colored pencils and drawing dots. The more dots you draw the more detailed your picture would be. No matter how many dots you drew, you could break the picture down into dots. All you need to know about each dot is what color it is and how hard you pressed the pencil.

Computers are as dumb as posts. They cannot draw a line or be in the least bit creative. However they are good at remembering a lot of stuff. So we teach them to remember information about each dot.

Being computer nerds we can't simply call them dots, that's not technical enough. So we call them "Picture Elements". Over time that has been abbreviated to simply "Pixel". Each pixel is one dot.

Now the more dots we have and the smaller the dots are in a given picture, the better the picture quality will appear to be. As cameras and computers got better, they remembered information about first thousands and then even millions of dots. But being nerds again we can't talk about millions, that's too simple, so we use the prefix "Mega" to mean millions. Therefore a one megapixel camera simply has an image made up of one million dots.

Entry level cameras these days tend to record 6 megapixels. Better cameras go up to 8 or even 10 megapixels. The Hasselblad H3D-39 can even record a massive 39 megapixels of data!

Now the more dots the better right? Well up to a point. After a while if we are going to print normal sized photos, we reach a point where the printer can't print that many dots and our eyes can't see that many dots, so going bigger is not necessarily better. Specifics vary but this generally happens around the 5 - 6 megapixel mark.

So why buy an 8 MP camera, it's a waste of time right? Not necessarily. For two main reasons:

1) More megapixels means bigger prints. Let's say you take that one killer photo that you love, wouldn't it be nice to blow it up to A3 or poster size?

2) Cropping. With an 8 MP camera, you can do a fairly savage crop on your image without losing too much quality.

More important that the megapixel count is sensor quality. Not all 8 MP sensors are created equal, so read as many reviews as you can preferably showing example images before making any decisions.

So I hope this clears up a little of the mystery for you! All the best with your photography!

if your camera has a high megapixel does it mean that it's the best?

Ralph R

Answer
Megapixels on small sensor cameras has become an advertising gimmick, little else. It is sort of like the old days when car manufacturers were in a "horsepower race" - those with the highest rated motors were not the the best. It was the cars with the best suspension, handling, best brakes, most useful gearbox and drive train ratios, lightest body weight, fastest acceleration etc., that took all the prizes. Would you rather own a 400HP Chev or Ford station wagon or a 350HP Ferrari?

The most important criterion with regard to megapixels is what is known as "Megapixel Density" the number of megapixels per square centimetre. The less crowded they are, the better the quality of the image - the less noise.

Well worth the $450 for Asus. Supposed to have a CAM, Altec Lansing speakers, gigabit ethernet, HDMI, and lots of features, but detailed specs of this particular model not available. I found similar at Tigerdirect Canada for $630 with 8GB Ram instead of 4.
The only brands that actually design and build are Asus and MSI. Lenovo Thinkpad has a lot of internal design. All other brands, are just brands and it is what they choose from the companies that actually design and builds (like MSI, Asus, Compal, Wistron, HonHai-Foxconn, etc) and testing and serviceability.
Here is a PC World annual survey:
http://www.pcworld.com/article/244419/laptop_reliability_and_satisfaction_macbooks_rule.html
Macs are incredibly expensive though when considering what you get for CPU+Graphics and other features for the price paid. They are usually double or more in price for the same features.
For color, you can buy a laptop skin that is vinyl and can be replaced. You can even custom design your own. For camera, though most have them, look at the megapixels for the clarity of image. HDMI for TV out is sometimes nice for either an external monitor or hooking up to a TV sometimes.
You should start with how much you want to pay. Cheaper in general gets less features and slower speeds, and of course no gaming or intense processing.
HP and Dell are rated poorly in the last few years. Acer is very variable. Lenovo is average. Those are the top 4 brands. Sometimes a Toshiba is good, and sometimes you can get a good sale price on an Asus or Samsung.
Will browse a few sources and edit this with an example or two.
$450 plus tax:

Brand good, but CPU very slow and graphics matching other cheap laptops. Otherwise very nicely featured with gigabit ethernet, HDMI, bluray player (but not DVD burner).
$430 after rebate plus tax:

Help me with a camera choice! ?

AlliGAtors

Attention Yahoo users I need some help choosing a new digital camera.

I am limited by several factors so it has come down to 2 choices.

Canon PowerShot A590IS 8MP Digital Camera

or

Kodak 5x Zoom 14.0 Mega pixel Digital Camera w/ Smart Capture

What brand do you prefer for your digital camera use? Would you recommend a Kodak or Canon? Any experience with the above cameras?

Thanks!

Answer
Just saw this Canon A590IS camera at Best Buy and Radio Shack. Think it is a great camera and a best buy. It has a viewfinder, optical image stabilizer, auto focus, and uses NiMH rechargeable batteries.
http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/A590IS/A590ISA.HTM ...
http://bountii.com/deal-1523871-canon-powershot-8-0-megapixel.html ...

For expanded wide angle or telephoto capabilities, the A590 IS is compatible with Canon's accessory lens adapters: A small button next to the lens bezel is actually a latch; press it and you can remove the bezel ring, exposing a bayonet mount for accessory lenses. Canon offers the WC-DC52 0.7x wide-angle lens, the TC-DC52A telephoto lens, the 250D 52mm closeup lens separately, along with the LA-DC52G adapter to mount them on the camera. (Note that the wide, tele, and macro lenses all need the LA-DC52G adapter to mount them to the camera. The lenses won't work by themselves.)

There is no one particular place to get great buys, but you may see something above that really helps you find the best buy. Click on the second link in the information above for an example then search for your camera of choice at the upper left. Camera prices at this link change often.

In new cameras, look for a viewfinder (LCD invisible in bright sun), optical (not CCD) image stabilizer, and check battery prices. High mega pixel settings take longer to process and may not be needed unless required for very large pictures. Maximum print size for a 3 mega pixel setting is 8 x 10 inches. Click links below for more details.
http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-path=398&pq-locale=en_US&_requestid=2039 ...
http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/mpmyth.htm ...

CAUTION Do not overcharge! Batteries can be damaged. Use an automatic two or more hour Energizer Compact smart charger with temperature monitor, trickle charge technology, and safety timer ($9.76) at Walmart. Use pre-charged 2000mAh Duracell ($12.97) or RayOVac ($5.97) batteries (hold charge one year) and a full cycle charge. To preserve battery charge, use the viewfinder.

There are so many cameras out there it is difficult to say which is best, but the second source link will be very helpful as it list most of the cameras out there with prices. The following information should help you know what to look for in a camera.

What gives a camera its picture quality?
The short answer is that it is mostly the skill of the photographer that produces high quality pictures. The lens and camera are very important, but the ability to set the scene, adjust the cameras settings, and hold the camera very still or use a tripod with auto or remote shutter actuation when required is what gets the great pictures.

Lots of great camera tips in this link.
http://www.danscamera.com/Learning/going_digital/#resolution ...

My camera has 5.2 mega pixel, but I use 3 most of the time because it gives great results, is faster, and takes less memory. Also, it only has a 3 x optical zoom and 7 x digital zoom. I never use the digital zoom because making pictures larger works better on the computer. This is an old camera, but everyone is impressed with the quality pictures it takes ... like magic.

Check with the Geeks in several stores and compare prices. Once you select a camera, read all about it in the owner's manual. You can view owners manuals at this link, but will need to Login. http://www.retrevo.com/s/digital+camera ...

Other than megapixels what should I check for when buying a digital camera?

What are the points to check when buying a digital camera? What are the usual problems one faces with such cameras?

Is going for Canon or Nikon a safe bet?

Many of the new cameras come with only an LCD screen. Would suggest that you find one that also has an optical view finder because the LCD screen is almost impossible to see in bright sun.

Higher mega pixels may not really be the best thing to look for. It is more expensive, takes longer to process, and may not be needed unless you are making a really large picture or blowing up a small part of a picture. http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-path=398&pq-locale=en_US&_requestid=2039 ...

Check this camera. FUJIFILM - FinePix 10.0-Megapixel Digital. This is more camera for the money.
Wide-angle shooting, a 12x optical zoom and picture stabilization mode combine in this camera for exceptional shooting performance, even at a distance. Plentiful scene modes, autofocus and automatic white balance controls make this camera a snap to operate. Life time Warranty (Parts & Labor). You may be able to find it on the Internet for a lower price ($144), but be careful of the vendor.

Which Nikon DSLR camera is better, the D40 or D3000?

Q. Nikon Camera

Answer
The Nikon D3000 http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fs%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ref_%3Dnb%5Fsb%5Fss%5Fc%5F1%5F11%26fsc%3D8%26ih%3D7%5F0%5F1%5F2%5F0%5F0%5F0%5F0%5F0%5F2.142%5F587%26field-keywords%3Dnikon%2520d3000%26url%3Dsearch-alias%253Delectronics%26sprefix%3DNikon%2520D3000&tag=digitsy-post-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957
has 10 megapixels compared to 6 for the Nikon D40. http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fs%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ref_%3Dnb%5Fsb%5Fss%5Fi%5F1%5F9%26fsc%3D-1%26ih%3D1%5F1%5F0%5F0%5F0%5F0%5F1%5F0%5F0%5F1.438%5F217%26field-keywords%3Dnikon%2520d40%2520camera%26url%3Dsearch-alias%253Delectronics%26sprefix%3Dnikon%2520d40&tag=digitsy-post-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957. The D3000 also has an 11 point autofocus compared to a 3 point autofocus for the D40. There are other less important advantages as well such as a larger LCD, faster continuous shooting, more white balance options and others. Get the Nikon D3000

Answer
Nikon and Sony share the same Sony sensor.
There's a slight difference in the electronics behind the sensor, but Nikon pip Sony at the post for 'perceived' image quality at higher magnifications than you're likely to use or even see. Dead heat.
Nikon does not have Vibration Reduction in the body - each lens you buy has to have VR built-in. The Sony has Anti-Shake built into the body - all lenses are automatically anti-vibration.
Nikon's implementation is slightly better than Sony's - but Sony's goes across the entire lens range at 'no extra cost'.
We could go on all night about the little things. Get a hold of one. Feel it. Try the different knobs, buttons and switches. Personally (more down to my hand size/shape/oddities) I prefer handling Sony cameras - I own both. Your hands are different to mine. You might disagree.

Sony's a330 has a tiltable Live View screen. It means you can hold the camera at ground level and still see the Live View clearly. A better implementation than the Nikon's fixed screen. You could also snap the Sony's screen off, but you'd find it hard with the Nikon....

It's all swings and roundabouts. Image-wise, they're perfectly matched. Handling-wise, the Sony might be better for your hands or vice-versa.

Whichever you choose, however, you're married to it. Buy into a system and stay with it. By the time a few lenses and a flash etc have populated your kit-bag, your camera is suddenly the cheapest part of the kit - you end up buying a camera to suit the kit you have. In this respect Nikon wins - by a hair.
Sony's sensors/electronics produce better colours, though.

Which camera should I buy?

Sapphire R

I need a camera with a macro mode and if possible panorama mode, of over 12 megapixels for under £150 - can you think of any cameras like this, I could get?
:)

Answer
Almost all P&S (compact) cameras have a macro mode. Many of the new cameras have the panorama mode. I'd suggest the IXUS 95 IS because it has an optical viewfinder, essential if you take pix outside in the daylight.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Canon-Digital-IXUS-95-Camera/dp/B001T9NH5G/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1281630375&sr=1-6

Panorama can be done with s/w on your computer. Many s/w packages allow you to stitch multiple pix together. My wife's Kodak allows you to stitch them in the camera, and I've used it once. Was curious to see how well it worked. It took a couple tries but then it worked well. Probably will never use it again. It's a Kodak EasyShare M380 which has been replaced with the M381 if you're interested.

Amazon.com product warranty DSLR camera?

XYZ

I am planning to buy a DSLR camera from amazon japan, however I am worried about the product warranty. Does all amazon product comes with the manufacturer warranty? If yes, how many years? In case I have to change or service under warranty , what procedure I have to follow. Amazon says I have to return the product to them. Cant I do it my self by visiting the company's service center under warranty. Please help.

Answer
That is one of the "dilemmas" with buying cameras at a "cheaper" price. Most of them are considered "imports/gray market", and therefore the camera must be returned to the vendor instead of the manufacturer. Depending on where the camera originated (and only the vendor would have that record), it must be returned to the appropriate service center. Sometimes when a camera is returned to the vendor under warranty, the repair is not made by the manufacturer, instead it is done by a third party.

From what I have heard, Nikon is the strictest when it comes to "imported" cameras, and they will not honor the warranty... "Gray Market=No Warranty and No Repair. If you purchase a gray market import, you won't get any Nikon warranty. The only warranty that will be honored is any that the retailer provides"

Here is a write up by Thom Hogan... http://bythom.com/warranty.htm

Senior photo camera rental...?

mingximusi

So I plan to rent a camera to take my senior photo...because my camera sucks and no photographer is willing to come to me (I want my photo to be in my surroundings). But I'm looking at the rental sites and they are very confusing to me. I was just wondering what you think I should rent for such an occasion and is there any other equipment I should rent as well? If it helps, my photo will be mainly in an outdoor woodsy setting and I want cool instagram effects (that's the best I could describe it)....is that possible? If so, how? Thanks a bunch!

Answer
You can make effects later, in the computer - much better than trying to get the camera to make effects. For best quality you should use a camera with a physically large sensor (not just lots of megapixels), thus a DSLR or a CSC. Let's hope you can figure your way around how to use it in the limited time you will have it in your hands. Quite possibly your present camera can be persuaded to give much better results than you have had so far.

If you are confused by the rental sites chances are that you will end up with a camera that won't give you what you want.

Best DSLR camera for film making and photography?

Q. I've decided to purchase my first dslr camera. I'm a amateur film maker so I need a camera that can handle that, with excellent video. But I also do a lot of photography, especially sports.
I'm not too concerned with costs. Basically, I want the best possible video and picture quality possible. With quality, I'm not really willing to sacrifice.
On a less important note, I have pretty small hands, so an especially large body might be a problem.

Answer
Film makers use 16 mm and 35 mm motion picture cameras and most of them rent them from a place like here

http://www.birnsandsawyer.com/_camera-rentals/35mm-cameras/

Some dSLR's have a video feature, but are NOT designed to be a primary video camera. For those you can rent them from Birns and Sawyer or buy something like those listed on this link

http://catalog2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ModelList?storeId=11201&catalogId=13051&catGroupId=34401&surfModel=AG-HPX370

The above cameras are designed to produce video projects and do an excellent job

ALL video, motion picture and digital still cameras have large camera bodies, but since all but a few shots needed to produce a film/video involve the camera being mounted on a tripod, this should NOT be a problem for you.

Here is a link to the type video camera used by one of my sports shooting colleagues.

http://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/cat-broadcastcameras/cat-dvcam/product-DSR400PL/

The lens he has attached to is is a Fujinon ENG Style zoom designed for 1080p

http://www.fujifilmusa.com/products/optical_devices/broadcast-hd-sd/hdtv-lenses/2-3-eng/za-select/za22x76-berd/

While simple $300 P&S cameras shoot both stills and video, neither are what you would want to use if your goal is excellent stills or excellent video.

IPhone 4s or Droid Razr?

MW3 Guy

I'm looking to buy one or the other tomorrow. Both are the same price at verizon. I have had 3 different androids and 4 different iOS devices but never an iphone and there's things I like a lot about both. Here are the thing that are important to me:

-Battery Life!!!
-Display
-Browser
-Build quality

I like the droid Razr huge display but it may make the phone too big. The iPhone has a smaller display but it has amazing clarity and pixel density.

Android give you more freedom to customize but iOS is just a beautiful system. I like them both.

What are your thoughts/experiences? And what other angles am I not looking at.

iphone 4s or Droid Razr?

Q. So my plan is up and im considering getting the droid razr. I have the droid 2 and i love the phone, which is why i want another droid. but it seems that everywhere i go, more and more people are getting iphones. I understand that it is convenient to have your phone AND ipod in one device, but i find the droid Razr more appealing, just because its different and i already have an ipod touch. From personal experience, does the Droid Razr compete with the iphone. Price is not an issue this time around. whatever i will be more satisfied with is what im getting.

Anyone know any specifics about this security camera?

Adam

I'm looking at a 700TVL Indoor/Outdoor Vandal Proof Dome Camera 130ft IR (Infrared), 2.8mm-12mm lens, Sony Effio 12V for a friend of mine. I cant seem to find out anything about he megapixels on it.

Anyone who knows what the MP on this camera, please help me out.

Answer
You did not tell us which manufacturer or the label on it.

That is because video resolution is not measure using "megapixels". That is a resolution measurement used for still images. Video resolution is measured using horizontal row count. In this case, 700 TV lines... without knowing which camera, there is no way to know whether is is capable of high definition or standard definition video - and we also need to know if the video will be transported over coax cable or using an IP network. Knowing the "megapixel count" is only on small piece of information related to resolution and potential video quality... the video compression used, cabling system and several other factors need to be known, too.

For residential installations, I use Swann or Lorex cameras. If the camera is less than about $150, expect it to fail in about 6 months. I've burned through the cheap stuff on eBay and the low-end at cameras from several places in a couple of months. The slightly more expensive Lorex and Swann cams just keep working...

I am looking for this kind of camera?!...please help...?

(This thing is very important for me right now so please read all i wrote and a serious answer please!)
When i go to the places that sells cameras the sellers says this crap camera called Sony's these kinds of cameras are the best..i have 13.6 mega pixels of this one and the problem is these kinds of cameras makes me and other people look even worse than how they looks in real life...in fact the other cameras makes people look just fantastic:the crap kind of camera: http://digitalcameras.techfresh.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/sony-dsc-w220-02.jpg
the lights and stuffs are on and it makes our skin look very oily and shiny and stuff and our skin just god damn horrible...when i turns the light off it looks like 1.2 megapixel camera
THE IMPORTANT THING!!!::: i am looking for these normal kinds of cameras that makes the picture look like this:http://www.hi5.com/friend/photos/displayPhotoUser.do?photoId=4998897581&ownerId=191202575&albumId=410762026

i also know that macbook shoots very good looking photos but the iphones doesn't really do the same...i am looking for a camera that shoots pictures like macbook... :D...tell me the exact kind of camera and thank you...

Answer
Only your first link works, the other's don't. You need to check your links before you post them (and be logged out of your accounts for that to work).

Cameras make a difference, better cameras CAN take better photos.

However, by far the biggest difference is made by the person using them...... they are only a tool.

You can put a fantastic professional camera in the wrong hands, and it will take lousy photos. A good photographer can coax great photos out of even the simplest cameras.

If you borrow a few books on photography and watch a bunch of tutorials, you will learn a lot.
With some knowledge, you WILL take much better photos and you will learn to overcome (or at least realize) whatever limitations your camera has.

are there any 50 megapixel video cameras?

Mosquito

are there any 50 megapixel video cameras, if not what is the highest megapixel video camera out there.

Answer
look at http://www.red.com and stop worrying about megapixels.

Think about what you ask for a second... what is the largest number of pixels a TV can display... 1920x1080? That's 2,073,600 pixels. 2MP. What are you going to do with the other 48Mp?

Very best professional digital camera?

Gimme top of the line recommendations.
Gosh I didn't know they ran that high! I'm not a pro photog I just want a pro camera for taking pictures of houses and such... and the 8-12MP isn't cutting it for me.

They're nice cameras but $30,000 is, well a bit nuts for a camera.

Answer
Top of the line would probably be Hasselblad H4D-50:

50 megapixels, medium format sized sensor, good for any professional work, including posters that are several stories tall, etc.

You can grab one here for about $29,000: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/671884-REG/Hasselblad_70480542_H4D_50_Digital_SLR_Camera.html

Then you'd need to add a few lenses and accessories (budget another 20,000 or so), and you'll have the best, top of the line professional digital camera kit money can buy!

Good luck,
LEM.

|| Edit || Re: additional info.
======
Ah, that changes everything!

I'm afraid 8-12mp is not your problem. From what you describe - it seems like what you may need is an entry level dSLR with a nice lens. Yes, I said entry level, or maybe, just maybe a prosumer level camera, but definitely not anywhere close to top of the line. Just like you don't buy a Ferrari or Bugatti to do weekly grocery shopping - you don't need a top of the line camera for photographing buildings, unless you're a pro...

Let's first rule out megapixel hunger. If your plans don't include printing the posters that are a few stories high, as I mentioned in original answer - you don't need more than 10. Alas, 10 is too much for about 99% of all people out there. Really, anything that is 6mp or more is a plenty for at least 8x10 or even 11x14 enlargements. Here's some more detailed reading on the topic: http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/mpmyth.htm

Now that out of the way - what you need is an entry level SLR like Nikon D3000 or D5000 plus a good lens:
http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-D3000-Digital-18-55mm-3-5-5-6G/dp/B002JCSV5I
http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-D5000-18-55mm-3-5-5-6G-Vari-angle/dp/B00267S7TQ

Trust me - once you put on that good lens on an 8 or 10mp camera, you'll be miles better than anyone with a 12mp point&shoot, or even 16mp SLR with a crappy lens. Remember, a lens is what collects the light and projects it onto a sensor. If a lens quality is not good - the rest becomes irrelevant. No camera will capture an image that is better than that projected by a lens. A 14mp sensor will collect 14mp of junk, if the lens in front of it can't focus properly, creates color aberrations and distorts the lines. On the contrary a good sharp and adjusted lens will create a beautiful and stunning 6mp image on a sensor, and a decent sensor (all SLRs have excellent sensors that are at least 10-15 times bigger than closest p&s competitors) will collect and record a stunning photograph!

So if buildings is your passion - you may consider a wide angle lens such as this one: http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-14-24mm-2-8G-Nikkor-Angle/dp/B000VDCTCI

Whoa - a lens that is three times more expensive than a camera? Yes - read above. The lens is your long term investment, you'll be using it for years to come. The camera bodies are disposable. New technologies come and go, bodies improve, lenses remain. If you're really serious about quality, consider buying a kit this way: You get an amazing lens and a camera body to go with it. Not the other way around.

Now, you probably don't have to buy that $1800 lens right away. Or ever. Start with a very decent 18-55mm lens that come with either camera I suggested. These kit lenses do take care of the shooting needs of about 80% of all people entirely. When you've had it for a while, you will know if you really need a wide angle (maybe not as nice and expensive as above) or maybe instead you'd want a telephoto (there's a good and inexpensive 55-200mm lens out there) or perhaps you want an all in one package - an excellent 18-200mm lens.

That's the beauty of dSLR. You can change lenses!

Last, but not least. Once you're equipped technically, you will really need to work on your skills to take great pictures. Just like buying an aforementioned Ferrari will not make you a race driver in one day - buying a good camera won't make you a pro photographer. Camera is your tool, and your skill and knowledge is what really creates great shots. Get some books or attend a class or two, and then you'll see how that 10mp camera will give you shots you have never imagined you could take. And leave the piles of useless megapixels to those who are not in the know!

LEM.

P.S. Oh, and I'm a Nikon guy, but to be fair - there's also an excellent line of Canon Digital Rebels cameras, and similar set of lenses for them, if you want to go that route. I am just more familiar with Nikons, so I used them as examples here. Canons are just as good - your choice!

Which camera is best for a DSLR beginner? Canon 40D, T2i or T3i?

Jake

I have been shooting with a pretty solid P&S for awhile now (Sony WX-150) and it's time to upgrade. I'm buying used, both T2i and T3i with an 18-55mm kit lens or the D40 with a 50mm f/1.8. Which camera would be best to start learning on and taking great pictures?

T2i: $500 with 18-55mm (used)
T3i: $460 with 18-55mm (factory refurbished)
40D: $430 with 50mm f/1.8 (used)

I might get into video a little more but I'm not sure. I love to take landscape and portrait shots.
I know the 40D is a mid-level and has better construction, 6.5 fps and way better battery life, but I'm trying to decide if I actually NEED 6.5 fps. If I want to take an action photo, a good photographer can make it work, right?

Answer
If the three, the 40D is the most robust camera and is actually one of Canon's classics.

If you are a disciplined shooter, you will rarely need to shoot in the burst mode.

Most of my assignments are sports events and to be successful, you must know the sport and better the team you are shooting so you can anticipate the action and be ready to get the great shot of the game using the camera in the single shot mode.

Here are two examples.

http://s862.photobucket.com/user/fotomanaz/media/Answers%20album/i_AIA3008copy.jpg.html?sort=3&o=14

http://s862.photobucket.com/user/fotomanaz/media/Answers%20album/iBonnerInAirc.jpg.html?sort=3&o=13

Shooting sports and action in the single shot mode is especially important when you are on a deadline. The less images you have to choose from, the better. Finding the best four or five shots of the first half out of 120 or so images allows me to send them to the sports agency from the media room during the 15 half time break. People who machine gun their cameras not only increase their post production work load, but they put a lot of stress on their cameras shutter

If you do buy the 40D, plan on adding the 18-55 mm lens so that you have the flexibility of being able to shoot landscapes, group shots, full body shots. The head and shoulder portraits will be handled very well by the 50 mm f/1.8 Before buying ANY used camera or lens, always test it using your own memory card. This means you need to avoid buying used equipment on line unless it is from a reputable company like KEH, Adorama or B&H Photo. Craigslist is good since you can meet with the owner and get more history of the camera before you hand over your money

EDIT:

You asked for the best camera for a beginner: There is really no such thing. The best camera will depend upon your budget.

All fully adjustable cameras work the same, so whether you spend $250 on an old Nikon D100 or $43,000 on a full on medium format digital camera like the Hasselblad H4D, you will still have to learn how to balance ISO, shutter speed and lens aperture.

Would Canon 40D be the best ( Not-Very-Expensive ) DSLR camera ?

ZaYoOoD

Hi ..
So .. would it ??
I mean considering everything .. ISO .. shutter speed .. aperture .. etc. ?
and for less than 1500 $ ..

and if I'm a good photographer .. not a professional one ..
but a photographer that knows about photography .. and know how to take good shots .. and want to take good shots ..

Which DSLR camera would be good for me ??
and I mean a camera that can take good photos by all means ..
can do everything ..

and what type of lens would I need .. because I don't know much about lens ..

thanks ..

Answer
Yes, the 40D would be a great camera. However if you want really good ISO you should wait for the 50D which comes out soon. 40D has max ISO of 3200 I think and the 50D will go to 20000+. Even if you don't buy the 50D you should wait until it comes out because 40D prices will drop.

What are some HD camcorders with the quality of a DSLR camera?

Calea

I make YouTube videos and since I have started I've been using my dadâs Nikon d3100 and it is amazing just the best quality I have come across but I am looking for something with the same exact quality that has a longer recording time, pull out view finder, and auto focus. I can't seem to fine that I recently bought the Cannon VIXIA HF R400 and its okay but definitely not the d3100 the quality of the video just isnât there but it has everything else I want. So I could really use someoneâs help and input on what is the best camera/camcorder for me based on what I desire

Answer
ALL Full HD video cameras shoot at 1920 x 1080p or use only 2.1 mp of whatever sensor is on the camera

The only thing that a dSLR has going for it, is the actual size of the individual pixels, so under low light conditions, there will be less noise.

If you want theatrical quality video, you need to consider a 3-CCD video camera like those made by JVC, Sony, Panasonic and Canon. For true high quality video, you need to look at some of the new 4K video cameras being made by Sony, JVC, ARRI and Red One.

I am sure you have the skills to use Yahoo Search to find these websites so you can further explore high quality video cameras

I need a DSLR camera for filming video. What camera and accessories should i get?

Raymond

Hello, i am looking for a dslr camera for video. I am trying to get the video possible so right now price is not very much of a factor. Also Memory space is not a factor either. I just want hand down the best possible dslr video. If its important i am mostly filming professional snowboarding in both day time and night time situations. For me distance is not really much of a factor because i can get as close as i want.Right now i am looking at the nikon d800 mostly, but also the d7100 and the d4. I am also considering cannon but i prefer nikon. So, anyways what would be the best camera, lenses, mic and general setup including anything else necessary to get the best filming possible?

Answer
To answer your questions would be an entire college course in motion photography, and this would not be the venue for that. But I do want to weigh in -
1. Don't pay any attention to those who say a DSLR can't do quality video. While there was a time when still cameras' video quality was sub-par, that time is largely over. Even some professional videographers are now buying higher-end DSLRs for their relatively low expense and availability of a wider selection of lenses. The market for pro dedicated video cameras is still strong, especially with newer tech like 4K and 8K beginning to take hold, but the lines are becoming more blurry every day between pro video and DSLR cameras.
2. Listen to photoace. I've been watching these questions for over 6 months now, and when I see he's answered I rarely see a point in adding anything. He is THE MAN - the only reason I'm saying anything now is to counter the naysayers, and to point out that the links photoace provided are over 3 years old, which is still in the right direction, but just needs to be said that things have progressed even further than they suggest (3 years is a long time in tech years). Here are a couple of links to current info I have found:

http://nofilmschool.com/?awt_l=OhIMk&awt_m=3jycuxSUmbBjwS7
http://www.redsharknews.com/

If you have $5-$10K to spend on low-medium end video equipment, or $15-$25K for the real pro thing, by all means go video camera (and many don't like the term "camcorder" - sounds very consumerish)
But if you want some really good gear (and don't forget the audio!) for up to $5K, you can do well with a DSLR.
