It obviously needs to be fairly light and not too large. I would still like something that produces good quality photos and is not too delicate. Preferably less than $500, though feel free to mention more expensive cameras.
Thanks, Longshiren. :-) I looked at the Panasonic site and found the Lumix TS2 to be a good camera for my needs.

Answer
Check out the Panasonic Lumix TS10,

"a new rugged, waterproof, shockproof, freezeproof, and dustproof camera . The camera is rated as waterproof down to 10 feet underwater, drop-proof to falls of up to 5 feet, and freezeproof down to temperatures of 14 degrees Fahrenheit. Its 2.7-inch LCD screen has an antireflective coating..

The 14-megapixel TS10 offers an optically stabilized 4X optical zoom lens (35mm to 140mm), Intelligent Auto features, the high-speed autofocus system found in the LX5, and 720p video recording as motion JPEG files

Available in September for US $250.00

What is the best underwater or waterproof digital camera that takes good video for editing?

0909

I like to edit videos with video clips from boating and jet skiing so it has to have clear video and i would like to try shooting video underwater a little. I like small compact digital cameras that are the square hold not the camcorder flip out style. I don't want to spend more than $300. What's the best camera for me?

Answer
Canon PowerShot D10 12.1 MP Waterproof Digital
Features
12.1-megapixel CCD captures enough detail for photo-quality poster-size prints
Waterproof to 33 feet, cold resistant from 14-104 degrees (F) and shockproof up to 4 feet
DIGIC 4 Image Processor; evolved Face Detection Technology plus Face Detection Self-timer
Smart AUTO intelligently selects the proper settings

im a beginner filmmaker and need a camera, dont know if i should go for a camera or camcorder. does anybody know any good camera/camcorder that are really good quality, got $1,000 to spend. anyone who knows any good cameras. i would also want to know any cameras that are good in low light as i record at night, thanks

Answer
Basically it's based on your budget. Lots of money and you're good to go with a Canon 1D MkX. or something from the RED or Alexa stable but the reality is you're just starting out, so I'm going to give you a heretical answer.

Nobody cares what your film was shot on, they care that you tell a good story and the acting and editing is handled well. If you can incorporate decent sound design, you are good to go. Image quality is at the back of that list because people will forgive a lot for good story.

Oh and people who give overtly technical answers are usually full of crap. They've never actually done something with a DSLR or a camcorder to actually know what they're talking about. If they had, they'd know there are software workarounds for interpolation. Bigger issues with DSLRs are usually focus and depth of field based.

I've had three features shot. One on Super 16mm, one on a 5DMk2 and one on a 7D. All of them were edited and all of them sold, Were there issues in post? Sure, what film doesn't have them? Regardless on what they were shot.

For a G you can pick up a decent used Canon T2i on Craigslist or Kijiji. It'll probably be the body only and that'll run you between $350 and $450. Spend another $80 on a nifty fifty (50mm F1.8) prime and pick up a 75-300 USM Zoom for about another 150. It won't be stabilized but don't sweat it, only use it on a tripod. I've got a Rotopax LED light I use with Gels for fill stuff. It'll make your low light stuff stand out. Don't shoot in the dark, light for it.

But above all, work on your scripts and the actors giving the best performance possible. Make lots of short films and learn from your mistakes. Make lots of mistakes and don't be afraid to fail. Failure is the best teacher of all.

Lots of people will tell you why it won't work. Don't listen and do it anyway. Then you will know why it did or did not work.

If it was easy, everybody would be doing it... well.

Please help me with a camera!?

Jake

I am a 14 year old beginner photographer looking to improve my work. Recently, Costco released a bundle with the camera I've been looking at! Can you look at it and let me know whether it's a good deal or not? If not, please suggest different options please!

You can find the deal here:
http://t.costco.com/Nikon-D5200-DSLR-Camera-2-Lens-Bundle.product.100032348.html

Also, find me on Instagram! My username is hi_im_jake (:

Answer
Hi Jake, i think you should defiantly choose this package! It's a good price, good for beginners, and it's a Nikon!!!! I would recommend getting a backup battery set just in case. Also another, larger memory card would be nice especially if you take lots of pictures! I'm 15, and when i bought me camera and supplies, i got it all used because I'm pretty cheap! kijiji is a good site for used camera items i find! Anyways, keep your eyes open for good deals and do lots of research before you make any finale decisions on your purchase.

Which Blackberry is better, 9320 or 9300?

blackberry 9320 camera megapixel
on BlackBerry Curve 9320 - Mobile Gazette - Mobile Phone News
blackberry 9320 camera megapixel image

Liz

Advantages & disadvantages please. Also, which battery dies quicker?

Answer
i highly recommend the blackberry curve 9320 because it has better battery life
if u want to buy the 9300 it wont be good
Advantage: sometimes their the same battery life but 9300 dies quicker and also 9320 has 3 hours of listening music etc.
advantage:it has 3.2 megapixel camera with FLASH,which the 9300 DOESNT it has faster internet service & it is 40% faster than the 9300
disadvantage: it does not have the forward and rewind button on the top which is kinda disappointing
Advantage: it has a headphone jack at the top not at the side so its better for u to listen to music :)

So if u wanna get a BB, i would recommend u the 9320,
PS if u live in London which i do u can get it from Tesco verrryyy cheeaaappplylyyyy its for £ 139.97 only, in other shops is £160-170
PS in Sutton cheam Tesco there are very cheap phone but brilliant :)
Hope this has helped

Are there any disadvantages to having a high megapixel camera sensor?

what the highest megapixel camera you can buy
on Canon PowerShot SX160 IS (Black) 16-megapixel digital camera with 16X ...
what the highest megapixel camera you can buy image

No

except that the images will take a lot of space on my memory card, will there be other disadvantages to having a 36 megapixel camera sensor?

Answer
There are lots of reasons to use fewer Mp, the more pixels you cram onto a small sensor the lower the dynamic range (skies will burn out to white and the dark shadows will block out to black more readily and record next to no detail), the noisier the images will be, the worse the low light performance will get, in extreme cases you can get the sensor out resolving the lenses. The pixel density figure is every bit as important as the mp count with camera sensors.

My Pentax Q has this sensor out resolving lenses problem, 12Mp crammed onto a very small sensor. because of diffraction you can't use any aperture smaller than f8 on a Pentax Q and you need high quality lenses to get decent images.

The only advantage to lots of Mp is you can print bigger. The high pixel count sensor WILL record more detail, but you can only use that higher resolution in large prints, by which I mean prints measured in Feet rather than Inches, all other outputs need, and can only use, far less.

The computer monitor your using to check your images and edit them will only have a resolution of some 1900 X1280 pixels, that's only a 2.3Mp image, all the extra resolution recorded by your 36Mp sensor is just not shown and is ignored, the high resolution cannot be displayed by the average monitor. Even a very expensive 16bit, high resolution monitor, which cost more than a small car to buy, can only display a 6Mp image!

You need more resolution for large prints, but even an A3 print only needs 12.3Mp any more than that and the extra data is just dumped, not needed, the printer can't reproduce it! Which is why most DSLR cameras have a sensor around 12Mp, it's the best compromise of pixel density and resolution. You can print an image from a 12mp camera much larger than this A3 size and still get good results.

Most cameras are bought by people that know nothing about photography, they think that surely the higher the resolution the better the image, but it's not true, for the most part the higher the resolution, or, to be more accurate, the higher the pixel density, the WORSE the images are, but people who know nothing go for the high pixel count headline figure every time and manufacturers have to fulfill that need or sell fewer cameras.

I want to buy the right memory card for my canon SD890 IS 10 megapixel camera?

Shellybell

I just bought a Canon 10 megapixel camera and i want to know which memory card will give me the best results. I have a 1gb and a 2.0 gb. Does it really matter? or is there one even better than this. That will accommodate my 10 megapixel camera.

Answer
It doesn't really matter what capacity card you have, as long as it's enough capacity for your needs. Cards are very cheap these days, so you can buy several if you need to.
What matters most though, is that you use a fairly high speed card, because your camera (even though it's only compact) really does take advantage of a fast SD card.
So, if you're not using one already, I would recommend the very popular, Sandisk Extreme III or similarly fast card.

How can I take pictures on the beach and keep my DSLR from getting sand in it?

Grayish

I have a Canon EOS Rebel XS DSLR camera and will be going on many beaches this summer in the Caribbean. Is there a way that I can take pictures on the beach with my camera without ruining it?
I'd like to spend little to no money if possible.

Answer
Keep it in a camera bag until needed, keep it round your neck using the neck strap, refrain from rolling around on the sand. Don't put it down on the floor, don't take it into the ocean, don't change lenses unless indoors (or in a car).

What do you think of the verzion phone the voyager?

7 megapixel camera phone image

Cheerleade

i think im going to get the voyager but what do you think about it? is it a good phone or bad? or whats a good phone from verizon? im a teenage girl so i like to text and call my friends all the time. if that helps.

Answer
Im 12 and I have it.

AND ITS AWESOME!!!

It's way better than the dare because it has real buttons if you get tired and annoyed of the touch screen! It has like no problems, and people dont give enough credit as they should to the awesome touch screen.

It also is great for texting and calling! You can easily hear through the phone and its sooo fun! You can hold 200 texts in your inbox!

It also has speakerphone which works wonderfully.

And it's not bulky...its smaller than the original EnV.

It has a 2.0 megapixel camera and video. It's sooo awesome and you can set the pictures to
normal
negative
sepia
aqua
and black and white.
You can also rotate, crop, and zoom (edit) your pics.

The internet rocks on the Voyager. It's pretty fast, and it's really easy and fun to use!

And if you like TV, well this is the phone for you. You can get mobile tv which is a clear, great picture of your favorites tv shows that you can watch anywhere any time!

And the touchscreen. It's so responsive and it responds to you with a vibrate. You can work the touch screen anywhere anytime, too because it's pressure sensored. You can scroll with vibrate on the touchscreen too. And when you touch it it will either make a
digital sound,
xylophone sound, or
water drop sound (my favorite).

Also with the new Voyager (Titanium) you can set your phone theme to black or WHITE (new) which is very cool!

And the inside is a full, great QWERTY keyboard which has nice, spread out, big keys which work great. And the soft keys rock unlike the EnV2's complicated ones. (The EnV2's keys are squashed together, and the Voyager's aren't).

I don't think my Voyager will ever get flimsy because Ive been on it non stop for a long time, and it's still sturdy!

Also, the battery life is lon lasting on the Voyager. if your on it non stop, it will last for 2 1/2 days. But if your on it hardly any, then it may last for a 5 days =) or more...

It gets great reception and service, too.

I dont think there are really any cons about this phone and I think it is wayyy better then the Iphone. I THINKS ITS THE BEST PHONE OUT!

What do u think about future of ARM and Intel?

M

Now, ARM doesn't have so much in big screens. Intel some hours ago talked about Atom Z2420 at CES for mobile phones. The news:
"Bell announced the Atom Z2420 processor for phones, otherwise known as âLexington.â The goal of the Lexington platform is to provide low-cost phones to emerging markets. The CPU can encode and decode 1080p videos, capture photos at 7 frames per second and offer speedy graphics. He then showed a reference Lexington phone and shot the audience at 7fps.

Lexington handsets also support dual-sims, FM radio, microSD Card slots and Intelâs Wireless Display (WiDi) standard for streaming to TVs. Bell then announced that Acer, Lava and Safaricom will be releasing Lexington phones. He then showed the roadmap for Atom phone CPUs, the next of which is Clovertrail+, a dual-core CPU for phones."
How is it good in comparison with high-end ARM (such as snapdragon s4 quad core)? I think the number of photos (7) is by a 5 megapixel camera. Intel introduced 7W ivy bridges (were 17 w before), they provide all day battery life that with the performance they provide, ARM is out of battle. Intel also releases this holiday Intel quad core 22 nm called Bay Trail. Another thing in tablets space against lower ARMs. What ARM is doing right now?

Thanks!

Answer
i think Intel mobile have better future .Intel mobile had warm welcome in market . the Intel powered Lava xolo prices is also less . Hopefully intel Will grow in mobile field .compition is tough though

What camera and lens should I buy for short films?

dslr camera lens reviews
on tests Nikon D60 DSLR camera with AF-S Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 VR lens ...
dslr camera lens reviews image

John Crow

I'm a freshman film student and have limited knowledge of cameras and accessories (lenses, mics, etc). At the end of this semester, I will have around $1500 to spend on a camera and a lens.
I've looked around a little bit, read and watched some reviews as well as tests for each camera and lens but I have mainly been looking at DSLRs.
Most of what I'm wanting to do is Fictional films if that helps to narrow the type of camera and lens any.

Answer
As a film student, I would think that your instructors would have the best answer to your question. With your budget of only $1500, whether you are shooting drama or documentary the camera you buy will not matter.

Just the accessories you will need to turn a dSLR with a video feature into a viable video camera will eat up your whole budget.

I would look for a good used Panasonic video camera with 3-CCD's and all the on-board accessories needed like built-in SMPTE color bars in interlace and progressive modes, zebra settings, XLR audio inputs with a 48-V phantom power supply for external microphones, built-in SMPTE time-code generator/reader and others

I am thinking about getting a canon DSLR camera any suggestions?

missyyymel

So I am into photography and in a couple classes and I finally feel ready to get a DSLR camera. I was thinking of getting a canon but I am open to nikon too, I also would like video with it which would make my price range pretty expensive. The highest I would spend would be 1300, I am not looking for the "best" and most "professional" camera just one that is good quality and an overall good camera. So any suggestions?

Answer
There are a number of good brands so don't be sold on the idea one brand is better than another. I would keep your costs down. I would get a DSLR with a short zoom (like a 18-55mm) to start for around $550 to $1100. Either a 12MP or 15MP will do just fine.

Below, I listed some links where you can look up reviews and see what camera works best for you.

The first link listed below is to a web page that lists the 4 DSLR cameras that can also do HD video that I am recommending you compare. This list will let you compare features and specs, also it has links to reviews of the cameras, the reviews include sample images from the cameras.

Also I included some links to some dealers so that you can try and get the best price. Some of these dealers are including some nice extras, free shipping is very common, and sometimes they are offering a free memory card and/or camera bag. Sometimes you have to click in the âadd to cartâ button to see the actual price.

Here are some models that I think are well worth researching with estimated prices:

Nikon D5000 12MP DSLR Digital Camera w/18-55mm VR Lens - $659
Nikon D90 12MP DSLR Digital Camera w/18-105mm VR Lens - $1065
Canon EOS Rebel T1i (500D) 15MP DSLR w/EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens - $769
Pentax K-x 12MP DSLR with 18-55mm Zoom lens - $550

Of a quick side note: I am a Nikon user, but think all three cameras are excellent. I like that the Nikon D5000 has the movable LCD screen, that would seem to be valuable in doing video. I am very intrigued by the Pentax K-x partly because it does HD video but also because of how impressive it seems to work at high ISO settings which can be great help in low light situations (see the photo.net link below). Do some research, I would ask some questions in the discussion forums at photo.net where photographers can share their experiences and samples of their work.

Hope this helps. Pick a price range, some features you know you want, and even consider which camera feels good in your hand a factor. Plenty of great cameras, get one you like and start learning the principles of photography and you will be on your way to making some great images. If you think I can be of any help, please to do contact me.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

How to stay organized but stylish while traveling?

dslr camera walmart
on Nikon 1 White V2 Digital SLR Camera with 14.2 Megapixels and 10mm-30mm ...
dslr camera walmart image

Natalie

I'm 16 and I'm flying on an ten-hour including transit flight to Italy in a couple of weeks (flying that long a distance alone for the first time) and I will be bringing along a notebook laptop and a small DSLR camera, but I'd preferably like to have my hands free so I don't lose or forget anything. How can I arrange my carry-on so everything fits? I dislike backpacks during the summer because they make my back feel sticky, and having just one bag would be ideal. Any suggestions for bags, or organizing tips?

Answer
Get a tote bag of some sort--there are many options, either through a luggage outfitter or from Land's End or l.l.bean. I do think you'd get the most room from a backpack, though.

I would also have a non-paper folder that you can put any papers in (itinerary, confirmations, etc) so that they don't get crushed or crumbled. I just bought one for under $1 at Walmart yesterday myself for the same purpose.

Get a plastic toiletry bag from either Walmart or Target's travel items' section. They are better than the standard quart-size ziplock bag becuase they are more durable and won't break/leak. You can put as many under 3 oz bottles in it that will fit. For me a mini deoderant, toothbrush, toothpaste, hand sanitizer, a comb, and some makeup is a must.

I also invest in a travel wallet--it is large enough to fit your passport and you can keep all your other items (credit, debit, and driver's licenses) with you and everything (including cash, etc) is all in one wallet. Mine came from Crate & Barrel.

When selecting a travel bag, make sure it has a section for your laptop...that will keep that part organized. Also make sure you have a case to protect your DSLR. Then you can put magazines, iPod, etc in the travel bag and have everything organized!

Are there any dslr cameras similar to a Pentax KX? (in terms of different color choices for the body)?

I love how the Pentax K-x looks, but I'm not really into Pentaxes. Are there any other dslr cameras that come in different colors other than the traditional black or silver?

Answer
The only other one I've seen is the Sony Alpha. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Sony-10.2-MP-DSLR-A330L-T/11986966 If the Pentax colors are successful, I am sure the others will follow their lead shortly. I have a Pentax and a Canon. The Pentax gets more use because all old lenses ever designed for Pentax will work with them. I have some great old glass that I got cheap.

will the prices of digital cameras ever go down?i mean i went to walmart and target today and they where like 100 dollars-400 dollars.i need a reasonable price, but a good one.i dont have that much money.can someone tell me where i can get a good one for a resonable price?

Answer
They surely are going down, as we speak. Not at lightning speed, but even though I already have a digital camera, (my 3rd), that does everything I want and room to grow into my camera, I still can't help but check out other models and prices of the cameras. I am amazed how the models with more megapixels and features, cost the same as the first digital camera I purchased in Nov. '05 with less than 5 mp and less features. As I check out the sales papers this morning, I'm amazed how much SD/MMC (memory card) are becoming more affordable! Saw 1G for $19.99 and a 2G for $29.99! No rebates to send in either!

Also saw a bank ad giving away Canon's PowerShot A460, (which is an awesome camera), if you open a business checking/saving account. Key Bank I believe it was...

But back to your question. My first digital, (Sony), I purchased it at my local department store. My second and my most current, (Canons), I purchase online. Here is where I go to shop on-line for the best price for digital cameras. Just type in your camera model in the âsearch keywordâ: http://lowpricedigital.com/category.asp?... Buy soon or check daily, for prices changes daily amongst merchants. Also check if the camera is being sold ânewâ or ârefurbishedâ. I saved over a hundred dollars, because the merchant was selling at a much better price than my local store, and including not having to pay for sales tax, (since I live out of state from the on line merchant I purchased from), and no S&H because some offer free S&H.

Refurbished are usually repaired and reconditioned from the manufacturer. These are usually merchandise that have been returned to the manufacturer, after a customer may have purchase and then returned within a short and certain period of time, or complains of some type of problem with the item. Then they are checked and reconditioned/repaired to "new" status, but must be identified as "refurbished". Usually the warranty on refurbished items are for a longer period of time than the new item. I purchased a 'refurb' and have had no problems at all.

But if you prefer to drive and purchase locally, the two stores you mentioned, Best Buy, Circuit City, Comp USA, and check out the camera stores. They are all pretty competitive. Even consider Office Max, Office Depot and Cost Co/Sam's Club...any store with a camera department. You may be pleasantly surprised with their prices.

Good luck!

Contests- How to win a scholarship or win a contest to win money or for a DSLR Camera?

^^^^ I wasnt exactly sure how to word the title.

However, I am wondering if there is any contests out (on the web or by mail) to win a DSLR camera
Preferably Canon or Nikon.
OR if there are any scholarships that help pay for one.

If you can post links or have any information that would be great. I am attempting to broaden my horizons in the photography art. But simply cant afford it.

what are the advantages of Canon over Nikon and what are the advantages of Nikon over Canon?

Kiwi Man

When it comes to DSLR cameras, would you go with Nikon or Canon? What are the first things you'd look for?

Which brand usually does a better job? I know it all depends on the camera model, the lenses, the creativity of the photographer, etc. but what are the advantages of Canon over Nikon and what are the advantages of Nikon over Canon?

thanks

Answer
Currently Nikon seems to have the edge, with the D3100, D5100 and D7000 each besting their Canon counterparts. That being said, the difference is miniscule, and these two brands tend to leapfrog each other every few years. So if things do as they did in the past, Canon will take the lead in two years from now again.

Both make excellent cameras that will exceed your abilities as a photographer for years to come. Since you'll not just buying a camera but basically starting a camera system with multiple lenses, flash units etc, it would be wise not necessarily to get the one that makes slightly better cameras today, but the system that you're more comfortable with in general. Also, Canon tend to be a bit cheaper than Nikon when it comes to high quality lenses.

Add Pentax to the list of brands that you consider. Pentax makes fine cameras and sells them at excellent prices, and the lenses are very affordable (affordable does not equal cheap).

highest megapixel security camera image

Just trying to get input from someone that has an antique mall of similar business. I want to purchase a camera system that I can set up in "EACH" booth or atleast every other booth. Some can be dummies but I would like for atleast half of them to be the real deal. I ahve heard of dealers using globes and dummy cameras to deter thieves; does this work?
What system would you recommend and please don't say a 10,000 one, I cant afford that at the moment.

Answer
Hello

Dummy cameras are the worst possible they don't provide security and if someone is injured or claims to be injured in your store they can sue for providing a false sense of security. No professional security installer uses dummy cameras.

Here is a DVR that will work perfectly for you.

http://www.ascendentgroup.com/x4s.htm

I would recommend a Standalone DVR as they are more reliable and since they are linux based they are virus ans spy ware free.

The X4S Series DVR is an intelligent and professional CCTV management solution, integrating the latest technology and the most advanced features while maintaining a simple, intuitive, and graphical interface. The X4S Series DVR is a 24/7 turn key solution that meets demanding security needs to suit industrial and commercial applications. The X4S DVR is compatible with the X4 platform, allowing it to act as an IP server, while still remaining a standalone solution and allows you to view your cameras instantly over the internet with a PC or cell phone like the I-phone.

also here is some information on DVR and cameras you may want to read before buying a CCTV system.

Not all DVRs and security equipment are created equal, in fact there are many options that offer varying performance much like the automobile industry. In the world of DVRs you can find the equivalent of a $10,000 Kia and a $350,000 Ferrari and everything in between. Both have 4 wheels and windshield but that where the similarities end, itâs under the hood that counts. Just like any other consumer electronic in the end you get what you pay for.

I suggest you buy a PC based DVR has they have more processing power and normally have a much smaller file size and offer more features then Standalone DVR's. I know many people buy a cheap standalone DVR, only to upgrade to a PC based in 6 months especially when they are using it to manage a store remotely. Also PC based allows you to record up to 64 cameras where a standalone will have a limit of 16.

Many people have the misconception that a PC-Based DVR is simply an off-the-shelf PC with video capture (encoder) cards, display (decoder) cards and some generic OEM software. A true DVR requires years of research and development to facilitate the seamless integration of both the hardware and software. DVRs are highly complex systems that must run 24/7, processing millions of images per day. This makes consumer-level hardware inadequate for DVRs which is why Ascendent uses custom-built PCs with performance-level hardware.

My personal favorite DVR is Ascendent X4 series: Ascendentâs Tri-Fusion Hybrid Platform allows for the creation of a true hybrid surveillance system by utilizing the advantages of Analog, Megapixel, and IP technologies for unparalleled customization and expandability.

The X4 also uses the latest H.264/SVC codec offer video substantially better quality,. While its file size sizes is 30% smaller than MPEG-4, 60% smaller than MPEG-2, and exponentially smaller than MJPEG.

File size is crucial to streaming because most DVRâs on the market record at real time performance (30FPS per channel) so on a 4CH is trying to send 120, 8CH 240, and a 16CH 480 images per second which requires way too much bandwidth even for the most extreme internet connections.

The smaller the files size the more images are able to be sent, and the faster they can be processed improving both FPS and speed. File size is the heart of any DVR and goes far beyond just its streaming capabilities, as it also determines the recording storage time, how much you can back up at once, how fast it renders and searches video. The file size of a DVR impacts the performance of the DVR in just about every aspect from speed to longevity and is often the most important spec of any DVR.

If you are buying a DVR and streaming is a high priority I suggest you ask for a demo and connect to the DVR to make sure it is able to stream fast enough for your needs. Most DVRs say they have remote viewing but it is often too slow and laggy to be of any use especially if it is a standalone. Some good DVR brands that I recommend are Bosch, Pelco, Honeywell and Ascendent. These brands are what security professionals use.

I recommend Ascendent as they are less expensive because they cameras for companies like Bosch and Pelco and offer better performance but any of these 3 brands will work well.

These brand manufacturers also have a complete line of CCTV cameras and DVR for any application from residential to military and stand behind there warranties. You want to get a good bran name otherwise you will likely buy a product that work and cant be returned.

I want to install a video security system and view the images over the internet. What do I need to install?

Ken B

I will be viewing it remotely. Aside from the camera kit, do I need a PC on site? Do I need my own a web site?

Answer
David , Every single one of your posts relating to security cameras advertises techcctv which is blatant disregard of posting rules.

All you need is a DVR with internet hooked up.
and allow your router to let the DVR stream the images by forwarding a port (normally port 80)

most DVR will allow you to conect iwth internet explorer and view your images online.

Bellow is a writup just becasue DVR lets you connect does not me it will be usefull some DV iamges are poor wuality and tranmit so slow they are useless ready bellow for more information.

Cameras capture images which are then sent to a DVR (digital video recorder) which then based on your setting decides what images to keep example only keep images when there is movement (motion recording).

Is common digital camera able to capture good images as the DSLR camera do?

dslr camera meaning
on Nikon D3s DSLR Best DSLR Cameras 2011 Budget Wise
dslr camera meaning image
Q. I mean like, can we produce beautiful images using common camera as if it were taken using DSLR camera used by most photographers?

Answer
yes. it is possible to take just as good pictures with a point and shoot, however there are more limitations, so you can't take the variety of good pictures that you can with a dslr. the ability to change lenses and add filters on a dslr widens the range of things you can do greatly. in addition, dslr's often have greater latitude in things like shutter speed, aperture, etc . which gives you greater ability to take pictures in more conditions. they are simply better cameras which allow you to do more things. a good photographer can take good images with almost any camera, but each camera has its own limitations. the better the camera, the less limitations.

what type of dslr camera do ulzzangs use?

Dewi AnneC

im planning to buy one and i would like a dslr camera that can shot ulzzang-y photos. I know most of them do photoshop but still i want a camera like they use.i like D550. Any recommendations?

Answer
The last Korean photographer I ran into was using a Nikon D3 with 70-200 mm and 200-400 mm lens at an airshow.

My guess is that those Ulzzang photos are taken using just about any dSLR camera. The style and quality has more to do with the skills of the photographer, than the actual camera brand they use

So, if you like the Canon 550D, go for it, but the camera will not do anything until you tell it to and that means that you must be able to control it.

is the instinct s30 a good phone?

Chad

i'm looking for a phone that has good texting, good applications, good music, and great internet.

Answer
I got my Instinct s30 about a week ago. I am IN LOVE.

The texting is a little difficult at first but with practice,it becomes very easy. You can text with the phone horizontal, vertical,or even use your finger to write what you want to type. That feature is a little hard to use but I guess if you really wanted to... Anyhow, the phone also has a conversation software so instead of going back and forth between your inbox and outbox, you can read a whole conversation at a time.It also has a feature that lets you easily delete only a few texts at once,or all if you so choose.

The phone comes with some great Demo apps. but if you want the full application, you'll have to pay a little.First, there is something called "Opera Mini".I have little interest in it but it is some kind of application that deals with the internet. Then there are all the games, such as demo versions of Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader,Brain Challenge(fun),Guitar Hero World Tour,Puzzle Quest,Tetris, and World Series of Poker. It also comes with an Instant Messaging app. in which you can use AIM,Windows Live,or YIM.The IM app. is awesome because, thanks to the huge screen, it almost feels like you're on a computer.

Furthermore the s30 comes equipped with a music player, through which you can play your own music uploaded from a computer or you can purchase music from the Sprint Music Store. One of my favorite "Fun" features is the TV/Video feature. You can actually watch full-length episodes of TV shows right from your phone. The video quality isn't great but if you're bored,it's something to do.It also comes with a Radio feature but I haven't really checked it out yet.

The camera is a 2.0 megapixel camera and I have to say,for a phone,it is phenomenal.I previously had an LG Rumor and the camera was worthless but this phone's camera is astonishing. If the picture is too close or there isn't enough light,it even warns you of a possible "Fuzzy Picture".Much like on the iPhone, you can use your finger to scroll through your pictures.

In the "Fun" section of the phone, there are also some apps. called NFL and NASCAR. I'm guessing they come with news about the sports.I don't really know because I have little interest. You can also add to your "Fun" section MySpace, Facebook, Photobucket, Youtube, and Flickr.

Youu can also access your email on the phone easily. You just set up your account and the phone will recieve and send emails as needed.I find it extremely useful.

The voicemail feature is one of my favorites. You can choose which voicemails you want to listen to,delete without listening if you want. It's exactly like the iPhone's voicemail. It's really awesome.

Then you have the basics like Navigation(really easy to use),Calculator, Notes, Calendar, and Clock(where you set up alarms and things like that).

The "Web" section comes with the Web(where you can search for anything), Live Search(GPS), Weather, News, Sports, Movies(super handy), and My Account.

The sound quality for music is absolutely amazing. One thing I hate is downloading a ringtone that I love and then hearing it and it sounds horrible coming through my phone's speaker. The s30 plays music clearly and beautifully, just like any other speaker.

I have to be 100% honest about the internet, however. It is just a tad slow and a little frustrating. If you're patient though, the quality is great. There is a feature that lets you view it as if you were on a desktop. It's great. If internet is your main concern,I don't know if this phone is the one for you. However, out of Sprint's choices,it may be your best option.

I absolutely adore my Instinct s30 and,as you can tell,I love it so much I'm willing to be an advocate for Sprint.A lot of people had problem's with the s30's predecessor but this phone is amazing. If you purchase this phone, you really will not regret it.

why would a photograph of an offset printed piece show a moire pattern?

highest megapixel camera
on Canon PowerShot A590 IS Digital Camera - 8.0 Megapixels, 4x Optical ...
highest megapixel camera image

4thtennenb

the printed piece to the naked eye doesnt show a moire pattern. it is definitely the printed pieces' line screen as the solid/pantone color and the rest of the image that isn't printed looks fine.

it's also a very high megapixel camera set up/ pro quality.

Answer
If you look at the image with a magnifying glass, you will see that it is actually made up of tiny colored dots that are too small for the eye to notice. If it's a black and white image, they will be shades of gray. Your high-megapixel camera, however, can see the dots because it has millions of pixels that are even smaller than the dots. The moire pattern is due to the printed dots falling in and out of phase with the sensor's pixels.

You could try putting the image part slightly out of focus, which would smear out the linear frequency differences. You might also try shooting the image part at lower resolution. In either case, you'd have to layer it back into to larger work.

Is there a way you can make photos look higher quality?

coolkid999

I have some photos that are high quality but is there any way to make them look even clearer as if they were taken by a higher megapixel camera?

Answer
More megapixels does not make pictures clearer unless you're taking a very small piece of the picture and blowing it up. Its about precise focus, fast enough shutter speeds and great glass when it comes to taking clear pictures. My 5MP Olympus C5050 takes pictures as clear as any of my DSLR's, maybe better in some cases. I don't have as much latitude to do large prints with it, but in terms of clarity and quality overall, its remarkable. I have done larger prints with it, but natively right out of the camera, no. Sometimes, for some shots, you can intentionally soften the picture giving the pic an "artistic" feel, so that the focus becomes more secondary. The shot has to be the right kind of mood to pull it off though, it doesn't work with anything. I've done it to save shots that I really loved, but as they were they just didn't work. Here's an example.

http://www.pbase.com/inspzil/image/18396218

Its not a perfect system, but if you have something that's good, but not perfect, it can at least make it salvageable. Upsizing them in photoshop will effectively make them more megapixels, but it won't make them any clearer. You just have to take them as clear as possible. Sharpening pics after the fact most of the time has no effect, or a negative effect on the image. The only time I've found it to be effective is when shrinking an image down, you can hit sharpen once to make it clearer. Good Luck.

id love to know when is the best time to purchase a DSLR. im looking into investing in a great camera with outstanding picture quality and technology. Where can all the good deals be found? what time of year is perfect for this sort of purchase?

Answer
The best time would be when the camera maker of your choice announces newer models. Then, if you don't have to have the "latest & greatest", you can get great mark-down deals on the previous models. It's like buying cars. When the 2012 models are arriving, it's a great time to buy a new 2011.

Where can i win a free canon or nikon camera?

king

I am a photography freak but dont have much budget to buy a new DSLR. Can some one please suggest me a website or something where I can have a DSLR for free? For location preferences, I live in India.

Answer
Hi King..

There are many contests which offer SLR Camera as prizes.. You need to keep searching for them and might hit the jackpot!

The one that is going on now is from Nikon (Nikon Photo Contest International 2010-2011). They are offering different cameras ranging from Nikon D3S digital-SLR camera (costing Rs 2.9 lac) to D5000 (Rs 50K). There are 53 cameras to be won and just not that, you will have Lenses, Speedlight and other accessories along with this. Indians are open to participate.

Link: http://www.nikon.com/about/news/2010/0630_npci2010_01.htm

Some tips to win:
# Do check the previous years winners list and you can get an idea of the kind of photos that get selected for finals
# Comply strictly by the rules (format, image size, categories etc.)
# Check the list of judges, google their name and go to their websites, see what kind of photos they like to shoot..

Do keep in mind.. if you are opting to win a prize, don't go by the notion of what photo of yours you like most.. but see and enter only those photos which may win you a camera.

Last year, a young boy from Mumbai won a high end DSLR from Canon in a street photography contest. He didn't even own a camera, he had hired one for a day from a local store for the contest.. took pictures, submitted them and he became a Lucky winner!! The article about him came in Better Photography Magazine.

So, there's all hope!!

All the best!!

EDIT: Here's one contest for Canon EOS 7D digital SLR camera to be won. Follow the link for details:

Samsung galaxy sII PLUS or S3? *read description?

Brennan

**btw i know this should be in a different category, but if i live in holland, and the SII plus has only been released in european countries (IE here in holland, where i live) then perhaps already maybe one of you has it, and can tell me about it.

Theres quite a big price jump in these two phones but heres what i like about each of them:

S2 PLUS (costs 340 euros at T-Mobile, sim free):
1-S2 design + S3 blue, yes please
2-retains the good 8MP from the S3, if it was 5MP, id be like screw it
3-1.2GHZ dual core isn't too much down from 1.4 ghz quad core (IMO, it couldve been 1.0 ghz dual core)
4-Much cheaper
5-Retains most features of touchwiz nature UX

But....
1-People say the broadcom processor is worse than exynos in the original S2, like wtf samsung why
2-Will 1.2ghz be enough for future android versions?
3-No LED indicator. -.- boo.
4-A re-vamp from a 2011 phone could have saw samsung upgrade the screen resolution, but no, lets be lazy
5-Played with this phone in a shop, browsed the web on wifi for 15 minutes, depleted 9% of the battery = worrying.
6- Camera has NO continuous shot, did you know that?

S3 (costs 479 euros as of 11 february at select media marts):
1-Overall, better phone
2-IMO, its the "perfect" size, both dimensions/screen size
3-Ultimate Samsung Flagship atm
4-I wonder if it actually IS worth it spending that much more for the S3
5-Good battery life i hear

But...............
1-I find the back of the phone, particularly the camera, ugly
2-We are so close to the release of the S4....
3-Linkiing to point 2, if the price would drop just a bit and im a bit in a hurry to upgrade

Oh and my existing phone is a galaxy mini II, got it in septermber, i dont care if its gunna get updated to JB, ive waited too long, and besides, battery life is detoriating, screens too small (3.27"), cameras rubbish (3MP, told you im a keen photographer)
what do you guys think? thanks!!

Answer
I went for the S2 because...
1. I think the size is just right
2. It has plenty of processing power for what I use it for
3. megapixels are irrelevant when it comes to picture quality. It's ok for a phone but for anything remotely serious I got a big nikon
4. it's already expensive enough

Now, when I compare the S2 to the S2plus I just don't get that phone.

A good camera for taking pictures with 300 DPI?

highest mp on camera
on Samsung ES-ST90 14.2MP Digital Camera On Sale For $98
highest mp on camera image

Ty

Okay, I know a little bit about digital cameras but not much. I have a 5 MP camera and even when I have it set for the highest-quality setting, when I check the properties of my photos they show that the X and Y numbers are 180, which I think means 180 DPI, right? So what camera would I need to take pictures that are 300 DPI, which is so often requested? 8 MP? 12 MP? Any suggestions?

Answer
DPI is a printer setting. It has nothing to do with what camera you use or how many magapixels the camera has.

If your camera has a default setting of 180 DPI (which is quite possible because different camera brands have different default settings) it means is that if you don't specify a print size, you'll get 180 Dots Per Inch. But when you DO specify a print size, the printer will automatically re-calculate the dots per inch. When you specify a small print size, like 6x4 inches, the printer will cram the dots closer together than 180 DPI to achieve 300 DPI or even more. When you specify a poster size print, the printer will space the dots out more and you can end up with less than 180 DPI.

Megapixels do come into play with very large pints however. If you have 10 megapixels instead of 5, you can make prints that are twice as big and still achieve 300 DPI resolution.
With a 5 megapixel camera, you can make 6x4 inch prnts at 300 DPI. With a 10 megapixel camera you have enough resolution to make 8x10 inch prints at 300 DPI.

300 DPI is glossy magazine quality. 180 DPI is still okay for casual stuff (so your 5 megapixel camera will still produce full page prints that you can frame) and with a lower DPI than that, you'll begin to notice image degradation. At extremely low dpi settings, the print will start to look a bit fuzzy or you might even see the individual pixels.

What are good Digital camera specs?

Im planning on buying a new digital camera.

What are some specs other than high MP that i should ensure the camera has? The last camera i had had 10mp but always took terrible pictures.

Answer
