Which cell phone on the market has the highest camera resolution for pictures and videos?

parker

Answer
Samsung reinforces its technology leadership by launching the world's first 10 megapixel mobile phone (model: SCH-B600) in Korean market.

Samsung reached another milestone in camera phones by launching 10 megapixel camera phone, which was unveiled at CeBIT in March this year. Samsung has been the first to introduce mobile phone with embedded camera in 2000. Samsung has also launched the world's first 5 megapixel camera phone in October 2004 ; the world's first 7 megapixel camera phone in July 2005.

Samsung's 10 megapixel camera phone (SCH-B600) is 6mm thinner and 10g lighter than the 7 megapixel camera phone (SCH-V770) and sets itself apart from its previous megapixel camera phones by combining mobile TV capability in Satellite standard.

The B600 offers the same level of picture-taking sophistication that a 10 megapixel digital camera offers. The camera function includes 3x optical zoom and 5x digital zoom. It also has auto focus and a flash unit that performs optimally for 10 megapixel photographs.

Also, the B600 comes fitted with a LED autofocus feature which assists users to capture clear, crisp photos even in dark settings. Located next to the lens, the LED autofocus automatically determines the distance and utilizes the appropriate focus setting for optimal photo shooting.

The B600 also supports white balance, manual focus, continuous picture-taking, and interval picture-taking functions.

It also supports Bluetooth which enables users to send pictures wirelessly to other mobile phones, printers or to Bluetooth headsets.

The high color Reproduction TFT-LCD produces the highest possible display for its size. The photo-fine chromic LCD can reproduce 16 million colors, virtually any color found in nature, earning it the "True Color" appellation. Moving pictures can be recorded in QVGA resolution at 15-30 frames per second. Users can watch live TV in crisp picture through Satellite DMB function.

It also supports external memory (MMCmicro) in addition to its internal memory. The mobile phone supports a TV-out function where users can connect their phones to view still or motion pictures.

The B600 comes with a design reminiscent of a real digital camera. The front is designed as a bar-type mobile phone, while the back side is used as the digital camera.

Other advanced functions in the B600 include an MP3 player, business card reader, and 128 polyphonic sounds.

The price of B600 is around 900,000 won (about $ 900) in Korea.

Nokia N8 or Ipod touch 4th generation?

waleed R

Nokia N8 has a 12 megapixel camera not much apps and it supports flash
while the ipod touch has lots of apps, a camera not as good as n8 it doesn't support flash

What do i choose??

Answer
go for the n8. The ipod may offer u more apps but the n8 will offer u more free apps. Just to clarify above, they said ipod touch not iphone so the ipod touch has pretty ordinary features compared to the n8.

Ive got the n8 and ive used the iphone 4, and in all honesty, the n8 is better. So dont have any doubt that its better than the ipod touch.
Except for the n9 (n series nokias are in their own league, and while the n9 is an exceptional phone, the number of apps available isnt much compared to symbian), the other nokias mentioned above, while all symbian^3 devices have the latest features including flash support and 8mp cameras, the n8 is the only one that has a camera with autofocus, and trust me, u notice a difference. Especially when u hook the n8 up to ur tv via hdmi cable: u can project the whole phone onto ur tv: media, music, gaming, web browsing, youtube. The n8 has the best graphics.

does the ipod touch 4 generation 8gb have a camera?

Check this (Almost DSLR) FUJIFILM S1000fd camera - FinePix 10.0-Megapixel Digital.

Wide-angle shooting, a 12x optical zoom and picture stabilization mode combine in this camera for exceptional shooting performance, even at a distance. Plentiful scene modes, autofocus and automatic white balance controls make this camera a snap to operate. You may be able to find it on the Internet for a lower price.

While most of the cameras out there are really good, I would choose Canon over Nikon because it seems like more camera for the money. Some would say Canon withholds their best technology for high end cameras and Nikon implements their best at all levels. Before you decide, read all the text and links in the information below because it will help you know what to look for in a camera.

In new cameras, look for a viewfinder (LCD invisible in bright sun), optical (not CCD) image stabilizer, and check battery prices. High mega pixel settings take longer to process and may not be needed unless required for very large pictures. Maximum print size for a 3 mega pixel setting is 8 x 10 inches. Click links below for more details.

Just saw this Canon A590IS camera at Best Buy and Radio Shack. Think it is a great camera and a best buy. It has a viewfinder, optical image stabilizer, auto focus, and uses NiMH rechargeable batteries.
http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/A590IS/A590ISA.HTM ...
http://bountii.com/deal-1523871-canon-powershot-8-0-megapixel.html ...

For expanded wide angle or telephoto capabilities, the A590 IS is compatible with Canon's accessory lens adapters: A small button next to the lens bezel is actually a latch; press it and you can remove the bezel ring, exposing a bayonet mount for accessory lenses. Canon offers the WC-DC52 0.7x wide-angle lens, the TC-DC52A telephoto lens, the 250D 52mm closeup lens separately, along with the LA-DC52G adapter to mount them on the camera. (Note that the wide, tele, and macro lenses all need the LA-DC52G adapter to mount them to the camera. The lenses won't work by themselves.)

There is no one particular place to get great buys, but you may see something above that really helps you find the best buy. Click on the second link in the information above for an example then search for your camera of choice at the upper left. Camera prices at this link change often.

There are so many cameras out there it is difficult to say which is best, but the second source link will be very helpful as it list most of the cameras out there with prices. The following information should help you know what to look for in a camera.

What gives a camera its picture quality?
The short answer is that it is mostly the skill of the photographer that produces high quality pictures. The lens and camera are very important, but the ability to set the scene, adjust the cameras settings, and hold the camera very still or use a tripod with auto or remote shutter actuation when required is what gets the great pictures.

My camera has 5.2 mega pixel, but I use 3 most of the time because it gives great results, is faster, and takes less memory. Also, it only has a 3 x optical zoom and 7 x digital zoom. I never use the digital zoom because making pictures larger works better on the computer. This is an old camera, but everyone is impressed with the quality pictures it takes ... like magic.

what's a good digital camera to learn photography with?1?

Alicen1ndr

well i joined deviant art a while back and looking at all the photography there made me want to learn how. right now i have a mediocre camera but i don't like taking pix with it; it has a P and M mode but it was obviously designed for point-and-shoot purposes, and my dad got this amazing camera for christmas it's so great i'm not really sure what it's called but the strap says Canon EOS Digital. the features i like the most are the manual focus and zoom. the problem is i'm too young for a job and i want to get the camera by like september. so i calculated that if i make the purchase in september i will have roughly $280..that doesn't go far towards a camera :( but there's a small possibility that i can get another few hundred, but i'm really not sure. i could also maybe borrow half the money from my parents; i've done that before. so with the price range being between $300 and $650 dollars, what do you all reccommend? (ps i want it to be digital)
txx!!!

Need software for a 4.1 Megapixel digital camera?

perkins_20

got a digital camera & it's case & it's strap at a garage sale but there was no software for it to install on the computer.& don't have the money right now to get on eif i could & was wondering what i should do if there is a way to download one for free online

Answer
If it has a usb port then buy a USB cable that fits ure camera and your computer and use that. Your computer will find your camera and use it like a memory stick. (Will look like a drive on your pc). Then you can copy the images directly to your pc.

it's name and version would be helpful in searching some specific software from its manufacturers (if there is any).

whats the best lorex high resoluttion camera out there.?

fencer

I recently bought a Lorex Edge+ LH328501C4 8-Channel Video Security DVR with Internet and im looking to add 3 addituional high end cameras to the system one at the driveway end of the house to keep an eye on the driveway and 2 more at the other end to keep an eye on the street and the neighbors kids which have been know to break into houses and cars in the area.
I would loike something really clear and strong.

Thanks for reading all .

J

Answer
Lorex is complete junk and are extremely low end systems, there is no such thing as a good or high resolution lorex camera. I would recommend dummy cameras they will be just as effective as lorex and you wont be as disappointed by them.

Lorex does not sell to any profession security installer they market to end-user who don't know better because anyone knowledgeable about CCTV cameras and surveillance systems wont touch Lorex with a 10 foot pole.

Always buy DVR and security equipment from a good brand name manufacturer like Pleco, Bosch, Honeywell Ascendent: http://www.ascendentgroup.com

Not all DVRs are created equal, in fact there are many options that offer varying performance much like the automobile industry. In the world of DVRs you can find the equivalent of a $10,000 Kia and a $350,000 Ferrari and everything in between. Both have 4 wheels and windshield but that where the similarities end, itâs under the hood that counts. Just like any other consumer electronic in the end you get what you pay for.

Unfortunately many people buy very low end systems which have poor frame rate and bad image quality because they buy from Amazon, "spy stores" Lorex, Q-see, NCIX, new-egg, and other online retailers who sell cheap products for china there were never intended to be anything more then a nany cam and should never be used to provide security.

My personal favorite DVR is Ascendent X4 series: Ascendentâs Tri-Fusion Hybrid Platform allows for the creation of a true hybrid surveillance system by utilizing the advantages of Analog, Megapixel, and IP technologies .

The X4S also uses the latest H.264/SVC codec offer video substantially better quality,. While its file size sizes is 30% smaller than MPEG-4, 60% smaller than MPEG-2, and exponentially smaller than MJPEG.

The smaller the files size the more images are able to be sent, and the faster they can be processed improving both FPS and speed. File size is the heart of any DVR and goes far beyond just its streaming capabilities, as it also determines the recording storage time, how much you can back up at once, how fast it renders and searches video. The file size of a DVR impacts the performance of the DVR in just about every aspect from speed to longevity and is often the most important spec of any DVR.

If you are buying a DVR and streaming is a high priority I suggest you ask for a demo and connect to the DVR to make sure it is able to stream fast enough for your needs. Most DVRs say they have remote viewing but it is often too slow and laggy to be of any use especially if it is a standalone.

Just like any other consumer electronic in the end you get what you pay for. Most retailers and sellers make about a 40-80% profit margin, this is after costs like shipping and overhead. That means when you buy a product that costs $100.00 the manufacturer usually has only spent $30 to build it which simply means itâs not a good product and will probably have a working life of about 2 months. Cheap products are like disposable razors they are NOT designed to last for a long time and you will end up replacing them every 2 months.

DVRs need to be good quality as they run 24/7 (20X more than the average electronic device) and process anywhere from 30-480 frames per second which in a year is over 15 billion images, and a good DVR should last 3-5 years.

If you are only going to spend 70$ on cameras then you should buy 15 dummy cameras they will be just as effective and cheaper hen swan cameras.

Also as far as night vision or IR cameras go most do not give good images in the dark. Many companies claim good night vision but there are only a handful of brands who give night vision over 30 feet out doors. normally if a cameras is rated 150 feet of IR it will give you ok images at 30 feet at night and good images at about 20 if rated for 60 feet you might get 15 indoors and will be useless outdoors.

2 Great IR outdoor cameras
http://ascendentdvr.com/ascentseries2/52⦠($95)

http://ascendentdvr.com/vistaseries2/vis⦠($235.00)

Some good CCTV brands that I recommend are Bosch, Pelco, Honeywell and Ascendent.

http://www.ascendentgroup.com (best price/ performance)
www.honeywell.com
www.pelco.com/
http://www.bosch.com

Economical DVR's
Two good economical DVRs I would recommend are Ascendent's AVP-4120 DVR or Pelco's DX-400. They will allow you to view all your cameras instantly from anywhere in the world using either IE, or a client software. The AVP-4120 uses the latest H.264 codec to improve streaming and recording time, and will allow PCs and smart phones to remotely view and control your cameras. These are the DVRs I would recommend that are good quality and affordable from companies who stand behind there products.

Again if you are going to buy no name products save money and get dummy cameras they are just as affective and you will be less disappointed.

Hope this Helps,
williammorales93@ymail.com

What is the best camera or should I not?

Q. I am looking into buying a camera or so. But what I need is something tat can record possibly and maybe last along time. See my problem is this I went to San Diego for a buis trip for 5 days and came back (when we were there my boss was asking me about skype so I was like yeah I have all the stuff I'll hook it all back up and check in when I get home). So I did and my gf was at family thing that day when I got home. She got back and 1st thing she noticed was the webcam! She was getting all defensive "how long has that been here?" She was very upset about it. We have been seeing each other for almost 8 yrs. getting ready to be married. So the only thing I don't like is how she is all defensive about it, she's never like that. Oh and she had her best friend spend the night with her also. So should I get a camera and see what happens here when I'm gone? And if so please help me find 1!

Answer
Sounds a little suspicious, but don't know how to set that up. One of the links below shows most of the cameras out there today, but you will need a motion sensor surveillance camera. Maybe you should just ask her what is going on or check with a Geek at some of the camera retailers for the camera that will do the job. This link will give you some ideas. http://www.surveillancesos.com/ ...

The following information should help you decide on a camera and make any camera you choose work better.

The last source link will show you most of the old and new cameras available today with prices.

Digital cameras require lots of power so NiMH rechargeable batteries are a must. The first source link will help you make them work really well in your camera.

The following information should give you some options to consider. One big thing is cleaning battery and camera electrical contacts.

Consider this battery tale of woe. The camera reports battery low and cuts off ... it's really bad electrical contacts. The battery goes into a 16 hour non automatic charger, but the battery is not really low. The battery may now be severely damaged by overcharging. Check out the Energizer Compact Charger at Walmart for $9.76.

Many of the new cameras come with only an LCD display. Would suggest that you find one that has an optical view finder because the LCD is almost impossible to see in bright sun.

Higher mega pixels may not really be the best thing to look for. It is more expensive, takes longer to process, and may not be needed unless you are making a really large picture or blowing up a small part of a picture.

The information about my camera is just to show that you don't need the biggest and best just know how to use the one you have.

My camera has 5.2 mega pixel, but I use 3 most of the time because it gives great results, is faster, and takes less memory. Also, it only has a 3 x optical zoom and 7x digital zoom. I never use the digital zoom because making pictures larger works better on the computer. This is an old camera, but everyone is impressed with the quality pictures it takes ... like magic.

Check with the Geeks in several stores and compare prices. Ask what cameras they own. Once you select a camera read all about it in the owner's manual.

The first source link will help you clean camera and battery electrical contacts. Digital Cameras require lots of power. If the contacts are not really good, it can cause lots of problems.

Just things like this. and suggestions will help!

Answer
You mentioned DSLRs, but at the same time you talk about "scene choices" - that is very much a P&S concept. "Zoom" depends on the lenses you buy with it. If you get a DSLR, you need to really learn how to use it, it is NOT all about automatic settings like a little P&S.

If you want "scenes" and other cute stuff, don't bother getting a DSLR.

Do a lot more reading and learning before you go shopping, otherwise you'll regret your choices very soon.

If you really do want a DSLR, any of the entry level DSLRs would keep you happy for a few years. I'd pick either Canon or Nikon. I have a LOT of contact with other photographers and time and time again it seems that either one of those are most likely to make their owners happy.

The most important part is to buy only the best lenses - camera bodies get upgraded, lenses stay with us.
You WILL regret buying cheap lenses.
Don't rush into buying lenses. Start with a kit lens, get to know your camera, that lens, and all photographic principles.
Through time and through use, you will eventually KNOW what other lenses you'll need/want.
The more time you'll take, the less likely you are to regret your choices.

If you know anyone close to you with a camera, consider borrowing lenses and "picking their brain" about their camera and whatever else they know.

Go to a store and hold a few cameras, see how they feel to YOU.

Keep in mind that buying a DSLR isn't cheap, even if you find a good deal for body and kit lens.

You'll also want and/or need a few other things such as tripod, filters, a bag, sensor cleaning gear, a second battery, memory cards, perhaps a remote shutter release etc.

That's just the small stuff - I can guarantee you that you'll also want more and more lenses.
You'll also want a decent flash some day.

See how that list just goes on and on?
Owning a DSLR isn't cheap - at least not until you have built up a nice stash of gear.

Just some food for thought........

Do lots of research before you buy, and start learning about photography, too.
The very best thing you can do for your photography is to attend a class and read a few books and tutorials. Having some knowledge will make a huge difference to your images.
I hope I have expressed this idea clearly enough: YOU need to learn about photography because even the world's best camera will take lousy shots in the hands of someone who has no clue how to use it.

Canon 7D or Sony's NEX-VG10?

ian n

I film music VIDEOS, YOUTUBE STUFF, and LIVE Musical PERFORMANCES from ARTISTS when they come to my Radio station. I edit with iMOVIE '11, and SONY VEGAS 10. I need a good camera because I refuse to go back to Mini-DV tapes. I hear that a Digital Camera like CANON 7D is very good for PHOTOGRAPHY and VIDEO. Then I hear cool things about the SONY NEX-VG10 Camera. I do want HD VIDEO for editing and YOUTUBE needs. Can anyone help point me in a great direction of what CAMERA i need to get?

Answer
My company bought the Canon EOS 7D for stills for a task requiring wireless remote control and remote imaging of the live view and capture to a laptop hard drive (worked just fine for this task) but after I played with the video and read all I could about using DSLR for video, we bought a second just for video clips of company work. Now I want my own (so that's three). I see why its selling so well. Its extraordinary quality video in low light situations, its quality file format, and its low cost for a camera with the advantage of being able to use various lenses, especially fast lenses for depth of field limiting control makes it a better choice for our work than a prosumer HD "video camera."

Video has never been so much fun. Now there is a whole lot of artistic control possible that I am interested in exploring. I suspect there will be many other amateurs who will find fun with manual video using a DSLR like the 7D. Its total manual control makes it challenging, fun, and capable of video that you can be pleased with (no matter how amateur) because you had control, you had choice and you used all your skills, no matter how slight at the time. Its very addictive and many amateurs will be carried away with artistic enthusiasm, providing you have the patience to practice.

Does more megapixels mean a better camera?

John Czarc

Does more megapixels mean a better camera?

Answer
Size matters. Sensor size matters more than pixel count.

Among EQUAL SIZE SENSORS, having more pixels MIGHT be an advantage, but by no means does it indicate a better camera.

First, you have to decide what you want in a camera. To some, the smaller a camera is, the "better" it is. If you want high ISOs, look for that. And so on...

There are a lot of things that might make a camera "better" than the number of pixels.

What Does MP in Camera's Mean? (Megapixels, I Know, but what are Mega Pixels?)?

Sarah

Is it better to purchase a camera with 10MP or 6MP? What's the difference? Like a memory thing and how much it can hold?

Answer
Pixels - How many are enough?

If you always plan to compose your pictures perfectly, you don't need a whole lot of pixels. These days, I'd say that 5 MP or even 4 MP is fine for the average snapshooter and this can be obtained without unreasonable expense. If you want to allow for cropping, which means enlarging only a portion of your image, the more pixels the better.

Imagine taking a scenic view and then noticing that the middle 20% of the photo would make an even better picture. Suppose you take a picture of a whole group of people and Aunt Clara really, really looks great in the picture, but everyone else looks lousy. If you have the pixels to work with, you can still make a decent print of Aunt Clara that she would be happy to have. If you buy an 8-to-10 MP camera and don't want to TAKE large photos, you can always set the camera to a lower file size. You can never go the other direction, though. Unless the cost is a major issue, buy the camera with more pixels. You will never be sorry that you did, but you might one day be sorry that you didn't.

I have a few photos on Flickr to include in a discussion on how many pixels are enough. Go to my page at http://www.flickr.com/photos/samfeinstein/ Near the top, click on "tags." In the "Jump to" box, enter the word "Pixels" and then press the "GO" button. Some of the pictures are from a 4 MP or even 3 MP camera, showing you what you might expect without any cropping. I think they are quite acceptable. Some of the pictures are from a 10 MP camera (the swan and the pansies), showing the value of having those large images so that you can crop a smaller image out of the original picture and still end up with a satisfactory image. There is one VGA picture, just to show what you could expect from 640 x 480 pixels - not much.

Having said all that, though, pixels are not the only measure of image quality. The sensor size is important as well as the image processing software included in the camera. (See http://www.flickr.com/photos/7189769@N04/476181751/
You need to read reviews if you want a critical understanding of image quality for particular cameras. Try http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/ for more information on the cameras you are considering. Pixels are not the decision maker, but they are the tie breaker, so go for the higher pixel count.

You can go there and click on "Buying Guide" and then "Features Search" to specify how many pixels you want to look at.

You can also go to http://www.steves-digicams.com/default.htm and click on "Our reviews," where you will find catagories of cameras arranged by pixel count.

What are the best megapixels in a camera?

Q. As far as high quality goes? Is it the higher, the better?

Answer
Nope! The higher megapixel count does not mean better image quality. However, that's what marketing tries to promote as a good feature upgrade in the newer cameras on the market. It's easy to say higher is better, because often you don't need to prove it... people just unconsciously believe a larger number means automatic improvement.

If you ask a regular consumer to choose between two identically featured cameras and the only difference between them are 8mp and 10mp, most people would take the 10 megapixel camera. And what's their justification? I believe most would say that they get better image quality, or the more informed consumer will say they get more megapixels for cropping. You know which camera I would chose; yup the 8mp camera! Here's why:

1) generally lower noise in low lighting conditions
2) roughly equal image quality, if not better than the 10mp camera.
3) likely cheaper price
4) smaller image files, hence you fit more images on one memory card
5) likely quicker operation writing/reading to or from memory card because less data needs to be transferred
6) likely quicker overall camera speed, because reduced time to transfer data means quicker turn around in between shots
7) 4x6, 5x7, 8x10 prints made with an 8mp camera is virtually indistinguishable from those made with a 10mp camera

For all these reason, it would be really senseless to go for a camera that is only two megapixels more. Go for the lower megapixel camera in general.

What kind of camera should I get?

Jen

I'm in the market for a camera but I'm unsure which one to get. I want it to be a good brand. I don't want to spend more than $150 on it. I want to have a lot of features too. What would you suggest?

Answer
What gives a camera its picture quality?
It is mostly the skill of the photographer that produces high quality pictures. The lens and camera are very important, but the ability to set the scene, adjust the cameras settings, and hold the camera very still or use a tripod with auto or remote shutter actuation when required is what gets the great pictures. Mega pixel resolution is about potential photo size, not picture quality.

In new cameras, look for a viewfinder (LCD invisible in bright sun), optical image stabilizer, and check battery prices. High mega pixel settings take longer to process and may not be needed unless required for very large pictures. Maximum print size for a 3 mega pixel setting is 8 x 10 inches. Click links below for more details.
http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-path=398&pq-locale=en_US&_requestid=2039 ...
http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/mpmyth.htm ...

The Canon A590IS is a slightly older model that is available everywhere at great sale prices. Think it is a great camera and a best buy. It has auto focus, a viewfinder, optical image stabilization, and uses rechargeable NiMH batteries.
http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/A590IS/A590ISA.HTM ...
http://bountii.com/deal-1523871-canon-powershot-8-0-megapixel.html ...

There are so many cameras out there it is difficult to say which is best. The second source link will be very helpful as it list most of the cameras out there with prices. The following information should help you know what to look for in a camera.

CAUTION Do not overcharge! Batteries can be damaged. Use an automatic two or more hour Energizer Compact smart charger with temperature monitor, trickle charge technology, and safety timer ($9.76) at Walmart. Use pre-charged 2000mAh Duracell ($12.97) or RayOVac ($5.97) batteries (hold charge one year) and a full cycle charge. To preserve battery charge, use the viewfinder.

CAUTION To prevent memory card corruption, keep batteries charged and don't delete. Wait for lights to stop flashing then turn camera off before removing memory. For card readers, double click Safely Remove Hardware. Select, then click Stop and OK.

Lots of great camera tips in this link.
http://www.danscamera.com/Learning/going_digital/#resolution ...

This could be the best slim line camera with a viewfinder and ... It's PINK, but it uses a $49.50 Series G Rechargeable 960mAh lithium-ion battery.

http://www.digitalcamerareview.com/default.asp?newsID=3462&review=sony+cybershot+w150 ...

My camera has 5.2 mega pixel, but I use 3 most of the time because it gives great results, is faster, and takes less memory. Also, it only has a 3 x optical zoom and 7 x digital zoom. I never use the digital zoom because making pictures larger works better on the computer. This is an old camera, but everyone is impressed with the quality pictures it takes ... like magic.

Check with the Geeks in several stores and compare prices. Once you select a camera, read all about it in the owner's manual. You can view owners manuals at this link, but will need to Login. http://www.retrevo.com/s/digital+camera ...

The source links show most of the cameras out there with prices and make digital cameras work better with help on cleaning camera and battery electrical contacts.

I'm looking for a DSLR Camera, but don't know where to start! Help?

Hannah

I've looked all over the internet and have found a few websites that help people with picking out their first Digital SLR Camera. However, I'm still unsure as to what type to get, what type is the best, and what camera has all the features I need.

These are the features I should have/need according to this website: http://www.digital-slr-guide.com/
- Image Stabilization
- Live View LCD
- Color Control
- Compatible with Macro Lenses
- Fast Multi-point autofocus
(These are based on the photographic styles of Portrait, Macro, and Spontaneous)

Now, I obviously know that there isn't a camera out there with every single one of these aspects on them, but I'm sure there's one with at least most of these or the important ones, the matter is just FINDING it.

Which is where I need help! Even with these guidlines, it's still difficult to find what I'm looking for.

Please help an aspiring photographer reach her dreams?
Note: I am not a complete newbie when it comes to photography. Just when buying a new camera since I've never done it before. The current camera I use is borrowed from a neighbor.

Answer
DSLR cameras come in three grades:

entry level (consumer) $550 to $1,000
Semi-professional $1,000 to $3,000
Professional $4,000 to $45,000+ (Body only)

Canon and Nikon put the IS (image stabilization/ VR vibration reduction in Nikon systems) in the lens not the camera body.

Both Canon and Nikon make nice cameras. The best thing to do is visit an actual camera shop (not bestbuy/walmart) and try the different models within your budget to see which feels the best to you. I bought a Canon for its ergonomics/feel/menu and control layout and a fellow photog chose Nikon for the same reason....it is about personal preference. PLUS, a decent camera shop will have the knowledge/experience to answer your questions (I was asking a bestbuy "specialist" some mid-level" camera questions only to be told "Uhhh... I'm sorry, I just transferred from TV's").

The one thing to remember is to budget in extra money to cover an extra battery, memory cards, camera case, a USB memory card reader, and taxes (these can add another $200-$250 to the camera price for an entry level DSLR).

Also, most camera shops offer free beginner camera/photography classes (and free prints) when you buy a camera there.

whats the best DSLR camera?

rachieboo2

I might be coming into $380 this summer. and plus any additional money I can save, I have $40 right now. I have a FujiFilm Finepix S700, and I have had it for about 2 years, this summer. I wanna be a photographer, and want to upgrade. I need a good DSLR, for under $750
I was thinking about:
-Sony Alpha 200
-Nikon D60
-Canon XTi
And kits would be great...

Answer
You can get a lot of dslr for 7+ bills.

They all take a good pic, but it's the little things.

Nikon fanboys won't tell you that the D60 has no AF motor, and you won't be able to use all Nikon lenses. It appears that even the new D5000 has no motor if I read the specs correctly. You'll need to go D90 (looking only at new models) to get the AF motor.

Canon is good, but ditch the Xti. Why? It's old. They have newer better models. Take a close look at Canon's XS, XSi, and it might break your budget, but look at the new T1i.

Sony A200 is good, well reviewed. Its advantage, anti-shake is built in, works no matter what glass you have attached. Also, there's no worry like nikon with AF motors, all the AF lenses work period. All your primes are stable (no Canon or Nikon stable primes) and you can use all Minolta AF lenses, Sony, Zeiss too.

Tamron and Sigma also make everything for Sony mount. Canon and Nikon have anti-shake built into certain lenses only.

The A200 is only sold as a kit, and Walmart has been carrying it for a long time, 499 last time I checked. You might be able to snag a used Sony A700 now and by the summer for sure since new Sony dSLRs are on the way. The A700 is 999 at the Sony store, so used who knows.

There are other issues too. At high ISO, the Canon and Nikon take cleaner pictures. The gap probably starts to get wide by ISO 1600. But if you are not a low light shooter, this might not be an issue. Also, the LCD on the Sony is better.

After looking at those pros and cons, you gotta play with 'em if possible. See how they feel in your hand, and if they are actually easy to use. I shoot with a Sony A700. I've played a bit with Nikon and Canon. I could jump to the Nikon with very little issue. It feels similar and natural. The Canon, not so much, but that's a personal thing.

I see the same comments all the time "go Nikon or Canon" some people can't accept that the Coke and Pespi days are coming to an end. Sony is too big, has too much money, and has been making digital cameras for many more years than Nikon and Canon.

Sony also makes all the sensors in Nikon dSLRs and supplies the LCD screens for the D300, D700, D3 and D3x, and those are the ones that I know of.

Either way, you've got some research to do.

Where can I get the best deal online for a digital SLR camera.?

I want atleast 10.2 megapixels and a large LCD viewfinder. Camera will be used to take pictures of wildlife and scenery in Nevada. Thanks.
BTW: I have a budget of about $700

Answer
The absolute best deals and best selections come from www.adorama.com

For what you want to do with that budget, I wouldn't be so concerned about megapixels (thought there are some options for 10.2 megapixels.) If you were to go with 6 or 8 megapixels (all that any amateur needs) you could spend the rest on a good lens, which is where the REAL image quality comes out. Consumers obsess over megapixels, when they're really not that important. Remember that it is a measurement of area, a square function, so a 10 megapixel image is NOT twice as wide as a 5 megapixel one. A 25 megapixel image would be, though. However, all that you need to make 4x6 prints at 300dpi (standard high-quality prints) you only need 3.2 megapixels. Yeap. So, spend money on good, fast, sharp lenses. Shooting wildlife, you're not going to be able to get that close without spooking the animal, so I would recommend a lens with a length of at least 200mm, preferably 300mm.

Ideally I would spend just a bit more than you want to and get a camera with a faster autofocus and continuous shutter speed, but you can get a Nikon D40x (discontinued) refurbished body from Adorama for $450. It has 10.2 megapixels (like you want) and is a real Nikon, meaning you'll be using some of the best lenses in the world. Or, you could get the regular D40 (6.1mp) outfit and you'll have an extra lens (18-55) for landscapes and people for about the same price.

Then, you could get a plain old Nikon 70-300mm f/4-5.6 lens for only $135. This will do the job, yes, and you'll only spend $585 total, but I will highly recommend the VR version of this lens. The VR will let you take pictures in lower light using faster shutter speeds than normal, since it helps get rid of blur caused by hand shake. Not only that, but this version of the lens uses much higher quality glass and will yield much higher quality images. It does cost $479, though, which will put you at $929, a good bit over budget. However, since you are on a budget, we can compromise with the Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO DG lens. It's not nearly as nice as the Nikon VR ED IF version of this lens, and it doesn't have VR, but it is a lot cheaper at only $170. Buy a good monopod to carry around with you and it will be just as good as VR, just not as portable. When you buy a nice fast SD card (get a 4GB or two; you'll want the space on your trip), you'll be right at or just slightly over your budget.

So, our shopping list is:
Nikon D40x (refurbished) or Nikon D40 kit $450
Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO DG lens $170
4GB fast SD card $60
monopod roughly $50
TOTAL roughly $730

Lenses are the second most important part of your camera, so don't skimp on them, but most the most important part is taking the photographs themselves. Enjoy that and have fun on your trip!

Shops in Tucson AZ? Safe to buy lens online?

Antonio88

Im going to buy a lens for the first time, for my dslr. Its going to be $700 and I was thinking it might not be safe. I have bought things from Amazon but only inexpensive things. Once a coffee mug got lost during the delivery and Amazon agreed to replace it, even though its reports said it had been delivered.

Anyways, anywhere I can buy camera lenses in Tucson? I dont live there, but its the closes city. If I dont find shops I might order it from Best Buy but I would like to find a camera only store that has lots of lenses available for pick up...

Answer
Most people make their camera equipment purchases from either B&H Photo or Adorama. I have been doing business with them since I was 18 now am age 71. No problems. With Amazon although I have had absolutely no problems you are in effect dealing with two companies instead of one.

Taking a portrait help?

Can someone please walk me through the steps to take a good picture of a person, let's say walking in the woods on a sunny day. I try messing with the aperture and F stop settings but I just can't get the picture to look like those stunning pictures I see on the internet.

The camera that I have isn't a DSLR but it's a high end bridge camera. What should my camera settings approximately be? Thank you

Answer
This is a huge topic. Books, hundreds of books, have been written about this. What you are actually asking is for a course in photography. I will try to give you some tips, but it is really only scratching the surface.

First of all, you say "on a sunny day". If you mean IN THE SUN, that is your first huge mistake. That is the absolute worse time to take a portrait. The sun is too harsh a light and casts hard, ugly shadows and is anything but complementary to your subject.

Get OUT of the sun. Get into shade or at least use a scrim, which is a translucent piece of material over the subject to block harsh direct sunlight on the subject. In a shade situation, your white balance is going to give a bluish tint to your photo. Set your camera white balance to SHADE.

You can use a reflector to bounce some sun light onto the face of the subject to act as a fill light source. Also, using flash is very common to aid in putting a kiss of light on the face and some catchlights in the eyes.

Watch the background. Do not allow clutter or trees and such to be distracting. Watch for limbs "growing out of heads" and the like. Do not let the brighter background be blown out. Expose for the background and lock those settings into the camera manually. Then use fill flash and / or reflectors to get light on your subject as needed. Don't have horizons tilted or splitting the frame in half.

If your subject is female, bend most anything that bends! Don't have her standing looking straight into the camera like a mug shot. Bend arms, tilt head, bend hips. Think S curve.

Using a smaller fstop number will help to blur background, but with your camera you are going to be limited on what you can use. Try to not have your subject close to any background elements. Do not let the camera select a high ISO, Keep it at ISO 200 at the max, ISO 100 would be better.

YOU be in control of where the camera focuses. NO allowing the camera to pick where the focus point is. You set up the camera so YOU are using ONE focus point, typically the center point. Place that point on the eye of your subject that is closest to you. Lock in focus with a half press of the shutter button, then recompose the composition and take the photo. Don't have your subject dead center in the photo. Study about composition and create an entire frame that is interesting and dynamic.

DO NOT use the wide angle focal length of your lens. That will cause distortion of the subject and make them look "fat" in the face. Set your lens to at least the 50mm marking, even a more telephoto length will be fine, such at 100mm.

Those are some basics. As I said, you are truly asking a question that goes far beyond what you think requires only a simple answer.

DSLR Camera Question!!?

No D

I am planning on buying a new DSLR camera in a about a year. But I don't know what I should look for in a DSLR camera, since I am new to DSLRs. But I do know that I want it to be at least 11 megapixels and I want to be able to click the shutter very fast and the it will still take photos.(By that I mean like I don't want to be able to click the shutter, wait for the camera to load, but like click it every second and still get the camera to take the photo every second.) PLEASE HELP!!

Answer
Most dSLRs have similar basic features. The only true difference would be megapixel count. Other small features that would set some models apart may or may not be trivial to most users.

When looking for a dSLR camera, limit your search to Canon, Nikon and Pentax. They are the big three in 35mm photography and have been making SLRs for a very long time. Your basic concern then would only be price and brand. Canon basically have lots of lenses at a higher price range. Nikon have lots of lenses with more from other brands like Tamron and Sigma. Pentax have a small lineup of lenses but it makes it up with compatibility with all of the lenses it has ever made (with the oldest screw mounts requiring an adapter).

The talk about lenses is inevitable since your body is not expected to last forever. You expand your gear through lenses and when your body starts to fail, replace it with another one that takes your lens collection. That's why you have to choose your brand wisely from the very beginning.

About shutter speed, it doesn't mean that if you have a dSLR, you can click away as rapidly as you want and still get fabulous shots. This is the common mistake people assume. The dSLR, like all other cameras (film or point-and-shoot) depend on light. Without sufficient lighting, picture quality goes down. It all depends on how the user perceives available light and how he adapts to it with the camera. It takes a balance of shutter and aperture settings related to sensor sensitivity and amount of light to make a proper exposure. Most cameras, even the sub $100 point-and-shooters have the capability to take satisfactory pictures as long as you know what you are doing and give it enough light.

which cannon or nikon or sony DSLR camera is best for beginners?

love_god_1

im a photographer wannbe. im new to it. which cameras do you recommend? which brand is better for beginners? what points do i have to consider? additional infos might be helpful too. thanks so much in advance and goodluck.

Answer
Canon, Nikon, Pentax and Sony all make quality cameras....

Which one is best for you...? Really, only you can decide that...you are the one that is going to be using it.

I wouldn't recommend ever buying any camera without 'handling' it first...some cameras don't 'feel' that great when you hold them...and some are more awkward than others to 'navigate' their 'Menu' system and you might not be comfortable with the layout of the basic controls.

If you can't be bothered to read up on the different cameras and specifications on them, then visit a local camera store and talk it over with a sales assistant. You will be in a much better place after having a few cameras demonstrated and 'handling' them.

How good are the Sony brand DSLR cameras?

Photo Nut

I am looking for my first DSLR camera. Someone recommended Sony, because of the price. I am having trouble convincing my husband to shell out the money for the Canon EOS 50D I am wanting. I know it is a little advance for a first timer, but I am up for the challenge. Anyway I was wondering if someone could tell me a little more about the Sony cameras. thanks

Answer
The Sony DSLRs, like all DSLRs, are good cameras that give excellent results. Many argue one brand over others, but the reality is that the DSLRs are flagship products and must be high quality to support future sales for these companies. Specifically, Sony bought the camera business from Konica Minolta to offer these high end cameras and improve the overall quality of all the cameras they sell. Konica Minolta had a long history of producing great quality film cameras and some excellent digital ones. The Sony Alpha series becomes a continuation of that Konica Minolta line.

It's in your best interest to get out to some camera shops and handle the cameras. Ho they feel when you hold them is very important. Where I work, I was tasked with using the company Nikon D60 to take photos during the tour of a new facility. That camera did not fit my hand and my hand actually ended up cramping and hurt by the end. How that camera fit in my hand would be very important in my decision.

Best Camera Choice for my purposes?

I'm pretty interested in film, have made a handful of short films myself, and collaborate with a friend on making feature length films.

I've been out of the game myself because I lack a really good camera. For a long time I was set on the Panasonic HMC150, until recently, when my friend (who owns a JVC ay-HD100) recommended getting a DSLR such as the Canon 7D.

But I'm still not sure what the best option for me is. Dedicated HD camcorder like the hmc150, or a DSLR with exceptional HD video.

I need a 60fps camera, any suggestions?

rodanm2004

I have a Nikon D3100 and a JVC everio HD camcorder. As far as i know they only shoot 30fps, I need a good 60 fps camera, any suggestions? or does anyone have suggestions for making proper slow motion shots with the cameras i have?i tried twixtor but it was confusing and apparently only works with 60fps. please help!.

Answer
I personally suggest DSLR because that's the best of one world and better of the other.

In case of SLRs, If you need a Canon 7D to get Full HD at 60 fps. Or, 60D or Rebel T2i/T3i for 60 fps at HD

Nikon D5100 for 60 fps HD

Twixtor is a good way of getting high fps. But it works on any framerate not only 60p!

And if you are really serious about Full HD videos and don't need photo or have another camera for taking pictures, then Look at the Panasonic TM-900. Canon XA10 or Sony NEX VG10 semi pro camcorders.

DSLR photography camera?

do you know a really good one , thats also inexpensive.

i want it to take clear pictures like this : http://digital-photography-school.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/portrait-framing.jpg

but less than 1,000 dollars.

any suggestions?

Answer
http://www.sony.net/Products/dslr/

Sony's new dSLRs the A230, A330 and A380 are aimed right at you, first time dSLR buyers, check 'em out. They are so new that they might not be stocked in all stores that carry Sony dSLRs yet. They are well under a thousand.

But I have to say that any entry level dSLR can get you great results. But don't expect to leave the camera in auto like a compact digital camera. You need some photography skills. Get some basic knowledge on the web, there are tons and tons of free tutorials that will explain f-stops, ISO, aperture, rule of thirds, lenses etc.

You'll need to put some work in to get the most out of your camera. Also you need to invest in some powerful software. You don't have to spend 600 bucks on full blown photoshop. for about 120 you can get photoshop elements. For 100 bucks you can get paint shop pro.

Good luck.

What is the best dslr camera for 1000 dollars or less?

JetWave

I've been looking into it and so far im leaning towards the Canon rebel 2ti, but they just came out with their eos 60d for 1,100. And as for Nikon cameras i feel that you pay more for less, but that just my opinion.

I have experience with both, i recently have been using an old nikon, which only had around 5 megapixels so i'm looking to upgrade.

I also have some old canon lens from film slr, am i able to use those on a new canon dslr?

Oh, and i'm only talking about body and stock lens, i will add on lens later.

Thanks everybody

Answer
Hey,

Some Nikon models are better, some not. Don't get into stereotypes, they're false and often told by un-experienced people.

You could be able to use those lenses on a Canon DSLR, only if those lenses are EF lenses (says on the front or somewhere).

The 60D is a few hundred dollars more; you get the same image quality because it's almost the same sensor, same ISO performance, same 18 megapixels. Video features are the same. It only has an Articulating Screen and 5.3 vs 3.7fps. Auto focus is the same, 9AF.

I'd get the T2i.

Here's a post called 'Buying a DSLR, what's important, megapixels, features, brand, price, quality and which one to buy - http://www.the-dslr-photographer.com/2009/03/which-dslr-to-buy.html

Here's a review of the T2i: http://www.the-dslr-photographer.com/2010/06/canon-eos-550dt2i-dslr-review.html

Good luck! The site has many more tuorials, tips, reviews and guides!

Need help deciding on a new phone!!!!!?

Q. Ok my choices are the HTC Desire, Droid Pro, and Droid X. I know these are all old phones but its the best my phone company has to offer. Please tell me which is the best phone.
P.S. I'm looking for a phone that is really fast..... Help!!

Answer
Not sure about those phones, but the new iPhone 4S is ahead of any other phone is so many ways.

2 antenna's (Choses best signal in real time for best quality calls)

The battery life is 14 hours talk time on 2G, 8 hours of talk time on 3G and more.

It has 1080p Camera w/ 8 mp camera, also with facetime which is another camera that records in 480p and supports video talking.

It has a duel core A5 chip. The lowest space is 16 GB and the highest is 64 GB (The only phone to reach 64 GB in the world)

The phone has SIRI, it is a artificial intelligence, it can do things such as GPS, call numbers, search the web, write emails, texts, and all by just talking to it. (Does a lot more)

The phone has a lot of haters, but the facts speak otherwise. This phone is ahead of all others, and i wouldn't tell someone to chose any other phone other than this.

You can even find your iPhone from any computer if you lost it (ifind phone app) and you can see on a map where it actual is!

It has many security features if lost. Not many phones have that.

Check this out and see what you think. You should speak with your company about this.

Answer
whoa
i have the red samsung a737
and my brother has the sony ericcson.
i like mine better, maybe its just me.

his phone, when you slide it shut,
it doesnt end the current thing your on you know?
like in mine, when your in the main menu and you slide it down,
its locks it.
the sony one doesnt do that.

sony's speakers are better, mp3 wise.
and bluetooth works fine between the two.
the txting on the samsung t9 is easier.
the setup menu for the sony has more options but the samsung is simplified down.

i had to make a choice between these two phones when my contract ended. and i got the samsung.
i'm happy with it

Best digital camera for a beginner?

Shannon

I want a good camera to take photo and videos with my friends, with. I really like Nikon and Canon but will settle for Fugi Film because of the price. I need something under $500, like a dslr or point and shoot for a beginner. Ideas?

Answer
"Which one is a good camera to buy?" is a VERY common question here on YA.
A quick search would have given you hundreds of instant replies (without having to wait for answers), but once again here is my 10 cents on the subject:

I don't like to give recommendations for particular cameras because there are too many choices and too many variables in what people are looking for. I find it much more useful to help you think this over, then make up your own mind.

Point & Shoot cameras are wonderfully handy because of their small size.
When light conditions are ideal, they even take really nice photos - all of them do.

However, they all DO have limitations - they don't do very well in low light situations (i.e. noisy photos, hard to avoid blur, etc). The little onboard flash is very harsh at close range, and doesn't reach very far.
Many of them have no manual functions, so you are limited to only very basic photos, you can't compensate for unusual situations, or do many fun "tricks" and special effects.
P&S's also suffer from frustrating shutterlag and many of them chew through batteries rather quickly.

If you're ok with all those limitations, then go ahead and pick one, most of them (the same type and same price range) are rather similar. Personally I would pick either a Canon or a Nikon, and would certainly stay away from Kodak and Vivitar.

A higher end P&S will give you more manual options and better quality. Many of those even give you the option of adding a proper flash (which makes a big difference to your flash photos).

Don't worry too much about megapixels - all modern cameras have plenty enough, plus there is a limit to how many pixels you can squash into a tiny P&S sensor before you actually LOSE quality rather than gain it. 6 megapixels is about the upper limit for those little sensors.
Don't worry about digital zoom, in fact, don't EVER use it. It simply crops away pixels, i.e. destroys information. The only real zoom is optical.

Some people ask for a camera that "doesn't take blurry photos". Blur is the photographer's problem, NOT the camera's. Even the most expensive camera will take blurry photos if the person behind it doesn't know what they're doing.

Some words about special effect features such as color accent, or even just b/w or sepia:
About applying any sort of effect in camera: DON'T DO IT !
Imagine if you just happen to take the best photo you ever took - surely you would want to have it in all its glory, right?
Always set your camera to biggest size, best quality (and to color).
That way, you start with the best possible photo as your original.
Then you make a copy and edit it to your heart's content.
You have much better control over any editing on your computer, even something as simple as b&w will look MUCH better when it was processed properly instead of in camera.
You can do all sorts of things to it PLUS you get to keep your original.

Decide which features are important to you, and look for cameras that have that feature.
Then go compare a few models on www.dpreview.com .

The very best thing you can do for your success is to borrow some books and learn about photography. A bit of knowledge will make a much bigger difference to your photos than your choice of P&S camera can.

For what it's worth - if I was in the market for a P&S camera right now, my choice would be a Canon Powershot SX40 HS http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/digital_cameras/powershot_sx40_hs#Specifications

Do any of you guys know of a DSLR that is in that range with good quality,HD 720P OR 1080P, at least 30 fps and can ineterchange lenses ive found some good cameras but there lenses arent detachable. If any of you fellow cinematographers, camera nerds, skaters, or any of you guys know exactly what im looking for please help me out Thank You and Have a good day, night, evening... whenever you're reading this

Answer
Brand new dSLR's start at around $450 this season. At $300, all you can get is secondhand. When buying used, the best is the one that works perfectly. Brand and model take a back seat to camera condition. Test the camera thoroughly before handing over your money. What models to look out for? Just do your research and look for models that do HD video.

If video is the only thing you want to do with your dSLR, you may be better off with a digital camcorder. The camcorder will record longer and focus better especially with fast action shots. The best part is the price. Even at your budget, you can get a simple but decent Sony Handycam that will get HD video at the same quality of dSLR's. That is if you aren't sure why you wanted a dSLR in the first place.
