What kind of video camera should I buy?

My friends and I are planning to make a short film, but we need a camera with great quality and equally great sound. What kind should I buy?

Also, I'm looking for a great SLR camera for no more than $500. Do you suggest I buy the SLR and video camera separately, or get a hybrid camera/video?

Answer
For Camcorder,i recommend Canon FS100 .
Capture video to SDHC cards
48x Advanced Zoom; image stabilizer
Widescreen HR recording
2.7-inch widescreen LCD
USB 2.0 compatible for fast file transfer

The FS100 is one of Canon's first Flash Memory camcorders. In addition to the advantage of added recording time, Flash Memory offers quick response time, because it doesn't have to wait for moving parts. The FS100's lower power consumption rate allows your battery to last longer. Measuring only 2.3" wide, 2.4" high and 4.9" deep, it combines big video storage capacity in a small, easy to carry body. The 2.7" Widescreen LCD on the FS100 lets you see more of what your camcorder is recording. With the FS100 you get a powerful 1.07 Megapixel CCD image sensor. The video you shoot will be sharp, clear and more true to life, as will your still photos. The Genuine Canon 48x Advanced Zoom on the FS100 extends the power of your zoom. In both wide angle and telephoto positions, there is virtually no loss in image quality throughout the range. The Canon DIGIC DV II Image Processor is the next generation of Canon's exclusive DIGIC DV signal processing technology to ensure optimal image quality for still images, even though video and still images have different color requirements.

price: $279.99 + $6.74 shipping

For DSLR,i recommend Nikon D40 .
6.1-megapixel CCD captures enough detail for photo-quality 14 x 19-inch prints
Kit includes 3x 18-55mm f3.5-5.6G ED II AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor lens
2.5-inch LCD with three display options; built-in flash and hot shoe
Fast startup with instant shutter response; shoot at up to 2.5 frames per second
Powered by one rechargeable Li-ion battery EN-EL9 ; stores images on SD memory cards .

price: $409.95

Hi,

I currently use a Canon EOS 400D with a 50mm 1.8 lens on it.

I get good results however sometimes the images aren't as crisp or I can't achieve the depth of feild that I want.

Any tips on improving my portrait photography would be great. Would anyone recommend any kind of technical upgrades as well? DIfferent lenses or bodies? I'm just wondering :)

Looking forward to hearing your suggestions and tips.
Thanks,
Martin

Answer
I'm afraid to say that if you can't get sharp shots with a shallow depth of field on an APS-C DSLR with f1.8 lens then either the equipment is faulty or the user needs some lessons.

How many megapixels an APS-C sensor can take before noise start to be more obvious?

digital896

With all dSLR manufacturers racing against time to cram more megapixels on their APS-C sensors, I wonder will there be a time where dSLR cameras start to be compact cameras with more noise? And what is the ideal MP in an APS-C sensor?

Answer
The answer to your question is that it depends. Canon has 10 MP APS-C sensors in the Rebel XTi (400D) and the 40D camera and both perform very differently as far as noise reduction. The Rebel XTi runs a Canon Digic II processor which is not as advanced as the Digic III processor in the 40D. The processor in the 40 is so good that the images show very little additional noise when compared to images produced by the Canon 5D which has a full size sensor.

So in response to your question, we have hit the point where noise from too many pixels is a potential problem, but the additional power in the new image processing chips are counter acting the issues with the newer sensors.

I'm thinking of getting the ipod touch 4G, however I'm clueless on apple's product release cycle, I don't want to buy it only to have a new version released a few months later, ...I'm hoping an upgraded version would have a better camera, I love the 4G but the .7 megapixel camera almost kills it for me, should I wait or just get the 4G?

Answer
Apple bring out their new product ranges once a year, in September.

What are the details of iPod Touch 4g's camera?

shashank

I was planning to get one and was really wondering about the camera. I know its very bad compared to the iPhone 4 but I'm not comparing to that.
It doesn't have flash right? and details of front camera too please

Answer
The iPod touch 4th Gen has dual cameras -- a roughly 0.7 megapixel rear-facing camera and a VGA quality front camera. You are correct that it lacks a flash.

For more information, including the camera quality in "real-world" use and sample video clips, additional details may be useful to you:

I'm 16, and I want to get into photography. I don't think I want to do it as a profession, but definitely a hobby. To take good pictures of nature, people, events, ect., do I really need an SLR? I really want a Canon Rebel, but I can't afford that. Any reccomendations for under 300$?

Answer
If you can't afford a DSLR, I'd recommend to get a point and shoot that has full manual controls. For example, Canon SX110 IS. It is a 9 megapixel camera with 10x optical zoom and image stabilization. It has Av, Tv and M modes too.

What's the best digital camera to take professional looking pictures, even up-close.?

sunbelly

I have a Kodak z740 and it's great!!! I've found it takes really good pictures if you're perfectly still or get the right amount of lighting, but if the lighting is not just perfect, it will blur a little. I want a camera with alot of megapixels for enlarging and one that doesn't rely so much on the lighting. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks

Answer
Best is a relative term. The best digital camera is the one that best meets your needs that you can afford.

The problems, camera shake and lighting, are problems that effect every photographer whether they using a $10.00 disposible or a $35,000.00 Hasselblad H3D 39. It's not the camera that takes the perfect picture, it's the photographer. If you don't learn how to properly handle the camera you have, you'll only carry the problems you're having with the Z740 to whatever you get next.

The Z740 is a 5mp camera with a 10X optical f/2.8 - 3.7 zoom lens. It's not a bad camera.

Using your flash more or getting a tripod (and I don't mean one of those flimsy things that fold down to eight inches and expand out to six feet but one that is sturdy) will help you in low light or close up situations.

Bracing your camera better will also help. Most people who have point and shoot digital cameras tend to hold them away from their body and frame the picture in the view screen. The further away from your body that you hold the camera, the greater the amount of shake. If you use the viewfinder you can eliminate a lot of camera shake because you're bracing the camera with three points -- your two hands and your forehead.

As far as a camera that "doesn't realy so much on the lighting." There isn't one. Every camera out there, especially digital, relies on light. You can't record an image without light. The key is knowing how to use the light available to you to record an image. If there's not enough existing light, then you need some kind of artifical light, which is your flash. But you need to know your flash's limitations. Basically, at your widest setting you need to be within 2 to 16 feet of your subject. At your longest (telephoto) setting you need to be within 6 to 12 feet. Outside of these ranges your flash won't be fully effective.

Every camera has some limitations. You need to learn how to work with those limitations to get the right exposure. Once you get consistently good results with your Z740, then it's time to move up to a bigger and better model.

Nikon D40 or Canon EOS 450D?

dslr camera 3d model free image

Kajsa Hull

I already own a Nikon D40 and my question is if it's worth the extra money to upgrade to a Canon EOS 450D?

Answer
Are you aware that the Canon 450D has been discontinued as has the Nikon D40?

If you have more than one lens for your D40 then you should upgrade to a newer model Nikon like the D90 or D7000. Switching camera brands can get real expensive real fast if you have to buy all new lenses because all brands use a proprietary lens mount and they aren't compatible.

On the other hand, if all you have is the 18-55mm zoom that came with your D40 then changing brands isn't so expensive.

If you're looking for a DSLR with video capability I suggest considering the Sony SLT A33 which uses Sony's Translucent Mirror Technology (TMT). TMT allows full-time continuous auto focusing whether you're shooting still pictures or video. It also allows shooting at 7fps (frames per second) which can be useful if you're shooting a skateboarder doing tricks. The SLT A33 also has 2D & 3D Sweep panorama. Here are a couple of reviews:

http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/AA33/AA33A.HTM

http://www.alphamountworld.com/reviews/sony-alpha-a33-slt-review-alphamountworld

The SLT A33 has a "big brother" - the SLT A55 - which is more expensive and has a few more features and is being heavily promoted by Sony. This review explains the differences:

http://www.digitalphotographywriter.com/2010/08/sony-a33-vs-a55-whats-difference.html

At B&H - http://www.bhphotovideo.com - the Sony SLT A33 is $699.99 after a $50.00 Instant Savings from B&H. Offer ends 4-2-2011. Free USA shipping. The Sony A55 is $849.99 with free USA shipping.

If the SLT A33 is more than you want to spend then consider the DSLR chosen by the Technical Image Press Association as their 2010 "Best DSLR Entry Level" - the Pentax K-x. It features a CMOS sensor, HD Video, Live View, double/multiple exposure capability. Here is a review:

http://www.shutterbug.net/equipmentreviews/amateur_digital_slrs/0510pentax/index.html

At B&H its $499.00 with free USA shipping.

Both the A33 and K-x have features not found in the Nikon D3000, D3100, D5000 or Canon DSLR cameras - Image Stabilization in the camera body so any lens used becomes an IS lens and a focusing motor in the camera body (you have to upgrade to a Nikon D90 and above to find this feature). Canon started with the focusing motor in the lens.

All Sony DSLRs use the legacy Minolta Maxxum "A" lens mount introduced in 1985. Any Maxxum AF lens can be used on the A33 and will auto focus as it should. With the entry-level Nikons - D3000, D3100, D5000 - you must use the more expensive Nikon AF-S lenses if you want auto focus.

All Pentax DSLRs use the legacy Pentax "K" lens mount so any "K" mount lens made since 1975 can be used - with some limitations - on the K-x. If the lens is a Pentax AF lens it will auto focus on the K-x as it should.

Although Nikon has excellent backwards lens compatibilty and the AF lenses introduced around 1988 or so can be used on the D40/D60/D3000/D3100/D5000 cameras they won't auto focus since those models don't have a focusing motor in the camera body. The older AF lenses are, not surprisingly, less expensive than the newer AF-S lenses.

Enjoy whatever new camera you decide to buy or just keep the D40 and upgrade your lens selection.

HELP! Canon 1000D or 450D? What should I get?

I'm going to get a new dSLR this week and I just need your advice on what I should get

Canon 1000D or 450D?

Performance and Price-wise. I find it weird that the 1000D is newer but 450D has more advantages. :S

And I kind of think of 1000D as a 425D lol. somewhere between 400D and 450D.

So I just need to know what you think.

And what about Nikon D60!?!? :S
I'm going to need pros and cons too. Possibly even comparisons.

Answer
Get the Canon EOS Rebel XSi instead of the Rebel XS. The XS is the "little brother" of the XSi which means they are both almost the same camera, but the XSi has more to offer than the XS. At the time of this writing, Amazon.com is currently selling the XSi for the same price as the XS! You would be foolish to buy the XS now instead of the XSi, especially on the fact that the XSi was released not long ago in April 2008. In other words, you have two very similar models that were both released in 2008, just four months apart, but yet the XSi has more capabilities and features than the XS and costs the same. The XS is just a trimmed-down version of the XSi.

Here are the notable similarities of the Rebel XSi and the Rebel XS:
* Both have practically the same large single-plate CMOS sensor and the Digic III Image Processor, except the XSi is 12.2MP while the XS is only 10.1MP (megapixels).
* Both have the Canon EOS Integrated Cleaning System.
* Both can be purchased with the same EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Kit Lens. If you buy the XSi camera body only, it's even cheaper than the XS with kit lens.
* Both have Live View Function with their LCD displays.
* Both are compatible with Canon EF and EF-S lenses.
* Both utilize SD and SDHC memory cards.
* Both use the same battery pack (LP-E5) and the same optional battery grip (BG-E5).
* The XS is compatible with most of the Canon EOS camera system accessories that can be used with the XSi.

Now here are the differences between the "newer" Rebel XS and the recently released Rebel XSi:
* The XSi has more megapixels at 12.2MP while the XS is 10.1MP.
* For JPEG, the XSi can continuously shoot at 3.5 fps while the XS can do 3.0 fps. But for RAW, the XSi is a lot better at 3.5 fps while the XS can only do 1.5 fps.
* The LCD monitor of the XSi measures 3.0 inches while the XS has a smaller screen at 2.5 inches.
* The XSi has a 9-point AF system while the XS has only a 7-point.
* The XSi has Spot metering while the XS does not. Both have Evaluative, Partial, and Center-weighted metering, however.
* XSi's RAW is 14-bit while the XS RAW is 12-bit.
* XSi has Highlight Tone Priority while the XS does not.
* The viewfinder of the XSi provides 0.87x magnification while the XS provides 0.81x.
* The XSi can utilize the RC-1 or the RC-5 wireless remote shutter release, but the XS is not compatible with either so you won't be able to use a wireless remote release.
* You cannot buy the XS without the kit lens.

The Canon EOS Rebel XSi clearly is the better choice and if you are buying your very first digital SLR camera, the XSi is a top model for entry-level compared to others currently out on the market.

For Nikon D60 it's a great camera
Pluses:
- light & compact
- ultrasonic sensor cleaner, matched with a airflow control system (keeps the sensor dust free!)
- 420-pixel RGB 3D Color Matrix Metering II (compares against over 30,000 pics stored in database to achieve best exposure, available only with Nikon D or G type lenses)
- pretty good performance from built-in flash
- ISO 3200 available
- ISO 100 available (this is becoming a rarity)
- Active D-Lighting (automatically compensates over or under exposed areas in a high contrast scene)
- LCD screen shuts off when eye is close to viewfinder (saves power)
- very quick startup, you can take a picture as soon as you turn the camera on, even if flash is needed
- SDHC compatible (I use an 8GB card!)

Minuses:
- not so great focusing in poor lighting, only 3 focus points, sometimes wrong objects are focused on
- Auto ISO doesn't always choose the right ISO
- the all "Auto" mode produces slightly oversaturated pictures
- slightly "noisy" from ISO 800 and above, but noise reduction is available
- no built-in auto focus motor, Nikon AF-S/AF-I lenses or third party lenses with built-in focus motor are necessary, unless you like to manually focus

If you're looking the DSLR that can do many wonderful things but don't have a whole lot to spend, this is the camera to get. It may not have as many pixels (who really needs more than 10mp?), nor does it have the large 3" LCD screen like the D300 or D3, but for a fraction of the price, you can take just as good pictures. Point is, rather than spending $1000 more on a D300, you're much better off getting the D60 and spending the $1000 on a nice fast lens.

Answer
To be sure you need to know two things:
the price of the camera in Japan (www.biccamera.com) and the exchange rate between the Yen and your currecly in Malaysia.
Check out those things and then compare to the price you will pay if you were to buy it in Malaysia.

What's a good site to buy used cameras from?

I'm looking for a reliable website where I can purchase a DSLR camera. Also, if you have any tips on which DSLR I should choose (This will be my 1st DSLR), I would definitely appreciate them.
I'll be using it mainly for shots of people and pets.
& I don't want to spend too much, because this is my first DSLR.

Answer
I've heard B and H can be a bit flakey, Just make sure when you buy it, it says USA instead of Japan.

I bought my D300 there and they through in an expo disk. Fast, well packaged.

For buying a camera, its really heard to say. If your going into wedding photography definitely go with Canon.

Good luck :)

Answer
Hi Reghan, and welcome to Yahoo!Answers:

From reading your "debut" Question, it appears you are in the wrong Category. This is Camcorders, not Cameras. The dead giveaway are the two phrases "lenses and flash" & "action shots".

You might re-post over in Cameras (see: http://answers.yahoo.com/dir/index;_ylt=Aqp4oTffSjPxZLgJD6OVgO485XNG;_ylv=3?sid=396545631 ), or just watch this Q&A for a few days and see who else might post an Answer.

Y!A discussions stay open for 4 days, unless you extend that deadline.

You might also use the "Additional Details" link on the Action Bar (mouse-over the Edit menu "pencil icon"), and give us a price range for your budget. There's a wide range of models in the "professional" DSLR category.

How to convert 50 FPS to 24 FPS without going into slow motion?

Andrew

Hi! I have access a very nice DSLR camera (Panasonic HDC-HS700). However, it only shoots in 50 FPS or 60 FPS. While this would usually be great, in this circumstance I would like to shoot in 24 or 30 FPS. The camera itself can't shoot in those frame rates. Is there any way to convert the video, without going into slow motion footage? Thanks so much.
Thanks so much for all the feedback! I have access to Final Cut Express, and potentially Final Cut Pro. Thank you, again.

Answer
Hi Andrew, and welcome to Yahoo!Answers:

Two of my fellow Y!A Contributors already chimed-in, but unfortunately "Mmm J" either overlooked that you =did= list your camera (Panny HDS-HS700), or he meant to say "too bad we don't know which editing software". Perhaps he was thrown-off by your calling the HS700 a "DSLR" (it's not!), and M.J. thought another camera was involved.

And Dave ("Palladini") is a bit off-base, depending on what software you have. (True, based only on your "headline text" converting 50fps to 24fps is a weird conversion choice. What you'll actually want to do is shoot in 60fps and output at 30fps.) In Europe & the UK, film transfers and film-look projects are actually done at 25fps, to keep everything "even" compared to their normal 50Hz systems.

Since you are borrowing equipment, the whole frame-rate thing is probably new to you, as far as edit workflow.

You'll set your edit software "project settings" to import & edit in 60fps (the HS700 gives you 60p and 60i options). Everything will run & play at normal speed. It's only when you do your "output render" (for DVD or upload file) that you'll have the software convert the frame rate. That's when the automatic "discard every other frame" will occur.

And Dave probably forgot that good edit software can automatically accomplish the reverse of what's called "3:2 pulldown" (or virtual telecine) for final output at 24fps from higher frame-rates.

Feel free to tell us what software you have or can access for editing your project. Some edit packages don't "play well" with AVCHD footage.

hope this helps,
--Dennis C.

Is it worth getting the Canon Digital Rebel T1i over the XSi?

dslr camera slider image

Allie

I'm looking into getting my first DSLR, and I'm trying to decide whether or not its worth paying the extra $100 or so for the T1i. I'm on an extremely low budget here, but I do want a camera that will last me a while.

Answer
The XSi is canon 450D while the T1I is canon 500D. They are the same digital rebel line, but the T1I is the newer model. As far as upgrades in the product line goes, going from XSi to T1i was one of the bigger jumps (the t1i just inherited the sensor from the midlevel canon 50D)

- The VGA lcd screen is a huge improvement.
- Video is the first ever on an entry line DSLR. (video on dslr is different from camcorders in that its less convenient but you can do video that is very professional looking)
- Higher ISO, this is extremely important, with the T1i you can take photos without flash in a dark movie theatre (12800 iso) while XSi only has 1600
- Creative Auto Mode, this is nice for total beginners so you don't have to use aperture and shutter speed, instead u move a slider for background blur or sharp in a more understandable way. (of course useless for people who are more advanced)

So personally I would recommend getting the t1i over the XSi if the price difference is within about $100

What is the difference between a SD memory card and a XD memory card?

Q. Which is better?

Answer
Some cameras (most, actually) take the SD format (Secure Digital) and a few (Olympus and Fuji), take the xD format. Older cameras and some dSLRs take the compact flash format. They are not compatible or interchangeable and neither has advantages over the other. You have to have the format that your camera takes. The SD cards do have a slider that allows the card to be "protected" from accidental erasure, so that, I guess, could be considered an advantage. The xD cards are smaller, another advantage perhaps. The SD cards are certainly more commonly used, though both are widely available.

What is the best DSLR Camera for a just starting out photographer?

Sportygirl

So I'm looking into getting a DSLR camera, I have done quite a bit of photography but just with the normal digital cameras. I'm supposed to be taking some SR pictures and some sports type pictures. I've always wanted to get a DSLR camera but just haven't had the money. What are the best kinds for people looking to take more pro pictures, but I don't wanna pay a ton of money! Thanks :)

Answer
The Nikon D3100 and the Rebel T3 are two good choices. For now, just get an 18-55 kit lens. But before buying a 600-whatver dollar camera, go to your local library and read some of the basic photography books they have.

Is it worth buying an Ipod touch 4th generation?

Emily

For christmas this year I am getting an Ipod touch the 4th generation because I can not afford and am not on the same network as the Iphone. Is it worth it? I think it would be really cool to take pictures and buy the apps. What are the cameras like? Does it work well with the app hipstomatic? If you could answer any of my questions I would be very grateful. Thank you! :)

Answer
I think that it is very much so worth buying the 4th generation. Although the 3rd gen have dramatically gone down in price, the fourth gen just leaves the third gen in the dust! There is an improved screen resoultion in the 4g and it is amzingly clear. Not only is facetime a great feature, but the front facing camera has the same number of megapixels as the iPhone 4 (5 megapixels) but the back is of lesser quality (1 megapixel). But this is still a great buy! Also all apps are great on the iPod touch 4 as it has been given the iPhone 4's A4 chip to improve gameplay and the turning the iPod touch to make things move in gameplay has improved. Basically Apple have made another iPhone 4 without the phone and fixed almsot all issues from iPod touch

is the ipod touch 5th generation really worth it?

chris c

Currently i'm saving money to buy a new ipod touch, but i'm not sure if the 5th generation is worth it because of the price jump. Or should i get the 4th generation instead?

Answer
Here are the new characteristics of the Ipod 5:

Better pictures (5 megapixels)
Now has a flash on the camera
HD videos
Comes only in 32 or 64 GB
Has a safety loop for safety
7 times FASTER!!!
Lighter (7.8 grams)
Thinner (6 mm)
4'' retina display

That's why you should get the Ipod 5!!

Hope that helps!!!

Can portable solar charger charges the DSLR camera battery? especially need for trekking.?

Kabin

how much Amp is needed to charge DSLR battery?? i am planning to buy Revolve xeMilo or xeMini series portable solar charger (http://www.revolveusa.com/index.php?p=1_17_xe-series) .

Any device with an input power requirement of 5V DC and 1.2A (1,200mA) or less is compatible with ÏeMini. Any device with an input power requirement of 5V DC and 2A (2,000mA) or less is compatible with ÏeMilo. so can they charge DSLR camera (normally 7.4V battery of most DSLR cameras). if not, can you suggest other portable solar charger mainly for trekking purpose.

Answer
Yes, you can charge a dSLR from a portable solar system. But, no, you cannot do it from a USB system (without being very slow & inefficient about it). Electricity is much like water... going from 5V USB up to 7.4V is like pushing water up hill, and that requires a pump (complexity you don't need). Plus, these little revolve batteries will not be generating anywhere near enough power to support a dSLR battery under normal use.

The solution is to match a 12V solar panel to the demand for power your camera have. For example, most dSLR cameras have a battery capacity (in terms of recharging it) of approx 16 Watt-hours. If you told me that you would drain the camera battery in 2 days under normal use, I would tell you to top it up every day and the power needed would be 8 Watt-hours each day (ie half).
To offset a demand of 8 Watt-hours per day, I would suggest that the smallest of the 12V panels would do the trick. 4 Watts would be enough, but most manufacturers start at a 5W size...
http://www.modernoutpost.com/shop/solar-panels/224-powerfilm-folding-5.html
http://www.modernoutpost.com/shop/solar-panels/237-sunlinq-65.html

To compare, the Revolve xeMilo only produces 1.2 Watts.
If you have any other devices to charge, then 5 Watts will come in handy.

Next, you need to store the solar power in a battery pack that can support a charger for your camera battery. Something small like the Novuscell 24 is a good match for a 5W panel...
http://www.modernoutpost.com/shop/battery-packs/251-novuscell-24.html

Lastly, choose a 12V DC charger for your camera battery. DO NOT attempt to use the charger that came with your camera, as this is an AC model designed for home use... seek a DC model that can be used from your car or from a 12V solar kit. I strongly recommend a universal model like the Ansmann Vario as it can adapt to just about any camera model you will have now or in the future, plus will handle the smaller camera & phone batteries, GPS batteries, AA & AAA batteries, etc...
http://www.modernoutpost.com/shop/battery-chargers/267-digicharger-vario.html

That's about it. A system to properly support your dSLR camera.

Now, having said all that, I have a small universal charger that will in fact charge 7.4V batteries from a 5V USB source. It is slow, but it works...
http://www.modernoutpost.com/shop/battery-chargers/268-3-way-universal-charger.html
Note that small solar charger/battery packs like the Revolve only have the solar power to charge approx 20% of your camera battery on an ongoing daily basis (summertime with good sky exposure all day). The storage capacity of the xeMilo Revolve can support one full charge of your camera, but then it is dead, and will take approx 5 days to fill again (you can use it daily of course, but you can only take out what the sun has put in).

I hope this helps!

Least Expensive DSLR Digital Camera to use indoors action shots?

Charlie

I am looking to purchase a camera that can take action shoots indoors, mostly basketball and volleyball. My current digital cameras do a poor job. What least expensive DSLR digital camera that you would recommend?

Answer
It depends on your budget for the camera.

If you are looking at keeping your investment under 900 US$ (including the lens) you may want to consider the Sony Alpha 55 it uses all lenses from the Sony alpha and Minolta , is smaller than the normal DSLR and can go up to 10 fps, ideal for action and sports. The other cameras that even come close to this burst speed can cost 7.500 - 10.000 US$.

The Sony alpha 55 features Anti-shake technology, Good low-light shooting, Fast shutter speed, Sequential shots/bracketing, Movie mode w/ sound, HD movies w/ sound, also features 16.2MP, Translucent Mirror Technologyâ¢, Quick AF Full HD Movie, GPS tagging, Live View with Phase detection, 10 fps, 15-point auto focus, and the kit version comes with a 18-55mm zoom lens included.

Combines the easy to use and advance functions of a compact, with the outstanding quality of a DSLR.

Q. I haven't used my camera in a while, and when i opened it up, it was all grainy. It didnt have that smooth picture look.

Is their anyway i can restore the camera so the grainy look can be clear again?

Answer
Dont bother updating or messing with it, most laptops come with 1.3 megapixel or 2.0 megapixel camera's, regardless its going to be choppy and grainy.

Get something like this,
Its one of the most watched items on ebay by the way:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320360550876&rvr_id=

Why bother putting yourself through all of that, besides you can use an external camera on a different computer when you upgrade.

What is a good # of mega pixels?
Zoom?
Brand?
Reasonable price to pay?
Fairly easy to use?
Thanks for suggestions!

Answer
GE has just come out with an awesome camera. 8 megapixels 5 time optical zoom and many other interesting features. What i would suggest trying first though, is stand further away from the jewelry and zoom in, it might not be able to focus if you are getting to close to it. But if that doesn't work i would definately suggest this GE. Radio shack Carries it. If you have a hard time finding it just go to radio shack and give them this SKU: 16-560.
good luck!

Hey everyone! So in April of 2012, I'm going to Greece and Italy. I really want to get a nice camera, because of course I'll be taking tons of pictures. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should buy? I would prefer something lightweight, so I can just put it in my purse, and whip it out whenever I want to take a picture. Also I want it to be super high def, so I can try to take home the beauty with me. I'm doing this so far ahead so if it's expensive, I'll have time to save. Any and all help is appreciated! Thank you!

What are the pros and cons of the new iPad and Macbook Pro?

megapixel camera on macbook image
Q. I have some money saved up and I'm considering buying an iPad. I'm also throwing around the idea of a macbook pro. Can someone give me a comparison of the two? I'd also like to know the pros and cons of the iPad and Macbook Pro. I would prefer a list if possible. Thanks in advance :D
Can you use iMessage on the new iPad without having a cellular data plan for it?

Answer
Pros of ipad 3:
1. Sleek new screen, incredibly refined and mature.
2. A large app and media store, and a 5-megapixel rear camera for 3D photos.
3. The third-generation iPad will feature a Retina Display that offers double the resolution and four times as many pixels as the iPad 2 and users will be able to use the iPad without actually touching the iPad. Basically, wherever you look on the iPad screen, the camera will recognize through the use of constant retina scanning.
4. Heavy application loads 6 seconds faster than iPad 2.

Cons of ipad 3:
1. More heavier than the iPad 2.
2. Bigger battery means increased recharge time.
3. The new iPad gets warm.
4. apps and movies utilize more space.
5. Although the iSight camera has improved. The front-facing âFacetimeâ camera remains VGA which is not good for video chatting.

I want to create a high quality film and I need tips on what video cameras to get?

Q. I also want to take high quality photographs, they can be one camera or two separate ones (one for filming the other for taking pictures). I just really need tips on what to get. I want to make short movies in very high definition on YouTube for a project I'm doing. Thank you!
My budget would probably be around $300 or less. I really want to make urban style type of videos.

What I need more right now is a video camera.

Answer
Hi Janet:

Cameras & camcorders range from under-$50 USD to many-thousands, and Y!A users range from 13-year old teens to well-seasoned retirees, so you need to give us a bit more information about how much you have to spend.

And your subject matter & visual approach for your YouTube project can influence the equipment selection greatly.

So rather than a bunch of "blue sky" model recommendations, I'll stick with the general "tips" you are asking for.

1) Set a budget of what you can afford to spend. Photography has traditionally been an expensive hobby (especially in the "film only" days). Video is cheaper than the old "home movies", but you still "get what you pay for" as far as quality.

2) You seem to be interested in both "filming" and "taking pictures", so don't get wrapped-up in the "Megapixels" hype, which is fairly meaningless for video once you get above 2.07MP (multiply 1080 by 1920 pixels, for HD, and you'll see what I mean). Higher megapixels only affects photo blowups, and still won't do you any good if your lens is cheaply made.

3) Don't get a camcorder or DSLR that shoots video your computer can't edit! HD video takes a lot of computing power, tons of RAM, large & fast hard drive storage, and high-end video cards. Match the edit software to the "codec" the video is made with.

4) Buy the best video tripod you can afford. Tripods don't get obsolete, and a jerky low-end pan head will frustrate you more than any other piece of gear. Still-cameras can pretty much sit still on top of any cheap mount, but a moving camera shot takes smooth, precision-tooled mounting & control.

5) Sound & microphones are more important than you may realize. People will watch a grainy YouTube video with good sound, but too-soft, echo-ey or distorted sound on the best-looking video will drive viewers away. Make sure you have an external mike input on at least one (if not all) of your camera heads. This is also vital for music videos.

6) Learn about "3 point lighting", and if you plan to make still-photo portraits, then study portraiture techniques. Good video (and photos) require good lighting, and more is better to prevent grainy poorly-detailed video footage.

7) As far as lensing, if you are on a low-end budget, look for Optical Zoom (not Digital Zoom, which is worthless). Some cheap cameras, like the Flip, and some not-so-cheap cameras like the GoPro Hero series have a fixed lens with no optical zoom. Digital zoom is added to many of these (which is just pixel-cropping) to make them seem "better".

8) Another lens-related feature is O.I.S. (for Optical Image Stabilization), which helps prevent shaky video & stills when your lens is zoomed-in or hand-held. Some cameras handle this better than others (and some call this feature by different names).

9) My final recommendation, as far as YouTube projects, is to not let a lack of budget or equipment stop your creative efforts. Two of the most-watched (and now, well-paid) YouTube stars are Jenna Mourey ("JennaMarbles") and Hanna Hart ("My Drunk Kitchen"), both of whom shot & edited almost all their famous videos with the iSight webcam on their MacBook laptops.

Feel free to post an "Additional Details" update to your Question to give us a price range, and we can recommend specific models or feature lists you can afford.

hope this helps,
--Dennis C.

What kind of DSLR camera is suitable for a beginner photographer?

dslr camera weight
on Nikon D5000 - Digital SLR camera - for only 334.59
dslr camera weight image

Eric

Should I go for a new camera or a used one?

Also, what can't a beginner's DSLR camera do? (Eg compared to a camera for an experience pro photographer)?

Thanks!

Answer
DSLR's on the market offer about the same fetures across the board. the difference between a $400 canon 1000d, anon 500D and let's say a 7d is very fine tuned.

The 1000d is the beginner camera from canon. it will allow you to swap out the lenses, utilize manual aperture value, time value, and program modes. also it has a limited selection of automatice modes.

Other more important features such as shutter control, color schemes, and iso options are more limited on this camera.

And example of the iso ratings. the canon 1000d goes up to 1600 I belive, and from what I've seen ISO800 and 1600 on this camera are really unusable. the 500D has the ability to go up to 12,800 and is mostly usable to 6,400 due to it's integraded iso reduction ability, something the lower end models don't have. what does this mean to you? well night shots or low light indoor photography will be more detailed, shprer and have less noise than the cheaper model.

Another thing to look at is the megapixel resolution. The 1000d and most other nikon beginner models, have about 10MP for their picture quality. while the 500d has a 15.1mp sensor. and the 7d has an 18mp counter. this shouldn't come as a suprise, the more you pay, the better your picture quality becomes.

The included kit lens for the 1000d opposed to the 500d as opposed to the 7d are all representitive of the build quality of the camera. the 1000d and 500d both have a basic 18-55mm lens, but the 500d's lens has a better feal to it than the 1000d. the zoom ring is slightly smoother and the auto focus is considerably faster.

The 7d has a very nice 28-135mm zoom lens. it has some features found on more expensive lenses, like a non moving lens focusing ring, and zoom ring. the zoom is even more fine tuned than the other kit lenses and more of the lense is made of metal as opposed to the plastic found on the other kit lenses.

Now comes the issue of video. both the 500d and 7d have hd video recording. the 7d records 1080p at 30fps while the 500d does it in 20fps. the 1000d does not have any video recording at all.

And finally there's build construction. you would expect a $400 camera not to be as well built as an $800 or $1600 camera and you'd be right. the 1000d is cheap and plasticy. the 500d is about the same weight but has a little more solid feal. the 7d is considerably heavier and is ruberized nearly all around it. plus more expensive cameras like the 7d are weather sealed meaning mositure will not permiate the camera if it's raining. you don't find that on the cheaper models.

There are many many more differences between all the dslr types, but it all comes down to how much you are willing to pay for your camera. I would suggest not buying a cheap intro dslr from either canon or nikon, instead look at the more expensive cameras like the 500d or 50d from canon or the d5000 from nikon, whichever one can meat your price point, that would be the one that can work for you now, and the one you can grow with later.

Hope this helps

What is the best camera for high quality film?

LOTSOFQs

I am looking for a camera for under $2000 that can shoot video in 1080p. Whether it be a DSLR camera, or a professional camera, what is the best camera for the best price. IF it is a DSLR camera, quality of pictures does not matter to me, because I looking for something lighter weight than a shoulder camera. Thanks so much in advance!

Answer
Don't think any of the major companies make film, or video tape, cameras now. The best all round cameras, especially for High Definition, with the fanciest features are JVC. You can take time lapse and high speed filming, as well as basic speed and still photos.

Does the megapixel of a digital camera affect the video quality it can take?

Tom M

My buddy says that the higher the megapixel a digital camera has, the better quality video it takes. I was not sure how true that statement was. Can anybody clear this up for me?

Answer
No its totally different.

To keep it simple.

Digital still cameras were designed to take still pictures, or still photography. Here they use the term Megapixels for the capability(number of sensor elements) of the camera to capture data of an image taken. The bigger or higher megapixels, the better or higher amount of data recorded.

This doesn't mean that the image is good right away. It just means that your digital still camera is capable of capturing such and such amount of data. There are several factors that contribute to a "good quality image"; lens is a big factor.

Now having said that, the manufacturers of these still cameras decided to thrown in a little feature called video recording with optional audio for some.

You have to remember that the first digital cameras, Sony Mavica were based on video technology. They were actually considered digital video cameras that shot still images and stored them in floppy disks.

Now even though having internal organs capable of recording videos, our digital still cameras were designed to record still images.

The factors that would ensure quality video images are the sizes and the number of CCD's (Charged Coupled Device usually 3, thus the term 3CCD) and The bigger the CCD that is used, the better the color and image quality of the video. The bigger the hole in your wallet would be. The lens is also a big factor. For digital, its also compression; avi., mov. and now MPeg4.

With respect to the manufacturers of our digital cameras, the quality of the video that they capture is quite good. Many of the point and shoots have better video quality than our old video 8 or hi-8 cameras.

a 1GB SD card will hold about 14 mins of TV quality video.

I hope this helps Bud.
