Stylish camera case??? Looking for a good quality, low priced case. Help please?

neenie

Well, the fifteenth birthday is coming up and I was looking at some camera cases for my Canon Rebel Xsi and one or two of its lenses and possibly a flash. As I do tend to take my camera to lots of places; i.e. photo club, parks, zoos, school events, a lightweight shoulder bag would seem ideal.I am really not looking to spend more that a hundred dollars, and would like it to be at least somewhat stylish and or colorful. I don't want to seem lazy, but maybe you could say what you have or point me in the right direction, because I haven't had much luck in finding anything besides the typical lowepro or tamrac.

I was thinking about the Crumpler 5 million dollar bag or the Acme Made Bowler Bag, but any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a million!

Answer
I've been searching desperately for a camera bag that's attractive, affordable, and functional, and the Crumpler 5 Million Dollar Bag and the Acme Bowler Bag are the two that I've narrowed it down to as well. There is a huge market for better-looking camera bags that don't scream "Mug me, I have expensive equipment!" or "Look, I'm carrying an ugly bag with a camera in it!"

I've heard amazing things about the Crumpler, and borrowed a friend's for a day. It was everything I would have hoped, so I can definitely recommend that. I didn't have much gear with me though, just my D80 body and my 70-300mm lens. I could also fit my cigarettes, wallet, and iPod though, which is always useful. The bag was nice and comfortable, if a bit unattractive, but it was nice and sturdy.

The Acme Made bag is much cuter and less expensive though, and could also double as a regular purse. I haven't seen it in person, but I'm concerned that it might be a bit small. I've seen photos where it is comfortably holding a DSLR body with lens attached, and extra lens, and it looks like there is room for a flash unit or another small accessory. However, there doesn't appear to be room for much else. On the other hand, this bag seems like it's super easy to open, even easier than the Crumpler, which is a selling point for me since I've missed shots while trying to drag my camera out of its bag.

If you have any stores around that stock either bag I'd recommend going to check them out. Also, if you choose the Acme Made bag, let me know if it's too small! :p Good luck with your choice, and happy approaching fifteenth birthday.

What is the best bag to carry my camera and stuff in Italy w/o worrying about theft or damage?

britt

I have a Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ18 (DSLR size) camera. I will be going to Rome for a week and am concerned about having my camera stolen or damaged while I'm there. I want a backpack sort of way of carrying it but I would like for it to be secure so I'm not mugged and the straps can't be slashed. Any tips or ideas for a camera bag would be wonderful.
I would also like to be able to carry stuff like water bottles, snacks and extra batteries.

Answer
I would get something that doesn't look like a camera bag something that I can wear across my body - not just over 1 shoulder. I would definitely NOT recommend a bum bag - I have seen them pickpocked heaps more than anything else.
The black bag I am wearing in the last photo on this page
http://hubpages.com/_yah/hub/Managing-your-Travel-Money
will carry a SLR sized camera & probably a smallish guidebook - I would sling the spare batteries, water, banana in another bag over my shoulder as a decoy BTW the grubby and older the bag looks the better! Also don't forget not to leave your camera lying around i.e. not attached to your person in hostels and restaraunts - the worst place is probably sitting at roadside cafes or bars. Get the camera insured, download the photos every few days to a another card or a DVD or a laptop. The camera is replaceable the photos aren't

Why do camcorders have excellent optical zoom (40ish) but digital cameras do not (20ish)?

Adrian

Just wondering why Camcorders can zoom in farther than digital cameras...

Answer
Reason is because camcorders' sensor is far smaller than digital camera. The smaller the sensor the easier it is to design superzoom lens.

Compact caemra with 20ish-x zoom has sensor size of 1/2.33", while those higher end compact cameras with 5x zoom has 1/1.7".

Camcorder normally have 1/3" sensor to even 1/6" sensor. Very small.

Same goes to DSLR lens, with a much much larger sensor, a 3x zoom lens would be as big as a beer mug.

So it's all about the size.

help with picking first dslr?

I currently have a nikon coolpix l110 - it is good but excellent for macro.
My dad has a canon rebel xsi I really like his.

*I already know how to handle a camera- I am just looking for a higher quality.

I plan on using this new dslr for events , portraits , landscapes & macro.
full hd is one thing it must have.

also besides what camera you recommend what lens do you recommend?
full hd video is what I meant * sorry

Answer
Since you are familiar with your dad's camera, how mug experience do you have with photography? Do you know what iso, f stops, etc mean? If not, get the Canon T3. If so, get the canon T2i

The T3 is one of, if not, the most popular entry level dslr. It has a 12.2 mp sensor, and full hd video capabilities. It has everything a beginner could possibly want.

The T2i is a great choice if you already know most of the basics because it allows for much better image quality with an 18mp camera. Either are great choices!

Are Vivitar tripods any good for serious photographers? + What other gifts are ideal for photographers?

Answer
Most photographic equipment is personal preference.

If you want a tripod for a small $100 P&S (point & shoot) camera, then Vivitar/ Sunpak/ Weng Dong (or other chinese sounding name) would be okay. For a SLR or DSLR camera, then get a trusted brand...Manfrotto/Bogen,Vanguard, Slik, Gitzo, etc

As far as other ideas...
1) Gift cards to a local camera shop (not bestbuy/walmart)
2) Gift card to B&H Photo... http://www.bhphotovideo.com/find/giftCard.jsp
3) A camera lens coffee mug... http://www.canonmugs.com/

DSLR camera for teen?

Anna

Hi
I'm a 13 (14 in October) years old girl. I really want a DSLR camera that I can use to take pictures for my blog. I already have a Olympus Pen E-pl1 but I think it's to small and I would like something more professional. My dad has a Canon eos 50d that I borrow sometimes but I would really like my own, when I can afford it. I am definitely a canon girl and I am serious about photography (meaning it's something I love and would possible like to do in the future). Can anyone think of a good canon camera for me? I was thinking about the Canon eos 600d but I'm not sure.

+ I would like a camera that can film!

Thanks, Anna

Answer
Me and my friend are 15 and she has a 600d, personally its a little to big for me even through it is one of the smallest DSLR's you can get. I dont feel confident walking around with her camera, i feel like someone will mug me. ( if you get me) But i have a sony nex and its just as powerful but it looks more stylish (personal opinion) the SLRS look more manly. But i know some people prefer the big DSLR look. The 600d would be perfect for you i think my friend really likes her camera :)
