Answer
Just found this one: http://www.amazon.com/A53Z-EH61-15-6-Inch-Versatile-Entertainment-Laptop/dp/tech-data/B005UUSIRW/ref=de_a_smtd
Well worth the $450 for Asus. Supposed to have a CAM, Altec Lansing speakers, gigabit ethernet, HDMI, and lots of features, but detailed specs of this particular model not available. I found similar at Tigerdirect Canada for $630 with 8GB Ram instead of 4.
The only brands that actually design and build are Asus and MSI. Lenovo Thinkpad has a lot of internal design. All other brands, are just brands and it is what they choose from the companies that actually design and builds (like MSI, Asus, Compal, Wistron, HonHai-Foxconn, etc) and testing and serviceability.
Here is a PC World annual survey:

Macs are incredibly expensive though when considering what you get for CPU+Graphics and other features for the price paid. They are usually double or more in price for the same features.
For color, you can buy a laptop skin that is vinyl and can be replaced. You can even custom design your own. For camera, though most have them, look at the megapixels for the clarity of image. HDMI for TV out is sometimes nice for either an external monitor or hooking up to a TV sometimes.
You should start with how much you want to pay. Cheaper in general gets less features and slower speeds, and of course no gaming or intense processing.
HP and Dell are rated poorly in the last few years. Acer is very variable. Lenovo is average. Those are the top 4 brands. Sometimes a Toshiba is good, and sometimes you can get a good sale price on an Asus or Samsung.
Will browse a few sources and edit this with an example or two.
$450 plus tax:

Sony VAIO VPCEL17FX/B Notebook PC - AMD Dual-Core E-350 1.60GHz, 4GB DDR3, 500GB HDD, Blu-Ray Player, 15.5" Display, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, Black
Brand good, but CPU very slow and graphics matching other cheap laptops. Otherwise very nicely featured with gigabit ethernet, HDMI, bluray player (but not DVD burner).
$430 after rebate plus tax:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=19198&CatId=4938
HP ProBook 4530s XU015UT Notebook PC - Intel Core i3-2310M 2.10GHz, 4GB DDR3, 320GB HDD, DVDRW, 15.6" Display, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Brand weak, but good CPU and RAM, relatively small HDD, decent features.
$400 Bundle including $368 laptop:

Toshiba Black 15.6" Satellite C655-S5512 Laptop PC with Intel Pentium B960 Processor and Windows 7 H. Good brand but slow processor and only 10/100 ethernet
$419 in blue or purple: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Hewlett-Packard-15.6-500-GB-g6-1c44wm/17353244
basic system. There are a few others at Walmart.
Nice $400 Toshiba offer expires tomorrow:

Last entry: I like this one best at $450:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834246302
lenovo IdeaPad Z575 (129929U) Notebook AMD A-Series A6-3400M(1.4GHz) 15.6" 4GB Memory DDR3 1333 500GB HDD 5400rpm DVD±R/RW AMD Radeon HD 6520G
Decent CPU+Graphics. Though ethernet is only 10/100 instead of gigabit, it has good features

I am looking for a good laptop, and I decided on the Dell XPS M1350. I already asked this, but no one answered except one person. So can anyone comment about this from past experience? Oh yeah, and I tried the trial customization and it got up to 1500$ from 899$. Help please.
