What does it mean if a memory card is too slow to take a video on a camera?

10 megapixel camera video
on Camera 12.2 MP Price and Canon EOS 1100d Digital Camera 12.2 MP ...

I'm trying to record a video on my camera but it'll only take about 10 seconds of video then a message pops up saying "Recording movie is not available. Memory card is too slow" or something along those lines. Its a Samsung camera, 10 megapixels and takes HD video. I have other photos and stuff but it says I can still take 20 more minutes of video.

Answer
basically what it means is that the card cannot write data as fast as the camera can create it

it's like taking notes in school. Some professors (cameras) talk very fast and the you (the memory card) have to take notes. If you are too slow, you will have to stop the professor (the recording stops) to catch up, and then continue (clearing memory buffer).

for full HD video, you need a class 10 SDHC card
for HD video (720p), you will want at least a class 6 optimized for video. Class 10 would be best.

Is there a camera that can video in HD and take excellent photos?

I would like to buy a camera (similar to a DSLR) with around 10 megapixels and has about 10X optical zoom and videos about 1080p 30fps. Any ideas? I've not found a dslr that autofocus' DURING videoing (unless I'm missing one?)

Answer
If you are really on a budget and want the best quality for the money, check out the P&S Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 [with a Leica lense] which has more features than most pro DSLRs that require auxiliary lenses not even equal to the single initial full-range lense that comes with the FZ28. It is reviewed at:

It just came out on November 4, 2008.

It's an all-in-one 10.1 megapixel digital camera which includes (i) built-in image stabilization; (ii) HD720 quality video [Quicktime] which permits zooming while videoing skateboarding, action sports; (iii) a 18x zoom [27 - 486 mm (35mm equiv.)] "Leica" lense for nature and concert photography; (iv) up to 0.39 inch macro option; (v) up to 6400 ASA; (vi) takes up to 380 pictures per 120 min. battery charge; (vii) has a "burst speed" of 13 fps; and sells new for $270 at amazon.com. in the U.S.

Here's an actual handheld picture of the moon:

Good luck!
