I'm looking into buying a new camera. I would like to know how many gigs of memory I need in an SD card.

Cards are pretty inexpensive.
Buy a handful of 4 gb cards.
If you are saving your images as high resolution JPEG's, you should get over 300 on each card.
If you are shooting in RAW + JPEG Basic, you can get 100 or so shots per card.
If you are a disciplined shooter, 100 shots per shooting session is plenty.
Remember to copy all your images to your computer at the end of each shooting day and once they are safely on your computer, format your card(s) using the format feature on your camera
