Ipod touch 4g horrible camera?

Ricardo Da

so i've waited for the ipod touch 4g and it's finaly announced, but everyone on the internet says that camera is horrible for taking pictures.. ''a 0.7 megapixel low-quality camera'' is that really true?

Answer
Yes, it's true. The 5MP stills camera from the iPhone 4 is too big and expensive to put into the iPod touch (which is crazy thin), so it only has a video camera - it can take still images but it uses the video sensor to do it, so the quality's comparatively low. Should be fine just for taking photos for Facebook purposes or whatever.

Ipod touch 4g camera-how much megapixels?

pratyush

Answer
From Apple's site:
Video recording, HD (720p) up to 30 frames per second with audio; still photos (960 x 720) with back camera, VGA-quality photos and video up to 30 frames per second with the front camera

What is a camera similar to Nikon Coolpix L110? It has to be around the same price range, and I would prefer it to look like a shrunken slr. >.<

Answer
There are many alternatives to the L110. Most of them are newer models with better specs that surprisingly cost a lot less than the L110. All of the ones I mention below look like mini-slrs.

Nikon COOLPIX L120
http://amzn.to/Nikon-COOLPIX-L120-14MP-Digital-Camera
It has a higher megapixel rating than the L110 (14.1 MP) with a more powerful 21x optical zoom lens vs. the 15x lens of the L110. Also includes a vibration reduction (VR) system like the l110. This is about the same price as the L110 but only slightly cheaper by $10.

Fujifilm FinePix S2950
http://amzn.to/Fujifilm-FinePix-S2950-14MP-Digital-Camera
This one is about $100 cheaper than the Coolpix L110 and yet it has a higher megapixel rating (14 MP) and a higher zoom lens (18x). Like the L110 it also has blink-detection and can record HD movies (720p). It's the 14th best selling P&S digital camera on Amazon, with 4.5/5 stars.

Fujifilm FinePix S3200
http://amzn.to/Fujifilm-FinePix-S3200-14MP-DigCamera
The S3200 is more expensive than the S2950 but is still a lot cheaper than the L110 (about $70 cheaper). It has all of the features of the S2950 but has a more powerful 24x super wide optical zoom lens. This model is also rated very highly by customers, earning 4.5/5 stars.

Fijifilm FinePix S4000
http://amzn.to/Fijifilm-FinePix-S4000-30x-DCamera
For $25 cheaper than the L110, you can get the S4000 with a 30x zoom lens (that's double that magnification power of the L11O!). Like the other FinePix cameras, it's 14 MP, has a panoramic mode to take very wide pictures, and allows you to tag photos/movies that you upload to Facebook and YouTube.

GE PowerPro X500-BK
http://amzn.to/yGqmuE
If you want to choose from yet another brand, this camera is 16 MP with a 15x zoom lens. Unlike the other cameras, it doesn't film movies in HD. Sells for about $140. It's not rated as high as the FijiFilm cameras, but still gets a respectable score (4/5 stars).

Best point and shoot camera?

Casey May

i have to admit im horrible at taking photos, i must have the most shaky hand ever but lets look past that even though i know a good photo is about the photographer not the camera ( please no lectures ) heres a list of "must haves"

nice true to life colours that are nice and vibrant

under $300 please

I am looking for a bag that holds school stuff and a Camera DSLR at the same time?

Jordan

What i mean with this is that i have my camera in the bag, and at the same time i can put all of my books and binders, with the camera nice and safe.
Is there such a thing?
if yes where can i look for it and how much would it cost?

Answer
You'd need a large backpack designed to hold both a camera and a laptop, and even then it might not work. Most of the space in such a backpack is designed to hold cameras and lenses and flashes and the like, not books and binders.

If all you carry is the SLR and lens, without all the accessories and spares and other pieces, get a holster style bag for the camera, and put it in a more "normal" backpack with your books and binders and stuff.

Looking for a good Camera & Laptop bag?

Jason B

Hi all. I'm in the market for a solid bag for my Canon DSLR XTi camera along with a couple of lenses. I'd also like one that can hold 15.4" laptop if possible as well as have room for up to 3-4 lenses or so for future additions. I'm still an amateur photographer by most means, but really enjoy photography and would like something good to keep my equipment in. A tripod holder would be a great added feature. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Jason

Answer
Take your laptop to a camera store and try out the bags. There are different sizes so consider how many lenses and other equipment you need to carry. Its a bag so don't worry which brand to get. If it is well padded and has space for what you want to carry it will be fine.

Phones With High MP Cameras - 5mp +?

Cosmo88

hey
im looking for a new phone and camera and i figured i should just get a phone with a large mp camera in it but i have no idea whats on the market. if anyone has any ideas or own a good one it would be great to hear about it and maybe get a small review

are the cameras on phones any good?

is there some amazing phone going to be released in the near future i should wait for?

thanks

Answer
I think if you're going to want to get a camera, get a camera--not with a cell phone with a built-in camera. Gadget that are designed to do everything are at best mediocre.

But if you realize the quality and limitations of what it can do, I do think it's very convenient to have it with you at all time, rather than carrying a larger camera.

Which At&t go phone best fits this description?

Aimee

I want to upgrade my cell phone. I currently have a very basic flip go phone with no camera and no app's. I would love to get a phone that has unlimited talk, text, and web but that also has at least 5 mp or higher, and plenty of room for music downloads. I don't mind paying the additional money for minutes to buy the songs but would prefer an app that let's me download them for free. If any at&t go phone fits this criteria, please let me know.

Answer
There are a few prepaid android phones available, most have memory card slots, and some of them have a 5 mp camera, like this one:

http://www.att.com/shop/wireless/devices/samsung/galaxy-express-titan-gray-prepaidold.html#fbid=tyUsNjRzKhl

As for talk, text, and data, that's the service not the phone. AT&T doesn't have an unlimited data smartphone plan (they do have one for feature phones and messaging phones), the most is 2 GB, although you can use wifi. I don't know what you mean about downloading music (there are apps on android that let you buy and download music. If you do it over wifi, you don't need to use any data).

Does Verizon offer a camera phone with a resolution higher then 1.3 megapixels?

healthstud

Overseas they offer phones with 7 megapixels! What's the deal, why don't we have these phones?
What bothers me is that it's not that we're behind. That problem doesn't exist, because The United States doesn't manufacture any cell phones. ALL of our phones are from over-seas. They choose what to release for our carriers to sell. It's ridiculous.

Answer
When I last checked, Verizon Wireless carries only one phone w/ a camera w/ higher res than 1.3 Mpxl, and that's the Samsung a990 (3.0 Mpxl). It's pricey, even w/ rebates and New Every Two applied.

I think that most US consumers are still trying to figure out that their cellphone can make phone calls and do txt msgs. Only a few people care about what you talk about. Besides, a lot of people already have digital cameras that support high res, so the market for cameraphones w/ such high res, and the technology to support it, is still a ways off in the US.

It still comes down to the carriers making money off the largest group of people, while enticing the bleeding edge types w/ high-tech stuff. The bleeding edge crowd will have to wait, but probably not for long.

Verizon phones?

Hopefully

Ok, I get to get a new upgrade for my phone, yay! And I can get any phone I want cause our plan allows it, but Im really confused at which phones I want. I love to text and I really love music, but Im not sure I want music on my phone, but I still want the option. I also want one that you can record your own ringtones. Can anyone give me some good suggestions? Oh, and I have to choose a phone carried by Verizon. I would really appreciate it, thanx! : )

Stylish camera case??? Looking for a good quality, low priced case. Help please?

neenie

Well, the fifteenth birthday is coming up and I was looking at some camera cases for my Canon Rebel Xsi and one or two of its lenses and possibly a flash. As I do tend to take my camera to lots of places; i.e. photo club, parks, zoos, school events, a lightweight shoulder bag would seem ideal.I am really not looking to spend more that a hundred dollars, and would like it to be at least somewhat stylish and or colorful. I don't want to seem lazy, but maybe you could say what you have or point me in the right direction, because I haven't had much luck in finding anything besides the typical lowepro or tamrac.

I was thinking about the Crumpler 5 million dollar bag or the Acme Made Bowler Bag, but any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a million!

Answer
I've been searching desperately for a camera bag that's attractive, affordable, and functional, and the Crumpler 5 Million Dollar Bag and the Acme Bowler Bag are the two that I've narrowed it down to as well. There is a huge market for better-looking camera bags that don't scream "Mug me, I have expensive equipment!" or "Look, I'm carrying an ugly bag with a camera in it!"

I've heard amazing things about the Crumpler, and borrowed a friend's for a day. It was everything I would have hoped, so I can definitely recommend that. I didn't have much gear with me though, just my D80 body and my 70-300mm lens. I could also fit my cigarettes, wallet, and iPod though, which is always useful. The bag was nice and comfortable, if a bit unattractive, but it was nice and sturdy.

The Acme Made bag is much cuter and less expensive though, and could also double as a regular purse. I haven't seen it in person, but I'm concerned that it might be a bit small. I've seen photos where it is comfortably holding a DSLR body with lens attached, and extra lens, and it looks like there is room for a flash unit or another small accessory. However, there doesn't appear to be room for much else. On the other hand, this bag seems like it's super easy to open, even easier than the Crumpler, which is a selling point for me since I've missed shots while trying to drag my camera out of its bag.

If you have any stores around that stock either bag I'd recommend going to check them out. Also, if you choose the Acme Made bag, let me know if it's too small! :p Good luck with your choice, and happy approaching fifteenth birthday.

What is the best bag to carry my camera and stuff in Italy w/o worrying about theft or damage?

britt

I have a Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ18 (DSLR size) camera. I will be going to Rome for a week and am concerned about having my camera stolen or damaged while I'm there. I want a backpack sort of way of carrying it but I would like for it to be secure so I'm not mugged and the straps can't be slashed. Any tips or ideas for a camera bag would be wonderful.
I would also like to be able to carry stuff like water bottles, snacks and extra batteries.

Answer
I would get something that doesn't look like a camera bag something that I can wear across my body - not just over 1 shoulder. I would definitely NOT recommend a bum bag - I have seen them pickpocked heaps more than anything else.
The black bag I am wearing in the last photo on this page
http://hubpages.com/_yah/hub/Managing-your-Travel-Money
will carry a SLR sized camera & probably a smallish guidebook - I would sling the spare batteries, water, banana in another bag over my shoulder as a decoy BTW the grubby and older the bag looks the better! Also don't forget not to leave your camera lying around i.e. not attached to your person in hostels and restaraunts - the worst place is probably sitting at roadside cafes or bars. Get the camera insured, download the photos every few days to a another card or a DVD or a laptop. The camera is replaceable the photos aren't

How many megapixels does an analog 35mm stil camera film have? I'd say only one megapixel.?

Somebody w

what dpi, dots per inch resolution does the film have?

Answer
That is an apples to oranges comparison.

It would depend on the film/film speed, print size, and type of digital camera (sensor density) being compared. Film does not have DPI, it has lines per millimeter (L/mm).

Depending on the film used, quality/size of the final image, and the math formulas, film could be said to be between 39 and 180+ megapixels. For example, you could drum scan a 35mm negative and enlarge it to cover the side of a barn and not lose detail/tonal quality. Even the best DSLR file, would pixelate at a fraction of that size.

How do I know which megapixel camera to get? A 10 or an 8?

Crystal

I've been reading reviews on some cameras and some people say just b/c a camera megapixel setting is higher doesn't mean you'll get a better picture. Is this true? I notice that some 8 megapixel cameras get really good reviews and are cheaper than the 10 megapixel cameras. The 10 megapixel cameras get really good reviews too, but are more expensive. How do I know what camera to buy?

Answer
Pay no attention to the megapixels. Every modern camera has more than enough for anything you would want to do. In fact to many megapixels on a tiny sensor can be worse.

The biggest determiner of image quality would be the optics (lens). On point and shoot cameras I would go for the one with the most zoom. With an SLR you should get the best lens you can afford.

Next would be the analog to digital converter (the inner workings of the camera). This is how the camera takes what it sees and converts it to a digital image.

Next would be the sensor size. Point and shoot cameras have tiny sensors. SLR's have much larger sensors. As much as 15 times larger. This is why a 6mp DSLR will take a far superior photo than a 12mp point and shoot.

Finally would be the amount of mega pixels. While technically speaking the more mp the larger and more detailed you can blow up a picture. The problem comes in the size of the pixels not in how many there are. Tiny pixels generate more heat on the sensor. More heat equals more noise or grainyness to your pictures.

So I would encourage you to look at all the other features of the camera. The one that has the features you want is the camera you should get.

Best DSLR camera bag?

Kacey

I need a camera bag that doesn't look like the kind a 60 year old man would carry around to take pictures of his hike or something. it doesn't have to be a camera bag, but i want to be able to carry around my dslr everywhere! i was thinking maybe a cross over bag? but i don't know! all help appreciated!

Answer
I use a backpack. It can hold two dSLR's four lenses all my accessories (24 memory cards, remote shutter release, Xrite Colorchecker Passport, earplugs, lens tissue, notepad, pens, business cards, etc)

When traveling, it can also hold my notebook computer, mouse, 1 tb external drive and power cords

What I like about it is that it does not say, "I have cameras in here, steal me"

DSLR camera outdoors?

ilovefood6

I am an avid photographer and outdoor enthusiast. Backpacking and kayaking are my two favorite activties and I want to be able to take great pictures on my trips. The only thing is that I am worried about how to safely pack my DSLR camera for these trips. Are there any small cases that I could pack? Or any other suggestions?

Answer
Check out pelican cases for when you are kayaking. They make waterproof cases that float if they fall out of the boat that are designed specifically for your purpose. They make loads of different styles, sizes, and colors. I would recommend something like bright orange, so it is easily spotted if it falls out of the boat.

For hiking, I would recommend either a modular belt pouch setup or a shoulder bag instead of a backpack for a couple of reasons. First, if it is a multi day hike, you probably want to keep things like clothes, bedroll, and tent in or on your backpack. The second reason is that if your camera is in your backpack, it isn't accessible. If you see something you want to shoot, you have to stop, take off your backpack, open your backpack, get your camera out, and then shoot. With a shoulder bag or a belt based system, you just grab your camera and shoot. For shoulder bags, I like domke bags, and for belt systems, i like think tank.

Good luck!

Cell phone camera megapixels?

TyG88

I'm shopping phones and a couple say they have a 1.3 or 1.4 megapixel camera and another say it has a 2.0 megapixel. Which is the better quality camera?

Answer
Technically 2.0 is more superior but it also depends on the brand of the cell phone like SonyEricsson always have a good image processor on their mobile phones.

Another thing you need to know is they are only good for amateur photos, they won't create any professional quality pictures. If you want a camera then you shop for a camera instead but if you shop for camera phone then look for a higher number of megapixels.

Which cell phone on the market has the highest camera resolution for pictures and videos?

Answer
Samsung reinforces its technology leadership by launching the world's first 10 megapixel mobile phone (model: SCH-B600) in Korean market.

Samsung reached another milestone in camera phones by launching 10 megapixel camera phone, which was unveiled at CeBIT in March this year. Samsung has been the first to introduce mobile phone with embedded camera in 2000. Samsung has also launched the world's first 5 megapixel camera phone in October 2004 ; the world's first 7 megapixel camera phone in July 2005.

Samsung's 10 megapixel camera phone (SCH-B600) is 6mm thinner and 10g lighter than the 7 megapixel camera phone (SCH-V770) and sets itself apart from its previous megapixel camera phones by combining mobile TV capability in Satellite standard.

The B600 offers the same level of picture-taking sophistication that a 10 megapixel digital camera offers. The camera function includes 3x optical zoom and 5x digital zoom. It also has auto focus and a flash unit that performs optimally for 10 megapixel photographs.

Also, the B600 comes fitted with a LED autofocus feature which assists users to capture clear, crisp photos even in dark settings. Located next to the lens, the LED autofocus automatically determines the distance and utilizes the appropriate focus setting for optimal photo shooting.

The B600 also supports white balance, manual focus, continuous picture-taking, and interval picture-taking functions.

It also supports Bluetooth which enables users to send pictures wirelessly to other mobile phones, printers or to Bluetooth headsets.

The high color Reproduction TFT-LCD produces the highest possible display for its size. The photo-fine chromic LCD can reproduce 16 million colors, virtually any color found in nature, earning it the "True Color" appellation. Moving pictures can be recorded in QVGA resolution at 15-30 frames per second. Users can watch live TV in crisp picture through Satellite DMB function.

It also supports external memory (MMCmicro) in addition to its internal memory. The mobile phone supports a TV-out function where users can connect their phones to view still or motion pictures.

The B600 comes with a design reminiscent of a real digital camera. The front is designed as a bar-type mobile phone, while the back side is used as the digital camera.

Other advanced functions in the B600 include an MP3 player, business card reader, and 128 polyphonic sounds.

The price of B600 is around 900,000 won (about $ 900) in Korea.

I am looking for a SLR camera on eBay. What should i look for in the description?

eringerran

Some items just say camera body. Would i have to buy extra pieces for those or does that mean the same thing as just a camera?

Answer
My best advise to you is to not buy a used SLR on eBay. The scammers are many and the bargains are few. Instead go to your local camera shop. They will have a good selection of used cameras and gear that they have taken in on trade.

Since digital is sweeping the market, used film gear has gone way down in value. I purchased a used Canon at my camera shop at a price I couldn't pass up. I would never have been able to afford the camera as new, but as used it was a huge bargain. And my camera store stands behind it, if it breaks down for up to 6 months.

Which DSLR camera should I buy? - 3 Choices?

Joe

I'm looking to purchase my first DSLR and have narrowed it down to three specific cameras. I'm mostly interested in taking photographs in the following categories - macro, animal, architecture, panoramic, scenic, and travel - so I want to make sure I select a camera that has good choices when it comes to lenses. I'll also be shooting subjects that are in the distance - birds, mountain ranges, waterfalls, etc. Which one of these three cameras do you believe would be best for all my needs. (p.s. I'm most interested in macro)?

Nikon D40x

Conon EOS 1000D/Digital Rebel XS

Olympus E-510

COMMENTS FROM LAST POST:
Additional Details
Thanks for all the all the reviews and recommendations. All three seem to be good cameras - here's my take on all the comments I've received:

Nikon D40x (not to be confused with the D40) - Some people swear by this camera as an overall very good starting DSLR. Others think it is a joke. This was actually my first choice when I started looking for a DSLR.
The Good: Very good image quality, great comfort
The Bad: Difficult menu, no live view, motor on lenses instead of on the camera makes life difficult and the selection of lenses slim.

Olympus E510 - Olympus seems to be well liked by many pros while others completely disregard it as a choice. I'm wondering if people do not give the Olympus it's due because it is not as much of a brand in comparison to Nikon and Canon.
The Good: Best lenses
The Bad: Not sure about the 4:3 aspect ratio, smaller, less reliable sensor, poor in low light conditions.

Canon XS - Everyone seems to be happy with the Canon.

This is a great camera, and don't let anyone tell you it's only for beginners. The images that the D60 produces easily rival that of more expensive cameras. When you spend less money on the D60, you are sacrificing a few bells & whistles but not necessarily image quality.

It has all the manual settings you'd expect in an SLR and a very easy-to-navigate (and nice-looking) menu system. The LCD screen is big and bright, and the viewfinder is great as well.

What it's missing (at least when compared to higher end models) and why you don't necessarily need those things:

- No auto-focus on non-AF-S/AF-I lenses. Unless you already have a bunch of old Nikon lenses, this shouldn't be a problem. Just make sure any lens you buy in the future is an AF-S or AF-I.

- No Live View. This is only just becoming standard on higher end cameras and on the ones I have tried I have found it very "clunky" anyway. "Live View" is a hallmark of compact point & shoot cameras, and I think that's where it belongs... at least for now. SLRs are just made for shooting with the viewfinder. It just feels better on a camera like this. If you *need* Live View, look at the Sony SLRs. They seem to implement that feature best.

- Only 3 auto focus points. The D80 has 11, the Canon XSi has 9, blah, blah, blah. Three is enough for most people... heck, one is enough for most people. Yes, having more is nice, but honestly if you are a beginner and don't understand what the benefit of more AF points might even be, you don't need them.

- No exposure bracketing. A helpful feature for making HDR images, but even then it is not necessary.

Those are the biggies. I have my own little nit picks, like:

- No dedicated buttons for ISO or white balance (you can program the Fn button to do it, but it's nice to have a seperate button).

- RAW+JPEG setting only allows you to record a "basic" quality JPEG.

- The ViewNX software supplied with the camera sucks for processing RAW images. If you are going to shoot RAW, get something better like Nikon's CaptureNX, Adobe Camera Raw for Photoshop or Lightroom, or something similar. If those aren't in your budget, RAW Therapee is a great open source RAW processing application. It's light years better than ViewNX in this regard, and it is 100% free of charge!

Now for the major perks:

- The D60 inherits features like Active D-Lighting and Expeed processing from the (much more expensive) D3 and D300 pro SLRs, which the D40 and D40x do not have. Look those things up to see what the benefits are. D-Lighting is subtle, but effective.

- The new kit lens with VR (vibration reduction, Nikon's term for image stabilization) which allows for sharp pictures in lower light conditions when using slower shutter speeds. The D40/D40x have a non-VR version of the same lens. In my opinion, this is the best "kit" lens when compared to what the competition is currently offering (in terms of overall image quality).

- Auto focus assist lamp. Trust me, it's a simple little thing but you'll love having it.

- FAST auto focus (even with those three piddly AF points =)

- Big, bright LCD and viewfinder.

- Superb build quality. Feels much more "pro" in your hand than it's plastic-y competitors.

- Great high ISO performance. Perfectly usable shots at ISO 1600. ISO 3200 is worse, but you could still use it in a pinch and get decent results and small prints. I've printed a couple 8x10s from ISO 1600 shots that look fantastic.

- Which brings me to the most important feature: stellar image quality. Go find sample images online and see for yourself. Forget those chart & graph test shots. Look for real-world samples of real people/things -- that's where you'll really be able to see the D60 shine!

I love my D60. I have been shooting with it every day since I bought it a month ago and have no regrets. It truly is a great camera to learn on for the SLR beginner, but is just as good for those of us with a little experience who are on a budget and don't see the above "cons" as deal breakers. Just buy the thing and go make some beautiful photos!

What is your opinion on the Olympus E-420 DSLR Camera with 14-42mm lens?

ssammiee

I'm thinking of buying my first SLR camera, and I'm pretty much a novice at photography. It's really just a hobby of mine alongside my music and public speaking.

This is what I have an idea of liking:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Olympus-E-420-DSLR-Camera-14-42mm/dp/B0015IOB0Q/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1240860104&sr=1-16

I'd like a simple, small camera for carrying around with me. My budget is £300.00.

I currently have a JVC Everio GZ-MG330R camcorder, which I use for photography at the moment, but the picture quality isn't great, and I use it for short film creations.

This is it:

If you have any other suggestions, then feel free.
Spam will be reported. :)

Have a lovely day.

Answer
The Olympus is the smallest and lightest of the DSLR's. So if your looking for small it is your best choice. It is not much bigger that many bridge cameras.

The downsides of the Olympus is that it has the smallest sensor of all the DSLR's. It is still much bigger than any point and shoot but it is a good amount smaller than other DSLR's. The other downside is that the Olympus uses a 4:3 aspect ratio rather than the standard 3:2 of 35mm film and all other DSLR's. This means that like a point and shoot all 4x6 prints need to be cropped. The 3:2 aspect ratio matches perfectly with a 4x6 print so there is no cropping. There are also not as many lenses available for the Olympus as there are from Nikon and Canon.

If you are looking for a small lightweight camera it is a great choice but in my opinion anyways you are trading size and weight for a less flexible system.

What is a dslr camera?

Turn my sw

I have no knowledge of photography. So what is it?
What do the lenses have to do with it?
What makes a better quality photo?
What are sensors?
What is auto focus?
What is optical view finder?
What is lens mounts?
What else do I need to know about a dslr?

Answer
SLR stands for single lens reflex, which is basically how the camera functions. Some of the older film cameras you see in movies, on teleevision- are SLRs. A dSLR is simply a digital SLR camera. In general, your photographs will have much better quality than with basic or mid-level point and shoot cameras, and even then, only very few advanced point and shoot cameras can match the output of a dSLR.

Lenses are what it's all about. Ever heard of swapping lenses on a $100 point-and-shoot? No. Because you can't. With a dSLR, you have virtually unlimited zoom- of course depending on the lenses you have.

DSLRs make for better photo quality because they have image sensors which are much better than those of cheaper types, and generally, they will have a larger megapixel count as well.

Sensors are basically digital screens which an image is captured on- an image- in the form of light- will pass through the camera's lens, and is then captured on a sensor.

Auto-focus is a newer feature on cameras that allow you to simply press the shutter-release button half-way, and the camera automatically focuses for you. If you don't have AF, focusing your lens manually can take anywhere from half a second to nearly half a minute.

And optical viewfinder allows you to see EXACTLY what the camera will capture. No more digital screens that are sluggish and misrepresent colors.

Lens mounts are what allow you to attach lenses to your camera. You needn't worry about them, for the most part, unless you're trying to attach a very old lens to a very new camera.

You also need to know that a dSLR is a touch more expensive than a P&S, but the trade-off here is that dSLRs have unsurpassed quality- a workhorse, in comparison to a point-and-shoot. DSLRs are usually quite cumbersome, so if you're looking for something you can put in your purse or your backpack, you may want to stick with a point-and-shoot. Generally, only people serious about photography will purchase a dSLR, as it takes a little getting used to, and a handful of cash.

should i get the vita or the 3ds?

Austin Pip

I LOVE Uncharted little big planet and a whole lot of things on the ps3. But at the same time i love to kick back and play a good mario game as well as lots of other Nintendo games but i'm totally stumped on what i should get. 3ds or vita? Any ideas? And by the way, no fanboy type of stuff, only honest opinions.

Answer
Well I know about the 3DS.

And I can compare the Specs of the Vita & 3DS to each other.

The CPUs

3DS = 512 MHz 100% Effectively

Vita = 7XX (is said)

The GPUs

3DS = 200 MHz

Vita = 266 MHz (is said)

Now let's compare them to the Wii's GPU = 243 MHz

So the Vita gives you 100% HD Wii Graphics on its screen.

And the 3DS gives you 100% 3D HD Wii Graphics on its screen.

They both got 0.3 MegaPixel Cameras

But the 3DS has a stereoscopic 3D Camera to take 3D Pictures & Record 3D Videos.

And here's the 2D Resolution of the 2 systems:

3DS = 800

Vita = 960

And here's what I can tell you because the 3DS has already come out:

You can LOWER the VOLUME of 3D so it does NOT give you headaches for the first time in your life (if you're the kind of person to ever get headaches from 3D, otherwise just turn the 3D all the way up).

And you can also turn the 3D OFF Completely.

And 3D is good for working out your eye muscles & brain to keep them in shape as shown in this link:

http://www.aoa.org/x17309.xml

And the Nintendo 3DS has downloadable 3D music videos from today's American music artist which I have already downloaded the 3 free 3D Music Videos to watch anywhere and the 3DS has 3D "Blue Man Group" video and cheap downloadable 3D Apps & 3D games costing from 99 cents to $5.99 and the Nintendo 3DS also has FREE downloadable 3D Apps & 3D Games, which I have already downloaded 3 Free 3D Apps and I have downloaded 2 Free 3D Games and the 3DS has a 3D Camera and I have already used the 3DS 3D Camera to take 3D photos & 3D Videos and I have uploaded some of my 3D footage online using the Nintendo 3DS's Web Browser to upload my 3D footage online and I have used my 3DS Web Browser to also download other peoples 3D footage from the Internet on my 3DS Web Browser and I have view all sorts of 3D content on 3D Websites online on my 3DS's Web Browser and I have use my 3DS 3D Camera to play 3D Augmented Reality games as well and it's all in 3D without the Glasses using the 3DS 3D Camera and I have beautiful 3D HD graphics that equal to that of a 3D HD version of Wii Graphics and I have Streamed 3D Videos Online on my 3DS in the eShop and I have also Watch 3D Trailers for upcoming 3D movies coming to Theaters in 3D and I have done all of this in 3D Without the Glasses.

So you can pay $169 for a Nintendo 3DS and buy the greatest Games ever & all in 3D Without the Glasses like Cave Story 3D and Kid Icarus and Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 using the MOTION SENSORS to play the game like if you were turning a real wheel to turn the Kart left & right and also play such other 8 GB 3D Games like TheatRhytem Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts 3D and Crush 3D and Shinobi and Animal Crossing and Rodea the Sky Soldier and Michael Jackson: the Experience 3D and Ridge Racer 3D and Super Street Fighter 4 3D and Monster Hunter 4 and Golden Sun 4 and Star Fox 3D and Zelda 3D and Sonic Generations 3D and Tetris 3D and Resident Evil: Revelations and Tekken 3D which also has the 3D Movie Tekken the Movie 3D in it to watch and also play other 8 GB 3D HD games as Spider Man 3D and 100% of the 3DS games are in HD 3D Without the Glasses.

And they're making Angry Birds 3D as a downloadable game.

And the 3DS has DLC (Downloadable Content) like Xbox Live for a bunch of 3DS games to add content to the game cartridge later on.

And 1 of the Free 3D Apps I have downloaded was Netflix.

And Netflix is getting 3D Movies in the next few months, so for $169 you can watch 3D movies on the free Netflix App on the 3DS in 3D Without the Glasses.

And 100% of the people who have said that they get headaches from 3D, have said that after up to 1 to 2 weeks of using the 3DS they NO LONGER get headaches anymore and that they now play with the 3D all the way up 100% all the time, non-stop.

and you can check this Links below for more 3DS & also Vita Games:

What would be better a Nintendo 3DS or an iPad 2?

Chris

I have an ipad and I was thinking about buying the new iPad 2 for my bday present. But then I heard about the nintendo 3ds and it sounds really cool but I don't kno witch one to buy now because both of them are really impressive. So should I stick with the ipad or should I get something new and different like the 3DS? And what would be some good reasons on why to buy the iPad 2 or the 3DS.

Answer
It all depends on what you want. Both devices are different. Here are some of their features, look through them and see which one suits you best:

Nintendo 3DS pro's:

-Can display full 3D without the need for special glasses
-It can take 3D pictures! Buying a camera that does this costs a lot, but you get it built in the 3DS!
-Higher quality games than the iPad has - 3DS games will last you a lot longer than iPad games, and will most probably be more fun
-You can watch movies and TV sports in 3D!
-You can buy and download additional game content and updates from the Nintendo e-shop
-It is smaller and lighter than the iPad 2, so it is more portable
-You can browse the internet, use facebook, youtube etc. just like on your PC
-You can play games online wirelessley
-You can add people to your 'friends list' - then you can see what games they are playing, you can play with them online, and you can send text messages, drawings (which you make with the 3DS touch screen) or pictures to them
-It can play augmented reality games - these games work by you putting a small card on your table. Then, the 3DS will make a game on your table! To see what I mean, click on the link below:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14_EDenxvro - that is a guy playing on his table

Here are some videos of how games look and play on the 3DS:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSvOy_SqNVI
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0J8IX1mmCTk
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2A_1IDwX0Cw

Nintendo 3DS cons:

-Even though it can take 3D pictures, it does so at a rather low resolution of 0.3 megapixels (640x480)
-The 3DS has a much shorter battery life than the iPad 2 (it only has 3-5 hours with the 3D effect on, and 5-8 hours with the 3D effect off)
-The 3DS touch screen is very good, however it isn't as responsive and sensitive as the iPad 2's
-Adding friends to your list can be annoying as you need to exchange 12-digit number codes to do so

iPad 2 pro's:

-It has a bigger screen the the 3DS
-It has a lot of free apps, the 3DS's cost money
-You can use live video chat just like with a webcam on your PC
-It has a longer battery life (it lasts roughly 9-10 hours)
-It is capable of faster web-browsing and internet usage
-It has more built in software
-It comes with a larger 'harddrive' (it comes with 16GB - 64GB, whereas the 3DS has 2GB)

iPad 2 Cons:

-Big games like Grand Theft Auto, Call of Duty, Super Mario and Assassin's Creed are almost never available for the iPad, and when they are it is often a cheaper, less fun version
-The iPad 2 costs a lot more than the 3DS (it costs a minimum of £325, whereas the 3DS can be found for a minimum of £195)
-The iPad 2 takes longer to charge up once the battery has drained
-It cannont take 3D pictures or 3D video like the 3DS, and its picture resolution is also very low (0.7 megapixels)

So really, its down to what you want. If price is an issue, then go for the 3DS as it can be found for up to £125 cheaper. If its not an issue, then look at what they can do. The 3DS will offer amazing 3D without glasses, it is also one of the first machines ever to take real 3D pictures, it allows you to watch 3D movies and sports, and will have better games. However, gaming is the main feature of the 3DS. So, if you don't like to play games, or only play them from time to time, then the 3DS might not be for you. The iPad is less portable, but offers live video chat, a better, larger screen along with more space to store pictures and videos, and faster internet connections.

I hope I've helped, and happy birthday!

DSLR camera with HD video capabilities?

bbyA

For my birthday I'd decided I wanted a DSLR camera with video mode, specifically a Canon Rebel T1i. My birthday rolled around and I did not receive my camera. I was disappointed but upon further research I realized the T1i was actually $849, on sale! I'm not sure how I missed that detail, but I was wondering if there were any other DSLR cameras with 'movie' mode preferably from $500-600. Thank you in advance.

Answer
No DSLR's with movie mode for that price!. I will give you some advice though.. Buy a DSLR for it's photo taking qualities, not video. It may surprise you to learn that video in DSLRs is utterly crap!, that's right.. just plain and simple crap.

That money would be far better spent on a quality semi-pro model, or a higher end entry level. The T1i is just an entry level camera, at a semi-pro price. I personally think the price that Canon are charging for it is disgusting.

The Nikon D90 would be a better buy, you have a much better camera than the T1i and your video mode (albeit it is pretty crap!).

Answer
In new cameras, look for a viewfinder (LCD invisible in bright sun), optical image stabilizer, and check battery prices. High mega pixel settings take longer to process and may not be needed unless required for very large pictures. Maximum print size for a 3 mega pixel setting is 8 x 10 inches. Click links below for more details.

http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/mpmyth.htm ...

The Canon A590IS is a slightly older model that is available everywhere at great sale prices. Think it is a great camera and a best buy. It has auto focus, a viewfinder, optical image stabilization, and uses rechargeable NiMH batteries.
http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/A590IS/A590ISA.HTM ...
http://bountii.com/deal-1523871-canon-powershot-8-0-megapixel.html ...

You may never need expanded wide angle or telephoto capabilities, but the A590 IS is compatible with Canon's accessory lens adapters: A small button next to the lens bezel is actually a latch; press it and you can remove the bezel ring, exposing a bayonet mount for accessory lenses. Canon offers the WC-DC52 0.7x wide-angle lens, the TC-DC52A telephoto lens, the 250D 52mm closeup lens separately, along with the LA-DC52G adapter to mount them on the camera. (Note that the wide, tele, and macro lenses all need the LA-DC52G adapter to mount them to the camera. The lenses won't work by themselves.)

There is no one place to get great buys, but click the second link in the information above then search for your camera of choice at the upper left. Camera prices at this link change often.

What gives a camera its picture quality?
It is mostly the skill of the photographer that produces high quality pictures. The lens and camera are very important, but the ability to set the scene, adjust the cameras settings, and hold the camera very still or use a tripod with auto or remote shutter actuation when required is what gets the great pictures. Megapixel resolution is about potential photo size, not picture quality.

There are so many cameras out there it is difficult to say which is best, but the second source link will be very helpful as it list most of the cameras out there with prices. The following information should help you know what to look for in a camera.

A friend asked me to clean and charge her new 2000mAh Duracell batteries as described in the next link. Those batteries are still going strong after four months of normal use and have not been recharged.

Most NiMH rechargeable batteries lose charge and should be recharged when not used after two weeks, but Duracell and RayOVac new formula 2000mAh NiMH batteries hold charge one year when not used. Also, 2000mAh batteries seem to have a longer life. Did not like these batteries at first, but have 12 over five years old and all are still as good as new. Higher mAh batteries (about one year old) still work well in flashlights, but won't start my camera.

CAUTION Do not overcharge! Batteries can be damaged. Use an automatic two or more hour Energizer Compact smart charger with temperature monitor, trickle charge technology, and safety timer ($9.76) at Walmart. Use pre-charged 2000mAh Duracell ($12.97) or RayOVac ($5.97) batteries (both hold charge one year) and a full cycle charge. To preserve battery charge, use the viewfinder.

My camera has 5.2 mega pixel, but I use 3 most of the time because it gives great results, is faster, and takes less memory. Also, it only has a 3 x optical zoom and 7 x digital zoom. I never use the digital zoom because making pictures larger works better on the computer. This is an old camera, but everyone is impressed with the quality pictures it takes ... like magic.

Is a 8.2 megapixel camera good?

LNR182

I want to take up photography
But I can't afford a whopper amazing camera yet.
This is one I'm looking at just for a starter
http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/catalogId/1500002251/partNumber/5592355.htm

Answer
An 8.2mp camera would provide photos in 3264x2448 format, which my 10mp dSLR considers high quality. And the size of a picture shot at this resolution would be about 2mb in jpg format. The ISO number (1600) is also another plus for this camera, allowing you to shoot better pictures in low light conditions.

Olympus FE-20 8 megapixel camera?

D.Bean

I want to get a digital camera.....i was looking into 10 megapixel cameras but an olympus Fe-20 camera is on sale but it only has 8 megapixels...are 8 megapixel cameras decent? or if you have heard of this camera is it a good one?

Answer
The FE-20 costs less than US$90...so surely you couldn't expect too much greatness from such a budget camera?

I wouldn't recommend you get it. For a start, it suffers terribly from shutter lag. Many Olympus cameras have this problem. This means it's very slow to take a picture (over 1 second). You will find this VERY frustrating when trying to capture anything that's remotely not still. Also, you will find it difficult keeping your camera perfectly still for over 1 second...which will most likely result in many shots being blurred. Many other compact cameras take a picture at around 1/10th of a second when pre focused and around 4/10 of a second or so, when not.

Also, it takes around 5 1/2 minutes from turning on the camera and being able to take the first shot. This is extremely slow. Other cameras are much faster and usually take 2 seconds slightly more...to much less.

Also, it uses xD cards, which honestly are crap. They're slower and more expensive than SD or SDHC cards.

8MP is much more than the average snapper needs, so don't think that by getting a camera with more MP means it will be better. What's most important is the camera brand itself, because all brands are different. Some are excellent, some are good and some are crap...and I would say that most Olympus compact cameras fall into the crap category.

If you care about image quality...get a Canon. Even their budget models (which may have less features and performance than their better models) but at least they still have great image quality.

DSLR camera for beginners?

velvetreds

guys can you recommend any DSLR camera for Beginners. And i would like the price is budget friendly.:)

Answer
A DSLR camera is an investment but it can be well worth it. DSLR cameras have the larger sensor so you get a higher quality images. You can change lenses which can be valuable, by allowing to adjust to different needs.

There are a number of good brands so don't be sold on the idea one brand is better than another. I would keep your costs down. I would get a DSLR with a short zoom (like a 18-55mm) to start. No reason to spend more than $425 to $550. Either a 10MP or 12MP will do just fine.

Below, I listed some links, the first link listed below is to a web page that lists the 3 DSLR cameras I am recommending. This list will let you compare features and specs, also it has links to reviews of the cameras, the reviews include sample images from the cameras. Also I included some links to some dealers so that you can try and get the best price. Some dealers have some nice extras, free shipping is very common, and sometimes they are offering a free memory card and/or camera bag. Sometimes you have to click in the âadd to cartâ button to see the actual price.

Here are some models that I think are well worth researching:

Nikon D3000 10MP DSLR Digital Camera with 18-55mm VR Lens - $449
EOS Rebel XS (1000D) 10MP DSLR Digital Camera Kit w/18-55mm IS Lens - $499
Pentax K-x 12MP DSLR with 18-55mm Zoom (has HD Video also) - $550

Pick a price range, some features you know you want, and even consider which camera feels good in your hand as a factor. Plenty of great cameras, get one you like and start learning the principles of photography and you will be on your way to making some great images.

If you want to stay under $500 then go Nikon or Canon but, I think the Pentax could be of special interest, since it can do HD video and has excellent quality at higher ISO settings which can be useful in low light places and helping get the picture. These features, especially the HD video, on a Nikon or Canon will cost you $100 to $200 more.

If you have any questions and if you think I can be of help then please do contact me.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Is it worth financing a dslr?

Melixx28

read first please :

I am a 17 year old teenager and in my senior year of high school. I work as a sales associate at Old Navy for about 8-16 hours a week. Also I babysit 2-3 times a week making $10 an hour. I would like to see if I could pay a monthly fee for 6 months to pay off my camera. I am an AP Studio Art(photography) and would love to have one of my own. Is it worth a shot?

Answer
DSLR is too much costly so you can buy point and shoot camera which has good quality.

i suggested you a one camera which is really good and affordable to you.

Nikon Coolpix L22 12.1MP Digital Camera which is really nice

* 12.0 megapixels for stunning prints as large as 16 x 20 inches
* 3.6x Zoom-NIKKOR glass lens (37mm to 134mm); bright 3.0-inch LCD
* Easy Auto Mode with Scene Auto Selector;
* capture 640 x 480 movies with sound at 30fps
* 3-way VR Image Stabilization System
* EXPEED Image Processing; Smart Portrait System

Would it even be worth it to save up for a DSLR camera?

Okay

Yes, they're nice, take amazing quality photos, and are becoming more popular nowadays.
But, in a few years don't you think you'll be able to buy that same quality on a phone?

For some one who doesn't have the immediate finances to invest in one, and would have to save up for a year or two, and also is not looking to be a photographer, just a hobbyist, would it really be worth it to save up and buy one?

My phone already has an 8.0 megapixal camera with auto focus, and it's a year old!
In two years from now, just imagine what our phones will be able to do.

Answer
I agree that phone cameras are improving at a massive rate of knots. My wife takes some fantastic photos with her 5 megapixel phone camera when the conditions are good. Here are the areas phone cameras need to address to be be as good as today's DSLR:

No lens protection - lens get scratched and degrades
Tiny sensor - produces high noise in low light
No optical zoom - just digital zoom that pixelates and adds noise
Tiny lens - you cannot grind lenses as small as that to the precision you can with a bigger one
In built LED flash gives a pale blue palour to faces
No ability to add external flash
No ability to afix filters
Fixed aperture lens or at best 2 or 3 settings
Lack of manual exposure control for awkward lighting conditions
Too small to get a really good stable grip needed for sharp photos
No direct viewfinder just a screen that is invisible in bright sunlight

Now just imagine what our DSLRs will be able to do in 2 years - I wonder who will be first to put a phone in a DSLR?

In summary, I think it highly likely that phone cameras will kill off the bottom end point and shoot market, indeed I think it is already happening, but DSLRs will always be way ahead on picture quality and versatility.

Nerol

i know the iphone has a regular 3 mp camera

and i think the Blackberry is working on a 5 mp

but i'm wondering if there is anything now from whatever phone?

i have this cheap little SD HD camcorder (like $79 Bucks) and i can swap out the card and then use the iPhone to upload from the road, but i'd rather have an all in one device

2.0 and 3.0 Megapixel camera phone?

Craig Bowe

Both phones capture pictures and videos. How does a 3.0 video and picture look?

Answer
Pretty bad (most cameras are in the 6-8 Megapixel range). You will be able to tell what is going on but it won't be pretty.

What size memory card is sufficient for a Canon Power Shot S110 camera?

Q. What size memory card is sufficient for a Canon Power Shot S110 camera with 12 megapixels? I'm going on a trip for 2 weeks and I plan to take lots of photos and won't be able to upload them until I get home.

Best answer to whoever can help!

Thanks
The camera is compatible with SD, SDHC, and SDXC, but I'm curious as to how much memory is sufficient, not type.

Answer
That's a very good, advanced compact camera you have there. I own it's predecessor, the S100. If you're not able to transfer your images at the end of each shooting day, I recommend you DON'T buy just one very high capacity card. It's safer to buy two (or more) smaller capacity cards instead. Imagine if you have only the one memory card and on the very last day of your holiday, the card fails...you could easily lose the entire lot.

The chances that your card will fail are very slim, but it can happen. It's never, ever happened to me but it has to others. I recommend you buy a top quality reliable brand (e.g. Sandisk Extreme). You'll want a Class 10 SDHC card for best performance and for recording Full HD video.

According to your User Guide (page 333) you'll be able to shoot plenty of images (approx. 1379 Jpeg images per 8GB) or up to 29 minutes of Full HD video. You can even shoot in RAW, but that brings the total images down to about 446 per 8GB. Some may say to get 2 or 4GB...8GB is often a much better buy. It's your call.

You can buy memory cards anywhere in the world, so you could easily buy another if you had to.

Don't forget...you will NEED to format your brand new card or cards BEFORE using the very first time...via the camera Menu. Read about it in your User Guide (page 267-268). Also make sure you format your current memory card before going away (transfer all files from it before formatting the card).

Remember to give your camera battery a full charge each night or before you start out for the day...because it only lasts about 200 shots (less if using the flash or recording movies).

p.s. something I found...your camera has Wi-Fi capability that allows you to wirelessly send files to your smartphone or tablet (if you have one). You can also send files directly to websites such as Facebook or YouTube. If you're not in range of a Wi-Fi network you can still upload to your tablet or phone using Canon's CameraWindow app. Apparantly (according to DPReview) it works well...
