New camera help?

xxgreendog

I have recently purchased the Kodak V1073 digital camera. It is a 10 megapixel camera and i am very happy with it. In video mode, it takes High-Definition video that is completly stunning. However, when I upload the video onto my computer, since my computer is about 5 years old, it isn't equipped to play such movies. When im playing the video, it stops and starts, and the audio is choppy. Is there a free software or website that could convert High-Definition videos into Standard-Definition? Is there another way that would allow me to play the videos from my camera on my computer other than to decrease the quality of the video on my camera? Thanks!

Answer

I want to take infrared photos with my DSLR?

Yuki

Is there a filter I can get to do it?

Answer
You can get IR filters, but. as they block all the visible spectrum of light shutter times will be long and auto focus won't work.

There is an IR blocking filter on the sensor of most all digital cameras which makes matters worse. You can have this filter (expensively) removed and then the camera will be sensitive to IR and shutter times will be normal, but the camera then becomes useless for normal photography.

The easiest way is to shoot a normal colour image and to make it look like an IR image in Photoshop or similar.

People often mistake a digital camera set up for IR thinking it's a heat sensitive cameras like the ones you see on Police helicopter programs, heat sensitive cameras are a totally different and expensive technology compared to digital cameras.

I don't think I would send up a good DSLR, now that I know about the HeroPro that does video and stills for extreme sports... and costs a fraction of what my Nikon costs.

Sony a300 or Canon 400d, Which and why?

blanko00

I'm looking for a cheap-ish S/H camera, I think these are the two that I can find consistently at my budget. I'll be thinking about lenses after purchase, using a 50mm prime, so kit and availability not really a consideration. I'm thinking the a300, what do you think? I'm quite seduced by flip out live view, which I know I'll use.
You can see my original question where I drone on about the what and why here: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AvstiYP1bVOo6XeLc2iLTNHsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20100808063018AAts22L

Answer
If the A300 fells right in your hand and you like the flip out live view, I would say go for it. I have been shooting with Sony DSLR's for 5 years and have no complaints, I currently have an A-300 and an A-350, with about 15 Minolta lenses, and 4 Tamrons.
If you go Sony, check out the website below it is a Sony / Minolta "A" mount only site and is very imformative and free to join.

DSLR Camera Question?

astrolover

Hi! Okay, so I'm looking into getting a DSLR camera this Summer. Honestly, I am a little clueless, I've just had the point & shoot type. So, what do I need to know? What's a good optical zoom for it, ect...yeah. Thanks!
@Hondo
Yeah, I know what you're saying. I guess I just like trying new things.

Answer
Don't listen to the first answer. Her camera is a cheap video camera that also takes still photos. It is about as far from a DSLR you can get.

A DSLR does not have zoom. DSLR cameras have interchangeable lenses. The "zoom" depends on the lens you happen to have attached at the time. No offense, but if you are clueless about DSLR cameras, why do you think you need one? If you are really interested in them, I would strongly suggest that you read a couple books about DSLR cameras and lenses before you invest over $500 (that is the cheapest DSLR you can get) for a camera you do not even know how to use.

There's nothing wrong with trying new things, but there are a lot of "new things" I can think of that I would not want to try without a little bit of knowledge first.

DSLR Camera Bennefits....

Freaky Nau

I use a digital canon compact which is arguably in the top 5 for compact. I am after a Nikon D40 with a 18-135MM Lens. What would the camera be able to offer over a digital compact. I know better pictures is the key but what on the lines of features.
My Dad is a photographer and I have had many chances to have/use his cameras many Nikons and the odd Leica. So its not like I need to buy one cheap (as I can use one of his) but more I am after something simple to get into DSLR cameras and learn the essentials to advance in photography. So thats why I am interested in the D40.

Answer
If you're a serious picture taker then switching from your Canon to a DSLR may require a little more than the D40. Sure, it's a decent camera but you're making the switch to something that requires a knowledge of manual SLR settings, like F-Stop, exposure timing (shutter speed on real SLRs) and focusing. If you're comfortable with those things, go a step up and, at least, get the D50. The D70 is, by far, the best value for semi-pro photographers, but that's a quantum jump in price.

With an SLR the most obvious change that photographers are looking for is actually GETTING the picture that they see through the viewfinder. It's a "single lens reflex" not a double lens (one for the camera, one for the viewfinder) or, in the case of some cameras, a digital viewfinder (either a dual with an eyepiece and LCD screen that display the image digitally instead of optically or just the back LCD panel).

If you're really up to spending the money then GET YOUR HANDS ON ONE. Go to your local Ritz camera store or whomever you can find and pick one up. It needs to feel natural, sturdy and the controls should feel intuitive. Play around, a little. Can you shoot off a picture in the first minute or two of picking it up? If not, consider that. There's going to be a learning curve involved. Will that be a problem or are you more comfortable with a point and shoot?

Anyway, a couple of things about the Nikon. Nikon lenses are major. There are more available than just about any manufacturer (including Canon) so you can find them everywhere (umm, eBay anyone?). Plus, Nikon uses a compression engine and buffer that allows you to continuous shoot for something like 170 frames, or more. Not that you'll do that (unless you're shooting a sporting event or world record, or something). What it does mean is that it has the fastest recovery time (time it takes to let you press that button again) in the business. Important if you don't have the reflexes of a panther.

I sure hope that helps you.

Does Verizon offer a camera phone with a resolution higher then 1.3 megapixels?

healthstud

Overseas they offer phones with 7 megapixels! What's the deal, why don't we have these phones?
What bothers me is that it's not that we're behind. That problem doesn't exist, because The United States doesn't manufacture any cell phones. ALL of our phones are from over-seas. They choose what to release for our carriers to sell. It's ridiculous.

Answer
When I last checked, Verizon Wireless carries only one phone w/ a camera w/ higher res than 1.3 Mpxl, and that's the Samsung a990 (3.0 Mpxl). It's pricey, even w/ rebates and New Every Two applied.

I think that most US consumers are still trying to figure out that their cellphone can make phone calls and do txt msgs. Only a few people care about what you talk about. Besides, a lot of people already have digital cameras that support high res, so the market for cameraphones w/ such high res, and the technology to support it, is still a ways off in the US.

It still comes down to the carriers making money off the largest group of people, while enticing the bleeding edge types w/ high-tech stuff. The bleeding edge crowd will have to wait, but probably not for long.

Verizon phones?

Ok, I get to get a new upgrade for my phone, yay! And I can get any phone I want cause our plan allows it, but Im really confused at which phones I want. Does the Nikon D3200 camera have a XLR output? so I can hookup wireless microphones to it...?

Thomas

Answer
NO dSLR has an XLR input (you are recording sound, not exporting it)

If you need XLR audio input, you need to either buy an audio recorder like the Zoom H4n or an actual video camera, like those made by Panasonic.

Using DSLR mic to record music?

Dem

I am in a toss up in either buying a mic for my camera or a mic to record music with. I was wondering would it be possible to hook up a camera mic(ex. Rode Shotgun mic) to an audio interface and record music with that mic? Or should I just invest in a recording mic and a video camera mic?

Answer
You did not tell us which dSLR or what you are planning to do. "Recording music" is vague.

Since you did not specify any dSLR, we get to pick.

If video is important, then a camcorder is preferred. It is designed to capture video. And audio. capturing still images is a secondary "convenience feature".

If stills are important, than use a still image capture device. Like a dSLR. Capturing video (and audio) is a secondary "convenience feature". For example, if you read the documentation availble for download from the dSLR manufacturer's web sites, you will find they (including a EOS 550D/T2i) will overheat when capturing video "for prolonged periods" (about 15 minutes maximum) and stop video capture until it cools down (takes a long time)... or... check their built-in (mono) mic and no (or extremely limted) manual audio control. This means no stereo without an external stereo mic and adding something like a XLR adapter (~$350) to plug into the stereo audio input + use the audio gain controls... or... use an external audio recording device like a Zoom H2, H2n, H4n and take the extra steps to import and sync the audio when editing.

Pretend you are at the gig with your dSLR, ready to capture video. The band's set is for an hour, then they take a break. You start recording. 3 minutes later they start recording. 12-18 minutes later the dSLR shuts down on its own because it has over heated.

Plan on investing on more than one mic. My kit includes a couple of handheld Shure SM58 dynamic mics, an Audio Technica AT-825 stereo mic, a couple of Sennheiser G3 wireless lavs with portable base stations and an Audio Technica AT-875R short shotgun mic. The Audio Technica AT-825 stereo mic is best for music because it provides for left/right separation that you won't get from a mono mic.

Basically you end up spending more money and time you would not spend if you use the tool designed for the task.

I am not saying dSLRs can't capture good video - they can - but they cannot be treated like a camcorder and they cannot replace a camcorder. For example, if you take a bunch of short duration videos becasue the project is scripted and you are using a shot list, then you should be OK. The time between the short sequences *might* be enough time for the dSLR to cool down. There are workarounds for lots of things that you normally don't need to worry about when using a camcorder...

And I did not get into the video file compatibility with your computer/video editor (MOV from the dSLR), lighting requirements, steadying devices, power supplies... and lots of other "accessories" needed for successful video capture.

If you need a dSLR footprint then look into the BlackMagic Cinema cams - better yet, the Canon EOS Cinema cams... They do not have the known problems dSLRs have with capturing video.

why dont dslr cameras take photographs using the lcd monitor like compact digital cameras?

satejalur

I just bought a nikon d60 slr after operating a canon powershot. one of the drawback i find is that the lcd scree cannot be used as a viewfinder. Any particular reason??

Answer
The optical viewfinder offers a better optical quality, important for critical focus and depth of field adjustments.

Also holding the camera to the eye helps brace the camera to help minimise camera shake.

Nokia X2 sports an impressive 5-megapixel camera with flash, 3.5mm jack - a must for a music phone - and it will lets you communicate through Nokia Messaging, as well as surf the web with Opera Mini. Being a model from the music series, the candybar features dedicated music controls on its left side. As the phone is not smart, you ll be using the Series 40 interface on the Nokia X2 s 2.2-inch QVGA screen.

What camera is best to buy?

Q. I want a camera that'll take high quality pictures but i don't know what kind of camera to get. I know a digital dlsr will take the quality i want but there too expensive for me. So i have no idea if i'd be better off sticking with a regular compact ? Anyone got any sites or an actual good camera to get?

Answer
For 2011, Nikon also boosted the Coolpix S9100's speed, gifting it the capability to shoot 9.5fps at full resolution. We also had the ability to shoot in a multitude of high-speed modes, including 120fps (at 1-megapixel), 60fps (at 2-megapixels), Best Shot Selection, Pre-shooting Cache, and Continuous High and Low. Not only could we capture action with ease, but the menu system was also speedier. We could fly through the Nikon Coolpix S9100's menus at a Roadrunner pace, so making hasty camera adjustments was an afterthought. We do favor Canon's organization over Nikon's, however, as many times we found ourselves wading through the main menu in search of options when they should have been available on the screen.

I'm looking for a new digital camera. Would like some help or recommendations?

Heybail

I'm unfortunately on the market for a new camera and I am terrible when it comes to shopping for one. I was hoping to get some help or recommendations.

In 2008 I got a Fujifilm Finepix J10 that I was very happy with.
http://www.fujifilm.com/support/digital_cameras/specifications/j/finepix_j10/

In 2011 I got a SONY Cyber-shot DSCW730.
http://store.sony.com/p/Sony-Cyber-shot-W730-Camera/en/p/DSCW730/L

I'm looking for something similar. A point and shoot camera that takes nice pictures, is easy to use and will fit in my pocket.

4x or higher optical zoom.
15-16 megapixals or more.
Flash is a must.
Video capability is a must. I'd prefer it not be in MP4 format and I also liked being able to zoom in video.

I enjoyed the different modes that I got with the Fujifilm and used them all the time.
I also would like to have a panoramic mode.

I don't care about the brand or the color. I also don't have a particular price range in mind, as long as it's reasonable.

Thank you!

Answer
I like the Nikon P330, or if you are not concerned about pocket size, the P7700. They don't have the high megapixel count sensors you want, but their sensors are larger (in physical size - not megapixels), which means better low-light capability.

http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-COOLPIX-Digital-Camera-Black/dp/B00BOZCSQE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1373104991&sr=8-1&keywords=nikon+p330

Besides, anything above 10Mp is overkill these days anyway. For proof, the $6,000 Nikon D3s is only 12 Megapixels.

If you insist on a high megapixel sensor, you are losing out on a lot of fine cameras.

Besides, megapixels do not provide any indication about quality - they only give you a certain resolution. And it takes double the megapixels to notice any difference anyway, so the difference between 12 and 16 megapixels is negligible.

Difference between IPhone 4 and the 4s?

Tyler

Ok so Im about to go buy an iPhone and I want to get the 4 because its 100$ cheaper than the 4s. Is the price difference worth it? Like could my carrier (which will be verizon) eventually stop supporting the 4 or something? And what are the major differences? Thanks.

Answer
There are some big differences.
The camera in iPhone 4 is 5 megapixel while iPhone 4s has 8 megapixel camera.

iPhone 4 records 720p HD videos wihle iPhone 4s records full HD 1080p videos.

iPhone 4 has a lower single core processor while iPhone 4s has higher dual core processor.

You can play games on better graphics on iPhone 4s than iPhone 4.

iPhone 4 does not have Siri while iPhone 4s has Siri.

What kind of DSLR camera is suitable for a beginner photographer?

Eric

Should I go for a new camera or a used one?

Also, what can't a beginner's DSLR camera do? (Eg compared to a camera for an experience pro photographer)?

Thanks!

Answer
DSLR's on the market offer about the same fetures across the board. the difference between a $400 canon 1000d, anon 500D and let's say a 7d is very fine tuned.

The 1000d is the beginner camera from canon. it will allow you to swap out the lenses, utilize manual aperture value, time value, and program modes. also it has a limited selection of automatice modes.

Other more important features such as shutter control, color schemes, and iso options are more limited on this camera.

And example of the iso ratings. the canon 1000d goes up to 1600 I belive, and from what I've seen ISO800 and 1600 on this camera are really unusable. the 500D has the ability to go up to 12,800 and is mostly usable to 6,400 due to it's integraded iso reduction ability, something the lower end models don't have. what does this mean to you? well night shots or low light indoor photography will be more detailed, shprer and have less noise than the cheaper model.

Another thing to look at is the megapixel resolution. The 1000d and most other nikon beginner models, have about 10MP for their picture quality. while the 500d has a 15.1mp sensor. and the 7d has an 18mp counter. this shouldn't come as a suprise, the more you pay, the better your picture quality becomes.

The included kit lens for the 1000d opposed to the 500d as opposed to the 7d are all representitive of the build quality of the camera. the 1000d and 500d both have a basic 18-55mm lens, but the 500d's lens has a better feal to it than the 1000d. the zoom ring is slightly smoother and the auto focus is considerably faster.

The 7d has a very nice 28-135mm zoom lens. it has some features found on more expensive lenses, like a non moving lens focusing ring, and zoom ring. the zoom is even more fine tuned than the other kit lenses and more of the lense is made of metal as opposed to the plastic found on the other kit lenses.

Now comes the issue of video. both the 500d and 7d have hd video recording. the 7d records 1080p at 30fps while the 500d does it in 20fps. the 1000d does not have any video recording at all.

And finally there's build construction. you would expect a $400 camera not to be as well built as an $800 or $1600 camera and you'd be right. the 1000d is cheap and plasticy. the 500d is about the same weight but has a little more solid feal. the 7d is considerably heavier and is ruberized nearly all around it. plus more expensive cameras like the 7d are weather sealed meaning mositure will not permiate the camera if it's raining. you don't find that on the cheaper models.

There are many many more differences between all the dslr types, but it all comes down to how much you are willing to pay for your camera. I would suggest not buying a cheap intro dslr from either canon or nikon, instead look at the more expensive cameras like the 500d or 50d from canon or the d5000 from nikon, whichever one can meat your price point, that would be the one that can work for you now, and the one you can grow with later.

Hope this helps

DSLR questions on lenses and cameras?

yipeepep

Here's the deal. I'm in high school and i'm really into photography. I'm thinking about getting a Canon 40D. i want to take photos of monuments, landscapes like oceans and skies and mountains, i also want to take the occasional average photo like a family picture. I will be taking prints under 15x15 so megapixels shouldn't be a problem. fyi for landscaping my pics dont necessarily have to be a wide angle cause of my small prints

1) what is the nikon equivalent to the canon 40d?
2) is there a camera you recommend over the 40d based on what i am taking? (i will not spend more than what i payed for the 40d)
3) what lenses do you recommend based on what i said i was saying?
4) if you are a professional say that as well so i know (i will still look at non-professional reviews)
5) how important are IS lenses for what i am doing?

please answer ALL questions if u want 10 points for best answer
good luck!

Answer
first of all Canon makes good cameras and the 40D is supposed to be very good but I am a Nikon person so I would recommend the Nikon D300 . I have to diagree with the person who said only software makes it have some of the lowerst noise out there. I have the D300 and never turn on the noise reduction untill above 1600 ISO unless I am doing long exposures, over 6 seconds , then there is a noise reduction algorythm just for that ( with it set to off the camera apllies no noise reduction to ISOs below 4200/H0.3 setting and for the record on the other noise reductions settings on the D300 are turend on it starts applying them at 800 not 400 ) I probably will not get the points as I have no Idea what the 40D goes for But my D300 is worth every penny I paid for it and more. It has great color, ecellent performance at high ISO, great backwards lens compatibility ( I am using lenses I bought in the 70s still.) A titanium frame and sealed body. Its rated for hundreds of thousands of activations. I can shoot in 12 or 14 bit depending on the tonal range I need ( which may be very important for landscape). Its has 51 selectable autofocus points in 3 autoficus modes. It has 3 metering modes and they have user selectable.size

For landscape lenses I like the AF-S Zoom-NIKKOR 17-35mm f/2.8D IF-ED or the AF-S DX Zoom-NIKKOR 17-55mm f/2.8G IF-ED if you want a bit more range. Remember the 1.5 crop factor ( 1.6 on the 40 D ) So the field of view would be that of a 25 to 48 and 25 to 78 respectively.

For portraits on the D300 I would say the 50 mm 1.4 or if you want to save abit the 50 mm 1.8 Nikon lens. Great bokeh and sharp as a tack on these. The 17-55 2.8 will also do a great job for portraits

Am I a professional photographer. That depends on your definition of professional If you mean do I get most of my income from ( 3/4 or more) from photography the no I am not. I have however been doing work for hire since 1975 consitently

IS/VR is rarely ever necessary it is at times very helpful. On a tripod you certainly can easily work without it. You can also get by without it if you keep the shutterspeed at or above the reciprocal of the focal length ( on your 200 mm lens shoot at 1/250 second handheld or faster and you'll never miss IS/VR) Where VR,/IS really pays for itself is where you need slow shutter speeds with longer lenses to conpensate for lower light

I don't think you'd go wrong with either Nikon or Canon systems, I am diehard Nikon but I have friends that feel the same about thier Canons. enjoy whatever you get

IPad 2 or the new iPad?

FlyBaby

I am looking into buying my first iPad. I mainly would be using it for Internet, email, PowerPoint, and pages. I need something to do schoolwork on but don't want a bulky laptop. So which would be better? Occasionally, I would use it for movies and such when I'm on vacation an whatnot, but schoolwork is the main use. So which should I get? And how much memory? And why? Thanks!

Answer
I think you should have a look at ipad 3
Pros:
1. Sleek new screen, incredibly refined and mature.
2. A large app and media store, and a 5-megapixel rear camera for 3D photos.
3. The third-generation iPad will feature a Retina Display that offers double the resolution and four times as many pixels as the iPad 2 and users will be able to use the iPad without actually touching the iPad. Basically, wherever you look on the iPad screen, the camera will recognize through the use of constant retina scanning.
4. Heavy application loads 6 seconds faster than iPad 2.

Cons:
1. More heavier than the iPad 2.
2. Bigger battery means increased recharge time.
3. The new iPad gets warm.
4. apps and movies utilize more space.

Video Recording: iPad 2 Vs Sony Handycam?

overtino

I'm confused about the iPad 2's camcording ability. Obviously it would be better to buy a camcorder primarily made for recording video, however I am wondering how it lines up against a generic camcorder. The iPad 2 rear camera is said to be less than 1 megapixel for photos, but 720p for video. I have no idea what 720p means. Can someone give me an idea how it would compare to something like this: http://www.sony.co.uk/product/sdh-standard-definition-on-memory-stick/dcrsx34el.ceh#pageType=TechnicalSpecs
To answer 1: The VIDEO aspect of the iPad 2 is supposedly HD quality. The PHOTOS are poor.

Can anyone compare QUALITY of iPad 2 VIDEO Vs Sony Handycam, rather than tell me the prices and photo quality, which I obviously already know.

Answer
Full HD is 1080P the IPad is 720P "P" stands for progressive scan (it scans lines 1,2,3,4,5,6) rather then I (meaning Interlaced,) scans Odd then even lines.

The camera you linked to is not HD as in it does not record in 720P or 1080P its standard definition, Personally it will perform better than the Ipad. the Ipad is £400 ish the camera is £250 but the camera inside the IPad is probably only few quids worth more like a reasonable web cam, but certaily not as good as a camcorder

What ever the model its going to a better job than the Ipad, its a real camera rather then something that takes video, My son has a nintendo DS that takes pictures, its not as good as a basic camera.

the video camera on the Ipad is not an important art of the device, people dont buy it for that, there are many mobile phones that are as good as the Ipads video quality.

If you want to take video, then get a camcorder, if you want the Ipad then get that but dont expect the camera to be that good

Think I have covered your points

diff between 5megapixel and 10 megapixel camera?

senthil ku

how diff. megapixel of camera will make difference in picture quality

Answer
You can print a 10 megapixel image with the same quality as the 5 megapixel but twice as large.

It depends on what you want to do, 10megapixel images use up your memory card quicker so they are not right for everyone. I have an 8 megapixel camera but most of my snaps are just 3 megapixel as I am not that fussy about quality.

A good lens on the camera is just as important.

difference in 5 and 10 megapixel cameras?

Alexandria

whats the difference in the pictures.?
is it worth the money.?

Answer
Megapixel resolution is about potential photo size, not picture quality.

Most companies are touting high mega pixel to sell cameras, but high mega pixel settings take longer to process and may not be needed unless required for large pictures or enlarging parts of pictures. Maximum print size for a 3 mega pixel setting is 8 x 10 inches.

http://www.danscamera.com/Learning/going_digital/#resolution ...

Would choose a 3 MP setting unless you plan to print a photo larger than 8 x 10 inches. You actually lose picture quality when you crop a higher MP photo down to a smaller size. It also takes more money, memory space, processing, and transmission time with a higher setting.

Looking more like a camera rather then a cell phone when looked from the back is one of the most noticeable features of the Sony Ericsson K790. If you do manage to get convinced that it is a camera when you see it form the back then it means that the designers have succeeded with what they set out to do. The 3.2 megapixel camera lens does justice to this feeling as well. Essentially similar to the Sony Ericsson K800 ; both the sister phones are seperated by a simple difference. The Sony Ericsson K800 is a dual-mode UMTS handset while K790 is a Tri Band EDGE handset. The handsets have a classic Sony Ericsson design, with a large screen and responsive, tactile keypad with a sleek and stylish dual front phone design.

The superb technology within the K800 and K790 deliver a new level of imaging quality in camera phones. High resolution, sharp, crisp images are guaranteed every time thanks to added features more common to standalone cameras. 3.2 Megapixel resolution with Auto Focus is just the start. The cameras in K800 and K790, like in any digital still camera, have a Xenon flash that gives sharp and colourful pictures even in the dark with red-eye reduction included. Also, the image stabilizer function compensates for the small hand movements that can make pictures blurred. The camera lens is protected by a cover which when slid open automatically switches the handset into camera mode.

It often also happens that in the heat of the moment, you forget to press the button at the exact isntance. Sony Ericsson now offers an easy way out of this problem - Bestpic. Press the shutter button once and get 9 full quality 3.2 megapixel pictures to choose from in a time sequence â 4 pictures before and 4 pictures after the actual image you captured. Full HTML browsing with RSS feeds and Google Search give you high-speed, graphic-rich Internet use. Support for standard push email and a connectivity suite comprising Bluetooth 2.0, USB 2.0 and Memory Stick Micro (M2) means that keeping in touch is effortless. A complete entertainment package including music player (support for multiple file formats is included - MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+), 3D gaming and an RDS FM radio are also provided for business downtime or relaxation.

Both products will be commercially available in Velvet Black and start shipping globally during Q2 2006. The variants in the market will be:

K790i - Tri Band EDGE 900/1800/1900 MHz for Europe, Asia Pacific, Americas

70mm Imax vs 1080p blu ray?

Taylor

Hi I was wondering which has the best video quality a movie shot using a Imax camera and played in a 70mm Imax theater or a good quality blu ray disk played on a home HDtv or projector. Also are 70mm Imax projectors always professionaly calibrated because I know that is a problem with some theaters.

Answer
70mm IMAX is shot on 50mm analog film, and played back in analog format. It is hard to directly compare it to digital, but it is equivalent to roughly 27 megapixels. Blu Ray is a little over 2 megapixels. IMAX is designed to look great on a humongous screen. If you showed Blu Ray on the same humongous screen, you'd probably notice the pixelization, but will look great on a smaller, home screen.

Nintendo DSi XL vs. 3DS vs. PSP 3000 vs. Go?

OKwithme

Answer
3DS because...

"The Nintendo 3DS is based on a custom Pica200 graphics processor. It has two screens; the top screen is a 3.53-inch 5:3 3D screen with a resolution of 800Ã240 pixels (400Ã240 pixels per eye, WQVGA) that is able to produce a stereoscopic three-dimensional effect without 3D glasses, while the bottom screen is a 3.02-inch 4:3 non-3D touch panel with a resolution of 320Ã240 pixels (QVGA). Imagine a 360/PS3, but portable.

The 3DS weighs approximately 8 oz. and, when closed, is 5.3 inches wide, 2.9 inches long, and 0.8 inches tall.

The system features several additions to the design of the original DS, including a slider on the side of the device that adjusts the intensity of the 3D effect, a round nub analog input called the "Slide Pad", an accelerometer, and a gyroscope. In addition, there is an infra-red communicator port situated on the top of the unit.

The 3DS has two cameras on the outside of the device, capable of taking 3D photos and capturing 3D video, as well as a camera positioned above the top screen that faces the player, capable of taking 2D photos and capturing 2D video; both cameras have a resolution of 640Ã480 pixels (0.3 Megapixel). The system also has 3D movie playback capability; Nintendo has made deals with Warner Bros, Disney, and DreamWorks to deliver 3D movies. Although no titles have been announced yet, the trailers for Dreamworks' How to Train Your Dragon, Warner Bros' upcoming film Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole and Disneyâs upcoming film Tangled were shown on the 3DS during the Expo. MP3 player.

In addition to its own software, the Nintendo 3DS will be backward compatible with Nintendo DS software, including DSi software. Announced titles include Kid Icarus: Uprising and Mario Kart 3DS. Many companies have signed on to develop for the 3DS, and over 75 titles in all have been confirmed. At launch, the Nintendo 3DS cards will hold up to 2GB of game data and look almost exactly the same as those of the current DS. However, there is a small tab jutting out on the one side, most likely to prevent 3DS cards from being inserted in a Nintendo DS.

The system supports multiplayer gameplay via a local wireless connection or over the Internet. Expanding upon the connectivity of the Nintendo DS, the Nintendo 3DS features an "always on" background connectivity system that rumors suggest as "Crosspass", which can automatically seek and connect to wireless network nodes such as Wi-Fi hotspots, sending and downloading information in the background while in sleep mode or while playing a game. One application being considered for Crosspass is functionality to "automatically acquire magazine and newspaper articles", similar to networked e-book reader applications. The background connectivity will be utilized in Crosspass, which allows users to exchange software content regardless of what software is currently in the console. For Crosspass, sharing content is stored in a "data slot" in the console. Using this data slot, Nintendo 3DS users can readily share and exchange content for multiple games at the same time, whenever they are connected, even when playing unrelated games. Using the console's background connectivity, a Nintendo 3DS in Tag Mode can automatically discover other 3DS units within range, establish a connection, and exchange content for mutually-played games, all transparently and without requiring any user input, even when the console is dormant. Tag Mode can be customized to fit the user's preferences, including opting out of Tag Mode for selected software.

According to game developer THQ, the Nintendo 3DS features sophisticated anti-piracy technology which Nintendo believes is able to significantly curb video game piracy, which had increasingly depressed the handheld market with the proliferation of cheap flash memory and the rise in illegal file sharing.

The system has been shown in three color schemes: blue, red, and black. Purple and bronze/orange versions were also seen at E3 2010."

Games that will be coming out for the system includes: Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D - "The Naked Sample", Resident Evil: Revelation, Dead Or Alive, Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition, Kid Icarus, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Kingdom Hearts, Assassin's Creed: Lost Legacy, Ninja Gaiden, Star Fox 64 3D, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Lead the Ghosts, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, and many more.

3D movies that will be coming out for it: Dreamworks' How to Train Your Dragon, Warner Bros' upcoming film Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole, Disneyâs upcoming film Tangled, and more.

I found only one web page which sells cameras BHphotovideo.com

thanks

B&H is always a good choice. Most of us regulars here, including me, do lots of business with them.

However you may want to look in to import fees if the camera comes from the US. This may drive you price above what you'd pay there.

Best Cheap Camera Under 1000$?

BortaMaga

Is there any Canon camera that can shoot at least 30fps in Full HD/1080p with stabilizer and manual focus and have high ISO at least about 6400 under 1000$? (if Canon don't have one, any other camera)

Answer
I would go with a DSLR... But, if all you want to do is take video then I would go with a video camera.

DSLR - I would go with the Canon T3i (in the link) many youtubers and people that make videos use this camera. I have this camera a it work amazingly... And at the price point you could afford another lens, or some lighting... You normally need lighting when making videos.

http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/slr_cameras/eos_rebel_t3i_18_55mm_is_ii_kit

(here and you can see the specs better on the Canon website, but you should buy it from because the deals on amazon are great and you will save some money)

Camcorders -
I dont know much about video cameras... I am not sure how anything really works on them, but this looks like a good camera if all you want to do is take video

The new iPhone 6?!?!?!?

Tina

My friends said " I'm gonna get the iPhone 6 when t comes out" but they nvr told me when it came out. So when does it come out?

Answer
The iPhone 6 is rumored to have a 12-megapixel sensor, up from the 8-megapixel version of the iPhone 5. It could be waterproof with a 4.8-inch Retina+ HD display with a 3D camera and fingerprint reader. Prices are being quoted bewteen $99 and $400.
For months, leaks, photographs and specifications have surfaced online. (See the alleged iPhone 6 photos.)
According to IBTimes, Apple is rumored to unveil the iPhone 6 simultaneously with the iPhone 5S at the September event to celebrate the public release date of iOS 7. The tech experts believe Apple will release the iPhone 5S on Sept. 20.
The iPhone 5S will have a new super HD camera/screen, a better battery, NFC, and "possible updates include an IGZO screen for Retina+ 128GB storage." The iPhone 5S is rumored to have internet speeds around ten times as fast as 3G.
It may also have a price of $199, just like the current iPhone 5, and have possible release dates of August, September, or October.
Rumors of a summer release for the iPhone 5S began in April this year when sources close to the electronics giant, including manufacturers, leaked details that production had started.
Apple has unveiled a new handset every year since it announced the first iPhone in 2007. More recent models, including the iPhone 4S and the iPhone 5, were announced in October 2011 and September 2012 respectively.
Despite earlier reports, Apple won't stop production of the iPhone 5 in addition to the iPhone 4 and 4S when the next model comes out.
Analysts at Goldman Sachs noted in their report this week that abandoning the iPhone 5 and all other previous iPhone models would be a major departure from Apple Inc.'s current strategy of keeping the older models around and selling them as low cost handsets.

i gonna buy a phone but i don't now what to choose so please help me i like the iPhone 3gs and the iPhone 4 but i don't know what to choose what do you think should i get? the iPhone 3gs or the iPhone 4? thanks

If you are getting an iPhone then you may as well get the iPhone 4 as it is the more up to date version and has more on it that the 3gs. It has better screen resolution, Facetime calling, A front facing camera, a 5 megapixel camera with led flash and lots more. You can compare the 2 here on the Apple website - http://www.apple.com/uk/iphone/compare-iphones/ â¥

Digital camera suggestions, please?

BandGeek1

I'm looking to buy a digital camera for my mom for Christmas, but I know next to nothing about digital cameras. Could someone please suggest some good cameras for me? If you can describe your personal experiences with the camera, that would be great!

She's not a professional photographer or anything; she just wants it so that she can record memories of her family. I don't want to get her a piece of crap though. So, with that in mind, I have devised these criteria:

$150 or less (I don't have a ton of money)
12 mega-pixels (or around there; I want it to take good quality pictures)
Able to hold at least 200 pictures
Good battery life

Thanks for all your help! Merry Christmas/happy holidays!

"camera keep freezing that i am not happy with and the body leaves finger prints so camera looks dirty even if u use it carefully ;/...plus it takes just micro memory stick, so if u previously had a proper stick-forget it....i am upset about making a wrong choice."

I don't actually have the camera myself however my best-friend does and its pretty amazing being able to see how you you look before it gets taken also if you want to take picture of kids the front screen will show 5 secs of entertainment to get kids attention.
Its £160 approx here in Britain which means it would probably be cheaper in the states. A very good price. I got the reviews off of www.argos.co.uk

what is the difference between optical zoom & digital zoom in a digital camera?

sammy bazz

Answer
One Word, "Cropping".

Optical Zoom refers to lenses actually making the subject of the photo appear to be closer to the camera becasue it magnifies. You still are using ALL of your megapixels four the photo.

Digital zoom is just like cropping. If you zoon in two times, you are making the pixels twice as big, and having half as many of them in your photo. This makes it look grainy.

Any Point and shoot Digital camera that has at least 1.6 Megapixels will do a fine Job when printing a 4 X 6 Inch Photo...

Your 1024 X 768 Pixel Monitor only has 786432 Pixels which is 0.786 MegaPixels.

BUT, the lenses on digital cameras are usually nothing close to impressive in most cases.
They may have a 3X or 4X Optical Zoom Lens. (Ignore digital Zoom, See above and below term "Cropping").

You can only get so close you your subject.
For Example:
My Two sons were playing in the pool on a bright sunny day. My wife wanted my 11 year old daughter to take a photo of both of them My daughter wasted 5 pictures trying to get them both, but my Brat of a 9 year old decided to Jump the other direction to try to mess up every one of her shots.

The Photos were ruined, we all thought. BUT, she was using a 5 Megapixel Casio camera.
I looked at each of these landscape images again. I found that it I cropped out the Brat by turning the photo 90 degrees to be a Portrait shape and getting rid of the 2/3 of the photo that was bad, there was a fantastic image.
This image had 1.66 Pixels left in it which produced a Brillaint 4 x 6 photo of my One son.
The Lighting was perfect, the color was great, the reflections off the crests of the water was breathtaking. There were five little droplets of water that had been frozen in time dripping off his ear and there were 5 little shadows of the droplets on his chest.
The Photo is an award winner that we would have Thrown away if we did not have enough megapixels in our Camera.

More megapixels does not make your snapshots look better.
More megapixels gives you the freedom to look for the hidden beauty in each photo, crop out the bad, and have fantastic quality left in the Image.

Picture two, just Daniel after Cropping.

No computer monitor can do these two photos justice. Remember the monitor only shows about 1 7th of the pixels in its highest resolution.
If you really want to see what I am talking about, copy both photos to a cd or a memory card, take it to walmart, walgreens, CVS pharmacy, or anyone that does full resolution 4 x 6 prints and print them out. You will KNOW why you want more than 3 Megapixels.

P.S. My daughter age 11 DID win the Blue ribbon with Honors at the county 4H fair with this photo and nine others that she took herself. She also got a Blue ribbon at the State fair, too.

The camera she used has been discontinued, but its replacement is here.

How low should my camera hang from the neck strap?

teenEDITOR

This is a terribly newbie question, but I've been wondering. Should the camera be at my chest? near my waist? I have a DSLR

Answer
Everyone has their preferences, but let me tell you mine.

Put your arms straight now on your sides.
Then, cross them so they overlap.

I like to have my DSLR camera body there, because that's the natural place to reach with my hands. One shouldn't have to fumble around when the perfect shot appears.

If the camera is too low (waist or lower) then it bounces against some pretty delicate areas if you are walking or running with it. This can be especially uncomfortable if you have a longer lens attached. I also discovered that a metal beltbuckle can really scratch up a camera.

If the camera is too high (chest level), then you don't have very much neckstrap leeway. When you lift the camera up to your eye, and if you turn it sideways for "portrait" orientation, the short strap becomes an obstacle.

By the way, you may notice professional sportsphotographer or photojournalists wearing two cameras at different strap heights. Why? That way, the camera won't be banging into each other and they avoid damage to their expen$ive lenses.

Can someone measure their Canon dslr camera strap for me, please?

tkdtkd

I'm making a cover for the strap, but don't have the camera with me. I have a Canon Rebel t1i, but think all the straps are the same. Can someone give me the exact dimensions - width and length of the wider part of the strap, please? See this link for the design if you like...http://www.designspongeonline.com/2009/06/diy-wednesdays-camera-strap-cover.html

Also, if you have the kit lens - 18-55mm, can you give me the diameter of the widest part of the lens, please? I'm also making a little bag for the lens. Unfortunately my camera and sewing machine are in different states right now!

Thank you so much!

Answer
My Canon is a Rebel XTi, 4 years old, but I do still have the strap. It is 20 1/2 inches long as in those directions, but the width is 1 9/16. Just a tad over the 1 1/2 the directions say.

I absolutely hate that strap! I bought another one when I got the camera. It was only about $12 and is a little stretchy and soft on my neck.

Is there a very slim digital camera that has 10 megapixels, takes video with sounds, and...??

Apples and

Is there a digital camera that has 10 megapixels, is very slim and lightweight, takes video with sound and has a rechargable battery that the computer charges like with the iPod?

Answer
After answering questions here for about 8 months, I finally decided to get a Canon Powershot SD900. NATURALLY - since my camera arrived today - I found a review in Popular Photography today that suggests that maybe the Pentax Optio A20 would be a better choice. But, I don't believe it. The Pentax does have shake reduction, but I doubt this will be necessary in a camera that only zooms to an equivalent of 114 mm and I just can not believe that 10 MP on a smaller 1/2.5" sensor will be better than 10 MP on a 1/1.8" sensor that is nearly twice as large. The SD900 has the larger sensor. It does have sound on videos. I have not used that yet, but my son has it on his Canon A630 and the sound is quite good, so I assume this will be also. The SD900 has a rechargeable battery, but I do not know if it charges via the USB. It comes with an AC battery charger that is actually smaller than the camera itself. The battery takes a full charge in two hours or less from AC.

Anyhow, go here to see the comparison article on 5 compact camera and see what you think if you doubt my choice. If you really don't want to read reviews, I am still happy that I am getting the Canon SD900 and this would be my recommendation for anyone at this point, since it is what I chose for myself. I also bought a 5-year Mack warranty for $50. If you are even a little paranoid or clutzy, I feel that it is money well-spent. These are somewhat delicate compared to SLR's.

Will putting a USB connector into my camera charge it while it's connected to me computer?

Miranda

I have a KODAK 10.2 Megapixel EasyShare M340 Digital Camera and I'm going to Wal MArt to get a USB cable for it and I'm just wondering if the camera will charge if I connect it to a computer or will I need a charger. If I need a charger can you please give me a link to where to buy it ow what it's called? It would mean so much if I could get a quick response because this is urgent!

Answer
Most cameras will get charged by connecting to the USB port. two or three hours for full charging. The USB port has a 5.0 volts and 0.5 amperes DC supply. Most external chargers are smart chargers. The electronic circuitry provided will sense the voltage of the battery and keep the voltage supply slightly above that value. This is called trickle charging and will contribute to long life of the battery. If you want to use an external charger for the Kodak camera that is OK. It is only a matter of convenience. Try to get a charger from a Kodak dealer.

I am buying a new digital camera, what kind should I buy?

Allison

I mainly take family pics and action shots at kids' games. I like taking outdoor, indoor, and night time shots. I don't want to spend a fortune, but need a good camera.

Also, I know the higher the megapixel the better... but what about the zoom, and other things they list out on a camera? what should I concern myself with?

Answer
You must ask yourself several questions first.

what am i using for?
will i carry it everwhere?
do i want zoom?
what kind batteries?
what kinda memory card?
how many megapixels?

first 3 questions will help with compact and full bodied.
as zoom camera are for the most part larger.
dont go for over 8MP, as picture quality actually decreases.
compacts tend to have smaller ccds. so dont go over 6MP.

Try to find a camera that take AA's, and either CF, or SD memory cards. these and around to stay.

I like the Canon s3 for zoom camera.
and for compact Canon PowerShot A710 IS is good.
sub compact you might have to look around.
or the SD600 is good too.

hope this helps

Good camera for taking professional looking pictures that doesnt cost so much?

adam29379

Im looking for a good digital camera I suppose...I need a camera that takes good pictures with a pretty high megapixel but doesn't cost too much. I know you can get a camera that costs $3000 but I dont have that kind of money. The camera will be for taking pictures of mostly dirt track racing and foot ball games. Please list specific cameras! I know cannons are good and Kodak.

Answer
The two genres that you list: racing and football are similar in this way: (1) there is fast movement and (2) you, the photographer, can't get as close to it as you would like. This means that the best camera for this would be one with little or no shutter lag, a fast autofocus, a reasonable burst rate, and a fast telephoto lens. The lens could cost as much as the camera body. Your budget, however, will not cover the cost of a suitable mid-tier dSLR and a good telephoto lens. So you may have to settle for a super-zoom compact camera. It will be more difficult to get good images, but you might be surprised at the quality that you do get. There are too many to list here. So go to http://dpreview.com for the reviews and recommendations.

Do not focus on megapixels, as any camera today will give you good images. In fact too many megapixels on a small sensor will be the exact opposite of what you need.

Lastly, the single most important factor for getting professional images is the ability of the photographer. An expensive camera is not a guarantee that you will get professional results if you don't know what you're doing.
