what is a good blog to keep up with DSLR release date and other camera tips?

I want to find a web site that is like gizmodo for DSLR's. So basically camera news and tips about cameras, release dates, accessories and software.

Answer
There are two I know of.

One is for Nikon system gear and the other is for Canon system gear.

http://nikonrumors.com/

http://www.canonrumors.com/

You can do a Yahoo Search for other brand dSLR's

Are you allowed to bring in cameras for the Olympic Games?

Peter

Hi everyone.

I know there are a lot of rules about what you can bring into the Olympic Games. I lost the email with all the info :(

I will be going to a few Football games at Hampden Park and I don't know if I am allowed to take my DSLR camera? It will be kept in a small flight case (I don't care if secuirity need to check my case)

Thanks
Peter
PS What do you think the maximum lens size would be? And would I be allowed a tripod?

Answer
Only Panasonic cameras will be allowed in Olympic venues.

Not really.

http://www.techradar.com/news/photography-video-capture/cameras/camera-restrictions-at-the-olympics-explored-1078508

This is a pure guess on my part, but I can't imagine you getting hassled (at a football stadium, at least) over the size of your lens. Unless it's 600mm+, that is...

Best DSLR camera for film making and photography?

dslr camera 35mm
on Full-frame digital SLR - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
dslr camera 35mm image
Q. I've decided to purchase my first dslr camera. I'm a amateur film maker so I need a camera that can handle that, with excellent video. But I also do a lot of photography, especially sports.
I'm not too concerned with costs. Basically, I want the best possible video and picture quality possible. With quality, I'm not really willing to sacrifice.
On a less important note, I have pretty small hands, so an especially large body might be a problem.

Answer
Film makers use 16 mm and 35 mm motion picture cameras and most of them rent them from a place like here

http://www.birnsandsawyer.com/_camera-rentals/35mm-cameras/

Some dSLR's have a video feature, but are NOT designed to be a primary video camera. For those you can rent them from Birns and Sawyer or buy something like those listed on this link

http://catalog2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ModelList?storeId=11201&catalogId=13051&catGroupId=34401&surfModel=AG-HPX370

The above cameras are designed to produce video projects and do an excellent job

ALL video, motion picture and digital still cameras have large camera bodies, but since all but a few shots needed to produce a film/video involve the camera being mounted on a tripod, this should NOT be a problem for you.

Here is a link to the type video camera used by one of my sports shooting colleagues.

http://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/cat-broadcastcameras/cat-dvcam/product-DSR400PL/

The lens he has attached to is is a Fujinon ENG Style zoom designed for 1080p

http://www.fujifilmusa.com/products/optical_devices/broadcast-hd-sd/hdtv-lenses/2-3-eng/za-select/za22x76-berd/

While simple $300 P&S cameras shoot both stills and video, neither are what you would want to use if your goal is excellent stills or excellent video.

Do You Think Entry Level DSLR Cameras Help or Hurt Professional Photography?

electrosma

With better and better entry level DSLR cameras coming out on the market, do you think this is good or bad for professionals? Such as for wedding photographers, child sports, family portraits, and among others.

Answer
It's good for the next generation and competition is never a bad thing for the previous generation!

The difference will always be the photographer - good photographers can produce better results, more consistently and more creatively: more likely to stop you in your tracks than photographers who are not so good.

Exactly the same argument occurred when 35mm technology hit the market and when the SLR camera was launched... low end competition will always impact the market though - but it effects the lower end photographers first, especially if they can't differentiate their work from the bulk of amateurs.

What camera should I buy my brother for making movies?

canon dslr camera 550d

canon dslr camera 550d image

fonzii

My budget at the moment is about 2-3k, and I have NO idea about any cameras. I've been hearing a lot about dSLR cameras, but I have no idea how long they can film for. I also have no idea about HD cams or anything either.

My brother is crazy about picture quality. I would like to get him something he can continue to use and not have to replace. Again, my budget is about $2000-3000. Are there any possible cams I should look into? Thanks everyone.

Answer
Within your budget the maximum clip length is 12mins, which is 4GB, so for 8GB cards 16Gb cards you can double, quadruple etc.

Canon DSLRs are the best for video. The 600D, 60D are probably the best of the current bunch, articulating screens, mic level control. Should leave some budget for a couple of nice lenses, say a 50mm prime f1.4 and a Sigma 17-50 f2.8 zoom?

If your brother is serious then have a chat with him, it's a lot of money to spend if he has his dream camera in mind and you buy the wrong thing.

A lot of folk will tell you the 5Dmk2 is the one to go for, I refute this, the shutter rolls and it ties you to very expensive full frame lenses. It's good, but it leaves you no budget for lenses, and things have moved on.

I have a 550D and a 7D. If I was buying for video today I'd buy either a 600D or a 60D.

What kind of dslr camera should I buy?

Kenjii_Won

I want to buy a DSLR camera. It would be my first ever DSLR camera. But I'm not sure what model should I buy. My budget is around Rm1800 to Rm2100. I'm going to use this camera on street photography and might take landscapes pictures. Please help me!!

Answer
For a budget like that I'd recommend a Canon EOS 550D/600D (but not the much more expensive 650D) or a Nikon D5100 or D3200 (Canon or Nikon are the best at these prices).
If you want to remain at this price, you may buy the camera with the kit lens (18-55mm) which enables you to take landscapes and if you have some money left or to spend more (not too much, about a hundred dollars) you may buy a 50mm f/1.8 lens (can be found at both manufacturers), a cheap lens with large aperture so that you can achieve great bokeh in street photography.
However, even when you don't have much budget (as I was when I bought mine) I would NOT choose the cheapest DSLR, i.e. Canon EOS 1100D or Nikon D3100...

I am very interested in buying a new camera and love the 'vintage' look that disposable cameras create. I was just wondering what sort of camera gives this effect in a professional way (high megapixels) I have seen the Diana Cameras and they look very good, however i believe they are not digital and require film?

Answer
There is an effect called the Lomo effect, you can buy this as an action in Photoshop for a few dollars.

here's a link to a free one

What's the best camera for shooting very high megapixel shots in moving objects but still affordable?

Peter

I would like a camera dSLR or hybrid that can do very high megapixel still images (preferably 35MP+) on moving objects and people. I also like to don't want to spend a year's salary on a Hasselblad. What kind of cost effective options are available?

Answer
I think the only dSLR that goes that high is the Nikon D800.

It's 36.3 MP and $3,000.

I own an DSLR camera
400D Canon Rebel XSi
I just bought it.. and I havnt got any neat pictures
and also.. I would like to learn tips of how to take artistic pictures of myself by myself at home
I own a tripod
Lol.. I usually do that.. run and everything

But the thing is that I dont get to focus or see how im posing or anything.. X.x
it's giving me a hard time

Answer
I have the canon XTI so the process should be similar. You can set up the camera on the tripod with the timer, or buy the remote to take the picture yourself. Read in the manual how to "lock the focus" you will want to focus on something that will be the same distance away that you will be sitting. that way you will be the focus.
Take a ton of pictures at different angles and in different places, you never know what you will get. Try some in black and white also. If you don't have a photo editor you can download Paint.net for free and it is simple to use.

you can also hook-up your camera to a computer through the usb cable and take pictures with the computer. I believe if you use the EOS software that comes with the camera.
that way you can see what the camera is seeing before you take the shot.

Which Cannon camera is best for outside photography?

Q. I am looking for an entry dslr canon camera for this summer. I have a couple models that I am looking into. They are the XSI, XS, T3, T1i. Which one would be best for outside. Can you tell me the basic differences.

Answer
It's your skills using the camera which dictate which camera is the best performer is under your desired circumstances.

However, the T1i is the best camera in the list. The T3 is the newest but the T1i does everything it does and has more features. I would recommend looking at the newer T2i if your budget allows as it has a slightly better sensor than the T1i. But the T1i is a remarkable camera.

Jessica

i love to take picture so i would like to have a good camera on my cell to have easy access to a camera

Answer
2 megapixels isn't terrible high res, especially these days. I'm surprised you can find a camera with such poor resolution on the market these days.

Most smartphones (Android OS, Blackberry, iPhones, Nokia's line of phones, Windows Mobile) are pushing 5 megapixels in the mid-range, and I've seen 8 megapixel cams on some of the higher-end phones.

The real issue, though, isn't the resolution: how do you want to use the camera? If you're looking to use it for quick snapshots, it's fine. If you're looking to replace a normal camera, I'd suggest going for something with 5 megapixels.

what contributes more for a good picture clarity in a camera ? megapixels or lens ?

sonu

My friend tells me that his 5 megapixel mobile phone doesn't capture as clear pictures as a 3 megapixel Sony digital camera with good lenses......If it's true then....Please enlighten me on this........thank you

Answer
The lens, absolutely.

Consider it this way.
A coke can sized $1000 DSLR lens has a hard time to resolve 20MP on a sensor that is as big as a large coin.
Given this, would it be realistic to assume that a tiny, cheap plastic lens could resolve 5MP on a sensor as small as a pinhead? That's just a fourth of the resolution but a sensor that is about 1/50th of the size of a full frame DSLR. This means that that small, cheap lens would have to be made to a much higher degree of precision than the big, expensive, professional lens. That's not likely, is it?

5megapixels and 8 megapixels difference?

lumia 920 camera megapixel image

sexyxxy

So I'm switching from windows phone Nokia lumia 710 which has 5mp to iPhone 5 which has 8mp, will I see a clearer and big difference in the pics on the iPhone?

Answer
If you're interested mainly on the photography element of a smartphone, i suggest you go for a Nokia Lumia again but with PureView sensor like the one in 920. Nokia proved its Imaging capabilities to the extent from 5mp to 41mp cam. When it comes to Nokia it doesn't differentiate megapixel ranges, but it focuses greatly on how even a small sensor can take much brilliant pictures on daylight as well as low light @ night.

The difference between 5mp and 8mp camera is,
*pictures will look crisp and clean,
*larger sensor,
*greater point of focus,
*zooming extents,
*better aperture line,
*quality images and videos with greater resolution.

Hope that helps! :)

Is the Nokia Lumina a good phone?

What are it best features? How many megapixels on the camera? What app-store is it equipped with?I asked my mam for a new phone with a good camera and I think she's considering the Nokia Lumina, the Iphone and the Samsung Galaxy S3,but I think she's leaning for this one

Answer
Simply the best!!!!

Screen. 4.5-inches, the Lumia 920 features a PureMotion HD+ display which Nokia boldly claims is the brightest display on the planet

Camera. 8.7-megapixel rear-facing camera with Nokia PureView and Carl Zeiss optics will be able to deliver clear, bright images using floating lens technology and an F2.0 aperture that lets in five times more light than its smartphone compatriots, all without the need for a flash. Itâs also worth mentioning that advanced optical image stabilization will also help reduce those blurry pics

Nokia Maps and City Lens. Nokia Maps, Drive and Transport will be available on the Lumia 920 with a few new features. Nokia Maps now has access to offline mapping content while Nokia Drive now features a voice guided satnav. City Lens augmented browser will display real-time information overlaid onto shops and restaurants as you walk past them on the high street.

Wireless charging, 32GB, 7GB of free SkyDrive storage.

Already got great reviews!

Photography tips for a dark lit environment with moving figures?

I own a Canon 60D DSLR camera and I need to take photos for an upcoming school dance. I would like these photos to cone out as best as possible, but because of the situation, I need tips on how to set up the settings in my camera for the best results.
The dance is very active, and there many moving figures around multicolored/flashing lights in a dark environment.
What settings would help me get the pictures clear, crisp, and not blurry? How would I get the photos to come out with

Answer
First, forget about using your camera's built-in flash except for pictures of individuals or small groups and if you do use it in those situations you'll need to diffuse the flash.

Second, if you can afford either the Canon EF 28mm f1.8 or EF 35mm f2.0 then buy the one you like best after trying them at your local camera store. If you can't afford to buy a new lens then ask if you can rent one. Trying to use the slow, variable aperture zoom lens that came with your camera is going to require a very high ISO so a faster prime lens like the 28mm or 35mm will allow a lower ISO which means reduced digital noise and better image quality. You'll still need a high ISO such as 1600 even with an f1.8 or f2.0 prime lens to achieve a shutter speed fast enough to prevent blur caused by subject motion or camera movement. Since the lenses I'm suggesting are prime lenses with no zoom you'll have to "zoom" with your feet - take a few steps closer to get less in the scene, take a few steps back to get more in the scene. That's how we "zoomed" before zoom lenses were invented.

Third, use your camera's Spot metering setting so the camera's meter isn't trying to calculate exposure for the entire scene. Here are a couple of articles on using spot metering:

http://spotmetering.com/spwhy.htm

http://www.digitalcameraworld.com/2012/05/28/when-to-use-spot-metering

The idea is to meter only your subject(s) and let the background go dark.

As I said earlier, if you decide to use your camera's built-in flash in some situations it will need to be diffused. You can use a piece of tissue or thin white cloth or the "Puffer" from Gary Fong.
http://www.garyfongestore.com/featured-products/puffer-pop-up-flash-diffuser.html Using the flash without some sort of diffusion results in harsh lighting which is not very flattering.

From this review it appears that your camera does fairly well at high ISO values but I still recommend one of the 2 fast prime lenses previously referenced.

http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/E60D/E60DA.HTM

Good luck and hope you share some of your results.

You can do a lot of things with Photoshop, but there are some things it can't fix. Generally you can't make a crappy photo look great, no matter how good you are with Photoshop. The key is to have some photography skills and to start with a high quality photograph.

Where is a good place to buy a dslr camera?

Aaron

So, I've been wanting a dslr camera, but I don't wanna spend a lot of money. What's the difference between a $500 and a $1000 dslr camera besides the price? I'm gonna go on a cruise and a want a high quality but reasonably priced dslr camera? Any suggestions on where to buy it?

Answer
Any entry-level DSLR is capable of producing the high quality photos that you're looking for. BUT, if you don't know how to use the thing properly, your pictures are going to suck regardless of what camera you're using.

The Nikon D3100 and Rebel T3 are currently the least expensive new DSLRs available. For now, just get the 18-55 kit lens.

You'll also need a genuine spare battery, 2 or 3 8GB Class 10 SD cards, an sd card-reader, and a case.

You could purchase the camera from the manufacturers official website or B&H or Adorama.

Just google "canon shop usa" or "nikon shop usa" or "sony shop usa" etc etc

Answer
This is from a similar question I answerd yesterday...

Yes, a successor to the 400D is due in February. It will (most likely) be announced during the PMA show which is held between Jan 31st-Feb 2nd in Las vegas...
The successor (450D?) will probably have at least 12MP and maybe live view.
So you need to be just a little patient ( for about 12-14 days at the very least).

What camera upgrade would be most suitable for portraits?

Hi,

I currently use a Canon EOS 400D with a 50mm 1.8 lens on it.

I get good results however sometimes the images aren't as crisp or I can't achieve the depth of feild that I want.

Any tips on improving my portrait photography would be great. Would anyone recommend any kind of technical upgrades as well? DIfferent lenses or bodies? I'm just wondering :)

Looking forward to hearing your suggestions and tips.
Thanks,
Martin

Answer
I'm afraid to say that if you can't get sharp shots with a shallow depth of field on an APS-C DSLR with f1.8 lens then either the equipment is faulty or the user needs some lessons.

How much money should I budget for Ghost Hunting Gear?

highest megapixel camera phone 2011 image

Becky

I'm discovering some great online ghost hunting stores. Now I'm wondering what people are budgeting for their ghost hunts? How much money is going to get me a good ghost hunt investigation?

Thanks for the help!

Answer
As Iâm sure youâve realized, this depends what you would like to use to âhunt ghosts.â Of course the answer to that depends greatly on what you would like to get out of âghost hunting.â Alright, so enough answering a question with more questions.

The costs begin with free! Thatâs right, I highly recommend those new to the âghost huntingâ field to utilize what they have around the house. Most people have access to a camera, or camera/phone. Obviously the more you spend the more quality your photograph and any potential anomalous data acquired will have. There are some fairly decent entry level digital cameras for sale today (*2012) for around $100 and up. There are a ton of options you will want to familiarize yourself with first. This goes for cameras or some of the more specific tools you see on the ghost hunting TV shows. Having worked with most of the networks and production companies, I can say that what you see on TV isnât always the best direction to go with your own âghost hunting.â

To get straight to your question (too late):
Infrared Thermometer $15
Infrared Thermometer with PC interface and K-Type Probe $250+ (recommend this one)
Digital Camera $15
Digital Camera with glass lens, Infrared illuminators and high Megapixels $150+ (recommend this one)
3D Digital Camera $200+ (recommend this one)
Single Axis EMF Meter $20
Three Axis Data logging pc interface EMF Meter $300+ (recommend this one)
Dowsing rods $20+

Alright so I could go on, but it would be easier to direct you a site that you could click through the store for free (full disclosureâ¦my website). http://GetGhostGear.com Visit there and find a ton of articles with pictures and âas seen on TVâ equipment (as many TV shows have gotten their equipment from me). Become an informed consumer and check out the HUGE and FREE list of ghost hunting equipment here http://getghostgear.com/gear-list-with-images.html

All you have to do is click on the ghost hunting equipment picture, learn more about it, and then click another link there if you want to purchase it. We donât recommend all of the equipment, just for the record so if you want our advice, read the articles first! Iâll include a bio about myself and my background so you know where your information is here is coming from (even if you don't shop from us, know who you are shopping with).

Hope this helps, and start saving those pennies. Get out in the field (safely) first and see what you think you need from there!

Answer
The good: The HTC ThunderBolt offers incredibly fast 4G data speeds. The Android 2.2 smartphone also supports simultaneous voice and data over 3G and boasts a large 4.3-inch touch screen, ample storage, and an excellent camera.

The bad: Battery life takes a big hit when using 4G. There is no way to toggle between 3G and 4G.

The bottom line: The HTC ThunderBolt lights up with blazingly fast data speeds, but those who want 4G now should be aware that it takes a big toll on the smartphone's battery life.

Photo gallery: HTC ThunderBolt (Verizon Wireless)
Photo gallery:
HTC ThunderBolt (Verizon Wireless)

Introduced at CES 2011, the HTC ThunderBolt is Verizon's first 4G LTE, and it's finally available for $249.99 with a two-year contract. The Android 2.2 smartphone might not offer the latest and greatest (e.g., dual-core processor), but with the carrier promising average download speeds of 5Mbps to 12Mbps and upload speeds of 2Mbps to 5Mbps, it's no surprise why many are clamoring to get their hands on this device. This includes us, which is why we were so excited to take the HTC ThunderBolt out for a test-drive. The lightning-fast smartphone delivers on many fronts, but it also comes at a cost.

Design
The HTC ThunderBolt is cut from the same cloth as the HTC Evo 4G and the HTC Desire HD, so if you've ever handled those devices, then you have a fairly good idea of what to expect from the ThunderBolt.

At 4.75 inches tall by 2.44 inches wide by 0.56 inch thick and 6.23 ounces, the ThunderBolt isn't for those who prefer dainty devices. The smartphone is large and actually slightly thicker and heavier than the Evo, but it's manageable and the tapered back and soft-touch finish make it comfortable to hold in the hand. As we've come to expect from HTC, the phone is solidly built and has a nice, premium feel to it.

On front, you've got the same 4.3-inch WVGA (800x480 pixels) touch screen as the Evo. There are higher-resolution displays out there, like those on the Motorola Atrix 4G or iPhone 4, but the ThunderBolt's screen still holds up, with clear and bright picture quality. Text was easy to read, and Web pages and video looked lovely on the large screen.

The touch screen is also responsive. Apps launched as we tapped them, and we were able to smoothly navigate through the home screens and menus. The display also features a proximity sensor and built-in accelerometer, which was quick to change screen orientation when we rotated the phone.

The front-facing camera sits right above the screen on the right; below the display are the home, menu, back, and search navigation buttons. Meanwhile, the 8-megapixel camera and flash are located on back, but we really wish there was a dedicated camera button on the phone. Instead, you'll have to use the touch screen to snap photos.

On the bright side, the ThunderBolt has a sturdy kickstand so you can prop the phone on a desk to watch videos, conduct speakerphone calls, and the like. There's a Micro-USB port on the left side, and a volume rocker occupies the right side. Finally, on top of the device, you'll find a power/lock button and 3.5mm headphone jack.

The HTC ThunderBolt comes packaged with an AC adapter, a USB cable, a preinstalled 32GB microSD card, and reference material.

4G features and performance
Before we get to the phone's more-basic features, we thought we'd address the HTC ThunderBolt's whole raison d'etre, and that's 4G support. As mentioned earlier, the ThunderBolt is the first smartphone to work on Verizon's LTE 4G network, which promises average download speeds of 5Mbps to 12Mbps and upload speeds of 2Mbps to 5Mbps.

Given the impressive results we got using Verizon's LG VL600 LTE USB modem, you'd think we'd be a little more prepared for what we experienced on the ThunderBolt, but we were still blown away by what we saw. It's fast. Real fast.

Running Ookla's Speedtest.net app on the handset yielded some erratic and suspicious results (upload speeds were registering up to 39.79Mbps), so we also measured speeds using the phone as a mobile hot spot and as a tethered modem. With the ThunderBolt connected to our MacBook Pro as a mobile hot spot here in New York, we were able to get average download speeds of 7.41Mbps and upload speeds of 6.56Mbps.

By comparison, the HTC Evo 4G from Sprint averaged 3.42Mbps down and 0.93Mpbs up; the Samsung Galaxy S 4G on T-Mobile averaged 4.17Mbps down and 1.68Mbps up; and the HTC Inspire 4G on AT&T averaged 1.75Mbps down and 0.31Mbps up.

We got even better results when we had the ThunderBolt tethered to our Lenovo T61 ThinkPad. We averaged download speeds of 15.58Mbps and upload speeds of 3.44Mbps.

What kind of camera (and what resolution) do you need to make a movie theater standee size/quality print?

The printing itself won't be a problem for me; I have several options withing walking distance. I'm just wondering how feasible it would be for me to rent/buy such a camera to make a portfolio presentation.

Answer
You don't necessarily need something monstrous with a ton of megapixels - photographers have been creating photos for up to billboard-size with cameras like the Canon 1Ds Mark I, the Nikon D1X and other, relatively low-megapixel cameras for years now.

There are a couple keys: you need a great original image that doesn't require much, if any cropping (RAW would be great, but JPEG is fine).

The biggest thing is figuring out what the final resolution needs to be - a movie standee that's six or eight feet tall is designed to be viewed at a much greater distance than an 8x10 print hanging on the wall, so it doesn't need to printed at 200 or 300 dpi; it may need something more like 75-100 dpi, or possibly even lower.

Obviously, if there's something with fine detail in the picture that needs to be reproduced, you'll need a finer resolution, but check with your printer first.

Also, you can always interpolate up your images - if you shoot RAW, the RAW converter that came with your camera frequently allows you to import the file at a larger file size, but there are plenty of software options for interpolation. Genuine Fractals is probably the best of them.

If you already have a DSLR with 8-10 megapixels, you're totally set; if you really want a ton of extra detail, rent yourself a 1Ds or 1Ds Mark II or a 5D.

How can one display an image that has a greater resolution than the screen ?

LvL60_Warl

What exactly is a resolution ? Can one view images with resolutions greater than the resolution of the screen ? How does the megapixel of the digital camera relate to the image resolution and image quality ? There's a new mobile from nokia coming with a 41mp camera , what would the screen resolution be of the photos taken from that camera ? Could one view it on a full hd screen ?

Please clear my doubts. I will choose a best answer.

Thanks !

Answer
Lets say you have an image that is 4000x3000 (12 megapixels)
And you view the whole photo on a screen with resolution 1000 x 750. (1.75 megapixels)

The screen simply displays a grid of horizontal and vertical lines formed from every 4th line of pixels or averages out every group of 16 into a single pixel.

What is the best HD DSLR Camera to shoot a short movie?

Calvin Red

Im going to shoot my first short movie. But rental charges for DSLR Camera are a bit to much. Plus I can take my time instead of rushing back to rental. I want to know what is the best HD DSLR camera to shoot. Also if it can speed and slow down the fps. And also which one has the most lenses so i can have the option of changing the shot and feel.

Answer
The absolute best is the Canon 5D MkII. The second best (and better than the 5D in some ways) is a Panasonic GH2. If you want to stick with Canon, the T3i is respectable enough.

Nikon still doesn't get it when it comes to video-enabled DSLRs. Maybe with the D7100, D400, and D800 they will be more videographer-friendly, but they aren't that great.

How Much and Where could I rent a DSLR Camera - Chino Hills?

Philosophi

Looking to rent a DSLR Camera around the Chino Hills Area.

Nothing too extravagant or amazing; just something sufficient enough. How much do you think it'd cost (with lens and everything) for a one day rental? And where could I find such a place?

Thanks!

Answer
All you have to do is look in the Yellow pages for Cameras, and start calling the stores to see if they rent. If no stores are listed under cameras, see if there is a Ritz or Wolfe store in the White pages. They would probably be the only ones who would do this.

If you do find such a store, I'm pretty sure they will require a hefty deposit, or a credit card to insure the camera will be returned in excellent condition.

Just remember, you can't learn all you need to know in one day, or expect to get outstanding pictures just because it's a DSLR. It all depends on your skill as a photographer, too.

I want to buy the right memory card for my canon SD890 IS 10 megapixel camera?

I just bought a Canon 10 megapixel camera and i want to know which memory card will give me the best results. I have a 1gb and a 2.0 gb. Does it really matter? or is there one even better than this. That will accommodate my 10 megapixel camera.

Answer
It doesn't really matter what capacity card you have, as long as it's enough capacity for your needs. Cards are very cheap these days, so you can buy several if you need to.
What matters most though, is that you use a fairly high speed card, because your camera (even though it's only compact) really does take advantage of a fast SD card.
So, if you're not using one already, I would recommend the very popular, Sandisk Extreme III or similarly fast card.

What relationship does megapixel rating have with image quality?

Jared

Hi,
I am about to purchase my first DSLR, and I am noticing that nikon has a 24 megapixel (D3200) for 550 dollars at my best buy. Their better and more expensive model, however, only has a 16 megapixel rating (D5100.) Cannon also has options... with a slightly higher megapixel rating and a slightly better camera as you go down the line. How worried should I be about megapixel rating? I won't really ever be printing over 11x14's.
With a higher Megapixel rating, Will that provide the ability to print a larger image without seeing the fuzzy dots that make up the digital image? Does image quality in a more expensive camera sometimes trump a large megapixel number in a cheaper camera?
Thanks a heap.

Answer
megapixels are not a measure of image quality.

the marketing teams of camera companies push the numbers higher and higher only to sell cameras.

Don't fall for the large print myth. People here give advice as if everyone were going to print up big billboard photos.

12-16MP is enough for anybody not making money selling large gallery prints.

When you add pixels, you must pay a price, there is no free lunch. The 3200, 5200 and 7100 take a hit in low light at high ISO vs a lower pixel count sensor. So you have to weigh the feature set of each camera, along with the image sensor.

Lastly, don't fall for anyone posting links to DxOmark.com. Those up front numbers don't tell the truth, you have to dig into the data to get the real performance of the image sensor. The D3200 sensor, when you see the real numbers, is no better than the old D3000.

The real champs when it comes to APS-C image sensors, when you see the real data are the Fuji X100 and the Pentax K5 II.

Shoot in RAW format, keep your ISO low, and with 16 MP, you can go really big if you need to.

Why can't I find an Android Camera app that lets me control exposure?

dslr camera app

dslr camera app image

John

I can't fathom why I'm unable to find a single Android camera app that allows manual exposure control. Is there a hardware limitation that prevents the shutter speed from changing or something?

The built in Android camera actually has 7 different exposure settings (+/- 6) but if you're using the flash, it seems to completely ignore these settings. I'm quite frustrated, all I want to do is take decent pictures without having to pull out my DSLR for simple things such as ebay auctions, but I can't! Half of the pictures taken with the native Android camera app are either over exposed if I use the flash, or blurred if I try to take it in low light settings. Or if I have it setting still, the image is filled with noise (from an ISO setting that's too high I'm assuming).

I'm not asking or even expecting to be able to do everything with an android camera that I can with a DSLR, all I'm asking for is actual exposure control of some sort.

So is there an actual good reason as to why no android app exist that allows one to do this? I've found a few that claim it, but none of the ones I've tried actually had the feature. Most of the apps just go on and on about effects. :\

Thanks!

Can I use an iPad as an external monitor when I'm shooting with my DSLR?

edmezamex

So I am shooting a video with DSLR and I was wondering if I can connect an iPad to my DSLR camera (Canon t3i) and use it as an external monitor with an HDMI cable or something. I am not interested in using the Air Display app method because that only works under Wi-Fi. I plan to do a lot of shooting outdoors in big dead spots.

Answer
With a PC you use the EOS control software supplied with the camera and connect using USB. It works very well with my small LApTop. It allows full live view on the monitor, time lapse and allows full control of most functions on the camera.

Not sure if the iPad can run that software. Contact Canon to enquire if it will.

What digital camera and/or accessories would work best to put pictures on Ebay?

Answer
E bay has limits on how large the photo file you upload can be .
You may have to down convert the pictures of many good cameras to make a full sized picture fit into their specifications.
More resolution (higher Megapixels per picture) is better than not enough.
A flash is necessary too.
And do you have a card reader, or will it connect directly the computer (USB or what version Windows is compatible?)
E-bay probably has a web page on how to required specs, and how to set up for an acceptable shoot and how to spiff up those not so great shots.
Having an area that is dedicated for the purpose and conducive to good natural lighting would help greatly for best results.
Utilize a background that is NOT distracting, one that adds a nice contrast, even compliments the product.
>this IS advertising, show off the product the best you can<
Look for similar products, and notice how they are presented.
If you see some products that look great (are shown in their best light>pun), contact the seller and ask how they were shot>it can't hurt!

Answer
The cameras in the iPad really are not fully adjustable. You need a dSLR to have those controls.

What I do like about the iPad is how it records video. If it had a tripod mount, it would be sweet.

Is there anyway to record video with a dslr camera and record with a lets say, Blue company mic?

anna

I want to start posting covers on youtube. I want to use my future to be. nikon d5100 dslr camera but use a preferably company, blue mic. Is that possible??? I dont have a mac for now. And my computers camera is very poor. Any suggestions/answers???

Answer
Most DSLRs that record video have a jack to allow for mic input too.

Or you can use a separate audio recorder like they have done for more than 100 years in the film world.

The key is to have something that is instantaneous, visual, AND audible. The classic tool for this is the movie slate board (or clapper), there is a $25 ipod app for this, or go analog with one like this...http://ticklespop.com/holmovfildir.html

Or simply clap your hands together in a deliberate fashion.

The slate gives a visual mark on the video, and an audible mark on the audio recorder. Then you just simply alight the audio track to the video track with editing software.
