Include GPS data when exporting photo to iPhone?

Dennis

I have a DSLR camera that records GPS data. I import and edit my photos in Lightroom 4 and I can see the GPS data, including the photos displayed on the map.
I export the photos I liked and synced those to my iPhone. I would like these photos to show up in the 'places' in the photo app, just like photos that I took with my iPhone, but for whatever reason they don't.
I checked the EXIF info in the exported files and the GPS data is there.
What can I do to fix is?

Answer
I'm not totally sure about this but that feature should work if you used the iPhone's camera. When importing pictures from another camera, you may have to sweat it out a little first.

http://mactips.info/2009/04/gps-tells-iphone-and-iphoto-roughly-where-they-are

If you are not on a Mac, you can use any EXIF editing program for that purpose. Maybe Lightroom can do that too.

There there is the issue about OS version but since the feature is relatively old already this may no longer be your case.

APP QUESTION! What is a good photography application for iphone?

Kylee

I had this app where you could choose what type of picture you wanted to take... like take it in black and white, negative, vibrant, stuff like that. I don't want an app where you change the picture already taken before, i want one where it changes the picture as you take it. Please help.

Answer
I can't get this question (about iphone), but it seems the app. you are looking for is the same app. that is known to the world as DSLR camera.

Will the iphone 6 have an 11 megapixel camera?

Jose David

Answer
your early thing about the iPhone 6 there will be a iPhone 5? first. apple would be still at mid development so it early for speculation to start to spread. i would say the iPhone 5? will have a better camera, new processor and NFC. it will have the same design and will ship with iOS 7. these are my expectations the camera will be better if they win the kodak patents.

IPhone camera question.?

nellies_sm

I know there are no settings, but I know people who swear there iPhone camera works as well as there fancy cameras. But apl my pictures are very grainy. They are in focus just don't look as clear as other camera pictures. I think even my old phone took better pictures. Does any one else have this same problem or any solutions?

Answer
The iphone camera will never beat a professional camera.
Megapixels are what make your picture clear and not "grainy". The iPhone 4 has a 5 megapixel camera, and my personal camera has 12 megapixels. It's just not possible for it to be better than a digital camera. Even the cheap ones have more than 5 megapixels.

Opinions and deals on DSLR cameras?

randomchic

I am in need of a new camera for a a digital photography class no more than $500. I plan so save up and buy a better camera in the future.

I need a dslr camera that that I can change the Shutter, Aperature and ISO on.

What are your opinions on what camera to get?

What are your opinions on where to get the best deals and what kind of camera to get?

I personally like Cannon cameras. So what models do you suggest?

Answer
Entry level DSLRs are the Canon Rebel T3 or the Nikon D3100 - both just about in your budget.

Stick with Nikon or Canon if you expect to get the bug. They have a better defined upgrade paththat means you won't have to ditch all your lenses when you want a new body.

I'm planning to buy the kodak EASYSHARE P712 Zoom Digital Camera... is it an SLR camera?

and what can you say about the specs??

Lens 36â432 mm (35 mm equiv.) f/2.8â3.7 SCHNEIDER-KREUZNACH VARIOGON Lens

Shutter speed 16â1/1000 sec. in 1/3 step increments

ISO sensitivity auto; 64/80/100/125/160/200/250/320/400/800**

Answer
No, it is not a SLR strictly speaking. The key is the discription "SLR-like". SLR implies interchangeable lenses.

Kodak stopped making DSLR's a while ago, although some can still be found. The last one made was the Kodak DCS SLR/n which uses Nikon lenses.

Canon and Nikon make the most popular DSLR's among professionals. Other DSLR's include Pentax, Olympus, Sony Fujifilm and Sigma.

Iphone 5, Samsung Galaxy S3 or Nokia lumia 920?

Michael

Ive seen tons of information of Iphone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S3 but im still looking for information on the Nokia Lumia 920.
ive found really bad errors on iphone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S3 and that makes me back up to buy one of these phones. its the overheating, screen doesn't work, bugs on calls, purple pictures...
I saw the Nokia Lumia 920 and it looks nice will it be better then Iphone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S3?

Answer
First things first Michael, i'm bringing you an unbiased answer (owned an 4th gen itouch, zune hd, htc arrive (windows phone), and a lg optimus). the links i use are also fair, balanced and far from biased..

Trust me when i say, you will have NO regrets going with the Lumia 920. I'm going go the distance and break it down to 3 elements.

#1. Hardware: Lumia 900 alone is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to hardware. Gorilla glass screen, Polycarbonate body (Really strong material). I've seen people drop it face down multiple times, take a hammer to and it does no damage/scratches at all! (hell my htc arrive survived a billion drops, though there were MINOR scratches, no damage). The 920 is bringing back that polycarbonate nearly indestructible body, but this time using Advanced Gorilla glass. No way in hell your breaking this phone (unless you beam it at the ground from a 2nd story window)

#2. Features: Super sensitive screen (you can ever use your fingernail or gloves to navigate!), PureMotion HD+ display (Way better then your average HD screen, It can be viewed with no glare in even the brightest of sunlight! possibly the best on the market!), 8.7 megapixel Camera that uses PureView technology, Optical Image Stabilisation and Carl Zeiss lens (no "possibly", it IS the best on the market). Among those "Super" features there is wireless charging ability, and really cool nokia exclusive apps that are sure to WOW you when your out in about in a city which involves that amazing camera.

Link to see the display & camera in action - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGDyxYsiRE4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJl-pvfqPNM

and last but not least #3. OS - Windows phone 7 may not have gotten the proper publicity (i blaim poor advertising), but it's ride or die time and they are going Harder then ever with Windows phone 8 OS adding onto 7's style with advanced features. There is no way to get information from your life in a faster and more intuitive way then from the windows phone OS's Livetiles. It's the one OS i feel is trying to revolve around "You" and your life and not itself and it's features. Though it's low on apps (approx. 150,000+ in the marketplace) it's growing and reached it's 100,000 milestone mark quicker then andriod and if they keep that speed/momentum going it will reach where andriod and iphone is in 2-3 years (depending on the dedication of developers). Their really is only a small handful of REALLY good apps that windows phone doesn't have (Yet!). It's truly different then any other OS you've ever used and you won't get that cloned feeling with anything! (Including apps which uses unique panoramic features that makes even the apps feel more alive!)

Link to quick info on the windows phone OS - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWyz2vbH6Sw&feature=related
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?p=22999465 (the vids are at the TOP!)

Again, this is all for you to decide Michael. I'm just sharing what i've experienced over the course of 4 years and nothing has come close to owning a windows phone.

Best of luck to w/e phone you choose friend and i hope you let us know!

What are the features or review of Nokia Lumia 930?

Rownak

I want the price and review of Nokia Lumia 930.

Answer
Hello Friend, below I have given a review of Nokia Lumia 930:

Nokia showed up at Microsoftâs Build 2014 conference with a new flagship smartphone in tow, the Lumia 930. If youâre thinking this phone looks a bit familiar, youâd be right as itâs essentially the international version of the Lumia Icon.

Unveiled by former (and soon to be again) Microsoft employee Stephen Elop, the device features a 5-inch display operating at 1,920 x 1,080 pixels good for a pixel density of 441. Itâs coated in a protective layer of Gorilla Glass 3 and features technology from Synaptics so you can use it while wearing gloves.

Inside is a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SoC ticking along at 2.2GHz, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of flash memory and a 2420mAh battery good for up to 18 days of standby and 15.5 hours of talk time. Naturally, it'll be mated with Windows Phone 8.1.

Elsewhere is the same 20-megapixel camera from the Icon which is certainly no slouch. It features an f/2.4 Zeiss lens, optical image stabilization and dual LED flashes. A total of four microphones are used to capture audio when recording video in up to 1080p resolution at 30 frames per second.

The Lumia 930 will retail for $599 sans contract and will arrive with metallic edges and a colored back panel in your choice of black, white, green or orange. Itâll be available starting in June in Europe, Nokia said. Unfortunately the phone wonât be making the trip across the pond but thatâs alright as those in the US already have access to the Lumia Icon and the Lumia 1520.

which brand of DSLR camera should i buy?

cody c

i am a growing photographer and am hoping to broaden my horizons. i take a lot of nature and close-up pictures. i am trying to get enough money to buy my own this year but don't know of which brand i should go with. i am leaning towards the nikon, but my aunt trusts the canon more. i am only looking to spend around $500-$700 at most. i want a good quality camera with at least 10 or 12 megapixels and tons of options for the type of photography i do. any help and advice is welcome. thanks! (and if you have any other brands that you think i should consider, don't hesitate.)

Answer
Take a serious look at the Sony A330. It has Live View that actually works with the auto focus. This is a good feature to have for macro photography. Its also handy in a crowded situation since you can flip the screen down and then hold the camera over your head, look up at the screen, compose and shoot. Its also nice to have if your subject is at ground level.

Any legacy Minolta Maxxum AF lens made since 1985 is compatible with the Sony DSLR line. You can find a Maxxum AF 100mm f2.8 macro lens on eBay quite often. This is an excellent lens for your close-up photography. Since Sony has their version of Image Stabilization (IS) in the camera body that 24 yr. old macro lens becomes an IS lens. How cool is that? Nikon and Canon can't say that since they chose to put the IS in some of their lenses.

Sony A330 w/18-55mm & 55-200mm lenses $799.99 - $200.00 "Instant Savings" = $599.99 at B&H.

Sony A330 w/18-55mm lens $599.99 - $50.00 "Instant Savings" = $549.99 at B&H.

The "Instant Savings" offer expires on Dec. 19, 2009.

Which DSLR camera should I buy?

Kameron G

I am looking into buying a DSLR camera and I am not sure what to buy. I need a camera that is for a beginner but still has good quality. I like the Canon EOS Rebel T1i EF-S, The Nikon D5100, and The Nikon D3100. I don't want to spend over $900 on the camera though. Do you have any recommendations? Thanks! :)

Answer
The Nikon D3100 and D5100 do not have a focusing motor in the camera body. This means that you must use the more expensive Nikon AF-S lenses if you want auto focus. One example: The Nikon AF 50mm f1.8 prime lens is about $140.00 but will NOT auto focus on the D3100 or D5100. The new Nikon AF-S 50mm f1.8 prime lens that will auto focus on those bodies is about $220.00 - an $80.00 difference. The Nikon D90 which is being discontinued has a focusing motor in the camera body as does its replacement the D7000.

Since Canon has released the T3i that's probably a good indication that the T1i will soon be discontinued.

I suggest taking a look at the Sony SLT A55. This DSLR has technology and features not found on any comparably-priced DSLR. It has Sony's Translucent Mirror Technology which allows for full-time continuous auto focus whether you're shooting still images or 1080p HD video. This technology also allows shooting at 10fps (frames per second). The SLT A55 has 2D or 3D Sweep Panorama as well as in-camera HDR. It also has a built-in GPS. To add GPS to a Nikon will cost you an additional $244.90 above and beyond the price of the camera. The A55 has a focusing motor in the camera body so all the legacy Minolta Maxxum AF lenses made since 1985 can be used on it and will auto focus as they should. The A55 also has Sony's version of Image Stabilization in the camera body so a Maxxum AF 70-210mm f4 zoom will not only auto focus on the A55 but will also be an IS lens.

Here are some reviews of the SLT A55:

http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/cameras/sony-a55-preview.shtml

http://www.digitalphotographywriter.com/2010/08/sony-slt-a55-review-translucent-mirror.html

Here are current prices from B&H http://www.bhphotovideo.com

Canon T1i w/18-55mm zoom lens $669.00

Nikon D5100 w/18-55mm zoom lens $849.95 after a $50.00 Instant Savings from B&H. Ends 6-25-2011.

Nikon D90 w/18-105mm zoom lens $1,099.95 but Temporarily Out of Stock. No date as to when or if it will be available.

Nikon D7000 w/18-105mm zoom lens $1,499.95. Also Out of Stock.

Sony SLT A55 w/18-55mm zoom lens $799.99 after a $50.00 Instant savings from B&H. Ends 7-9-2011.

In my opinion the Sony SLT A55 simply offers more features and benefits and the latest technology for the money.

how does a digital camera work?

vlw101

Answer
The operation of a digital camera, from the standpoint of the user, is virtually the same as the operation of a 35mm camera. Most digital cameras imitate their older film cousins very well, so a new digital user has little to fear in the operation of the camera.

If you are used to a point-and-shoot, or even an SLR (single lens reflex) 35mm camera, then you will be able to find a digital camera to meet your experience level. If you stay within the same brand of cameras as your current 35mm, you will find that the digital cameras of that manufacturer work about the same as their film cameras.

The biggest difference in the operation of the camera is in the storage medium, and number of images made between changes. For instance, with a 35mm camera, you can have a maximum of about 36 exposures before you have to rewind the film, open the back, and insert another film roll. With digital you might be able to shoot hundreds of images before changing your "digital film". Most digital cameras use a small memory card that inserts into a slot in the camera body. Usually it will be behind a small door on the side or bottom of the camera. The camera manual will explain the process well enough to get started.

When you take a picture with a digital camera the light strikes a digital sensor array, instead of a piece of film. These digital sensors are computer "chips" with names like CCD, CMOS, Foveon, or others. They take the place of a piece of film that must be moved across the focal plane of the camera. The digital sensor is made of millions of tiny sensor points called "pixels," which is short for "picture elements." They are laid out in an array with rows and columns, like in a computer spreadsheet or wall calendar. For instance, my camera has an array of sensors in its CCD that is 3008 horizontally, and 2000 pixels vertically (3008x2000). If you do a simple mathematical formula on the pixel array size you will come up with the "Megapixel" rating of the camera. This is the number that most manufacturers use to sell the camera. The simple formula 3008x2000 = 6,016,000 shows that my camera has over six million pixels, or is a "six megapixel" camera.

Think of megapixels as millions of dots of light that are being stored for each picture. The more dots of light there are, the higher the resolution of the image. More pixel dots = bigger pictures. Usually, the more megapixels the better! It takes a lot of megapixels to make prints on photo paper, so it would be best to get a camera with as many megapixels as you can afford.

When the image strikes the sensor, it gets all those megapixels excited. First the image goes through color filters above the individual sensors. The sensor converts the image from light waves into an analog electrical signal. The analog signal is then run through an analog to digital converter (A-D Converter), where it becomes a pure digital signal. Then it is again put through a series of electronic filters that adjust the white balance, color, and aliasing of the image. Next a compression cycle makes the image as small as possible by dumping unnecessary pixels, for more efficient storage. Now the camera has a nice compressed, filtered, digital signal representing your image.

The image is then transferred into a temporary storage area inside the camera called "buffer memory," or simply the "buffer." When the buffer is full, the image is written out to your storage media, such as a memory card. The buffer size in the camera is an important thing. It tells how many images you can take in quick succession. If you have a tiny buffer in your camera, you will have to wait a bit after you take several images.

In fact, the main thing that drives the cost up on digital cameras is the number of megapixels, and the size of the memory buffer. Most cameras have a reasonable amount of both, so you needn't worry. Even if you can only afford a very inexpensive digital camera, you will still have nice images, you just might be limited in their maximum size on photo paper, and will have to wait a bit when taking images quickly. Almost any digital camera is capable of taking pictures for display on the Internet, or for sending across the Internet as email. Images on the Internet are very low resolution -- about 72 to 100 dots per inch -- so any quality digital camera will be capable of making beautiful images for display there.

Camera advice (recently bought new camera&want to change it maybe)?

H.P x

I bought the Olympus X43 Digital camera yesterday, and i was trying it out today and it makes all the images either very orange or very white and heavily contrasted. I bought the camera mainly due to the good zoom&megapixels however, it is terrible in my opinion.

I bought this camera for the soul purpose of music concerts&messing around with friends&family, therefore if i change the camera I will need one with a good zoom&which works well inside.

I only have £60 as a budget

i need this camera for more casual things because taking around SLR isn't always practical

So two questions

1) Is there anything I can do with the Olympus to make the images come out better
2) If not, what is a good camera ffor £60

Thank you

Answer
Very orange pix are usually caused by taking the pic lit by incandescent light bulbs (the old fashioned kind). Adjust White Balance can fix this.

amazon.co.uk has several cameras within your budget

Among those, I'd look very closely at the Canon and Nikon cameras. I'd also consider the Kodak ones.

P.S. any DSLR can capture a photo like the one you linked to, provide you have the right macro lens for it, the right lighting and YOU know what you're doing.

About video: Many still cameras have video functions, and especially the DSLRs with video produce decent enough results. However, if video is important to you, you are MUCH better off with a camcorder.
At this point in time, they still do a much better job (and are much more user-friendly) at video and audio recording than still cameras can.

DSLR Camera?

deepti k

I am an student in advertising... and looking for good DSLR camera.
My requirement is of course low priced but better offers.
I found this camera "Olympus Evolt E-410 10-Megapixel Digital SLR 2-Lens Kit" and was reasonably priced as compared to other brands and also offered an extra lens...I am now confused what to do or which camera to buy..
kindly suggest.

Answer
Check with your instructors when it comes to the photography aspect of advertising.

Most cameras used in advertising photography are medium format or larger cameras.

That said, you have picked a DSLR that has the smallest sensor of any of them. If after your research, you still want to buy a DSLR, look to the full frame DSLR's.

Kodak, Nikon and Canon have these.

Kodak -- DCS SLR/n or DCS SLR/c (used)
Nikon -- D3
Canon -- 5D or 1Ds, Mark III

Answer
Canon T3 is the perfect camera for you! It is the most Popular entry level dslr and for a good reason! It has a 12.2 mp sensor allowing for very high quality images. It shoots full he video. It costs 499$ on amazon, 415$ on eBay. Has an interchangeable lense so you can swap out lenses for certain shots, and many more features! This would be the best camera for your price and your talent!

Best brand for a DSLR camera?

Dazzling b

I really like photography and I want to buy a dslr camera. I am a beginner so I need an easy, lightweight, cheap yet excellent camera with a fast shuttter speed and crystal clear resolution? So what is the best brand and what is the best store I can buy one at?

Answer
With buying DSLR's, you generally want to buy the best that you can afford.

The entry level DSLRs offered by Canon and Nikon will not only give you excellent lens selections in their respective brands, they are lightweight, and relatively inexpensive.

Even though these entry-level DSLR's can reach shutter speeds of 1/4000 of a second, or faster, the photo will only be as good as how much light hits that little sensor. and that light is only as good as the glass it's traveling through. In other words, quality lenses are paramount to creating "crystal clear" images. This may take the "cheap" out of the equation, save for the 50mm f/1.8 lenses offered by both of these companies. These lenses are usually under $100, but are built as such. Good lenses can cost upwards of $2000 (some even adding another 0 for the super-telephotos).

I would recommend you read some books on DSLR's, or maybe some forums such as photo.net and canon/nikon user forums. Start out with a body, a good QUALITY lens (not a body/lens kit, as the kit lens tends to leave MUCH to be desired). and throw in one of the 50/1.8 to get the low-light, blurry background shots. Prime lenses usually make you work a little harder, and think a little harder to create your photographs...

As for purchasing, I usually buy from B&H, Adorama, or Amazon (all online, BEST prices, no sales tax!).

Good luck!

Best Digital Camera.......?

Tibby

So a couple months ago I went spelunking and was told I could bring my camera along but in a ziplock bag. I guess I didn't think about it because meanwhile we were climbing up 40 feet and well let's just say I sat on my camera and the lens part got pushed in. I've had the camera for awhile so I don't think I can send it in and get it repaired. I get the "lens error" and well... I just need another camera soon.

I am now pregnant and want to have a nice camera (other than my phone) to take pictures not only of myself but of places too, because I travel.
I am looking for nothing too fancy.. just a nice digital camera that is best for taking shots of things in the open (like scenery) and also that would be great for having a pregnancy shoot or just any pix in general.
Something not too expensive either. Under $500 ( that doesn't mean I'm wanting a bunch of cameras priced at $450 lol .. I just need options and descriptions..
A camera (digital) that you have used before or have a friend that has used one and you were pleased with the photos and settings.

As you can probably tell .. I do not know much about cameras and I'll most likely go to a store and just ask them about it.. but wanted to see what others would suggest for me.

Thanks

It needs a good camera.

Holds lots of music

Easy text messegeing set up

big screen, maybe even a touch screen..

nothing over $300 thanks !

i was looking at the lg Ku990 veiwty, but i heard the camera wasnt very good. :\
what do you think ??

Answer
there are 12.1 megapixel cameras on high end touchscreen mobile phones, although they are more expensive then $300.

i would suggest the new samsung ultratouch if you want a touchscreen phone, with an 8 megapixel camera. although i think they are around 500. just to show how good 8 megapixels is, iPhones, one of the best phones on the markets, have 3 megapixel camera.

its hard to get a good cheap phone that your asking for

go to www.phonearena.com and click on 'filter' on the left hand column. then you select the features you would like, and they narrow down to the phones with those features. then they give you the retail price.

good luck.

What's the best DSLR camera and lens for filming at a good price?

Logo

I'm only 14 so make sure it's not too much. I make videos like freddiew:
http://www.youtube.com/user/freddiew/videos?view=0
I didn't just ask for a camera, I also said lens. And stop correcting me on filming, that's not what I asked and dlsrs are used in filming all the time freddiew uses t2i's and 7d's and stuff sooooo...

Answer
First, a DSLR shoots video, not film.

Second, this is almost impossible to answer since "... at a good price." isn't a budget.

In my opinion the Sony SLT a37k with the 18-55mm zoom is your most economical choice. This camera uses Sony's Translucent Mirror Technology which allows for full-time continuous phase-detect auto focus whether you're shooting still images or full 1080p video.

Its shown for $598.00 at B&H - http://www.bhphotovideo.com - but there is a $100.00 'Instant Savings' from B&H that ends 02-09-2013 which makes it $498.00. There simply isn't a Nikon or Canon in that price range that can do what the a37k does. Here is a review:

what is the best DSLR camera for HD video 100-170$ ?

Silas

I am looking for A DSLR camera that shoots HD quality video for up to 180$ I see alot of lowpriced DSLR camera's at walmart, and Target, but what model is the best in that price range.

Answer
There is no "dSLR" at that price. Only "point & shoot" that looks like a dSLR. The lens is not changeable. Manual controls are more than a pocket point & shoot, less than a dSLR.

These cameras - and dSLRs and point & shoot are designed to capture still images. Video capture is a secondary "convenience feature". This does not mean they cannot capture good video - when used properly, they can - but they are not camcorders and cannot be treated like one. Prolonged video capture can cause the camera to overheat - and it takes a long time to cool down. Most record mono-audio.

Camcorders are designed for video capture - and as long as there is space on the memory card and power available, capturing video continues - and no issue with the camcorder overheating. Most also record stereo audio. Capturing still images a secondary "convenience feature". This does not mean they cannot capture good stills - when used properly, they can - but they are not dSLRs or bridge cameras or even point & shoot cameras and should not be treated like one.

When you get a tool for a specific application it is best to get it for its primary design purpose. When you get the tool for a secondary design, expect to use work-arounds or plan on having problems.

I want to buy a DSLR camera, but am not able to decide which one to buy.?

Q. I have just started learning photography from a very reputed institute. My budget is 40000 INR which can be stretched to 45K to the max. My confusion is if I go for an entry-level DSLR, i will get very basic set of function in the camera, but on the other hand, I can buy another lens like (sigma 18-200) and accesories (a remote and tripod) within that budget. If i go for a mid-range camera, then i will have to be satisfied with the standard kit lens that comes (18-55 mm) and might be able to squeeze in a tripod within the specified budget.

I also thought of buying used equipment as an option, but I do not consider it a safe one.

Kindly advise me on this one...

Answer
For my first camera I got a Canon 1000D,
Reasonably basic but a good camera.
Not TOO basic that there's not much you can do with it but not TOO complicated you don't know how to work it.

I paid $1050.00 AU
Got the twin lens kit, camera bag and an SD card.

What I suggest you do first is decide what brand you prefer.
I did a lot of research on Canon and Nikon.

You can find many sites with reviews.

As for equipment, you can find a lot of brand new tripods ect on eBay and online stores like that.
Buying via eBay is reasonably safe, you can read all the feedback that other buyers have left and decide if you can trust that they are selling good quality items.

Hope this helps

Anyone know any specifics about this security camera?

Adam

I'm looking at a 700TVL Indoor/Outdoor Vandal Proof Dome Camera 130ft IR (Infrared), 2.8mm-12mm lens, Sony Effio 12V for a friend of mine. I cant seem to find out anything about he megapixels on it.

Anyone who knows what the MP on this camera, please help me out.

Answer
You did not tell us which manufacturer or the label on it.

That is because video resolution is not measure using "megapixels". That is a resolution measurement used for still images. Video resolution is measured using horizontal row count. In this case, 700 TV lines... without knowing which camera, there is no way to know whether is is capable of high definition or standard definition video - and we also need to know if the video will be transported over coax cable or using an IP network. Knowing the "megapixel count" is only on small piece of information related to resolution and potential video quality... the video compression used, cabling system and several other factors need to be known, too.

For residential installations, I use Swann or Lorex cameras. If the camera is less than about $150, expect it to fail in about 6 months. I've burned through the cheap stuff on eBay and the low-end at cameras from several places in a couple of months. The slightly more expensive Lorex and Swann cams just keep working...

Little help with Survelliance Camera Choices?

Nubian Kin

Well a friend of mine owns a bar, and there has been a quite of few car burlgaries in his lot. I am thinking of letting him borrow a few grand to help him get a few security cameras. We have been on the internet and there are so many choices. He is not looking to go all military or nothing just a normal setup. We are looking at some dome camera, and some bullet cameras. All of the images we have seen online have been pretty good but it is hard to tell at what distances the images are from. Basically, how good is the average camera at a distance of 20-50ft in a dark area. (limited light) These cameras will not be monitored so no one will be zooming in on activity or anything like that. Are cameras even able to get a good image, like facial features at night from an average distance. I know lighting will be a factor, but what is the average capability of a security camera at night. Even the images on tv you see are rarly good enough to see who the person actually is. You can see the activity but I have yet to see to many that you can look at the image and say yea that is the guy. Any people with expierence in this your comments are appreciated. Remeber these cameras we are looking at do not have zoom capabilities they are just the ones you mount on top of a building or on a pole in the lot.

Answer
Your friend needs to look for a high megapixel security camera system. They have excellent limited light capabilities and at least you can zoom in on the image and distinguish actual facial features.

Take a look here for example:
http://www.iqeye.com/IQadvantages.html

The video you typically see on the news is absolutely useless. It's a blob for a face, and unless the criminal is so stupid that they wear some kind of logo clothing or has very obvious features, you will never be able to identify them.

The company at that link has some awesome demonstration videos showing actual crimes recorded by their cameras. And you can zoom in on the perp's faces and it's as clear as a line-up. They also have good examples of night vison superiority.

Higher megapixel security systems are a little more expensive, but they actually perform the job for which they were intended. If you have a low-res image, sure, you can see the action... but it is completely useless for actually identifying and apprehending the criminal.

High megapixel security has even worked to pick up the license plates on vehicles fleeing the scene! And you do not need zoom in capability on the camera because the image resolution is so sharp you can easily zoom in on the existing image.

Definitely check it out.

How much is a DSLR camera on Black Friday?

lalala.

I really need a new camera, and i figure a DSLR would be my best bet but they're so expensive. So i was wondering if the price would go down any on black friday

Answer
matters what camera, first of all.

DSLR prices are pretty static. Instead of actually discounting the camera, retailers will probably bundle up a camera, lens, memory card, bag, and cleaning supplies, and mark the total down by $100 or so.

Do "fancy" DSLR cameras usually go on sale on Black Friday?

Amy Miller

I've been wanting/looking into the Canon t3i DSLR camera (with lens) which is priced at $600 (well, $599 to be exact) but I was wondering, do things like that even go on sale for Black Friday? If so, do you know about how much they go on sale for?

I'm just wondering if it's actually worth waiting until Black Friday to purchase the camera or not...

Answer
As DSLR cameras go, the Canon T3i is probably about the least "fancy" one about. It's a basic, bog-standard beginners DSLR.

Black Friday is just yet another sales ploy. It's just a way of shifting cheap tat and previous generation electronics that most people don't really want. You will get discounts on old electronics which have been superseded, stuff that the retailers have overstocked on and specially bought in cheap goods that you wouldn't buy at any other time of the year, but rarely anything that is current and popular.

Sometimes retailers will push prices up just before Black Friday so that you see a price drop and an apparent bargain on the day, but it's rare to get a real bargain on anything that is both current and popular.

You might be lucky, but I really don't expect to see a significant drop on the T3i or any other current, popular DSLR until the retailers want to get rid of stocks because of a new model.

Having said that, you *might* see some bargain Nikon D5100 DSLR cameras on Black Friday. Nikon have been selling the D5100 for several years now and they bought out a D5200 to replace it just over a year ago. They have just this month launched a D5300 with wireless capability. That means there's lots of stocks of 2 generation old D5100 cameras that the retailers want to shift.

Although it's now 2 generations old, The D5100 is still a very good camera with a great sensor and it would actually be a very good alternative to the Canon: http://snapsort.com/compare/Canon-T3i-vs-Nikon-D5100

The trick with finding bargains on Black Friday is to look out for old stock like that. When there are several generations of similar equipment available the retailers use the opportunity to shift the old stock. If you don't *need* the latest extra gizmos then you can pick up a bargain.

The Nikon D5100 is already something of a bargain because of the D5200 and D5300 being on the market. If Black Friday pushes prices even lower then it would be a great buy.

Difference between ipad 2 and ipad 3? 10 pts?

Elliot

And what is 4g lte

Answer
Ipad 3 and Ipad 2 share the same front camera.
The back camera of the ipad 3 is capable of 1080p 5 megapixels vs. the ipad 2's 720p 0.7 megapixels.

Ipad 2 has a A5 dualcore chip, while the ipad 3 has a A5X dualcore chip with a quadcore graphics processor.

Ipad 2 has a resolution of 1024x768 vs. the ipad 3's 2048x1536 (that's getting close to my dual monitor PC resolution XD)

The ipad 3 has twice the battery life of the ipad 2.

The ipad 3 is slightly heavier (600g vs 652g) than the ipad 2 (due to the battery).

EDIT

4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) allows speeds of up to 100Mbs/s (faster than most home connections), decreasing the upload/download time of just about everything you do on the internet.

IPad 2 or the new iPad?

FlyBaby

I am looking into buying my first iPad. I mainly would be using it for Internet, email, PowerPoint, and pages. I need something to do schoolwork on but don't want a bulky laptop. So which would be better? Occasionally, I would use it for movies and such when I'm on vacation an whatnot, but schoolwork is the main use. So which should I get? And how much memory? And why? Thanks!

Answer
I think you should have a look at ipad 3
Pros:
1. Sleek new screen, incredibly refined and mature.
2. A large app and media store, and a 5-megapixel rear camera for 3D photos.
3. The third-generation iPad will feature a Retina Display that offers double the resolution and four times as many pixels as the iPad 2 and users will be able to use the iPad without actually touching the iPad. Basically, wherever you look on the iPad screen, the camera will recognize through the use of constant retina scanning.
4. Heavy application loads 6 seconds faster than iPad 2.

Cons:
1. More heavier than the iPad 2.
2. Bigger battery means increased recharge time.
3. The new iPad gets warm.
4. apps and movies utilize more space.

Good beginner DSLR camera ?

preston

I need a reasonable beginner DSLR camera with lens anywhere from $400-$500? Any suggestions. Or should I opt for a digital camera like the Nikon LP100 (I think it's called?)? I am a beginner photography enthusiast and hope to be able to do photo shoots for people in the future or get a job as a photographer for a newspaper (I'm 15, so this is a while down the road.) I hope to one day be a photographer for National Geographic! So can I have some suggestions on a gold beginning camera? Thanks so much!

Answer
If you want to go pro, at some point you will need a DSLR. But you don't need a DSLR to learn how to use a camera.

That said, anything about a camera can be taught - except for one thing - composition. Each photographer has to develop their own composition skills, and each photographer will have their own style for doing so. That is the main thing that differentiates the Ansel Adams of the world from the rest of us.

Composition skills can only be developed through experience, and experience is only attained through practice. Practice comes from having a camera that has DSLR-like features.

Your price point is under the range of even entry-level DSLRs. If you are looking to take a few years to learn, look at something like a Nikon P7000 or a Canon G12. Of the two, while they have the same $499 MSRP, the Nikon can be found on-line for under $400, and the Canon not much under $500.

These cameras are "professional" point & shoots, if there is such a thing. At least they could be called high-end compact cameras.

While not having nearly the capability of a DSLR, they certainly have the requisite DSLR-like features, including the all-important Aperture/Shutter priority and Manual modes that allow you to learn how to use a camera. The Nikon can even be manually focused (not sure if the Canon does or not).

These cameras also allow you to shoot in RAW mode so that you can later process them in photoshop, or other software - another skill you will need to learn to go pro.

You would be far ahead of the game to learn a few years on one of these, then make an easier jump to a DSLR when your available finances allow such a purchase.

I own a Nikon DSLR as well as a P7000. The P7000 is my go-to camera if I cannot take my DSLR with me.

High resolution for digital camera?

Q. I have a Panasonic DMC-FX01 digital camera. Does any one know how to take 200 or 300 dpi images? is it even possible?

Answer
Set the camera to 2 or 3 megapixels resolution (or whatever you want up to its max of 6 megapixel). 100 dpi is roughly 1 megapixel.

difference in 5 and 10 megapixel cameras?

Alexandria

whats the difference in the pictures.?
is it worth the money.?

Answer
Megapixel resolution is about potential photo size, not picture quality.

Most companies are touting high mega pixel to sell cameras, but high mega pixel settings take longer to process and may not be needed unless required for large pictures or enlarging parts of pictures. Maximum print size for a 3 mega pixel setting is 8 x 10 inches.

Would choose a 3 MP setting unless you plan to print a photo larger than 8 x 10 inches. You actually lose picture quality when you crop a higher MP photo down to a smaller size. It also takes more money, memory space, processing, and transmission time with a higher setting.

Digital Camera users?

Q. I am looking into buying a new digital camera SLR. I'm not sure which is the best buy for the price. I just can't make up my mind yet.

What camera do you have/prefer and why?

BTW: I am looking for a good battery life as well.

Answer
The February 2007 issue of Popular Photography has an article where they compared the top 10 MP DSLR's. I took the scores and ranked the cameras similar to the way Formula 1 gives championship points. I just gave 5 for 1st place down to 1 for last place, splitting the difference when cameras tied in their catagories.

They evaluated Image Quality (giving this twice as much weight as anything else), Ease of Use, Control, and System Flexibility.

The final order and my scores are:

Nikon D80 - 17.5 points
- BEST in Image Quality, Control and System Flexibility
Canon Rebel XTi (400D) - 13.5 points
- Tied for best in System Flexibility
Pentax K10D - 11 points
- Tied for best in Ease of Use
Samsung GX10 - 11 points
- Tied for best in Ease of Use
Sony Alpha 100 - 7 points
- LAST in Image Quality, Ease of Use and System Flexibility."

Then again, this is the same magazine that put the Sony Alpha 100 dead last in this comparison named it the camera of the year in the previous issue! (In a follow-up to this seeming error, Pop Photo published the explanation that only the D80 and the Sony had been tested by the end-of-year deadline for choosing the Camera of the Year. Sony won on the strength of low price and built-in image stabilization. The other 3 that beat Sony in shoot-out were not tested until after the Camera of the Year was selected, because they were not yet available.)

Go to the original question and read the responses for more opinions.

If you want to get the "best" for the real world, consider the Nikon D200 or Canon 30D if you can afford it. For about $300-500 less, look at the results of the recent PopPhoto test and choose from that list according to your taste.

Personally, I use a Nikon D200 and would recommend it without hesitation to someone who has some knowledge of photography. For someone who wants the "best," but is starting with somewhat of an "entry level" knowledge base, I'd suggest the Nikon D80.

There are people out there who will state their preference for the Canon cameras and I will not argue with them. The Canon 30D and 400D are excellent cameras as well.

You would have to visit a camera store or camera department and pick them up and see what you think.

This review is now available online at:

Here's another reference from outside the photographic press. Consumer reports compared the Nikon D80, Canon Rebel XTi and Sony Alpha. Personally, I'd say that the Nikon came out on top here, also. It beats the Sony in "noise-free ISO" with an acceptable rating at ISO 1600 (kind of optimistic, I think...) compared to the Sony's ISO 400. It beats the Canon (in my opinion) by having a spot meter that the Canon does not offer.

Here's another comparison of interest:

[Note the navigation menu near the top of the review]

The next thing to consider is what lens to start with and where you go from there. If you are new to this, I'd say to just get the "kit" lens, which seems to be the 18-135 lens for the D80, and get started. Once you know where you really want to go with your photography, Nikon has an almost unlimited family of lenses to choose from.

If your budget won't go that far, look at the Nikon D40 or the Pentax K100D. Both are decent cameras, especially for the money.

digital cameras vs. 35mm?

amraable

why don't typical digital cameras use the same sized lenses as for 35mm film? and why is 35mm film called 35mm film?

Answer
Its called 35 mm from the film and frame size it uses ( actually 24 mmÃ36 mm )

Full frame DSLR do use roughly the same size sensor as the film frame on a 35 mm film camera. Most other DSLR use an APSc sensor ( 1.5 or 1.6 crop factor) which is smaller or a 4/3 sensor whioch is smaller still( 2X crop factor). All of these are absolutely huge compared to the tiny sensors in point and shoot cameras. If you use an EFs or DX lense on a 35 mm camera the lens will only expose part of the film frame that is why there is a difference in DX and FX lenses

Here is a good article on it

Answer
Nikon and Sony share the same Sony sensor.
There's a slight difference in the electronics behind the sensor, but Nikon pip Sony at the post for 'perceived' image quality at higher magnifications than you're likely to use or even see. Dead heat.
Nikon does not have Vibration Reduction in the body - each lens you buy has to have VR built-in. The Sony has Anti-Shake built into the body - all lenses are automatically anti-vibration.
Nikon's implementation is slightly better than Sony's - but Sony's goes across the entire lens range at 'no extra cost'.
We could go on all night about the little things. Get a hold of one. Feel it. Try the different knobs, buttons and switches. Personally (more down to my hand size/shape/oddities) I prefer handling Sony cameras - I own both. Your hands are different to mine. You might disagree.

Sony's a330 has a tiltable Live View screen. It means you can hold the camera at ground level and still see the Live View clearly. A better implementation than the Nikon's fixed screen. You could also snap the Sony's screen off, but you'd find it hard with the Nikon....

It's all swings and roundabouts. Image-wise, they're perfectly matched. Handling-wise, the Sony might be better for your hands or vice-versa.

Whichever you choose, however, you're married to it. Buy into a system and stay with it. By the time a few lenses and a flash etc have populated your kit-bag, your camera is suddenly the cheapest part of the kit - you end up buying a camera to suit the kit you have. In this respect Nikon wins - by a hair.
Sony's sensors/electronics produce better colours, though.

Canon vs Nikon dslr camera?

oddperson6

I am looking to buy an slr camera. I have narrowed it down to the Canon XS (1000D) or the Nikon D3100. Does anybody know which one is better, or can you give me some pros and cons if you have used one of the two cameras. Or is there another one you like better? Thanks

Answer
I just upgraded from a 6 year old Nikon D50 camera to the D3100. The Nikon D3100 has everything I need for work related / family / amateur photography in one very adaptable unit. It is easy to take good photos using simple category settings for various situations.

We shoot family photos indoors using the standard 18-55mm VR lens. The camera adapts easily for video using the same lens. The VR does an excellent job of cleaning up the shakes and vibrations. Auto focus does a decent job keeping up with faces & motion. It has basically eliminated carrying an additional video camera for family events. Carry extra batteries. The batteries have about 1/4 of the life of my D50 battery. Video seems to eat batteries more quickly.

I also use my Nikon D3100 camera for work related photography - mostly with a 55-300mm VR zoom lens. I use it for taking photos of architectural projects, finished products, and factory applications for website and promotional purposes, as well as technical documentation. The camera is very adaptable to light conditions and produces professional looking photos with ease.

Using the zoom lens for video is an impressive option, but has some limitations. I was able to shoot video of a children's school program on a tripod with outstanding results. The clarity of the lens and camera's performance captured very high quality long-distance video. The sound quality was a little weak - I could use an external microphone option if available. The lens noise was also noticeable when using both auto-focus and VR stabilization. I recommend using a tripod and enabling VR, but using manual focus to decrease motor noise. It may pick up some VR noise, but the benefits outweigh the negatives.

Overall, I am enjoying my new toy and think it is exactly what I wanted at a reasonable price.

what is the difference between optical zoom & digital zoom in a digital camera?

sammy bazz

Answer
One Word, "Cropping".

Optical Zoom refers to lenses actually making the subject of the photo appear to be closer to the camera becasue it magnifies. You still are using ALL of your megapixels four the photo.

Digital zoom is just like cropping. If you zoon in two times, you are making the pixels twice as big, and having half as many of them in your photo. This makes it look grainy.

Any Point and shoot Digital camera that has at least 1.6 Megapixels will do a fine Job when printing a 4 X 6 Inch Photo...

Your 1024 X 768 Pixel Monitor only has 786432 Pixels which is 0.786 MegaPixels.

BUT, the lenses on digital cameras are usually nothing close to impressive in most cases.
They may have a 3X or 4X Optical Zoom Lens. (Ignore digital Zoom, See above and below term "Cropping").

You can only get so close you your subject.
For Example:
My Two sons were playing in the pool on a bright sunny day. My wife wanted my 11 year old daughter to take a photo of both of them My daughter wasted 5 pictures trying to get them both, but my Brat of a 9 year old decided to Jump the other direction to try to mess up every one of her shots.

The Photos were ruined, we all thought. BUT, she was using a 5 Megapixel Casio camera.
I looked at each of these landscape images again. I found that it I cropped out the Brat by turning the photo 90 degrees to be a Portrait shape and getting rid of the 2/3 of the photo that was bad, there was a fantastic image.
This image had 1.66 Pixels left in it which produced a Brillaint 4 x 6 photo of my One son.
The Lighting was perfect, the color was great, the reflections off the crests of the water was breathtaking. There were five little droplets of water that had been frozen in time dripping off his ear and there were 5 little shadows of the droplets on his chest.
The Photo is an award winner that we would have Thrown away if we did not have enough megapixels in our Camera.

More megapixels does not make your snapshots look better.
More megapixels gives you the freedom to look for the hidden beauty in each photo, crop out the bad, and have fantastic quality left in the Image.

Picture One Both Boys Full resolution. Please allow time it is large.

Picture two, just Daniel after Cropping.
http://giftindex.com/photos/danielpool.j...

No computer monitor can do these two photos justice. Remember the monitor only shows about 1 7th of the pixels in its highest resolution.
If you really want to see what I am talking about, copy both photos to a cd or a memory card, take it to walmart, walgreens, CVS pharmacy, or anyone that does full resolution 4 x 6 prints and print them out. You will KNOW why you want more than 3 Megapixels.

P.S. My daughter age 11 DID win the Blue ribbon with Honors at the county 4H fair with this photo and nine others that she took herself. She also got a Blue ribbon at the State fair, too.

The camera she used has been discontinued, but its replacement is here.

LG enV2 camera quality?

Q. im planning on getting an enV2 (my first cellphone, ha, parents finally allowing me to have one) and according to some of the reviews I've read, the only bad thing about it that bugs me is that the camera sucks. Is it really that bad? It doesn't have to be top notch or anything, I have a regular digital camera for that, but I want it to be atleast somewhat decent. It's a 2.0 megapixels. Is the camera honestly that horrible and can anyone show me a picture taken from the enV2 i can look at?
ive seen a couple pictures, but i dont think they look bad. but theres several reviews saying the cameras bad.

Answer
Dont listen to the reviews. The Env2 has a very clear 2.0 MP camera. The main downside is that it has no flash, that's what the reviewers could be complaining about. And the zoom is hidden from you(you must lower the resolution of a pic to access zoom). Dont get me wrong, the Env2 will not fill all your picture taking needs(you might as well carry around a small digital camera with you for serious pics) bu the camera is decent
