What is a dslr camera?

Betty B

I don't own a camera... I just want to know the difference between that and any other regular digital camera.

Answer
DSLR stands for Digital Single Lens Reflex

They are the large(r) cameras you see in the hands of a few people. Things that make them better is the technology that goes inside. They have a larger image sensor- 15x the size of any compact camera. They have interchangable lenses- meaning there are lenses for wide angle, telephoto, and super telephoto, macro, portrait, tilt-shift, and more. all DSLR cameras have complete manual settings which puts the photographer in charge of what the camera will do. If the photographer says to keep the shutter open for 1/1000th of a second, the shutter will be open for 1/1000th of a second. Doing this allows complete control over the picture- which is a huge plus.

the reason why a DSLR camera is called so, is because light enters the single lens (SL) of the camera, hits a couple of mirrors and goes to the viewfinder. This makes it so what you see in the viewfinder is what you will take a picture of. When you go to take a picture, the mirror will reflex up and down along with the shutter to reveal the sensor to the light (reflex). The sensor will read the light and create the image... digitally

so there: DSLR

My first DSLR camera!?

whoahhh

hi im planning on purchasing my first DSLR and i wanted to get some opinion before i get one.
im currently comparing olympus e-pl1 and canon rebel t1i but i don't think i know enough about these yet...i tried comapring them by reading the descriptions on their website but since i don't know anything about dslr it didn't help much.

i went to bestbuy today and saw olympus e-pl1 but the quality of the picture wan't as good as i expected was also bit lagging so i was wondering maybe it's because it's too dark in there
can you give me some props on those two cameras and recommend other dslr camera for me? :) thank you! :)

Olympus E-PL1 is not a DSLR but an EVIL. EVIL's are DSLR like cameras minus the mirror. And E-PL1 doesn't seem to have a viewfinder. http://www.dpreview.com/previews/olympusepl1/

Here is a review of the T1i and with comparisons to Canon Rebel XSi, Canon 50D, Nikon D5000, and Olympus E-620.

You also have to consider that people is comparing the newly released Nikon D3100 against the T2i (a more expensive camera).

Between the E-PL1 and the T1i, I will go with the T1i...
but between the T1i and the Nikon D3100, I will go with the D3100.
Simply because in reading previous reviews between Nikon and Canon (considering of course the competing models), Canon cameras shoots better outdoors while Nikon cameras shoots better in low light. Every camera shoots good in good light but not all cameras shoots good in low light.
