An 8.2mp camera would provide photos in 3264x2448 format, which my 10mp dSLR considers high quality. And the size of a picture shot at this resolution would be about 2mb in jpg format. The ISO number (1600) is also another plus for this camera, allowing you to shoot better pictures in low light conditions.

Olympus FE-20 8 megapixel camera?
D.Bean
I want to get a digital camera.....i was looking into 10 megapixel cameras but an olympus Fe-20 camera is on sale but it only has 8 megapixels...are 8 megapixel cameras decent? or if you have heard of this camera is it a good one?
Answer
The FE-20 costs less than US$90...so surely you couldn't expect too much greatness from such a budget camera?
I wouldn't recommend you get it. For a start, it suffers terribly from shutter lag. Many Olympus cameras have this problem. This means it's very slow to take a picture (over 1 second). You will find this VERY frustrating when trying to capture anything that's remotely not still. Also, you will find it difficult keeping your camera perfectly still for over 1 second...which will most likely result in many shots being blurred. Many other compact cameras take a picture at around 1/10th of a second when pre focused and around 4/10 of a second or so, when not.
Also, it takes around 5 1/2 minutes from turning on the camera and being able to take the first shot. This is extremely slow. Other cameras are much faster and usually take 2 seconds slightly more...to much less.
Also, it uses xD cards, which honestly are crap. They're slower and more expensive than SD or SDHC cards.
8MP is much more than the average snapper needs, so don't think that by getting a camera with more MP means it will be better. What's most important is the camera brand itself, because all brands are different. Some are excellent, some are good and some are crap...and I would say that most Olympus compact cameras fall into the crap category.
If you care about image quality...get a Canon. Even their budget models (which may have less features and performance than their better models) but at least they still have great image quality.
