I think there are two ways for you to go considering what I hear from you.
*A. One is to get a bag that basically just holds your camera with the lens and a bit of space to hold and extra battery and memory cards.
A bag that is some size bigger and can hold the camera and more. It does not have to much bigger than Option A, maybe enough extra space to carry a second lens.
I have provided a number of links below, some are to three known name camera bag makers and some are to vendors to see prices and other brands.
Here are my recommendations to look at for each option:
Option A: There are 2 to consider here and they are very similar.
***Tamrac 5514 Adventure Zoom 4 Holster Bag - designed to hold DSLR or Film SLR with a Zoom Lens up to 3.5" Long Attached. This option is trying to keep more compact and carry as little as possible, there is one external front pocket. Estimated cost $23
and the
***Tamrac 5515 Adventure Zoom 5 designed to hold DSLR or Film SLR with a Zoom Lens up to 4.5" Long (this model has 2 extra outside side pockets along with the external front pocket).
Estimated cost $25
Option B:
***Lowepro Nova 160 AW Shoulder Bag - can carry one or two extra lens. More space than the options above but a bit bigger. Estimated cost is $45.
I really like the Tamrac I listed in first more compact options, they are somewhat triangle in shape, holding the camera lens pointed downward. Other brands make this sort of case but Tamrac offers a good variety of sizes, a carry handle as well as the shoulder strap, and a short strap latch to keep the bag closed as well has being able to zipper it closed. I also like how the when it is closed the top is designed to overlap the zipper.
I know this is this is a long post, but a camera bag is very important, it protects the camera which is not a cheap investment.
The vendor are pretty easy to search and research.

Then try taking along a Pentax K30 DSLR with 18-135 lens which both have some weatherproofing.
To carry it get one of these Spider clips to go on your belt

If you're not wanting an interchageable lens camera but can still carry one in a small shoulder bag then get a Canon SX50 superzoom. Alternatively a Canon G15 which still has a little optical viewfinder for quick framing in awkard conditions.
