Best DSLR camera? 500$ or less?

babykassy2

I am a high school student and have been taking photography for 2 years. i am going into competition for medical photography, i need a good dslr camera but not sure which is best and has best quality. nikon d3100? also is the nikon 1 j1 as good as the regular proffessional camera?

Answer
The D3100 is a fine camera and if you can find one for $500 or less, then go for it.

What do you mean, "regular professional camera" I don't think you are asking about a Nikon D4, they cost around $6,000.

The D3200 ($700) is the latest version of the D3100 and is just full of all the new technology found in the new Nikon D600, D800 and D4.

The Nikon 1 is made for a specific purpose. It is for those who travel and want a small camera and lens that they can carry in a brief case or purse.

Digital and dslr camera help?

Will Joyne

Hi, im looking for a camera to get for christmas.

Roughly around £150 and it needs good optical zoom.

I also wondered if there are any cameras between dslrs and digital cameras ?

Answer
If you want sonething that you can just drop into your purse them these compacts would be the best. They all have enough manual controls to satisfy even some pro's.

Canon S95
Panasonic LX3 or LX5
Canon G11 or G12 (g12 even has HD video)

There is another option for you though if you dont care about the price. These cameras are compacts that has interchangable lenses. i would say that these are the closest thing to an in betweener for compacts and dslr's.

Sony NEX 3 and NEX 5
Panasonic GF1
Olympus E-P1 E-P2 OR E-PL1

If you want specific reviews for each one of thwe cameras listed all you need to do is to go to www.dpreview.com/ and then do a search on them.

Traveling with a DSLR?

Emily J

So, I'm bringing my Nikon D40 to France with me. This is my first time traveling with my camera. It's a Nikon D40 with a 18-55mm lens. Nothing terribly special. However, I'm not sure what i should do with it for carrying it on. I have my carry on which I was thinking of putting it in and then putting its bag in the checked luggage, but I'm not sure. Any advice? Or can I have it in its bag and then my carry on as well? Thanks!

Answer
You can take a carry-on suitcase and one personal bag/camera case/laptop case/purse etc. I always travel with my husband, so I take my purse and he takes my camera backpack. You may be allowed to take the camera bag and your purse as well if they both are pretty small. But I wouldn't count on that. I would put the stuff from my purse into the camera bag instead of checking the camera bag. Never check important things like your camera, always carry them with you.

Have a great trip.

Is a backpack style or sling/messenger bag style better?

What is easier? What should I look for

Camera is a 600D Canon
I'm asking for BAG suggestions. I will be taking everything with me overseas. So I do need the bag. Thanks
Sorry, I have 2 extra lens, attatchable filters, the camera, tripod, camera cleaning kit and extra SD cards/battery.

Answer
It depends on your style of photography.

I have both - I tend to use the backpack (a Lowepro) when I'm out in the country doing landscapes - it hold not only my lenses but also filters, my tripod, sandwiches & a drink! I don't need to access it quickly, so it's not inconvenient having it on my back.

I have a messenger style bag (Crumpler) when I'm doing street photography - it's easier to reach into & grab a lens on the go when I do quick lens changes, or to grab my purse if I stop for a coffee.

Is there a camera that takes good pictures, but is cheap enough that it can be brought around everyday life?

I'm not a profession photographer but it is something that I enjoy. I recently realized that my best photos are on my Iphone because it is always with me. I would love to bring my nice camera with me wherever I go, but don't have to money to replace it if it breaks so I only bring it with me if I know I'm going to take photos. Is there a camera that is cheap enough bring every where but takes decent photos.

Answer
I love the Canon PowerShot line of cameras. I've owned four over the past few years...maybe five. They never seem to break, are small enough to fit in my jacket-pocket, you can buy a leather case that clips to your belt, they easily fit in a purse or bag. I am currently using the Canon PowerShot SD890 IS, which is cool because it has a nice large screen on the back, a tripod screw on the bottom, and the image stabilization. There are a wide range of these cameras, and if you don't mind last-year's technology, you could get this same camera for around $269. I've even seen refurbished units listed on Amazon for $119.99, but make sure you check for reputability.

Nikon also makes a very good portable camera line, the CoolPix, but I'm not really into the brand personally. It's all personal choice. If you can go to a big box shop like Best Buy, you can play with the cameras before you buy them. That's really the best way to get comfortable with them. The only problem is, the stores will only have the latest gear, while you can buy the older stuff - for a lot less money - on-line, and still have most of the same features.

Consider purchasing a portable tripod like the Joby Gorillapod, as you can carry this around and, paired with the quick release on the tripod, and the macro mode and timer in the camera, you can take some great close-up shots that people will swear were taken with a DSLR camera.

Good luck and hope this helps!

I wanna take my DSLR SONY 200 camera with camera bag and another lens on the plane but i dont know if i can this is my first time being on a plane so i dont really know what i can and cant bring on the plane.
Help pls.

Answer
You are allowed a carry on and a personal item.
Your purse is considered one and the camera case is the other. However, if you can stash it in your carry on bag (like a back pack or small case) you can also carry a purse or a laptop bag as as your personal item.
Short answer is yes you can, but do not try to get away with 3 items because one of them is small.

Robson

I really want to take my dslr camera to prom, other people i know will be taking them.
I didnt know whether to hold it separatley and take a clutch bag OR buy a bag big enough to fit it in
any ideas ? ?

Answer
i doubt you'll be able to fit that in a clutch and i wouldn't take like a purse either
you guys should just take pictures before prom (at like a park or something) and take a digital camera if anything
