What camera should I buy for very small close up items, to be clear but not costing the earth.

Answer
I highly recommend the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX9V 16.2 MP Exmor R CMOS Digital Still Camera with 16x Optical Zoom G Lens, 3D Sweep Panorama and Full HD 1080/60p Video.

http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Cyber-shot-DSC-HX9V-Digital-Panorama/dp/B004HYFX0C/ref=zg_bs_330405011_1&tag=faumioe-20

It has high photo quality (not over-saturated tendencies like Sony, nor grainy tendencies like Panasonic), excellent macro mode, 10.7x optical zoom, 3" 920k display, 10 megapixel, which will give you clearer shots with more zoom and it wont burn a hole in your pocket. Other features include:

- Speaker is present beside the power button.
- This item has a built in GPS to geo tag photos.
- Full HD 1080/60p with dual record of stills and movies
- Sony G lens with 16x optical zoom in a compact camera body
- 16.2 MP "Exmor R" CMOS sensor for superior low-light performance
- Backlight Correction; get details in difficult lighting
- 3D stills and 3D Sweep Panorama mode

It is currently ranked a number 1 in the top 100 point and shoot cameras on amazon.

Read this review about the camera to make your decision:

1GP camera! Possible?

Kris Saman

I heard that a space probe has a 1.5GP (1.5GigaPixle = 1536 Megapixels) Camera. It must have been huge, and I know that most consumer cameras have only 10.2 to 24MP, but does anyone think that a 1GP camera will ever be available for consumer use? If so, when? and what are your thoughts.

Answer
Sensors like the one on the space probe or even the ones used on telescopes here on earth get so hot, they have to be cooled using some rather interesting ways. There are some on Kitt Peak near Tucson that use liquid nitrogen.

Smaller telescopes have a 50 mm image circle using a 50 mm x 50 mm CCD sensor.

Even now, the CMOS sensors in current dSLR's get too hot during the recording of video, usually after ten minutes of use. Telescope sensors are recording an image for many hours, so cooling is a high priority
