The specs for cell phones that shoot video often sight X Megapixels, A screen resolution (e.g. 640x480), and frames per second.

Where as a camcorder's specs sight things like Lines of Resolution AND never mention Megapixels.

How can I tell which has high quality?

Answer
Because camcorders are usually standard....capable of 30 ro 60 frames per second (I think new ones can do 120 fps). Also megapixels are for stills. Camcorder video quality is light years ahead of camera phone quality.

What you have to look for is the amount (1 or 3, 3 being better) of CCDs in the camcorder and the CCD sizes.

Usually the best are Sony, Samsung, Cannon, JVC and Panasonic but there a quite a few out there that are good. The better the lense the better the quality as well.

Would 16mp for a video camera look good for youtube videos? If not what would?

I would like to shoot outdoor videos for youtube and was wondering what video cameras would look good on youtube? Price range? Megapixels?

Answer
Videos are mostly shot at the highest resoltion being 1080p which is 2mp roughly for cusumer. I think you may be confused. Cramming 16mp in a ting sensor means less light per pixel. So essentially for your question no. Any Sony Canon or JVC Pansonic between the price of £200-300 will be good enough. You may even get some cheaper.

Resolutions and file format are what you need to pay attention too. Examples. 720x480 1280x720 1920x1080 filmed in either MP4 or AVCHD. You will need to make sure your software aceepts these file formats....

I'm looking for something like a Samsung or a Sony but what I want is a nice fair priced JVC camcorder. I was looking at a Samsung u10 but I really want a naice jvc/sony camcorder and its details like the zoom,HD or not, megapixels, and whatever you think is important.

I found here the list of Best Selling Sony/JVC camcorders:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/search/ref=sr_nr_n_0?rh=n%3A172282%2Cn%3A502394%2Ck%3Asony+camcorder%2Cn%3A172421&keywords=sony+camcorder&ie=UTF8&qid=1330585376&rnid=493964#/ref=sr_nr_p_lbr_brands_browse-_4?rh=n%3A172282%2Cn%3A%21493964%2Cn%3A502394%2Cn%3A172421%2Cp_lbr_brands_browse-bin%3ASony%7CJVC&bbn=172421&ie=UTF8&qid=1330585939&rnid=2528832011&sourceid=mh.ds&tag=kefauca-20

Sony DCR-SX45 Handycam Camcorder is a good camera for you in your budget. Read this review to help you decide:

http://www.amazon.com/review/R3EKOSRCQAOE0E/ref=cm_cr_pr_perm?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B004H8FNAS&nodeID=&linkCode=&sourceid=mh.ds&tag=kefauca-20

It is very small, and light, flip the 3" LCD & the camera turns on and the lens opens immediately. The battery life is as good as any Sony camcorder. It has no built in memory so you need to buy an SD card, 16GB is good.

I found it here at a very good deal:

What Camera should I take to a school formal?

Q. I was thinking between a 8 megapixel digital camera, or a JVC Camcorder ...
the JVC camcorder has really low quality picture taking though ...

Answer
I would take the camera. It's cool that you can take videos but personally, I think that photos are more meaningful, treasurable and you can print them too! Plus, I assume that you have a pocket-sized point and shoot camera, it's more convenient to carry!
