Best pocket camera in terms of shutter speed?

AJS

I am in the market for a great pocket camera but I would like something with fast shutter speed. Overall lens quality and range of zoom is important too. Anybody with a suggestions?

Answer
I have a Canon SD870IS, and it's the best camera I have ever owned. In the past I've had a Sony DSC-P52, a Fuji A345 and a Sony DSC-W7, and only the W7 comes close in terms of image quality.

It is an 8 MP camera with a 3" LCD, super slim and image stabilization so I never get blurry pictures, if that's why you want a fast shutter speed. You can set it in manual mode to always use ISO 80 (to reduce noise, aka the graininess you see in photos). The higher the ISO, the faster the shutter speed, therefore equaling less blur on other cameras, however with the image stabilization on the SD870IS, you don't need to worry about blur unless your shutter speed is ridiculously long (you can get custom shutter speeds in the menu for cool effects).

It also has a wide-angle lens so you can fit more people in your pictures than with regular point and shoots. The zoom is 3.8X which is better than the normal 3.0X that most compact cameras have. Almost all the pictures come out beautiful with great colours and awesome focus (because of he face detection). The camera's exterior is also VERY nice looking, and the back is a very sleek black, while the front is silver, and you have an option of the area around the lens being silver or black (I have silver).

I know that here in Canada it just dropped in price from $399 to $350, but I've found deals as low as $299 so far, and if you're American, it'll be even lower. HOWEVER, in April, there will be a new version available, the SD790IS...it'll be around the same price. With the new one, they got rid of the wide-angle lens and the zoom is reduced to 3X, and the design of the back is reminiscent of a Motorola RAZR phone (I don't really like that), though the front looks very "classic" and boxy which I do like, and it gives the camera a slimming effect. It is also 10 MP, but almost nobody need 10 MP unless they are making huge poster sized images. I personally prefer my camera because of the back, as well as the wide-angle lens, but if you like the RAZR look, I'm sure the new one is just as great.

DO NOT get a Sony Cybershot, the new models are really just terrible in terms of noise (graininess) in photos, and the new menus are very hard to use, as well as time-consuming. In the past, Sony was my favourite camera brand, but not anymore. (My sister bought a Sony Cybershot DSC-W70 and I hate it.)

My Fujifilm camera was also terrible, poor build quality and poor images. I don't know if they've improved, but I won't go back to them.

My mom and my best friend both had Olympus FE-100 cameras, and both hated it (I even bought my mom a Canon SD750, which I'd recommend if you can't afford the SD870IS, because she hated the Olympus so much, and it was having so many problems...it was hard to get it to stay on for more than a few minutes before it said "low battery" with fully charged NiMh rechargables). STAY AWAY FROM OLYMPUS.

Good luck getting your camera, and if you get a Canon, you will NOT regret it! :) and P.S. Do NOT settle for less if you are worried about money. You will hate yourself if you settle for less because your camera will already be out of date, and it'll probably really suck (for lack of a better word)...that's what happened with my Fuji A345 :(.

For a camera phone is 1.3 megapixels good?

CC 9/24/11

I am using net10 for my cell phone company now. The only camera phones they have are 1.3 megapixels. Is that good?I know uscellular.com (and probably any other phone company) has phones that are 2.0 and 3.0 mega pixels..I would like one of those..but net10 doesn't have them.

Answer
now a days 1.3 MP are not considered good...coz there are many phones available with 3.0 and higher mega pixels ...so if u have money and if u r not satisfied with ur current phone than u should buy a new one...

Camera phone sprint or T-Mobile?

Matthew

Anyone know of a cell phone for sprint or tmobil that has very high quality photo taking. I'm an amateur photographer and I wanna be able to have a good camera on me at all times. I always have my phone on me. Anyway I would perfer it to be an android based phone. I'm looking for basically a camera that happens to be a phone too if u know what I mean

Answer
Think Sony has the best camera phones out there at 12+mp that get excellent reviews. Mostly available for world markets, but they have some carried by AT&T. You can also buy one unlocked and then use it on T-Mobile's prepaid $70/month unlimited plan. I like the Xperia S and Xperia SL models. The displays on them are the Reality display with a mobile Bravia engine that creates very good true to color images so you should be able to evaluate better on the spot the pictures you do take. This being said, the cameras do run you more...$400-$500 range, but you can also find some of them used in places like ebay. The band frequencies supported by the sony phones (other than the ones sold for AT&T) are also those used on the T-Mobile network. Would just need a T-Mobile sim card, and setup the APN information in the phone.

If you might be looking to buy your own phone anyways, might I mention one I am with? I use Solavei which has an agreement with and uses many of the T-Mobile towers. This service will give you unlimited talking/text/data for only $49/month and gives you incentives to share the service with others. Since it works great and costs me less than half what I was paying before, of course I share it. If I was helpful and you have any other questions on this, please don't hesitate to call/text me at 2o8-283-o837.

and by veiw MS word,, do u also mean that i can WRITE in it??
Thanks James
It helps a lot but we dont have SPRINT too. Is it available without a telecom service?

Answer
The evo 4g is amazing. It works on sprint, and because you didn't name sprint as a company you've never heard of, i assume it's available in your area.

Android is the operating system that is running on most smartphones these days including the HTC incredible, the HTC EVO 4g, and the HTC Incredible.

In addition to android, the evo 4g has an amazing camera...i believe it's 5 megapixels.

The HTC touch pro 2 is another amazing phone that has a slideout keyboard (i know you're a writer, so this is a plus.) and a great screen. The HTC touch pro 2 is one of the few phones currently out that the mobile windows operating system, so it can support Microsoft Word. I would highly suggest this phone.
Although the camera is sonly 3.6 megapixels, it fits perfectly into that small niche you work in.

highest mp camera phone available image

Louise :)

I have a 9mp camera and my friend told me that 2mp and 9mp photos look the same...... Im hoping to prove them wrong :P But i cant find a 2mp photo. So if you have one could i look at it to see the quality. Thanks :)

Answer
hi louise,

in a digital camera (and monitors, and cell phones, tvs, etc., etc...) megapixels are image sensor elements, and a single megapixel actually is one million pixels, so yours is, obviously, 9 million.

very briefly, the more pixels available, the better the quality of the photo--just like on a high-def tv--the more lines of resolution, the better the picture.

there's a whole bunch of math involved, but unless you're talking a tiny photo, a photo taken with a 2mp camera can't possibly match one taken by a 9mp camera. and even in that very tiny photo the differences likely would be visible.

the images produced are measured in bytes-and your 9 megapixel camera, of course, will produce that many more bytes per photo than one coming from a 2mp camera.

now to be fair, in a 3 x 5 photo, side-by-side, the two cameras on each one's finest respective settings would produce "comparable" photos. but you still should see the difference.

but then blow each one up to 5 x 7, 8 x 10 and on and on, and the 2 mp camera's photos wouldn't be worth printing, while yours would still be rather fine.

here are a couple of websites that might give you some additional ammunition:

http://www.megapixel.net/html/index.php

http://www.steves-digicams.com

wikipedia also has lots of good info on the subject. sorry i can't send you a photo from a 2mp camera....mine is 5. but the bottom line is, your friend is dead wrong.
