what is a good Nikon camera under 500 dollars?

jj

Answer
The best Nikon for under $500 is the Nikon D3000 DSLR. You can get the Nikon D3000 10MP DSLR Digital Camera with a 18-55mm VR Lens for about $449.

Below are some links that could be of help. First one is to a review of the D3000 and the review includes sample images from the camera.

The others are to photo dealers to help you shop and some of them have customer reviews of products.

Hope this helps.

What is a good video recording camera for under 500?

Davin

I was wanting to get a camera to start recording videos for youtube. I plan on doing this in the summer so there isn't a huge rush. I was just wondering if there were any good cameras that are under 500 dollars. I have been looking at a lot of Canon ones. I don't know very much about cameras so you can see my problem. I was looking into SLR because it seems like they are better quality.

One I was looking at was the Nikon COOLPIX P510. I thought it seemed like a pretty good camera, but some of the reviews didn't seem very good.

If you have any suggestions please post them!
Thanks for the help. But if any of you have any suggestions for camcorders that would be helpful too.

Answer
You have to remember that unless a camera is reviewed by a professional reviewer, you age going to hear a lot about the incompetence of the user, so even if they had a $8,000 Nikon D3X in their hands, they would be complaining about the poor quality of the images.

But really if your goal is to shoot video, why don't you buy a video camera?

Look for consumer level video cameras made by Panasonic, JVC, Sony and Canon. Look firts on the companies websites to see what each camera models features are before you start looking for the best price.

On the Nikon P-510

While these reviewers are not necessarily pro reviewers, the certainly know what to expect from using a P&S camera with a long optical zoom range.

Looking for a quality dslr with a fair price?

Want a dslr that shoots in 1080p HD video, obviously inter changeable lenses and manual focus, I know some cameras have automatic color correctors, I want this to be able to turn this feature OFF. Lastly it should be under 500 dollars. Thanks guys!

Answer
There aren't any at that price. The only decent camera I know of, dslr type, at that price is the
Canon 1000D which I own - but it doesn't do video.

I also have a Canon 500D which does do video but at retail it's about $700.

Do you know anything about photo editing in software? If you did you'd understand that there's really no such thing as a "color corrector". That would be a lazy person's way of taking snaps - not photos.

What you're apparently not understanding is that dslr cameras, like their earlier cousins the slr line of film cameras, are intended for serious photography - not snaps. If you're interested enough in a dslr to properly learn the camera and take serious photos then edit them for color, among other things, you'll be ready for one.

Looking for a great quality camera at an affordable price?

Preferably under 500 dollars
Id like it to have great quality photos, im not really concerned with vidoes.
Also a camera with a resonable distance for the zoom and focus

It doesn't have to be a dsl camera, I like the compact cameras with interchangable lenses. And I am well aware that dsl cameras get to prices well over $1000.

I am in highschool and I want a great quality camera to capture memories :)

Answer
By the way it's dslr not dsl.

$500 is where good starts, not great. Great starts at about $4,000 and goes up.

$500 will get you a Canon t3 dslr camera with the 18-55 lens and it's an excellent consumer level camera... not "great" but quite good.

Compact cameras with changeable lenses - they start at about $600 and aren't work the money to be sure.

I'm willing to buy used, and I don't care if it's the latest model, but I would like a good DSLR for cheap. I know they are hard to find but can anybody help me out? What are some less expensive but good models?
Also I would want it to come with a lens, charger, batteries, cord for computer, manual, etc?

What is the best camera for action shots?

delaneythe

I want to start a horse photographing buisness at horse shows and I was wondering what camera would be the best for taking action shots of horses going over jumps and things like that. I also need a camera that will shoot good action shots in low light conditions. It can be a DSLR it just needs to be under $500, I know it is unfortunately not that much money to get a good quality camera but that is all I have.

Answer
Been there, done that.

Best bottom dollar kit for action: Nikon D50 (used); Sigma 70-200 f2.8 HSM (used). In dim arenas you'll need every last ounce of ISO and aperture you can get. Monopod is recommended.

Remember -- NEVER DISTRACT A HORSE WHILE IT IS JUMPING OR YOU WILL BE TOSSED OUT (happened to me ;-)

Static and ribbon-award shots? Nikon's 18-70 kit lens and SB-800 (you wont need big apertures -- just a big honkin' flash). You'll also need to put the flash on at least a two-foot vertical extension to get rid of the hellacious blue-eye from those big horsey orbs. I used a piece of hockey stick.

Spend the money -- done right, the shots are spectacular and the horse owners have very deep pockets and are mainly bored trophy wives, if you get what I mean. Me, I switched to shooting car races because I couldn't stand the smell.
