How do you wipe down/clean your dslr camera?

Wite Out

I have a Nikon D5100. I'm curious how you wipe it down. You can see little fibers of dust on the body & the edge of the lens (not the glass, the body of it.) Seems like it collects napkin fibers.

Answer
I use a microfiber lens cloth for the glass and a large size women's makeup brush (in my bag) for quick dust offs - very soft, very gentle on the camera.

what camera do you recommend?

Priscilla

I've been itching to buy a digital camera for a while.
A few of the most important features I'd like would be, super compact, video, and a rechargeable battery.

Quality of the pictures is not too important. Maybe,5+ mp.
This is because I plan to use this for concerts, vacations, and out-doorsy stuff. I plan to use it a bunch, so the more compact the better. Thanks. :]
I can understand your view. And appreciate the thought,as well your contribution.

From what I understand, megapixels show the quality of your pictures after they're developed, or blown up. I've had a 6.2 mp camera and had very fun times with it. I dont plan on taking buy able pictures, or award worthy photographs.

Like I said, this camera would be used for minor activities.

Answer
With a small sensor camera your biggest problem with concerts will be the lack of low light performance. Very few compacts have usable high ISO or a fast enough lens for acceptable low light use.

There are exceptions, one, the Panasonic DMC-LX3 is one. It is a compact when compared to a DSLR and is small enough not to create problems with security when used in a concert or club venue, but it not tiny though it is "pocketable" or easily carried in a woman's bag. It has lower than normal pixel density for a P&S (the only criterion that counts as far as pixels go) a very fast lens and good high ISO performance, letting it take very good (better than many entry level DSLRs) low light photographs.

Check the reviews and sample images.

I have several DSLR systems with a wide selection of very good lenses, and still prefer this camera in many situations where a DSLR is impractical. It is a brilliant little camera and has earned me money shooting stock in areas where a DSLR cannot be used.

Can I get a low profile DSLR shoulder bag recommendation?

I'm looking for a bag to hold my Nikon D3200 with lens, and two to three additional lenses, a flash, my iPad, and someplace to store a small tripod. I like the Naneu bags but they don't have a place to store a tripod. The biggest thing is that I don't want a bag that screams, "Camera Bag!", like a lowepro or caselogic bag would. Does anyone out there have a recommendation? And can we keep it under $150?

Answer
Think Tank makes the best bags. I own several of them. Their Retrospective, Urban Disguise, Speed, or City Walker series would work well.

Of course, if you want the ultimate in incognito, you could go with Jill-e Designs (designer camera bags for women) or their associated Jack designs (for men).

As a young woman, should I bring my professional camera while traveling alone?

TravelBug

As a young woman, should I bring my professional camera while traveling alone?
I am 18 and have a petite frame, although athletic. I am interested in purchasing a Canon 5D Mark iii or something similar for my solo trip to Europe (Mainly england, france, belgium, and germany) and I am wondering if I will be safe enough traveling alone with a big camera around my neck. I know a lot if based on street smarts and I have quite a bit of common sense; but will people like attack me if they see my camera? This may sound crazy and ignorant, but the thought of not being safe didn't really occur to me until my mother brought it up. I am a very passionate photographer who is currently DSLR-less and in the market for one. There is not way I am going back to point and shoots. Any advice is helpful! Thanks. (Will be traveling Jan-April)

Answer
As a woman I traveled alone, with a camera around my neck part of the time. I started quite young and never felt any less than secure with the camera.
Admitted, my camera was always a cheaper one, never a professional one.

But if you that kind of person, you will not be happy doing your tour without a camera, and you already said, you will not be happy with a point and shoot, (although there are pretty good ones there.)

While your camera is expensive, most people will not see the different between one SLR or the other, and most thieves do not go for the camera of someone who is aware but more for that of someone who is distracted.
When you do not use your camera, carry it in a bag that does not scream 'Expensive camera'. Have it in a protective bag in an old battered backpack.

Do not wander through the less nice parts of the cities.

And make sure you have a good insurance and remember that the few thieves who will mug, will rather just take your camera, do not give them the excuse to hurt you by trying to defend it.
