Should I get blackberry bold 9900 or the touch 9850?

Nicholas D

I am going to be getting a new phone soon and these two phones look really cool. Please let me know which one I should get and why. Thanks you.

Answer
The BlackBerry Torch 9850/9860 is an all-touch device which seems to be a successor of the Storm series. It has 3.69-inch touchscreen display, a 1.2GHz processor, HSPA+, Liquid Graphics and a 5MP camera with 720p video recording. The BlackBerry Bold 9900/9930 has a full QWERTY keyboard coupled-up with a capacitive touchscreen, a 1.2GHz processor, 768MB of RAM, HSPA+ 14.4Mbps wireless, a 5-megapixel with 720p HD camera, WiFi and GPS.

Blackberry Bold 9900 or iPhone 4s?

LMAO

I have wanted an iphone ever since it first came out.
My parents said I could have one once I graduated high school.
Now the iphone 4s came out and they are ready to buy me one but I am having second thoughts.
Almost everyone at my college has a blackberry and they all communicate using BBM blackberry messenger). Basically if you dont have a Blackberry you are left ignorant of all thats going on.
What should I choose? The iphone with all its cool features or the blackberry with its social networking?
Thanks :)

Answer
Both phones have their pros and their cons, and each one is marketed towards different people.

The Blackberry is marketed towards people who want to stay in touch, and want to be able to communicate on the go. Having BBM is definitely a plus when most people that you like to communicate with use it, and typing on its physical keyboard cannot be beat when compared to other phones. The Bold is definitely the best Blackberry yet, it uses a single core 1.2 GHz processor, which may seem a bit slow compared to the iPhone's dual core processor, but it's certainly no slouch and can handle even the most demanding tasks with ease. Also, having a dedicated GPU in the Blackberry really helps the performance. The Blackberry uses a much smaller display, which may be a downfall for you, but it depends on whether you'd prefer a physical keyboard or a larger display. The resolution of the Bold is also a bit lower, but it has a very similar pixel density. The Blackberry has a premium design, and like the iPhone it feels solid in your hand. Unfortunately, because the phone's so thin RIM (the makers of Blackberry) didn't include an autofocus camera, so some of the shots from the camera may come out a bit out of focus. You'll also need to deal with the lack of a front facing camera, and whether video chat is important to you. The main disadvantages of the Bold would be its lack of applications from Blackberry App World, there's not much selection. If you like playing games and downloading lots of apps, the iPhone may be a better choice. The Bold also has a small battery, but the total battery life is very similar to that of the iPhone. The Boldâs main advantage is the ability to switch to another battery if you run out of charge on one. The iPhone's battery cannot be switched when it runs out of charge, so if you run out of battery life you'll be stuck without a phone until you charge it. The Bold boasts 8 GB of internal storage, enough for most people, but you can also expand it using another memory card, something that you can't do with the iPhone. The Bold's web browsing experience is also a bit worse compared to that of the iPhone, but it's still quite usable and a HUGE improvement over older Blackberrys. The main downfall of the browser is that browsing on such a small screen is difficult.

The iPhone is a better device for media, and less for staying in touch. Perhaps that has to do with the keyboard, it's much easier to type with a physical keyboard such as that of the Blackberry than it is typing on a piece of glass like the iPhone's. The Blackberry also lays out its messaging apps very nicely, and you'll be hard pressed to find a better Email machine (Blackberry's push Email system is THE BEST!). The iPhone's reception will also tend to be a bit worse, but still very usable. The iPhone's processor is a bit faster, but nothing to write home about. The faster processor translates to overall faster speeds that the Blackberry when opening apps or installing apps, but nothing too major. Navigating around and usual everyday tasks should be comparable on each phone. The iPhone's display is better than the Blackberry's, it has a slightly higher pixel density for a clearer display, and it's obviously a fair bit larger. That's not to say that the Bold's display is bad, it's very difficult to tell a difference between each phone's resolution, and unless size of the display is a priority the Blackberry will be just as good. The iPhone's 8 MP camera is similar to that of the Bold's 5 MP, don't be fooled, the camera's lens is more important than the megapixels. The quality is great on each, but the iPhone's autofocus will get you better close up shots. Video recording on each phone is in HD, but the Blackberry has a noticeably better microphone. The iPhone also includes a decent front facing camera for video chatting. You've probably heard of the iPhone's App Store, it offers a HUGE selection of apps such as games, productivity tools and more. If you think that you'll download lots of apps, the iPhone would be better for you, it's app selection is unbeatable by any other phone right now. The iPhone 4s is also shunned for having only mediocre battery life, but it's comparable to the Blackberry's and could get most people through a day. Keep in mind that you can't swap out batteries on the iPhone though. Storage on the iPhone is limited to 16 and 32 GB, while the Blackberry can take storage cards on top of its 8 GB of storage, and you can load up to a 32 GB card in, giving it a total of 40 GB of storage. Browsing on the iPhone is also a bit quicker, but very similar to the Bold. The only main advantage of the iPhone is its larger display. Neither phone runs Flash.

Overall, the Blackberry's better for communication, and the iPhone's better for media such as apps or web browsing. However, I'm sure that you'll be happy with whatever phone that you choose.

I've had the T-mobile G1 for nearly 3 years and it's slowly failing on me. The text messaging feature is already dead and I've already had to replace the battery a year ago. It's now running pretty slow and I'm getting error messages on the programs. It's had a good run, but it's time for a major upgrade.

Answer
Well, it depends on what you're looking for and what you need most.
Do you want bragging rights in that you have the first Windows Phone made by Nokia available in the US? If so, go with the new Nokia Lumia 710. Nokias are renowned for great signal quality and battery life, and they've sold the most phones worldwide out of any manufacturer. You would also get the free Nokia Drive navigational feature, which allows voice-guided turn-by-turn GPS nav without requiring data (very useful out in the boondocks). Granted, Windows Phone 7.5 doesn't have the millions of apps Android or iOS do, but it's still in the running. Plus, for $49 on-contract, it's a good deal.

Perhaps you prefer something to satisfy your sweet tooth, like with Gingerbread from Android? In that case, there is what is being touted as "the best device in T-Mobileâs portfolio," the Samsung Galaxy S II (quite a mouthful, that). This is one of several variations of the S2; T-Mobile's version sports a larger screen (4.52 in) and a Qualcomm dual-core processor capable of 1.5GHz rather than the other 1.2GHz S2's available on other carriers, namely AT&T's variant, the Skyrocket. Either way, this phone is bound to eventually get Ice Cream Sandwich, Android's latest software. It is rather pricey, though, at $229 from T-MO on-contract.

If you're more business-oriented, you may prefer to get a BlackBerry. T-Mobile's latest offering is the BlackBerry Bold 9900 4G; quite a snazzy-looking hunk of tech, actually. Here, you get the best of the touch world and the tactile world, with both a decent-sized touchscreen and the good, old BlackBerry QWERTY keyboard underneath. You won't get as many "ooh's" and "ah's" as you might with the other two, but you'll certainly get the job done. Like Windows, it too has less app support than Android. It comes with a 5 megapixel camera and BlackBerry 7 OS. This is the most expensive of the three, at $299 on-contract.

Bear in mind that the prices may vary depending on how good your negotiating skills are, how long you've been a customer, and how much you want the thing. Do your own research; look up tech reviews from different sites before even going down to the store to check the phones out. Once you've decided which one you're comfortable shelling out money for, play with it a little in the store to see if you're fine with how it feels, how it functions, etc. Of course, there are many more phones available from T-Mobile, but these were just a few so you'd know (basically) what to expect. Happy hunting!
