This year for a christmas/birthday combination present I'm planning to get a digital SLR camera. However I'm not sure what would be the best option for me to get seeing as though this will be my first professional camera. I've tried to do some research but I'm so torn, I mean there are so many great options from both Nikon and Canon. I need help picking out what camera I should get, and which brand is better? Your opinions are greatly appreciated!:)

Have you checked out the Nikon D3100? Its a great entry-level DSLR. Th photo quality is terrific and videos are excellent. It has a fine body and very reliable. DSLR Camera Comparison Nikon or Canon?

Looking to purchase good beginner DLSR camera, no previous lenses, starting from scratch and would be happy with just 2 decent lenses, not looking to go pro, just family photos, travel photos, kids' events, etc.
Comparing Nikon D60 package that comes with 2 lenses from BestBuy vs, Nikon D80, or Canon XSi. Any suggestions?
