I am looking to buy my DSLR camera. I don't want to get anything too expensive since I am just learning. Any suggestions on the way to go?

I want to buy a dslr camera but i don't really know what to look for in the camera. I know my preference is important but I want to know any features that really are necessary and make my experience with the camera better.
