DSLR camera with HD video capabilities?

bbyA

For my birthday I'd decided I wanted a DSLR camera with video mode, specifically a Canon Rebel T1i. My birthday rolled around and I did not receive my camera. I was disappointed but upon further research I realized the T1i was actually $849, on sale! I'm not sure how I missed that detail, but I was wondering if there were any other DSLR cameras with 'movie' mode preferably from $500-600. Thank you in advance.

Answer
No DSLR's with movie mode for that price!. I will give you some advice though.. Buy a DSLR for it's photo taking qualities, not video. It may surprise you to learn that video in DSLRs is utterly crap!, that's right.. just plain and simple crap.

That money would be far better spent on a quality semi-pro model, or a higher end entry level. The T1i is just an entry level camera, at a semi-pro price. I personally think the price that Canon are charging for it is disgusting.

The Nikon D90 would be a better buy, you have a much better camera than the T1i and your video mode (albeit it is pretty crap!).

.

which camera should i buy?

QTpie.

since september i have been doing photography in sixth form,
i dont have my own camera, i tend to use the provided DSLRs from school,
this is quite a pain as it takes days of waiting to book one out.

ive decided its about time i buy my own but i dont know which to get,

on argos theres a 13mp samsung for £100
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5591978/c_1/1%7Ccategory_root%7CPhotography%7C12109590/c_2/2%7Ccat_12109590%7CDigital+cameras%7C12109607.htm

is this a good deal?

i dnt know whether to get this, or to save up for a DSLR?

how much will the quality of my photos differ on this 13mp samsung and a 13mp dslr?

also can i achieve depth of field on the samsung?

Answer
In new cameras, look for a viewfinder (LCD invisible in bright sun), optical image stabilizer, and check battery prices. High mega pixel settings take longer to process and may not be needed unless required for very large pictures. Maximum print size for a 3 mega pixel setting is 8 x 10 inches. Click links below for more details.

http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/mpmyth.htm ...

The Canon A590IS is a slightly older model that is available everywhere at great sale prices. Think it is a great camera and a best buy. It has auto focus, a viewfinder, optical image stabilization, and uses rechargeable NiMH batteries.

http://bountii.com/deal-1523871-canon-powershot-8-0-megapixel.html ...

You may never need expanded wide angle or telephoto capabilities, but the A590 IS is compatible with Canon's accessory lens adapters: A small button next to the lens bezel is actually a latch; press it and you can remove the bezel ring, exposing a bayonet mount for accessory lenses. Canon offers the WC-DC52 0.7x wide-angle lens, the TC-DC52A telephoto lens, the 250D 52mm closeup lens separately, along with the LA-DC52G adapter to mount them on the camera. (Note that the wide, tele, and macro lenses all need the LA-DC52G adapter to mount them to the camera. The lenses won't work by themselves.)

There is no one place to get great buys, but click the second link in the information above then search for your camera of choice at the upper left. Camera prices at this link change often.

What gives a camera its picture quality?
It is mostly the skill of the photographer that produces high quality pictures. The lens and camera are very important, but the ability to set the scene, adjust the cameras settings, and hold the camera very still or use a tripod with auto or remote shutter actuation when required is what gets the great pictures. Megapixel resolution is about potential photo size, not picture quality.

There are so many cameras out there it is difficult to say which is best, but the second source link will be very helpful as it list most of the cameras out there with prices. The following information should help you know what to look for in a camera.

A friend asked me to clean and charge her new 2000mAh Duracell batteries as described in the next link. Those batteries are still going strong after four months of normal use and have not been recharged.

Click this link for other camera tips and complete instructions on cleaning camera and battery electrical contacts.
http://www.google.com/base/a/4210404/D13701973093918363271

Most NiMH rechargeable batteries lose charge and should be recharged when not used after two weeks, but Duracell and RayOVac new formula 2000mAh NiMH batteries hold charge one year when not used. Also, 2000mAh batteries seem to have a longer life. Did not like these batteries at first, but have 12 over five years old and all are still as good as new. Higher mAh batteries (about one year old) still work well in flashlights, but won't start my camera.

CAUTION Do not overcharge! Batteries can be damaged. Use an automatic two or more hour Energizer Compact smart charger with temperature monitor, trickle charge technology, and safety timer ($9.76) at Walmart. Use pre-charged 2000mAh Duracell ($12.97) or RayOVac ($5.97) batteries (both hold charge one year) and a full cycle charge. To preserve battery charge, use the viewfinder.

This could be the best slim line camera with a viewfinder and ... It's PINK, but it uses a $49.50 Series G Rechargeable 960mAh lithium-ion battery.

This link is about prolonging the life of lithium-based batteries which last from two to three years, but are very expensive. A Sony series G rechargeable 960mAh lithium-ion battery is $49.88 at Walmart.

CAUTION To prevent memory card corruption, keep batteries charged, format in camera, and don't delete or fill card completely. Wait for lights to stop flashing then turn camera off before removing memory. For card readers, double click Safely Remove Hardware. Select, then click Stop and OK.

Lots of great camera tips in this link.
http://www.danscamera.com/Learning/going_digital/#resolution ...

My camera has 5.2 mega pixel, but I use 3 most of the time because it gives great results, is faster, and takes less memory. Also, it only has a 3 x optical zoom and 7 x digital zoom. I never use the digital zoom because making pictures larger works better on the computer. This is an old camera, but everyone is impressed with the quality pictures it takes ... like magic.

Once you select a camera, read all about it in the owner's manual. Check the camera maker's site or view owner's manuals at this link. You will need to Login. http://www.retrevo.com/s/digital+camera ...

The source links show most of the cameras out there with prices and make digital cameras work better with help on cleaning camera and battery electrical contacts.

What is the best DSLR camera for a beginner?

Sophia

For the holidays, my mom is going to match me for a DSLR camera. I want her to buy my gift on Black Friday so that it'll be cheaper for the both of us. I have been taking photos using point and shoots and other digital cameras for a few years now. I really want one that is professional grade but one that's also pretty user friendly. I'm looking in the 200-600 range (regular price not sale price). I want a camera that's light weight but also really sturdy. Thanks! c: p.s. if you have any pics from the camera that you recommend, a link would be great!!

Answer
Rebel T3's are really good cheap beginner cameras and they are on sale. Rebel T3is are even better, but pricier. You can also get some great, exceptional quality with superzooms that are just that step right below DSLR like the SX50. I'm trying to decide between all of these. You can directly compare cameras and see which one wins here: snapsort.com/compare

for my birthday i want to get a dslr camera but i dont know which one to get. i'm trying not to buy a really expensive one and i'm a beginner. But, i dont want like a suckish camera just beacuse i'm like a "beginner" becuase i can learn how to use it. The reason is that i'm going to be using this camera for a very long time until i upgrade. what's a good one that has good features and not "too cheap" if possible i would like one with a self cleaning lens if thats what it's called and preferably nikon or canon. thanks so much. MOST is like 460 ish i really want to stay in the 400 range. maybe find me a link thats on sale?

Answer
Canon T3 is the perfect camera for you! It is the most Popular entry level dslr and for a good reason! It has a 12.2 mp sensor allowing for very high quality images. It shoots full he video. It costs 499$ on amazon, 415$ on eBay. Has an interchangeable lense so you can swap out lenses for certain shots, and many more features! This would be the best camera for your price and your talent!

Im in the market for a dslr camera, should i buy it before christmas or after christmas? which sale is bigger?

i wanted to buy a dslr camera (canon rebel xti or nikon d40x) and was wondering will i get a better discount/deal for the before christmas sale or after christmas sale. any input appreciated.

Answer
Ahem. "Gray" cameras from Nikon or Canon are not plastic versions of metal cameras sold in the USA. Rather, they are identical cameras that have NOT been brought into the country by official import channels. Since Nikon and Canon do not have any control or share of the distribution, they refuse to provide the same level of support and service. It would be like you buying something from one store, and expecting another store to help you with how to use your new item, or expecting free adjustments. Gray market cameras are physically identical (except for the occasional label), but have not earned warranty or after warranty support. Example: Nikon will never repair a gray market Nikon in the USA, even if you offer to pay in full.

My advise for buying a camera? Buy it now. Trust me, there are huge discounts now for your Canon Rebel XTi or Nikon D40x. Yes, there will be some discounts after Xmas, but there's two major concerns.
1. You may be buying a camera that someone got as a gift, and returned. The stores will "check" them, and put them back on the shelf.
2. You'll miss all the great photos for the next few weeks. Missed photos are lost photos.

In either case, since you've narrowed your choices down, I make one strong recommendation. Go into a camera store and try both camera bodies out. See which one suits your hands, your style, and feels most like an extension of you. More bells and whistles mean nothing if the camera gets in the way of your photography.

Hope this is helpful.

any thanksgiving sales of camera that you have aware of?

Q. i would like to get a dslr camera for myself, i think thanksgiving sales might be a good time to look for one.

Answer
There should probably be some deals on the entry level DSLRs... like the D40 or Canon Rebel XTi. Of these I would opt for the D40 as its a better build quality than the entry level Canons. Usually (for point and shoots) the cameras that go on sale are the crummy ones.
