I'm going on a graduation trip with my best friend next week. We're going to California for some shopping (mostly window shopping lol) but we're most excited about the beach. Anyway!

I love photography and I have a pretty nice camera (Nikon D5100). I don't want to take it and have it get ruined or stolen on the trip but I can't help but think of all the missed opportunities of pictures I could take when I'm there. There are a lot of factors.

What do you think? Have you taken a nice camera on a trip and what was your experience? Any suggestions for ways I could keep it safe? Thanks!

Answer
Two of the worse enemies of a camera are all rolled in together at a beach... moisture and sand. If you take it, be sure you do not change lenses unless the camera is in an enclosure where water and sand cannot get into it. Even without doing any lens swapping, the body and lens are not designed to withstand that kind of environment, at least not for long. There are protective bags made for such uses, but you can do pretty well with a large Ziplock bag. Use a lens hood and cut a hole in the bag to just fit around the hood. Secure the bag opening to the lens hood with strong rubber bands, and, with the camera inside the bag, zip the bag closed. The clear bag will still allow you to use the camera, though not with a lot of ease.

Though I know it is probably not an option for you now, a weather / water proof digital point and shoot camera is best in this kind of situation.

You can also give thought to using a disposable 35mm film camera.

Worrying about and struggling with your DSLR could do a lot to hurt your fun. If it was me, I would take it, but not use it on the beach. Use the DSLR for other things and a camera you do not have to worry about on the beach.

Should i stay with the Olympus XZ-1 or get a Nikon D5100 for trick photography?

Looqki

Hello, I have a question.

I have got a Olympus XZ-1 digital camera, and it is quite good for long exposure photography, but it has several problems. First, the image is a bit noisy even at ISO 100, and the second is, that I have a limited lens range. I was planning to buy a Nikon D5100 camera. Do you recommend getting the DSLR or just staying with the Olympus for now.

Thank you.

Answer
if you are ready to spend time learning more about photography and spend money on lenses and other accessories and you really into photography then yes you should get a better camera ))
wish you luck ))

I am saving up for a DSLR camera. I really like the Canon rebel T3i, T4i and the Nikon D5100... which do you recomend? I also wanted to know what lens to get with them? When looking and testing out the cameras in best buy with the kit lense, it was a little fuzzy and buggy in the backround and not as precise as i wanted it. I am thinking about getting the Tamron 17-55mm 2.8 I believe it was.

Answer
Canon is best for beginners, and the eos 600d would be my pick at the moment. With this, the best deals would be with the 18-55mm stock lens that's on most websites deals. This lens basically gives you a wide angle view for wide shots, and a bit of zoom (but not much). For a small bit extra, you can replace this lens with a 55-250mm lens, which is the equivalent of 7x zoom on a point and shoot. Basically, the cheaper lens does the wide angle bit, and the more expensive one does the zoom. You can get one which does both, but its more expensive, heavier (a big factor if you carry it around with you) and bulkier

What is the BEST Nikon DSLR camera and lens currently available?

Mark

I want to buy my boyfriend, for his birthday, the most top of the line DSLR camera, from Nikon (they are his favorite). He is an extremely experienced and amazing photographer. I, however, know nothing of the subject. I do not know about the shutter speed, aperture, pixels, etc... Can you please help me? Price is not an issue, I just want to know the best camera Nikon offers (D7000? D5100?), and the best lens as well (I know even less about lenses...).

Thanks much!!!

Answer
Since money is no object...A Nikon D3x at $7,999.95. The lens would depend on what he is shooting.

For example, there is a:

600mm lens, great for nature for $10,300 or a
70-200 f/2.8 lens great for a lot of things for $2,199 ( I use the Canon equivalent for everything from portraits to wildlife to sports).

Here are more lenses to look at... http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ns=&ci=274&N=4288584247+4291315846&srtclk=sort

The thing to remember is that photography gear is mostly personal preference. My wife refuses to buy me camera gear because of it (she will buy anything else for me including a gun, but not photography stuff).

I would suggest that instead of buying him a camera and lenses, that you take him to lunch and then stop by the local camera shop (maybe blindfold him on the way there). Then say "Happy B-day...you can spend up to $xxxx". He will be delighted and like a kid in a candy store.
