18 megapixel camera nikon image

ive been looking at the best nikon cameras and they reach up to 12.3 or more pixels (nikon d700), but the canon ones reach 18 megapixels with not a very professional camera (EOS 50D)
is canon better than nikon in this way?

Since you've been looking at such models, I thought you know about megapixels so far.
More megapixels on a camera is what makes beginners think that images are sharper, clearer, better looking. No, see, 50D has an APS-C sensor, that's smaller than Full Frame. And these sensors are just not good with so many megapixels, like 15. At least not today, because if you'd compare noise from D700 and 50D, you'd see that D700 wins. The difference will be huge.
And that's because Canon is in somekind of pixel war with themselves lately. If you take a look at G11, you'll see that it has less megapixels than G10. Maybe they finally got it.
The camer with 18 megapixels is 7D. I hope you understand that megapixels are not everything..

Looking to buy another Pro camera and I'd like to know what other wedding photographers are using.

I got the Nikon D60 camera for Christmas, and it beat my old camera by a long shot. I love this thing!

I have found these VR lens do indeed add an extra level of forgiveness in your shooting.
In last 30 days, we have taken shots of Vegas sites, the Grand Canyon and of many sites along the Nile in Egypt, daylight and night, and the results are very good even for an amateur such as myself.
Believe me it's the best choice for the money you got. BTW I used it on some weddings too because I'm a photographer
