Built-in microphones are a convenience only and are prone to recording the zooming, auto-focus and movement of your hands on the camera while using it.
External microphones are usually a much better mic and can record a wider range of sound frequencies, stereo if the external jack and microphone are both stereo.

Where can I buy an external microphone for a DSLR camera?

What is a good website for shopping for external microphones for DSLR cameras? Preferably microphones compatible with the Canon Rebel T3i. Thanks!
Answer
well you can use ANY microphone with your camera. You can even connect the microphone that is connected to your PC (if it is).
