If a camera has a 12 megapixel resolution- is that good?
And is there an image for an example as to how clear the picture is?
Answer
A 12mp camera is good.
How clear the picture is depends on more than just the mp of a camera...the lens, camera settings, autofocus, subject - and photographer - all play a part.
BTW, If it costs less than $100, double check the specs.
There are some cheap "no-name" cameras that have a 5mp sensor and use interpolation to give 12mp. The true sensor size will be in the specifications.
Interpolation is where the firmware in the camera looks at two pixels and "guesses" what colour the pixel between would be. It loses detail, softening and blurring the picture. You get a better picture at 5mp (which will be one of the settings on it).
If you're not sure, add a link to the camera in your question.
The system doesn't work at all well - if it did, camera makers who produce (genuine) 10mp camers would be pushing them as 24mp cameras.

10 Megapixel Dslr or 12 Megapixel Digital camera?
Sparrow
Was Just checking out some cameras, and was wondering. Whats better? a 10 Megapixel DSLR, or a 12 Megapixel Digital Camera?
Seems like a simple enough question, and im pretty sure i know the answer considering the price difference, But Could somebody please explain why for me please?
Answer
First ... pixels are not the big deal that marketing people tend to make them seem

Second, DSLR sensors are over 15 times larger than P&S cameras.
This means that intrinsically, DSLR cameras have higher resolution and can provide far better images just based upon the size of the sensor, however there are many other features DSLR's have that make them superior.
* Interchangeable lenses from fisheye to extreme telephoto
* Fully adjustable by the photographer
* Part of a system of cameras and lenses.
