70mm Imax vs 1080p blu ray?

Hi I was wondering which has the best video quality a movie shot using a Imax camera and played in a 70mm Imax theater or a good quality blu ray disk played on a home HDtv or projector. Also are 70mm Imax projectors always professionaly calibrated because I know that is a problem with some theaters.

70mm IMAX is shot on 50mm analog film, and played back in analog format. It is hard to directly compare it to digital, but it is equivalent to roughly 27 megapixels. Blu Ray is a little over 2 megapixels. IMAX is designed to look great on a humongous screen. If you showed Blu Ray on the same humongous screen, you'd probably notice the pixelization, but will look great on a smaller, home screen.

3DS because...

"The Nintendo 3DS is based on a custom Pica200 graphics processor. It has two screens; the top screen is a 3.53-inch 5:3 3D screen with a resolution of 800Ã240 pixels (400Ã240 pixels per eye, WQVGA) that is able to produce a stereoscopic three-dimensional effect without 3D glasses, while the bottom screen is a 3.02-inch 4:3 non-3D touch panel with a resolution of 320Ã240 pixels (QVGA). Imagine a 360/PS3, but portable.

The 3DS weighs approximately 8 oz. and, when closed, is 5.3 inches wide, 2.9 inches long, and 0.8 inches tall.

The system features several additions to the design of the original DS, including a slider on the side of the device that adjusts the intensity of the 3D effect, a round nub analog input called the "Slide Pad", an accelerometer, and a gyroscope. In addition, there is an infra-red communicator port situated on the top of the unit.

The 3DS has two cameras on the outside of the device, capable of taking 3D photos and capturing 3D video, as well as a camera positioned above the top screen that faces the player, capable of taking 2D photos and capturing 2D video; both cameras have a resolution of 640Ã480 pixels (0.3 Megapixel). The system also has 3D movie playback capability; Nintendo has made deals with Warner Bros, Disney, and DreamWorks to deliver 3D movies. Although no titles have been announced yet, the trailers for Dreamworks' How to Train Your Dragon, Warner Bros' upcoming film Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole and Disneyâs upcoming film Tangled were shown on the 3DS during the Expo. In addition to its own software, the Nintendo 3DS will be backward compatible with Nintendo DS software, including DSi software. Announced titles include Kid Icarus: Uprising and Mario Kart 3DS. Many companies have signed on to develop for the 3DS, and over 75 titles in all have been confirmed. At launch, the Nintendo 3DS cards will hold up to 2GB of game data and look almost exactly the same as those of the current DS. However, there is a small tab jutting out on the one side, most likely to prevent 3DS cards from being inserted in a Nintendo DS.

The system supports multiplayer gameplay via a local wireless connection or over the Internet. Expanding upon the connectivity of the Nintendo DS, the Nintendo 3DS features an "always on" background connectivity system that rumors suggest as "Crosspass", which can automatically seek and connect to wireless network nodes such as Wi-Fi hotspots, sending and downloading information in the background while in sleep mode or while playing a game. One application being considered for Crosspass is functionality to "automatically acquire magazine and newspaper articles", similar to networked e-book reader applications. The background connectivity will be utilized in Crosspass, which allows users to exchange software content regardless of what software is currently in the console. For Crosspass, sharing content is stored in a "data slot" in the console. Using this data slot, Nintendo 3DS users can readily share and exchange content for multiple games at the same time, whenever they are connected, even when playing unrelated games. Using the console's background connectivity, a Nintendo 3DS in Tag Mode can automatically discover other 3DS units within range, establish a connection, and exchange content for mutually-played games, all transparently and without requiring any user input, even when the console is dormant. Tag Mode can be customized to fit the user's preferences, including opting out of Tag Mode for selected software.

According to game developer THQ, the Nintendo 3DS features sophisticated anti-piracy technology which Nintendo believes is able to significantly curb video game piracy, which had increasingly depressed the handheld market with the proliferation of cheap flash memory and the rise in illegal file sharing.

The system has been shown in three color schemes: blue, red, and black. Purple and bronze/orange versions were also seen at E3 2010."

Games that will be coming out for the system includes: Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D - "The Naked Sample", Resident Evil: Revelation, Dead Or Alive, Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition, Kid Icarus, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Kingdom Hearts, Assassin's Creed: Lost Legacy, Ninja Gaiden, Star Fox 64 3D, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Lead the Ghosts, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, and many more.

Digital SLR pixels vs. regular digital pixels?

Ok, so I'm thinking about upgrading to a digital SLR camera from my 10megapixel bridge camera, and I was looking at getting the Nikon D40, but it's only 6.1 megapixel. Will this make a big difference in terms of image quality, or will the larger CCD make up for it somehow? Please explain how it works.

Mega pixels is basically a myth. More is not necessarily better. What matters far more is the size of the pixels. The sensors on most DSLR's are nearly 15 times larger than the sensors on point and shoot cameras. Therefore the pixels are 15 times larger. Larger pixels deliver better detail and less noise than smaller ones. Point and shoot camera with tiny sensors packed with lots of pixels actually generate more heat and noise than they would if they had fewer pixels.

Enough about pixels and sensors. The image quality of even the cheapest DSLR will be far greater than even the best point and shoot. The reasons are that DSLR's have much better optics, much larger sensors, better faster processors and much better analog to digital converters.

Does digital cable produce a better picture on an HDTV vs. a standard television? (no HD package)?

With digital cable service, would the connection to an HDTV provide a better picture than if it was hooked up to a standard def tv? I am referring to just regular digital cable, not the HD package.

It depends.

Case 1, Widescreen Movie; An HDTV is better suited for widescreen because of the aspect ratio - the black bars at the top and bottom (for 1.85:1 and 2.35:1) will be much less apparent on an HDTV set.
Case 2, Screen Size; An HDTV set usually is larger than a standard def set so without a higher resolution image (from HD) the picture will appear worse. This is similar to megapixels on a camera; you can get by with a 4x6 print with a few megapixels, but when you blow up the image you see all the block detail from the pixels.

Anyway, I know of no regulations on the cable or satellite industries to control quality of digital broadcast. There are standards for signal level and quality for analog broadcasts. The industries compress the video content using digital compression techniques and fit more content on for you to enjoy.

Analog is probably a better quality, but an HD set is good to have for several reasons especially if you feed it HD content.

The sensors on most DSLR's are nearly 15 times larger than the sensors on point and shoot cameras. Therefore the pixels are 15 times larger. Larger pixels deliver better detail and less noise than smaller ones. Point and shoot camera with tiny sensors packed with lots of pixels actually generate more heat and noise than they would if they had fewer pixels.
