Buying secondary dslr cameras, is it worth it in Tokyo? If so, where and which camera?

John L

I am currently looking for a entry-level dslr camera for a cheap price at a second hand store. Does anyone know what camera and lens would be great for beginners and outdoor photography?

Answer
When it comes to used cameras, condition can be as important as the original quality of the camera.

So use the same conditions you would use to buy a new camera (brand and model) but then add condition to the mix.

If you have no ability to discern condition, you might end up making a very expensive mistake. DSLRs especially - with a lens can be a very complex instrument - and if you are not an experienced user, you won't likely know what works and what doesn't. If you spend $300 and get a camera that is broken - you wasted $300 to save $300.

I would never recommend buying used for your first DSLR, unless someone goes with you that knows DSLRs and can check it out for you.

At least make sure the store has a return policy (in writing) so you can return the camera if you find out it is a dud.

I don't know what difference Tokyo makes - my advice applies world-wide; especially if you are in a land-of-crooks (some camera stores in Brooklyn, USA for instance).

What is the best dslr camera you can get that isn't very expensive?

I want a dslr camera that is under about 300 dollars that can take very good quality pictures. I know most dslr cameras are very expensive, but I am looking for the best camera that isn't as expensive. And also, is it a good idea to look for a used dslr camera so it can be cheaper than the original price?

Answer
Make sure you get a canon. if you get nikon you will probably end up shedding out for more lenses. the D300 is NOT the best digital slr so don't listen. It is far from the best. If you are looking for a good price and fairly cheap lenses always go for a used Canon. If you get a model such as 400d or 350d which has been out for time you will get one for very cheap. Check ebay or amazon for used 400d body's.

I used the 400d before my 7d and it served me VERY well. :)

I want to know which DSLR camera is cheap and takes pictures of fine details that can look like modeling pictures.

I want fine image quality Do all DSLR cameras have the same image quality ?

Answer
You question alludes to one camera brand or model being better at shooting models, sports, editorial or other subjects than others.

If that were true, professional photographers would have to own many different cameras just to do their job. Lucky for us, this is NOT true.

Any dSLR can be used to shoot models, fashion or glamour. How the images turn out has all to do with their skills as a photographer, NOT the camera they happen to have in their hands at the time

About 2/3rds of my colleagues who shoot fashion use Nikon's and most of the rest use Canon's with one or two Sony or Pentax dSLR's in the mix

Where is a good place to buy a DSLR Nikon Camera?

Nathan

I need a Nikon DSLR Camera, and it needs to be cheap. (No more than 300$). I dont want to hear a place like Target or Fred Meyers, I want something like Ritz Cameras (It can't be Ritz). Also, if you know a good Nikon DSLR Camera (cheap) with a manual focus or a cheap lens with a manual focus, that would be great.

Answer
I have seen some good prices at Sam's Club.

But NO dSLR will cost you $300. Where did you get that price point for your budget?

$700 is closer the what you will need to spend.

The cost for a Nikon D5100 kit is about $650. The Nikon D3200, $700. The D3100 is $600.
