What camera should I buy my brother for making movies?

My budget at the moment is about 2-3k, and I have NO idea about any cameras. I've been hearing a lot about dSLR cameras, but I have no idea how long they can film for. I also have no idea about HD cams or anything either.

My brother is crazy about picture quality. I would like to get him something he can continue to use and not have to replace. Again, my budget is about $2000-3000. Are there any possible cams I should look into? Thanks everyone.

Within your budget the maximum clip length is 12mins, which is 4GB, so for 8GB cards 16Gb cards you can double, quadruple etc.

Canon DSLRs are the best for video. The 600D, 60D are probably the best of the current bunch, articulating screens, mic level control. Should leave some budget for a couple of nice lenses, say a 50mm prime f1.4 and a Sigma 17-50 f2.8 zoom?

If your brother is serious then have a chat with him, it's a lot of money to spend if he has his dream camera in mind and you buy the wrong thing.

A lot of folk will tell you the 5Dmk2 is the one to go for, I refute this, the shutter rolls and it ties you to very expensive full frame lenses. It's good, but it leaves you no budget for lenses, and things have moved on.

I have a 550D and a 7D. If I was buying for video today I'd buy either a 600D or a 60D.

I want to buy a DSLR camera. It would be my first ever DSLR camera. But I'm not sure what model should I buy. My budget is around Rm1800 to Rm2100. I'm going to use this camera on street photography and might take landscapes pictures. Please help me!!

For a budget like that I'd recommend a Canon EOS 550D/600D (but not the much more expensive 650D) or a Nikon D5100 or D3200 (Canon or Nikon are the best at these prices).
If you want to remain at this price, you may buy the camera with the kit lens (18-55mm) which enables you to take landscapes and if you have some money left or to spend more (not too much, about a hundred dollars) you may buy a 50mm f/1.8 lens (can be found at both manufacturers), a cheap lens with large aperture so that you can achieve great bokeh in street photography.
However, even when you don't have much budget (as I was when I bought mine) I would NOT choose the cheapest DSLR, i.e. Canon EOS 1100D or Nikon D3100...

Hello there :) i have a canon 550d and use a 59mm 1.8 with it. I usually take pictures of my family,friends,outing portraits. The thing is i just upload them on facebook,but one thingni noticed is the picture quality degrades alot when i upload it on fb. What mega pixel should i use? L ,m , s? Or is there any other. Way to get almost the same quality as the original pic ? And is there any software to make the pictures more sharper? Thanks

Facebook, along with all other social sharing sites degrade all uploaded pictures and videos for faster transmission through the internet. The earlier you accept that, the simpler life will be.

All you have to do is make sure you resize pictures to about 1024px or less at the long end before uploading and make sure exposure quality is at its highest so that even if quality is lowered as you upload, the final quality will at least still remain acceptable.

Where can I find quality used Canon DSLR cameras and lenses?

I plan on buying a Canon 7D. I would like to know where I can find quality used cameras either on the internet or a store. I would rather save a penny on a used body so I can splurge on a lens. And while on the subject, any advice about lenses would be appreciated. I usually shoot people, between maybe 20 mm and 75 mm.

I would look on craigslist in a city near you.

The problem is that the 7D is not that old a camera, so finding used one will be iffy

Try a 50D or even a T2i/550D

As you can see, the T2i sensor is very close to the performance of the 7D. As you can see that the 550D is less than half the cost of the 7D. With the money saved buying the T2i/550D can give you a lot of money to splurge on maybe two lenses
